The little story that could continues to do. Kyotaro finally figures things out, but his abysmal self-esteem and ample self-loathing threaten to ruin his chances before he even takes them. Then again, maybe not.
Kyotaro and Anna are one of the best manga couples ever. Period. You’d never have guessed by how much of an idiot Kyotaro could be in the first volume or so, but it’s pretty clear that he wants to love Anna (and she’s really into him) and can’t get around how little he thinks he deserves it.
All the usual things you expect from the series are out in full force. Moeka’s take on February 14th is one of the funniest ones I’ve yet seen and Adachi is at his most useless and hetero-idiot self. This helps offset the maddening dance as Kyotaro refuses to believe he’ll get chocolate and Anna keeps giving it to him.
It’s important to emphasize just how funny this is as well as romantic - Anna and Kyotaro end up developing their own greeting that is the silliest manifestation of Kyotaro’s chunibyo leanings we’ve seen, and his burgeoning friendship with Moeka starts to short circuit Anna by jealousy alone.
Anyway, the most Yamada and Ichikawa date ensues, with a special bonus guest, of course. It’s really rather spectacular at showing just what makes these two so brilliant together and just their gentle acceptance of one another is rather touching.
I don’t think this series will ever say anything quite so remarkably poignant as Kyotaro’s declaration here that the way that Yamada sees the world is beautiful. That also encapsulates how delightful this all is - Anna is, frankly, super weird and anxious about the strangest stuff. But that’s the parts that Kyotaro actually likes; he wants to see the world through her eyes.
This all snowballs into the return of the would-be player from the first volume and, I think, Christmas, who unsurprisingly turns out to be Adachi’s mentor in the ways of women, which explains a lot of things about a lot of things (although this odd redemption arc that may be brewing between Adachi and Moeka is going to be something else if it goes that way).
Of course, the only way this guy has a shot with Anna at all is because Kyotaro doesn’t have any faith in himself and thinks he left his ability to care about things in middle school. That also plays out with his imaginary idealized ‘shojo hero’ version of himself chastising him constantly.
But what’s keeping Kyotaro from being that version anyway? Oh, right, he is. So when his teacher taps him to give the farewell address as the school year ends, he gets roped into it and disaster looks incredibly likely as everything goes very wrong.
Look, let me just tell you that if ever a manga ended on a ‘stand up and cheer’ moment that feels like it was cut whole cloth from a feel-good movie, it might be this one. Plus or minus a porn stash and some fainting. But the whole thing is just note perfect and despite the slow progression here, there has always been progression, so it feels so earned when things go how they go.
This volume is just a triumph from start to finish. It gets even deeper into Kyotaro’s desire to be in Anna’s world, yet not believing he deserves to be there (witness the awkward photo shoot visit). And then it does things with that. And more stuff. And remembers its side characters and is funny as heck. It’s perfect.
5 stars - no, seriously, absolutely perfect. It’s one of the best romances I’ve read with two nuanced and delightful leads who are even better together. I say that a lot here, but it’s always true. Wonderful.

THAT IS THE BEST REJECTION EVER LIKE IT LITERALLY MADE ME TEAR UP AND FINALLY ICHIKAWA KNOWS THAT YES YAMADA LIKES HIM ANNNNN
No but the way she said "I have someone that i like you see, but my hands are full i can't accept that" (holding that one of couple keychains they got together) when he offered yamada his button to have it. I WAS SHEDDING HAPPY TEARS ALONG WITH HER!!!

This volume was fantastic! There are so many hilarious moments the facial expressions and jokes are on point. The drama is good as well and there are some tremendously sweet moments in this one. The parts where Kyotaro talks with himself were the highlights of the book. It is impressive how good this story is and how much more to it there is than just being a rom-com. I can't wait to read volume 7.

The confession wasn’t even for him, and he still won.
In The Dangers in My Heart, Volume 6, another guy confesses to Yamada, she says she already likes someone else, and Ichikawa is just standing there putting the pieces together.
Finally.
But honestly, the graduation speech might’ve been my favorite part. Ichikawa looks like he’d rather disappear, but he actually pushes through it and pulls it off. That is character development right there.
Four stars out of five.

Like all Japanese romance manga, the two are probably still miles away from a kiss, but the steady, cute and funny relationship they have is endearing. I'm a sucker for underdog oddball gets the class beauty. That is if he lets himself. Anna Yamada is one of the best female manga characters to come along in years. And the anime has been brilliantly handled, losing nothing from the appeal of the manga. Bravo!

Really cute; love end-of-year complications with graduations and everything, and especially confessions that don't actually clear anything up. Fun romance, will continue to read.
