Grace Meredith is the CIA’s most deadly assassin. Too bad she’s gone off the grid and become a mercenary for hire. After the death of her daughter by a sniper’s bullet, Grace can no longer stomach the demands of agency life or keep herself from blaming the only man she’s ever loved. Her mind and body are fragile, and she knows she’s just a step away from breaking down completely.

Gabe Brennan holds the weight of the world on his shoulders. As one of the most brilliant black ops agents the CIA has ever employed, he knows it’s no one’s fault but his own that his child was gunned down in cold blood. He might not have been able to save his daughter, but he’s determined to save his wife. He only has to find her first.

Sexual tension crackles between Gabe and Grace from the moment they’re reunited, but between the man who is hunting them, a secret that’s been buried for eighty years, and a turbulent past—the odds are stacked against them.

Liliana Hart

Liliana Hart spent five years teaching music in the public education system. She molded America’s youth, busted kids for smoking pot in the restrooms, and broke up illicit affairs behind the stage on a regular basis. (Liliana’s Addison Holmes Mystery Series, about a small town teacher who gets into a whole lot of trouble, is somewhat autobiographical, but she won’t confess to which parts).

Liliana began reading romance novels with all her new found free time, and when she ran out of things to read, she decided to write her own novels. The result was a 150,000 word thriller—a dazzling adventure—where the heroine was a thirty-year-old virgin assassin (Yes, you read that right). She couldn’t imagine why people weren’t knocking down her door to read it, but she persevered and began writing a second book. She finally got the hang of things, and eventually learned that losing one’s virginity wasn’t all that romantic after all. All of her books involve some kind of suspense (she just can't help herself), laughter, and a lot of steamy sex.

Since the failure of her first attempt, Liliana’s books have won awards such as: The Daphne Du Maurier, The Suzannah, The Linda Howard Award of Excellence, The Maggie, and many others. Her affiliations include Romance Writers of America and Mystery Writers of America.

Liliana loves to cook, and is addicted to reading, Internet Boggle, kickboxing, and Bones. She lives in a big, rambling house in Texas with a couple of cats to keep her company. She loves to get emails from readers.

Enjoy the Adventures!

Kill Shot is book one in the Collective series by Liliana Hart. After the murder of her daughter, Grace Meredith went off the grid and became a mercenary for hire. However, her ex-husband Gabe Brennan has not given up on her and asked her to help him bring down a man that killed their friend. The readers of Kill Shot will follow Gabe Brennan to find out if he talks Grace into helping him.

I enjoyed reading Kill Shot. The way the characters and the description of the settings throughout Kill Shot, portrayed by Liliana Hart, did encourage me to engage with the book. Kill Shot is well written and researched by Liliana Hart. Liliana Hart did an excellent job of incorporating her twists and turns into the plot of this book. I like that Liliana Hart includes at the end of the book a small peak on the plot of the next book in this series.

The readers of Kill Shot will learn the problems people have when they lose a child. Also, the readers of Kill Shot will learn about the devastation that greed and power do to a person and everyone around them.

I recommend this book.

This just wasn’t working for me. I wanted it to be over. I skimmed parts.

It was like a shoot em up action movie – lots of fighting, shooting, explosions. It was mostly external conflict, not much internal or character development. There was nothing special about the action scenes. And the plot was generic. Some of the scenes were not well thought out which I describe below.

PROBLEM SCENES:
Good guys realize they have been set up. They are alone for the moment. Gabe says “we probably only have a few minutes to get a head start.” Instead of driving away fast. They go to their jeep, get extra guns, go into a house, and lock the door. A minute later bad guys arrive, shoot with machine guns, and set the house on fire to get them out. They escape through a window, get in the jeep and drive away. Bad guys chase them. Why didn’t they drive away before the bad guys came? They knew it was a set up.

Bad guy plants a bomb at Gabe’s headquarters. Bad guy then calls Gabe and says there is a bomb which will go off in “a few minutes.” Gabe calls his employee and says “Evacuate now...Start running.” Employee runs and survives. Why did bad guy tell Gabe there was a bomb – and in time to save the employee?

A sniper is aiming at a group of bad guys. One bad guy falls over with blood in his mouth. The author doesn’t tell me if it was due to poison or the snipers bullet. A minute later the sniper’s finger “squeezed the trigger.” The reader assumes a particular bad guy got killed, but the author doesn’t say who got hit, where they were hit, and if they were dead. Authors need to be clear.

SEX:
There were several sex scenes, but they didn’t do anything for me. I skimmed part of those as well.

SENSITIVE READERS:
There is one violent rape murder.

DATA:
Narrative mode: 3rd person. Story length: 303 pages. Swearing language: strong including religious swear words. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 9. Setting: current day various locations in U.S., Europe, and Mid-East. Copyright: 2013. Genre: romantic suspense.

Solid spy/secret agency erotic romance!

What I appreciated is that the author managed to convey the James Bond feel! And that the heroine, Grace, was as good as the male members of the team!

Some scorching hot action between the hero, Gabe, and Grace is also very well sone and doesn't overshadow the spy part of story!

The idea of a dedicated weapon that kills only the person whose DNA was provided is brilliant!

Now I'm curious to read Jack's book, but I see here that this is the only book in the Collective series and it was written almost 3 years ago... so, I suppose, Ms. Hart will not write ony other books... It's a pity because in the epilogue we were give a sneak-peak into Jack's story and it was so intriguing!

I really enjoyed all the action this book had in it. This author gave a lot of attention to not just the males, but the Grace being the only female within the group. She gave the heroine as much attention which was really good. Although I've read this author books before I am looking forward to reading Jack's story.

This is my first read by Liliana Hart and certainly will not be my last. Kill Shot is filled with the perfect amount of drama, angst, action, romance and suspense. Beneath all of the action and suspense there was a love story about love and forgiveness.

Grace is a CIA assassin who has been missing for the past two years. After the death of her daughter, Grace closed herself off. She disappeared and left no trace of where she was heading. Grace is definitely one tough woman on the outside and has the attitude to prove it. But on the inside she is broken and still grieving from her loss. She has been carrying around the guilt, pain and anger over what happened. She has a plan and that plan is to take out the man who is responsible for her daughters death. The one thing her plans did not include was Gabe Brennan, her ex-husband and the man she blamed for her daughter's death.

Gabe Brennan was devestated when he lost his daughter and still blames himself for her death. But not only did he lose his daughter he lost is wife when she went of the grid two years ago. Gabe is about to embark on a dangerous mission and he needs one of the best assassins he knows to help him, which is Grace. When he finds her he makes a deal, she helps him on this mission and he helps her find the man who took their daughter. Gabe needs Grace for this mission but it goes deeper than that. Gabe still loves Grace, she is the only woman for him and they are meant to be together. He couldn't save his daughter but he knows that he needs to save his wife and their marriage. Grace is not the same woman that he once knew, which is understandable given what she went through. But Gabe knows that deep down the woman that he fell in love with is still in there. He knows that she loves him just as much as he loves her. But is love always enough and in this case is love enough to erase the pain? Can Gabe and Grace get past the anger, guilt, and pain of losing their daughter and find their way back to each other?

"But just because two people loved each other didn't mean they needed to be together. Sometimes the pain outweighed the love." Was this true for Grace and Gabe?

From the moment Gabe and Grace meet each other again you feel the sexual chemistry and attraction between the two of them and not to mention the tension as well. There is not denying the physical attraction between the two of them, Grace always knew that and her body will always be his. But after everything she has been through she has closed herself off and isn't sure that she is willing to give her heart back to the man she once loved, and the man she blames for causing her heart to be broken in a million pieces. There is no doubt that Grace still loves Gabe, she just doesn't want to admit it. I loved the connection between Gabe and Grace. The sexual moments between them were hot and sexy, there were moments of tenderness moments where your heart will break for them. As the reader you want nothing more than for Grace to realize how much she still loves Gabe and needs him. They were made for each other and are so good together.

The other characters were all so amazing in their own way. I loved each one for them for different reasons. Grace was a strong woman and your heart broke for her, but I loved her for her sass and her attitude. She took no crap from anyone. I love seeing a man like Gabe who is sexy and in control and and so tough have a soft spot for the woman he loves. There was just something about that man that oozed sexiness. Jack was another favorite of mine, he was Gabe's best friend and I loved the interactions between them on a personal level. Jack was the womanizer in the group and oh so sexy! I cannot wait to learn more about him. Logan was more reserved and quiet and a little bit of a mystery, you sense that there is so much more to Logan that what we see. I hope he gets his own story because I would love to see what is behind that And then there is Ethan, the 18 year old who is a genius on the computer, and doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut, which actually made for some comical moments. The five of them together had amazing chemistry and just worked well together.

Liliana Hart did a wonderful job with Kill Shot. It had just the right amount of everything, the romance part didn't overtake the action and suspense of the story. Everything flowed nicely and I found myself not wanting to put down my IPad. Needing to know if they would all make it out safe and if Grace and Gabe would find their happiness together after everything they have been through. Kill Shot has 4 sexy swoon worthy men and one kick ass heroine, and is a must read!. A job well done by Ms. Hart, I cannot wait for Jack's story!

Second chance intrigue romance

Gabe and Grace, former CIA sanctioned operatives share a tragic past. Their little girl got caught in the crosshairs and was murdered in front of her by a sniper of well-known terrorist, Kamir Tussad. The action was a message meant for him.

Gabe and Grace were the CIA’s best, him for his black ops, and Grace as a sniper. She is now notably a mercenary for hire trying to escape the horrors of her past, in an effort to gain a foothold to Tussad. Gabe knows his wife holds him responsible, but he’s finished watching from the sidelines as she self-destructs.

Gabe’s life was no longer bound to the CIA, he left and formed his own agency. He might be free from them, but had his cover not been compromised, he’d still be accepting missions and admittedly, he’d be dead. A man could only live that way, until he lost his soul or his life and he’d come close to losing both.

‘Gabe covered her with a blanket and touched the curve of her cheek with his fingers. She curled into his hand, nuzzling against him. He couldn’t stop the pain that clutched his heart as he remembered how their daughter had always done the same thing’.

He recruits her to join his newly formed team, a five-man hand selected unit. It took some time to track her down to get her acquiescence on a mission, preventing a madman intent on unleashing a biological weapon. Gabe has not given up on her and enlists her help to defeat the man that killed their friend, she agrees on the condition of gaining his resources to eradicate Tussad.

Gabe is heightened with self-loathing. The time is dispersing for Gabe to reach his target and he can’t afford any missteps. The intensity of emotions, the danger elements and the painful emotional relationship.

Really did not work for me, while the storyline is right up my alley : terrorists, revenge, some biosomething-weapon, second chance romance, stong badass characters... but I skipped whole chapters,, and nothing could save me from boredom here.
Let’s chalk it up to a classic « it’s not you it’s me » situation and love on to the next one

If you love Romantic Suspense, with a tough chick heroine and a formidable agent Hero, you will love Kill Shot by accomplished author, Liliana Hart.

Grace Meredith had created an extremely tough wall of indifference mixed with cold-hearted killer, a wall that wrapped around her heart. For two lonely, grief-filled years, she'd built this impenetrable façade, crippled by the venomous hate that had filled her. She knew, deep down, that she still loved her ex-husband, the man to whom she'd once shared joy, completion; but her tattered heart felt beyond redemption, beyond deserving joy ever again. She lived only to avenge her daughter's ruthless slaying.

Gabe Brennan, who lived with the unmitigated blanket of grief and remorse, had his own vendetta: to restore his wife's heart, even if it meant he'd remain forever alone, and destroy the man who crushed her. He used his tenacity and acumen, his CIA trained, powerful body, to defeat evil, as he sought her out of seclusion. He used his staunch devotion and firm loving to penetrate her defenses. His preferred aim: to bring them home from this mission alive. Together.

Kill Shot, alongside its fast paced, tension-filled hunt for a malevolent terrorist, was a journey towards reconciliation. It was primarily Grace's story; but each supporting character's interaction was balanced well, lending credibility and depth to the journey, as well as justifying their vital role in her recovery. At times, the needed humor too.

The sexual chemistry was scintillating but was also deeply moving. The sex scenes varied; from fast and furious, to passionate and sensual; always hot, and described with just the right amount of explicit detail.

Like all good spy books, there were gorgeous, über-talented agents, stacked with muscles, brains and the latest savvy technology of course. There was impressive attention to detail particularly concerning the specific complexities of each operation. It felt like you were watching a Die Hard movie, so, I loved it!

Overall, the mixture of, and movement between suspense, tension and romance was flawlessly achieved. Written in third person, Kill Shot kept me engrossed and riveted. The Epilogue will make you groan in frustration, only because you won’t be able to turn the page for me. Sigh. Can the next book please come out tomorrow?

Thank you Liliana Hart for a copy of Kill Shot in exchange for an honest review. No compensation was received for this review.

This was an exceptionally written book. From the plot to every character the story played out like an awesome spy based action movie.

Gabe and Grace were two of the CIA’s best operatives. Gabe, for his black ops work, and Grace for her skills as a sniper. They not only got married, which is frowned upon in there line of work, but they also had a child which is not a smart thing to do with the amount of enemies that they both get in their line of work. Then two years ago the worst thing imaginable happened. Their daughter was killed as payback for one of Gabe’s ops.

Grace leaves both CIA and Gabe and goes mercenary. All she wants is her revenge and doesn’t care if she is alive at the end of it. Gabe also left the CIA but started his own group of black ops agents called The Collective. When The Collective gets a mission stop a chemical weapon that can cause genocide Gabe decides it time to bring Grace in to help them with their mission and for them to finally come to terms with what happened 2 years ago.

Even though Grace was a deadly assassin and tough as nails on the inside she was a mess. Your heart broke for her for what she was going through emotionally but yet you were also rooting for Gabe who loved her heart and soul and refused to give up on her. Their healing journey throughout the book all while doing missions and having some very hot make up sex was powerful.

The rest of the members that make up The Collective were as badass as Gabe. Well except for the 18 year old computer genius he was more like comic relief. The story from beginning to end just flowed. There were no lull moments. The worst part about the book was it had to end. Looking forward to the next book in this amazing series.

A tragic past. A need for revenge. Will their future be together? Will they survive their mission? Will they survive each other?
Grace and Gabe, former CIA operatives, lost their daughter to a sniper’s bullet, tearing them apart. Years later they are brought back together for a common purpose. Their mission must be successful to save the world from deadly terrorists.

I truly adore Gabe and Grace. Both are broken with grief and guilt. Together, they help make each other whole again. Their life is not an easy one. However, they accept it because they are the good guys protecting the rest of us.

At times I felt the story was a little too long. I was in the mood for action and didn’t want to read more about the description of the hotel lobby. (Smiles) By the end, I had received my action and a great ending.

I love pieces of history being brought into a story, making you think of the possibilities. Miss Hart did a wonderful job. I loved how she tied everything together. There was a moment while I was reading, I thought, “this story is so complex, how can we resolve everything by the end in the few chapters left?” I should not have worried. No stone was left unturned; no shot missed its mark.

Secondary characters Jack, Logan, and Ethan are fantastic. I am looking forward to all of their stories. I am excited that there is more to come.

If you like romantic suspense in a world of espionage, you’ll like Kill Shot by Liliana Hart.

This book was awesome. I loved everything about it. The story was sooooooo good, it was well thought out, flowed perfectly, and the execution was on point. Descriptions and explanations of everything was done incredibly well and easy enough for me to understand and picture in my head as I have very meager knowledge of the places and actions taken in this story. I think the action and romance was completely balanced and complemented each other very nicely.

Grace and Gabe were very different characters from what I'm used to, but I loved them. They were both relatable in a sense and I didn't have a problem with their flaws. They showed what it was to be human and still grieving over past hurts. I loved that they admitted they had problems and that they weren't cured overnight. They were two people who lost a big part of themselves and just didn't know how to deal with what happened and recover from their loss. I especially appreciated that Gabe never gave up on her or held anger or resentment against her because he understood her pain and fury. While I wish he hadn't waited so long to go after her, I can understand his logic behind it, in giving her time and space to grieve in her own way, keeping track of what she was doing, he was able to get himself in a better place so he could focus on helping her when the time was right.

This was one of the best second chance reunited couple stories I've ever read. It wasn't angsty, no jealous outsiders interfering in their relationship, no back and forth nonsense, it was just about the two of them coming back together, better, and stronger. Even though Gabe was hard on his team, his soft spot and weakness for Grace was my undoing, he wasn't afraid to show how far his feelings for her went in front of others even though he tried to keep up his hardened front. Grace was understandably harder to open up but once she did and let go of the past, she was very forthcoming in her affection for Gabe and wanting to get help for herself. They were characters that were easy to like, understand, and root for to get their happy ending. It's rare when I like both main characters but these two were perfect for each other and exactly to my liking.

One thing to note is how one of the main conflicts was dealt with in the end was a little underwhelming after all buildup and pain it caused for our main characters. I wish there was a little more to it and maybe some adequate closure for that part of their life. I get what the author was going for but I felt like it was a little bit of a letdown and expected more or something else, considering their occupations and the way they are. The one thing I felt that was missing was an epilogue for Grace and Gabe, the epilogue we got was to set up Jack's story and as much as I'd like to read that, I would rather have had the wrap up to their lives instead, another child or just a look at their life when they're in a much better place than they were. This would have merely been a bonus and doesn't take away anything from the book though.

I'm glad I got to experience this world and I hope that the author comes back to this series soon because I'm interested in reading about the others on the team now, especially Logan with what was hinted at about his past. Beautifully done and willing to read more. Many thanks to the author for this amazing story.

Liked the story ok

I liked the story good enough but I thought it was too much graphic detail for the sexual encounters. Not knowing anything about the author or genre this should fall under I may be completely unaware that was the point. It made me feel better to know they were married in some small way but still thought it was too much a part of the story and too much detail. Definitely liked it enough to try a second book in the series but will probably stop reading if that is the M.O. For all the books.

Killer Read

Kill Shot is an exciting sexy and fast paced read. The characters are intriguing and you regret to know them in a short amount of time. The chemistry among the characters was sizzling. You could tell there was a friendship and cohesive team working together to heal their pain and get the job done.

this was an emotional, gripping thriller. Although you can certainly feel their connection and understand their history, I wish I could have met them at the beginning of their journey. they seem so well matched. the ending seemed a bit rushed. no person could have gotten it together so quickly after such a detailed narrative of the heroines despair and grief.

This is my first read by Liliana Hart and certainly will not be my last. Kill Shot is filled with the perfect amount of drama, angst, action, romance and suspense. Beneath all of the action and suspense there was a love story about love and forgiveness.

Intensity is shot through this whole book so that I never had time to draw a deep or relieved breath. Whether it was the physical danger element or the painful and deeply emotional relationship, this one just didn't let up. I have never read this author before and now I want to smack myself with a 'why ever not' because this was an incredible bit of writing that lived up to and then some what is revealed in the blurb. And yes, I used a boat-load of descriptive adjectives already because I just couldn't help myself.

Grace is a trained CIA operative and one of the best snipers in the world, but she is off grid and doing merc work now because she's trying to escape the horror of her past. Her little girl died before her very eyes as a result of a hired gun of a known terrorist and she blames her ex-husband because it was to get to him that the kill was ordered. Now Grace only lives for revenge. She will get the terrorist or die trying.

Gabe Brennan knows his wife hates and blames him for what happened to their daughter. He blames himself, but he's done watching her from afar as she slowly falls apart at the seams. He rounds her up and recruits her for a new job on a new team made up of the best at what they do. The clock is ticking and they have to stop a man mad with power before he unleashes a terrible biological weapon. Grace agrees to come on board if he promises to help her exact her revenge. The stakes are high for Gabe to achieve all the goals he sets out to accomplish and he can't afford to make one misstep whether it is bringing down a would-be dictator or getting his wife back.

I was so into this book that I could barely come up for air. I knew it would be exciting and it was, but I didn't expect to be grabbed up emotionally by the characters in a thriller-style romance. The plot is an abso-fab twisty thing of beauty with enemies just as determined and capable as the good guys. The action and the romance both raised the bar on the usual suspense stuff. I loved that this one was about a husband and wife who needed a second chance. Love is never in question, but yet the gulf separating them was pretty wide and deep when the story started. The action is riddled with backdrop and scenes that felt pretty authentic with the descriptions of equipment, covert activities and even how people in that type of life would have thought and felt. The pacing was good and it had that quality of never knowing what to expect next.

The main characters were so well-written. I loved both Grace and Gabe and I loved them together. Their marriage is full of heat and passion even when they have to deal with some pretty hard issues. The rest of the characters were not chintzed on. Gabe's team are the best. They were all unique men with their own personalities and special abilities. I was thrilled to see that this is a series and I can't wait to read more knowing that the story will shift to one of the others getting their story and its no mystery who once you read the epilogue. I have to say that while the bad guys weren't given as much page time, their perspectives were not neglected either. They were some really evil customers to perform the atrocities they did and all of them needed killing. As you can tell, I was really vested in the characters and the story.

I most certainly recommend this to those who love steamy thriller or action romance and even the romantic suspense lovers out there.

This is my first read by author Lilian Hart and also my first read of undercover work. I have to admit I thoroughly enjoyed it very much and was surprised I really liked it. It was almost like watching it on tv only reading about it.

Grace Meredith is a secret undercover assassin CIA agent who is on a mission to recover a top secret flash drive and take out any terrorist that get in her way. Grace was empty inside, full of darkness, this darkness was taking over everything she was or knew. Once Grace gets inside to the person who was suppose to have the flash drive she finds him already assassinate by another expert. Upon leaving she gets into a brawl with another assassin only to realize it is that of her ex-husband Gabe Brennan.

Tensions flare up, old feelings come to surface as Gabe states he tracked her down to offer her a job on his team. You see Grace just happens to be the best sniper around. Grace considers his offer only if in return he helps her track down the man who shot and killed their daughter Maddie. Grace and Gabe were married for 7 years and on their 4th anniversary they conceived a baby. It worked out that they would take turns raising their daughter while the other one goes on a mission for a week here or there. They promised never to be gone at the same time leaving their daughter in the care of anyone else.

Someone eventually found out that Gabe was a top man in the CIA, he gets put in to protective custody. A short time later a hit was put out on his wife only to hit their daughter Maddie instead. Gabe being in protective custody never showed up at the funereal or in Graces life again until now. Thus why Grace just shuts down all feelings and devotes all her time and energy into her work (hoping to also uncover who killed their daughter).

While training for their new mission, tensions fly high between the two. There is a lot of flirting, make out sessions, hot and heavy at times. Gabe seems to get hard every time he is around Grace and she notices this….ALOT. My favorite quote in the story was Grace was thinking to herself how hot he still is after all these years and thinks I want to “Answer his call like a cat in heat”. How cute, pounce on him then would you, my thoughts out loud, lol.

Once they confront their issues, get the task/job done they are suppose to do, this couple comes out stronger than ever. Kill Shot will take you on a wild ride with turns, twists, and ups and downs. This story line has a lot of murder, greed, revenge, whores, slashing, guns, government corrupted people, love and an OMG ending.

I would recommend this story line to anyone 18+ due to everything I just stated in my previous paragraph.

This isn’t the first book I have read by Liliana Hart – but it is the 1st book that I am reviewing. This book was AWESOME. Literally. It had just about every aspect that I look for in a book – especially since we ALL know I love my Romantic Suspense! & this book delivered just that; and I loved every second of reading it. The characters were hilarious; the chemistry between each and every one of them literally jumped off the page at you & it made for such an interesting read!

Grace is your “Alpha Female,” if you will. She is rock solid (in her own way), knows what she wants, isn’t afraid to use what she has to get it && is a take no nonsense or I will shoot you with my sniper rifle, kind of girl. Talk about epic. & her attitude. Oh how I love her attitude. All sass, mixed with some brass && add brains on top of that. If I was a guy; I’d be all over that. Grace was one very well written character. She has her set backs – I believe everyone would after going through what she did. Her struggles were very real and watching her as she learned to cope, heal and move on was amazing.

Gabe – he’s your average Alpha Male – complete with his own company ran by AMAZING men just like him. OH! & did I mention he and Grace were MARRIED?! Yea – you guessed it — insert firework scenes here! It really was a joy to read. Gabe has a mission he needs completed & he needs none other than his ex-wife’s special qualifications. OH YEA, things just got real. Imagine the reading that went on once these two were back in the same place, facing the very same past they have been avoiding for the past couple of years. The dialogue between the two of them ranged from hilarious, serious, steamy and right back to hilarious all over again.

Liliana Hart wrote such amazing secondary characters that I could not get enough of them! Seriously, I need me a Logan & a Jack! Let’s not forget about Ethan. That poor, poor little dude. He will learn one day.. ONE DAY! lol – I can’t wait to see what is in store next! If you are a fan of Romantic Suspense, or just Romance in general, then Kill Shot is def a MUST READ for you! :)
