Over twenty years ago, Mother Teresa gave Donna-Marie Cooper O'Boyle a blessed Miraculous Medal, and she has never taken it off. To date, Donna-Marie has given away thousands of Miraculous Medals. But what is the Miraculous Medal--and why is it considered miraculous? Why is it important for us today? You'll learn the answers to these questions, and you'll also The story of St. Catherine Labouré The author has collected many contemporary stories of the Miraculous Medal's attraction and impact. Also provided is a section of prayers and devotions, including the perpetual novena prayer, spiritual benefits, and more. This is an informative, fascinating, and inspiring book, designed to stir the hearts of those who aren't familiar with the Miraculous Medal's miraculous powers through the Blessed Mother's intercession, as well as those who are.
What a disappointment. I usually love books like this and find the miraculous stories shared to be fascinating. But when the author tries to pass of such things as not needing a new fax machine, but only a new phone cord and her non-church going neighbor accepting a Miraculous Medal from as divine miracles I just rolled my eyes.
This book is a nice blend of the story of St. Catherine Labouré, the history of the Miraculous Medal and stories of how the medal has touched the lives of ordinary people through Mother Teresa and author Donna-Marie Cooper O'Boyle. It is a very easy read, yet it transmits both historical information and enthusiasm for the Miraculous Medal. I was inspired by the book to order a Miraculous Medal for myself. That might be the highest praise of all.
Book is a weird blend of history of the saint and then the author's ministry handing out medals. The history is 3.5 stars as it needs more editing and sort of trailed off without finishing St. Catherine Laboure's story. Also, a bit more grounding as to the political environment of France of the 1820s-1830s would have helped me feel her urgency regarding the messages she received. Nonetheless, a nice read. But then we get the author's recounting the difference these medals have made in people's lives today (2 stars). Honestly, reading of her handing them to people on airplanes is weird. She swears that she knows they have made a difference in people's lives, but with zero follow up, I'm left with an unpleasant vibe of the only difference made is how good the author feels distributing the medals, which I suspect is the opposite of what she was aiming for. I was hoping for more in the way of prayers, but that section just felt tacked onto the end.
I really enjoyed this book. It's one of the better descriptions of the origins of the miraculous medal, I like the stories attached, the prayers included, and the provided references. It has inspired me to wear or carry a miraculous medal as much as I can. Recommend to anyone looking for peace, comfort, hope, or history on one of the more famous and influential encounters with Mary.
Readable and worthy of reflection, this book is helpful when desiring to pray more faithfully for the intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary. The stories of answered prayers and miracles are encouraging. Donna-Marie Cooper O'Boyle's enthusiasm for the Miraculous Medal is inspiring. This book was given to me by Silvia Hanna.
Intriguing, inspiring and informative. Some times I wished for more explanation of some of the events. It was as if I did not get all the information and was left hanging. Writer is skilled and knows how to convey a message. Is very knowledgeable.
This is the fascinating story of the origin of the Miraculous Medal, the life of St. Catherine Laboure in Paris, and the apparitions of our Blessed Virgin Mary in the 1800’s and her intercessions in our modern day.
This is the most readable and enjoyable book I've found in the Miraculous Medal. It's divided into three sections. The first is a warm telling of the history of the Medal. The author's personal experiences are recounted in mini-chapters in the second section. The third section offers prayers to our Blessed Mother as a reference and devotion guide. The book is perfect and a great read to "brush up" on devotion to our Blessed Lady.
I would recommend this book as a must read for Catholics searching for a deeper faith walk!!! Enjoyed and enjoyed it want to share with family and friends.,,
