برای شروع و آشنایی با دیدگاه های مطرح در فلسفه اخلاق بسیار کاربردی بود
در عین اینکه نظرات هر فیلسوف رو بیان میکرد نقد هایی که به نظریه‌ی وی شده بود و پاسخ های فیلسوف رو بیان کردن بود، کتاب به دنبال این نبود که بهترین نظریه فلسفه اخلاق رو پیدا کنه و صرفا در بین نظریات مطرح کاوش میکرد و قضاوت رو برعهده خواننده گذاشته بود.
