Taylor is a laid-back, smart-aleck kind of lawman. He’s also a man’s man, as well as every woman’s private fantasy. Hot Pursuit by Jo Davis is the 2nd book in her Sugarland Blue series. This is a wonderful series that is romance suspense at its best. I had enjoyed the first book in this series, and Hot Pursuit continued the trend of a great couple, suspense, romance, and hot steamy sex scenes.

Taylor Kayne is our hero, and another hot hunk on the Sugarland Blue police force. He is partners with our first book hero, Shane. Taylor though is troubled by something that happened in the past that still haunts him; a rescue attempt that backfired resulting in the death of some hostages. Taylor keeps his nightmares to himself, only letting Shane in a little bit. Then one day, a truck comes barreling down the street directly at Taylor. He luckily escaped with minimal injuries, but someone is out to get Taylor.

Cara Evans, a rock band singer, is our heroine. Cara and her band are staying in Sugarland. But Cara has another motive, and Taylor is the one in her sights for revenge. Cara’s sister was killed in that hostage situation, and she has been mislead to think that Taylor was responsible for her sister’s death.

What follows is an exciting story that had non stop action throughout. Taylor meets Cara while watching her band, becomes attracted to her immediately. Cara, though shocked, takes advantage of this break, and plays up to Taylor. But in a short time, their attraction is undeniable, and they both have such hot sexual chemistry together. Cara begins to see a good side to Taylor. He is always helping people, especially Blake, whom he has taken under his wing, and whom Cara has given a job helping with the band.
With threats and accidents from someone who wants both of them dead, they will open up to each other and discover the truth. Then the mystery is on to find out who is behind the attempts on their lives, as well as to why. This is a very exciting action filled story throughout, and poor Taylor gets hurt a few times. But as I said before, the romance which happened fast, was very very hot and steamy. They made a wonderful couple. The last ¼ of the book was an edge of your seat suspense thriller, which it did not look like our couple would survive. But despite those tense scenes, I also knew in romance, normally there is an HEA.

Jo Davis did another wonderful job with this second edition of Sugarland Blue. She has created a wonderful series that has it all…exciting stories, super hot couple, romance, danger, suspense, friendship from a great group of secondary characters, and hot hot hot sex. If you love all of these things, then you must read this series.

I can't tell you how much I've been in enjoying the new features we are doing for Book Club Thursday. I'm really liking how we are getting more of the books that we have sitting on the shelves of our book case off. I don't know about you but I buy way more then I'll ever read. And now that I spend more time blogging and reviewing books, my own personal books (the ones of those shelves) get pushed aside so I can review something new.

Book Club Thursday is helping even if it's only just a little bit.

This month I picked Cop/FBI to read. I had so many to choose from and happened upon Hot Pursuit by Jo Davis. I really loved her Firefighters of Station 5 series and because of that I think I didn't jump right on this new series. I didn't want to let go. I did finally a while back read the novella and the first book in the series and enjoy them but....life!

I'm going try my best to get totally caught up on this series because I really do enjoy them. Hot Pursuit was so good!!! The story is very fact paced and I really like the characters. I love the idea of this story. Set out for revenge and realize you were totally wrong in what you thought happened.

Secrets suck for a relationship but make a fiction story so good!

You'll love how poor Cara struggles with what she thinks happened to her sister with what really did. You'll love Taylor, he's such a nice guy. Both Cara and Taylor are so good together and what they do for Blake is so sweet and heartwarming.

I really can't wait to read Chris's story. He's got something going on with him that I need to know what it is. Fingers crossed I can fit it in soon.

As a young cop, Taylor was sent into a hostage situation that turned out badly. Now he is suffering PTSD from it and is being hunted by more than one related party for revenge.

Cara moved to Sugarland to get revenge for her sister, Jenny, who was killed when the cop sent into the hostage situation egged on the shooter. She wants Taylor to suffer as she has suffered for the past four years. Everyone believes Taylor is a good cop and an upstanding guy, but Cara knows differently.

Or so she thinks. Once she meets Taylor, she finds out he really is a pretty decent guy. As they get closer, it becomes obvious someone doesn't want the two of them comparing notes about Jenny's death.

While I understand the story is supposed to be representative of the adrenaline packed lives cops lead, it seems a bit unrealistic for Cara to hop in the sack with Taylor the first night she meets him. She supposedly hates this guy, but is willing to let go of long enough for a hookup.

Also, Cara and Taylor fall in love mighty quick. They do go through a lot together Ina short time period, but they go from one night stand and I hate you to married in just a couple of weeks.

I do like that both are portrayed as willing to help out a young homeless man, after his parents have thrown him out. While his being gay does give a reason for his parents to be done with him, he still comes off as a token gay character. He could have lost touch with his parents for many reasons and being gay is not essential to his character.

Although I do have some issues with the overall story, Davis does a good job of creating a quick, intense romantic suspense.

Cara Evans has moved to Sugarland in order to find Detective Taylor Kayne and make him pay for the death of her sister when he mishandled a hostage situation in Los Angeles. Taylor has been suffering with delayed PTSD from that very same incident that caused him to relocate to Sugarland. When Cara meets Taylor for the first time, and sees the way that he cares about the people that he serves including a homeless boy named Blake, she starts to question the information she was given about the way her sister died.
The major conflict in this book between the two main characters at the beginning of the story was settled much more quickly than it should have been, and some of the dialogue was over-dramatic, making the suspense that is finally developed near the end of the story, too little too late. The two main characters are likable enough, but overall, this is a fairly average romantic suspense with very little to make it stand out.

Really there is no way these two should work, and yet they do overcoming obstacles and attempted murder. She believed he was the cause of her sister's murder and he harbored guilt in the role he played. Taylor really takes a beating, it's a surprise his brain didn't get permanently scrambled

This one was WAY better than the first installment! I was hooked from the start. I like both MC, they were interesting and I was really curious to how things will play out and all the mysterious details of Cara and Taylor's past. I do wish we got more about Taylor's past, there was a bit mentioned there but not enough to my liking.

Taylor witnessed a horrible scene in which Cara's sister was murdered 4 years ago. But somehow Cara figured it all wrong as though Taylor is the one to blame to what happened that day. Wanting revenge she moves to Sugarland to look for him and make him pay! Yet as she keeps spying on him she is surprised nothing he does fits the profile of the man she thought was responsible for her losing her sister. When he hits on her in the club her band plays at she accepts reluctantly not knowing what to do with him or with the fact she finds him VERY attractive..

I liked getting the story from both their POVs, also the fact that Taylor wasn't oblivious to how she was playing "hot- cold" with him while not knowing how to deal with Taylor being such a great guy who couldn't possibly match the person she thought he'd be. Yet it took about half of the book for the truths to come out and then a little bit more till the non-stop action with the villain stepping up his game.. I like how much action Jo brings into her books, totally keeps you on edge!

There's a sweet side story of Blake, a person both Cara and Taylor care for. He was thrown out of his house when his family discovered he is gay and so both Cara and Taylor try their best to help him sort himself out. I didn't like the fact everyone kept telling him all the men around him were straight when he said he was attracted to them. Can't a person enjoy the view? Also I wish there was someone there for him, even if a start of a relationship though he does have a happy ending of his own.

It's hard for me to say exactly why this one wasn't a solid 5 star rating. There were times I felt the story was dragging a bit and the romance was a bit OTT. They fell for each other too fast somehow.. though I could see that both of them needed each other and came at the right time. I wish there was more to Cara and Taylor's relationship than sex.. I mean, it's great that the physical part works for them, but at times it felt it's all they truly had (which made it hard for me to accept the growing feelings).

I somehow feel as though I liked the previous series better though it's hard for me to truly recall how it was (read it round 5 or 6 months ago..) and I felt different for each of them, so.. I don't know. It was a good read. Both MC were strong and capable which I really liked and the action in the end was GREAT!

A thrilling romantic suspense filled with danger, intrigue and of course romance.

Taylor Kane moved to Sugarland after a devastating event while living and working in Los Angeles. He is now suffering from delayed PTSD as he fights the nightmares that relive a night where several people died and he feels guilty. He is currently working for the Sugarland police department with his best friend Shane, hoping that no one notices the change in him.

One morning while running, someone tries to run him off the road, Taylor is confused, he does not know who would be after him. He talks to Shane about the incident, they start to investigate and in the meantime there is a suspicious death at a motel room, a man from Los Angeles, is the past coming back to haunt Taylor?

Cara Evans moved to Sugarland in pursuit of Taylor, her sister Jennifer was killed while Taylor was trying to negotiate with her murderous husband, he was unsuccessful and Cara blames him. She is the lead singer in a band and bartends on her off hours at a local tavern. One night Taylor, Shane and another co-worker Chris, go to the bar where Cara is singing, there is an immediate connection between Taylor and Cara, they hookup that night as the chemistry is amazing between them. The danger ramps up when the man that was killed is from Cara's past and the group investigates both in Sugarland and when they travel to LA.

What a ride, this book starts off with a bang and does not stop until the end. A thrilling adventure that solves an old mystery and helps Taylor through the guilt and Cara through pain and revenge. I really enjoyed the characters, Taylor and Cara were good together however I did feel that the first hookup was strange, she knew who he was and thought he was to blame for her sister's murder, yet she wants to sleep with him? Their relationship went from distrust to lust and love so fast it was a little hard to believe.

I really like Shane and was glad to see both Shane and Daisy were in many scenes throughout the book, it is great to see their continued story from the first book. I also am interested in seeing more of Chris, Shane's cousin as he seems intriguing and I wonder what his story is. Blake is another featured character, and I think he is an amazing kid, his story is heartbreaking and I love the fact that both Taylor and Cara were trying to help him, even before they knew each other. I truly enjoyed the story and I will continue with the series to see what will happen next.

REVIEW:
I always love Jo Davis's books whether she is writing romantic suspense or writing paranormal romance as J.D. Tyler, she always delivers sizzling romance. Hot Pursuit is the second book in the Sugarland Blue series, which is a spin-off of her Firefighters of Station Five series. I like to read books that are part of a series in the series reading order, but this book can be read as a standalone. I love this new series! Taylor and Cara have a painful past, but there is no denying their instant chemistry when they come face to face. Hot Pursuit took me on an emotional ride that held my interest throughout the book. Taylor and Cara's story has everything I look for in a great romance book. It has an action packed and suspenseful plot with great characters, as well as the smoking hot romance I love. I highly recommend Hot Pursuit and the Sugarland Blue series for romantic suspense lovers. I can't wait for the next book to be released.

While the beginning had its slow spots, the ending had heart stopping scenes. This second installment of Sugarland Blue is about Shane Ford’s partner, Detective Taylor Kayne. If you read the first installment, these two has quite a bit of reputation with crime fighting. Well, it’s come back to bite Taylor in the butt. Someone is after him and is hurting everyone he cares about, including the new gal in his life, Cara.

I like Taylor and Cara’s story. The fact that they were both adults and acted like it was a plus. There was no angst between them, in fact, their feelings were clear. There was a conflict in the past that prevented them from being together but they both knew what they wanted from the start. Of course, Ms. Davis will not forget to put a bit of flare to this couple’s relationship. Just like her other novels, this couple has a couple of steamy scenes. I love that Ms. Davis had brought them together by their mutual concern for Blake, whom I totally adore. I think this teen along with Shane’s godson Drew has a lot of potential of getting their own series or book someday.

Ms. Davis did a great job with an explosive ending. The emotional, suspenseful and action filled ending had me at the edge of my seat. And the scene between Shayne and Taylor as well as Cara and Taylor at the very end were pretty intense.

Overall another great read from Ms. Davis. I can’t wait to read more of Sugarland Blue’s adventure.

Past and present collide in Jo Davis’ sizzling book two of her Sugarland Blue series, Hot Pursuit. Taylor Kayne has been working for the Sugarland police department after his move from California following a botched hostage situation years ago. Cara Evans has come to Sugarland in order to make Taylor pay; having lost someone she loved during the hostage situation that made him a hero. Sparks fly when they meet, and what happens next is a rollercoaster of emotion and action that will keep you gripped until the last page.

At the very beginning of the novel the action grips you, with Taylor being involved in a hit and run. From there, a series of mishaps and accidents that occur to Taylor and Cara keep you waiting to see what’s next, and let them both know someone is out to get them. The only thing they have in common is the hostage situation- but they have no idea who would want to hurt them and why after so long. Add to this their undeniable attraction that they can’t seem to get away from and you have a perfect storm of romance and suspense. There were a couple of issues with the novel- the biggest one being the feelings of the hero and heroine. The story goes from the heroine hating the hero for his perceived involvement in her sister’s death to her undying love within a matter of days, and the speed and level with which her feelings change are a bit alarming. With that aside, this was a page turner with just the right combination of both romance and suspense.

REVIEW:
Book 2 in the Sugarland Blue series takes us back into the world of Sugarland police force. Hot Pursuit we get to learn more about the Taylor and the demons that chase him. As a young cop Taylor was put into an unwinnable situation. But after leaving LA and trying to start over Taylor thought things might be getting better, even if his nights are still plagued with nightmares.
Cara is a woman out for revenge. She wants the man responsible for her sister's murder to pay for his crime. Revenge is all she can think about for the last four year. Cara had made this man a monster in her mind. An unfeeling, uncaring, unthinking monster. When Cara finally finds her mark she realizes that the man she has hated for 4 years is anything but the monster she made it out to be.
Theses two are a great couple. Things move really fast for them. But when it is right it is right. But with a threat from the past stalking them at each moment their time together maybe too short to really explore what they might have.
Another good book for Jo Davis. I am loving the Sugarland series. I can’t wait to see what or who Jo is going to give us next.

My Review:
I'll admit, this is a tough book to review...just because I don't think I was in the best frame of mind when I read it. Nothing was wrong with the book...this one just didn't strike the same emotional chords for me that Jo Davis books normally do. And sitting back and thinking back over the book, I couldn't even tell you why because there's absolutely nothing wrong with the book. Sometimes, as a reader, you just don't connect. I have a feeling if I re-read it again in a few months, I will have a very different feeling about it.

The things I did like about the book:
*it worked for me that Taylor still has nightmares about this event. His PTSD over it made him a character that pulled at my emotions right off the bat.
*I loved Taylor and Shane together. They are great partners and it was nice to see Shane again (he's the hero of book #1.)
*I was REALLY intrigued by Chris in this book and his mystery illness. I'll admit to that being one of my favorite parts of the story and it was so minor, but definitely (at least I hope so) a hint of things to come in the series.
*I enjoyed the music aspect and that Cara is in a band. Jinx was an interesting character and I could deal with learning more about him....hint: maybe an off-shoot series set in the music business would be fab!

While this book wasn't necessarily the book for me, I definitely plan to continue reading the series.

Hot Pursuit is book two of the Sugarland Police Series. Each book can be read as a standalone. This is the only book I have read by this author. I enjoyed the writing. This is a guilty pleasure book. It is short, fast-paced and keeps you enthralled from page one, I read it in one sitting.
The characters of the story were interesting. There was an instant connection for the two. Taylor, unbeknownst, to him has been watched by the heroine as they have an past. When he meets her, he doesn’t realize the connection to his old life in LA. He only feels a strong pull to her and decides to explore where it goes.
There are a lot of roadblocks to the HEA, especially when he finds out their how their pasts connect. They are both strong, independent characters that butt heads. I liked Cara, she’s feisty, charismatic and sweet. She is the lead singer of a rock band that is hiding some crazy family history. Their chemistry is undeniable regardless of their past.
The suspense aspect of this book is what really appealed to me. I hate when things are drawn out. This story got right to the point, delivered the story with no fill in plot points to weigh it down. I was engrossed from start to finish.

This is a good, funny, fast-moving murder mystery story with some scorching scenes.

I liked this one, even liked the couple, but, and it is a big one, BUT, I'm having a hard time buying that after years of blaming Taylor, after moving to where he lives to get revenge on him, that after actually meeting him that she would have sex with him that same night, that after that, for the most part the romance was smooth sailing. If I just ignored that, I really liked Cara and Taylor together and loved how they they were as a couple.

I really liked how family played a big part in this book. But family wasn't just blood, but more those that you came by love. I loved how both Cara and Taylor seemed to take Blake under their wing, to help him out when he was down. Blake was so much fun, I loved how he interacted with everyone and seemed to fold seamlessly into the group of Taylor's friends.

I liked how this one ended, loved that there was a HEA and Blake got back part of his family.

(Feb) I loved Jo Davis's Firemen series. This spin off series, following the police officers of Sugarland, is not at good. Cara has a mysterious past, and hates Taylor. However, when she finally meets him, she falls into insta-lust and into his bed. However, her past catches up with her and causes a rift in this budding relationship. Taylor is carrying guilt from an incident that happened in Los Angeles a few years ago. To no reader's surprise (or at least it should not be a surprise!), their pasts are related and there is finally some honesty as they share their secrets. Cara is not a particularly interesting heroine - she is wishy washy and a bit annoying. There is a bit of action, I like seeing Shane, and Blake, the homeless boy from Shane's book, plays a large role in this story. The mystery that ties Taylor and Cara together comes to a head at the end, and I found it a bit lame and just not that interesting. But - I'm on board for the next one just the same.

Taylor is a detective in this latest in the series about lawmen in Sugarland county, Tennessee. He's almost run over by someone in a big black car. When he gets to work he's sent with his partner Shane to a crime scene - a man was shot dead at a motel. He doesn't expect the two incidents to be connected.
Cara is a star singer attraction at the local bar and Taylor fancies her as soon as he sees her. She appears to return his interest. But he doesn't know that she's hiding a hatred of him, for she is convinced that he murdered her sister. There's a dent in her car bumper....

This is an adult romance with gritty characters, violence and strong language. Crime fans or readers of romantic suspense should enjoy it.

The second in Jo Davis's Sugarland Blue series, Hot Pursuit is the story of Detective Taylor Kayne, who's moved from Los Angeles to Sugarland to escape the trauma of a hostage situation gone wrong. Cara Evans follows him to right a wrong, from her perspective. Of course they end up ridiculously attracted to each other, and all kinds of angst and suspense ensue as their past rushes to catch up with them.

Again, Ms. Davis knows how to tell a story--I kept turning the pages to find out what happened. At the same time, there is some suspension of disbelief required to fully enjoy the ride :)

As we've gotten to know others in the department, I'm looking forward to another interesting read when the next book in the series comes out in September...

Second book in the Sugarland series is showing that this series is just as great and hopefully as long standing as the Firefighters of Station Five series was.

Detective Taylor Kayne is up to the plate in Hot Pursuit. We knew he had some demons from his past on the force in California and boy does his past come front and center.

This book was a blended amount erotic romance with lots of suspense and also with plenty of great characters. As with every book I’ve read of Jo Davis and her alter ego J.D. Davis I loved the story and the cast of characters she has in each book that just enriches the story that much more.

I love the fire station books and the sugar land blue is just the same! Hot sex, steamy moments. You are yelling for the characters wanting it all to work out. I can't wait for the next one to come out. This one was a little sad but it all works out if that spoils it for you then you don't read romance. Jo Davis has a money maker with these two series. Pick them up you will love them and I love how you get a moment with all the characters through all the books. It's like having your family reunite over and over again@@

Good Read. This is a Sugarland Blue Novel and does bring back other characters from previous books but they do not interfere with the story. Taylor is a detective who has moved to Sugarland to escape a case gone bad and people died. Cara travels to Sugarland in order to get even with Taylor because her sister died in that case. Unknown to both, there is another party who also seeks revenge but has spread lies in order to manipulate Cara. Cara is confused when she meets Taylor because he does not seem like what she has been led to believe.

I'm so glad Jo Davis is writing another series based in Sugarland. I loved the Firefighters of Station Five series, it's one of my favorite romantic suspense series.

I enjoyed Hot Pursuit even more than the previous books in the series, Armed and Dangerous and Sworn To Protect. Hot Pursuit has what I like in the books I read, romance, passion, and suspense. I am looking forward to the next book in the Sugarland Blue series, In His Sights, which is Chris's story. It's already pre-ordered. :)

This was the second book in the Sugarland PD series. You really have to suspend believability in this series as there is a lot of crime and plotting in a short amount of time in a small town. There are bad guys caught up in revenge schemes and murder plots. The chemistry between Taylor and Cara is good and there are some steamy moments. I'm not sure if I will be spending any more time in Sugarland as there is a lot of drama going on there. It might be time to take a break for me.

How would one choice in one moment change your life? How would it change someone else life? This book asks those questions and answers how it will affects the ones involved and this ones on the outside bounds. Not quite sure if the good guy saves the bad girl or the other way around, however for anyone who loves romance this is a really good read.

This was a bit more telling than showing. I was also extremely frustrated because on the first page, Taylor notes that he's twenty-eight then on page 12 he says he is 2 years older than Shane who will be turning thirty. This kind of oversight is really frustrating and I won't be continuing with this book. I might read another book in this series however.

This was a pretty good suspense story but the sex scenes interrupted the flow of the plot. It seems as if the author was told, "There's not enough sex, add more to the later chapters." I liked the characters but I felt they were not very deeply portrayed. A fun read but not much else.
