The complete guide to kombucha— the wildly popular probiotic tea.
Kombucha is lauded worldwide by healers, athletes, yogis, and other health-conscious souls, and is now going mainstream. Kombucha, a fermented tea beverage, has many cleansing, healing, and detoxifying effects.
Eric and Jessica Childs, founders of Kombucha Brooklyn and experts on the wonders of kombucha, share their knowledge in this complete guide to kombucha. In addition to the science and culture of ‘buch, Kombucha! includes recipes and reveals inventive uses for the beverage in cooking, cocktails, and beauty products, tapping the benefits of probiotics for radiant rejuvenation.
The writing style reminded me of a third-grade textbook, only less informative. Why would anyone buy a book on how to make kombucha when you can find better instructions online? I think I actually feel less inclined to brew my own now...
A good book for beginners and young people. The book is illustrated with superhero-like images, they call the readers booch brigadiers... which gets a little too much after a while but it might motivate the younger brewers among us because it's easy and light to read. There are plenty of recipes, not sure if I'm gonna eat some booch but I will for sure try out some cocktails.
The tone was too much for me, but the first couple chapters were interesting. I had hoped for more recipes for kombucha flavorings, rather than what to do with extra SCOBYs.
I will admit upfront I'm not fully endorsing the broad health claims made here, but for understandable, fun, and encouraging directions to brew Kombucha, this is the best guide I've found.
I was provided a complimentary copy by Avery. All opinions are my own.
This book has it ALL. Seriously. It starts by describing what kombucha actually is and how fermentation works. You also learn how kombucha came to be and how it spread thanks to kombuchasseurs (don't you just love that word?). The idea of brewing your own tasty kombucha may seem daunting- especially if you've ever watched your husband attempt to home brew his favorite IPA. But the authors explain everything and do a great job at simplifying the process and directions. They even include easy, healthy, and delicious recipes to transform you from a kombucha drinker to a kombucha eater! There are almost 70 pages of unique kombuca recipes that range from soup to apple pie. Did I mention the kombuca kocktails? They say you can detox while you retox! Best of all, this book is fun! Sometimes health or wellness books can be pretty dull. This book is definitely NOT one of those. The authors have great senses of humor that will keep you entertained the whole time! Now go get to brewing, join the 'buch revolution, and discover all the benefits for yourself!
I read this back in 2013/2014 and honestly it’s a great book, but the way it was written annoyed me plus all the ‘buch talk. Just call it kombucha please. I don’t know why this bothered me so much but it did 😅 Anyway, I let my kombucha go for a while there and just wanted to immerse myself in it again, so enjoyed reading this again - especially the sections on secondary fermentation as previously I preferred to do a continual fermentation, but this time I’m experimenting more with flavourings.
This book is a must read for all beginner kombrewers! It imparts knowledge far above and beyond any other research I have done. It starts with the history of Kombucha, delves into Kombucha basics, advanced kombrewing, and even recipes for kooking. I look forward to trying some of the Kombucha flavors and kooking they mention in the book. Fortunately, I have a batch fermenting in the kitchen as we speak.
Very helpful book to anyone starting to home-brew kombucha. Yes, there's tons of info online but I found this source to have the answers to all my questions plus some very helpful tips that were not online. It's a good resource. Only three stars because they tried to write with some wit that just didn't work for me. To me it detracted from their expertise.
This came with my brewing kit, and it's fantastic. They walk you through the process, explain everything, include history, anecdotes from their experiences, and give you recipes to launch your own experiments.
Great book for a novice brewer or even for someone looking to up their kombucha brewing game. The recipes are probably my favorite part and when I get a little more bold I'll actually try some of the more unusual ones.
Although it is just as easy to find all the instructions online, I found the flavour suggestions really helpful. It also helped me trouble shoot my carbonation issues. Success!
