Muir Harbor #3

Wedding at Sea

Rate this book
Lilian doesn’t remember anything about her life before the day Maggie Muir found her on her front porch—a toddler, abandoned and alone. And maybe that’s okay. She has a beautiful life at Muir Farm, including an adopted family she adores and a successful career as a lawyer. But she also has a secret . . . one that raises just as many questions about her future as it does her unknown past.

And, of course, it would be private investigator Wilder Monroe, her brother’s best friend and the bane of her existence, who sniffs out her secret before anyone else.

Wilder has spent the past three years trying to close the one case his father couldn’t—the mystery of Maggie Muir’s long-lost granddaughter. But the decades-long search has become more tangled than ever. It’s become more personal, too. Not only are the Muirs the closest thing to family he has left, but if he can solve this mystery, maybe he'll keep himself from drowning in the one he can’t . . . the truth about his father’s death.

In the midst of secrets and swirling questions, Maggie asks a favor of both Lilian and put aside their bickering and work together to plan her summer wedding. It’s a big ask, made all the more difficult when danger comes calling at Muir Farm. But if the two enemies can stand each other long enough to pull off the event of the year, they just might solve a mystery in the process.

And the biggest discovery of all? That sometimes the one your heart longs for is the last person you ever would've expected.

4 stars, personally and such a good end to the series.

Two main currently:
1.) Awww, this series is over? :(
and 2.) They literally only communicate in banter, smirks, and glares, and I love it.

My personal Rating- Four Stars

I’ve been so excited to read Lil and Wilder’s story since they first appeared in “Autumn by the Sea”. I’ve been eagerly anticipating this book for months and I’ve read it now. I’m honestly quite sad that this series is over now. I’ll still hope that Mariana (Lilian’s assistant) will get her own story because I feel like she deserves her own story (just please not a second chance romance!), but for now, this series is done.

Here’s the thing about this trilogy: it’s not just all roses and sunshine and cute romance—I mean, it has those squee-worthy parts, yes, but there’s also a depth within the books because of what the characters have gone through that make them feel so real and also the mystery that’s carried on through all three books which adds in some suspenseful moments at times.

I think that’s the thing that’s made this series stand out to me: the almost life-like characters with their struggles. If you told me there was a Muir family in Maine with Maggie, Neil, Liliana, and Indie that this series is based on, I wouldn’t doubt it—that’s how realistic it felt. I felt like I was reading about real people and that even though this book ended (with that perfect epilogue, by the way), it feels like they’re still around just living their own lives, Sydney and Neil being adorable, Indie and Philip being literally the cutest, Lil and Wilder driving the other crazy, and Maggie sharing wisdom. I love that feeling. It makes my heart happy—and yes, partially because that means the author could revisit those characters again at any time (hint hint 😉).

The one thing I didn’t like in this story was that past events and secrets were kept by the main characters, teasing and taunting the reader with hints about them, but not giving us all the details about everything until the very end. Which I know this trilogy technically has a mystery, but I don’t like being left out of the loop, so those parts kind of bothered me a lot with our main couple and their secrets. Sure, sure, keep secrets from the other, I don’t really care since you’re not a couple yet, but tell me—the reader! I want to know! (Me? Nosy? Yes.)

Oh, I’m sad this trilogy is done. But it was such a good series and such a good ending, I can’t be upset. All I can do is happily sigh. 😌

See y’all on Friday with a new review!

Wedding at Sea is a satisfying end to a series featuring a patchwork family stitched together by Maggie Muir, whose family founded Muir Harbor many years ago. She has three adult children adopted out of love and this is Lilian and Wilder's story, two people who have butted heads for many years; Lil's glares make Wilder chuckle. He's really part of the family and stays at the farmhouse many nights rather than sleep on his houseboat. He and Lil's brother Neil are best friends. Maggie asks them to plan her wedding set in six weeks. Can they get it done? They are probably my favorite couple of the series, as they go from enemies to friends to more, maybe.
But also, there are some answers to different questions we have had threaded in the series. Throughout the years, Wilder's dad Harry, a PI, and now Wilder, following in his footsteps, have been trying to find what happened to Maggie's granddaughter Cynthia, child of her first adopted daughter killed in an auto accident twenty-eight years ago. Lil really wants to know her roots and background as she has some faint memories. This multilayered story has it all, romance, mystery, suspense, family, love, and faith to know that God knows answers, even if we don't. I highly recommend this lovely series with wonderful characters and a great coastal setting in Maine.
I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. These are my thoughts.

Wedding at Sea is not only a Romance story but also a mystery that started in book one of the series and ends in this book. Readers have long waited to find out what happened to Cynthia Muir , Maggie Muir’s missing granddaughter. Lillian Muir and Wilder Monroe are the main characters and this book is all about their story. I loved their conversations and thought it bought humor to the story. This book brings out a lot of different emotions as the book progresses. The books ending was happy but it seemed as though the author had too many ends to tie up before the last page. A few questions were left unanswered making me wonder if perhaps these characters may be carried over into another series.

Lillian Muir doesn’t really like her brother Neil’s best friend. He hurt her feelings when she was ten years old and she never forgave him for his insensitive remarks all those years ago. Now she and Wilder Monroe have been asked to be wedding planners for Maggie’s wedding. Not only is Lillian busy in her law practice but strange things have been happening in her life lately. Wilder has been busy trying to solve a thirty year old missing persons case. Now he has to work with a woman who can’t stand to be in the same room with him for an extended amount of time. How will they ever be able to work together in order to plan this wedding in just six weeks ?

I recommend this book to readers of Contemporary Romance and mystery suspense. This book is the finale of Melissa Tagg’s Muir Harbor series. It would be better to read the series in order to better understand the plot of the story and distinguish who the characters are and their role in the book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of Wedding at Sea. All thoughts and opinions expressed here in this review are my own.

Ladies and gentlereaders, she stuck the landing. Full marks. Not surprised, just in awe of how this gave everything it needed to give for our third Muir couple and their individual journeys and also bring the overarching family mystery to its masterful finale. Call it a Wilder Monroe gut instict, I had a feeling this would be a great series, and I loved every minute. Who said it’s over? I’m certainly not leaving; Maggie would never make me go.

We continue to live up to-what should be-the Muir family motto: “Everyone has their ‘own tangles to unravel’” (I’m sure it’s embroidered into a pillow or something). “We Love a Good Cry Sesh” is close second. Cue Julia Michaels “Issues”, we have a Muir couple that have known each other for a lot more than 14 days, and yet the relationship progression and depth was just as whirlwind spot on, while keeping the numerous hidden-turmoil plates spinning. ‘Cause there’s a lot of unraveling to be done, but let’s make it brother’s best friend, one-sided animosity, loves-to-ruffle-her-feathers banter, wedding planning/mystery solving forced proximity heaven. The kind that has you pouring your heart out to the man who has been the object of your scowling for decades. And it’s the one-boat trope with so many amazing scenes and so much more of both farmhouse and seaside epic landscapes. Just as the mystery and peril ramps up in this finale, so does the chemistryyyy, as the playful banter tension doesn’t fade when the animosity disipates and, honestly, how does Wilder manage to both be grinning tease and rip your heart out? That third act required committed reader sleep sacrifices with all the what’re-the-odds twists and, thank Maggie’s blueberry pie, to be rewarded with a full-cast time jump epilogue.

There might be less guest rooms available at this point, but, head over to Muir Farm to fall in love with a found family, beautiful setting, all-in angsty, sweet romance and hard-earned faith. Such a great series.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for ARC of this respendlent last installment.

Content notes: kissing only, predominant on-page parent-loss grief, mention of cancer death, on-page health scare, on-page adoptee grief, mention of teenage pregnancy, on page shooting violence. Predominant themes of faith.

The author makes contemporary romance such an enjoyable genre for me. While it’s not my go-to genre, I’ll always read any book the author writes because she knows how to tell a good story while keeping it clean and making it just such a fun read. I can’t remember the last time I actually laughed out loud reading a book, but I did multiple times with this one. Some of the themes were just so beautifully portrayed. Overall, a lovely read ☺️

I loved getting to see Lillian and wilders story unfold.

This is definitely an all time favorite book and I just can’t put into words how much I love it. It’s all so real and relatable in one way or another. I love the Muir family and Muir Harbor!! 🤍

"Hope was stronger when it was chosen and chased and held close despite the odds."

It's been a while since I've picked up a Melissa Tagg book and I'm glad to have read this one. Though it's third book in the series, it can still be read as a stand-alone. There are plenty of details and in-depth references sprinkled in to make sure you aren't lost or confused when the characters are talking about past events (FYI, I haven't read the first two books in the series yet). I loved the setting of Muir Harbor in Maine and really enjoyed getting to know the entire Muir family and the overarching theme of Maggie Muir's desire to find her granddaughter. Lily is spunky and driven, though oftentimes too impulsive, arrogant, and prickly. Wilder is fun, charming, and quite delightful though he loves to antagonize Lily and is haunted by grief, loss, and self-doubt. As Wilder and Lily dig further and deeper into Maggie's deceased daughter's past, the carefully latched top to the big box of secrets blows wide open to provide plenty of twists and turns in the mystery portion of the story. There is a solid faith thread to provide grounding and foundation for the characters as the mystery unravels. Older brother's best friend and enemies to lovers romance tropes provided lots of romantic tension between Lily and Wilder.

If you enjoy contemporary romance that tugs at the heart and has some mystery/sleuthing involved, you will love this book. I received a complimentary copy courtesy of publisher via NetGalley and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

The final book in this series, A Wedding at Sea, provides a compelling conclusion to the entire story. It ties up loose ends and resolves mysteries that have been woven throughout the plot since the first book.

Lilian's early childhood memories are a blur, as she was discovered by Maggie Muir as a toddler, abandoned on her doorstep. However, Lilian is content with her current life living on Muir Farm with her adopted family and thriving career as a lawyer. Despite her contentment, Lilian harbors a secret.

Wilder has been investigating a case for the past three years that his father never solved—the search for Maggie Muir's granddaughter who has been missing for decades. This investigation has become more complicated and personal for Wilder as he is close to the Muir family and hopes to uncover the truth behind his father's death.

The romance is satisfying and the story is engaging, with unexpected twists that add to the intrigue. Reading the books in order is recommended to avoid confusion. The series explores themes of faith, family, forgiveness, and moving on from the past to embrace the blessings of the future that God has provided for this family.

Clean romance, kisses only, Brothers' best friend, enemies to lovers, small-town romance, and an intriguing mystery.

I would like to express my gratitude to NetGalley and the Publisher for providing me with the eARC. The opinions shared are solely my own.

When you are waiting for the third and final book of a series, there is always a little apprehension: Will it live up to my expectations? In the case of Wedding at Sea, it is a resounding yes!

Lillian and Wilder are a compelling and swoon worthy couple. From their first interaction, I wondered how they would eventually get together. Maggie forcing their proximity to plan her wedding felt like the perfect opportunity. They definitely hit all the enemies to lovers trope notes but in a way that felt natural and organic. They are sassy and sarcastic with one another that later leads to vulnerability and tenderness that left me rooting even harder for them.

The underlying mystery of what happened the night Diana died and Cynthia disappeared is answered in a fully satisfying way. I did not one of the twists coming and it left goosebumps on my arms.

Melissa Tagg continues to be the bar for how to handle God in a novel. Faith is never a forced topic, but rather intertwined in meaningful and genuine ways.

Overall, this book hits all the right tones and left me fully satisfied with both the couple's story as well as the underlying mystery. I highly recommend this book! 5 Stars!

Thank you to Larkspur Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read the book early! I was not asked to give a positive review. All opinions expressed are 100% my own.

Wedding at Sea is the 3rd and final book in Melissa Tagg’s Muir Harbor series. She saved the best couple and the biggest mystery to the very end! It’s definitely a ‘can’t put it down’ kind of read!
Our leading lady, Lilian Muir, has grown up always wondering where she came from and why someone would leave her as a 2 year old on Maggie Muir’s doorstep.
Our main man, Wilder Monroe, presents himself as a confident, fun-loving P.I. whose gut-instincts are almost always annoyingly correct. But underneath all that, Wilder has his own hurts and insecurities that he is struggling to overcome.
These two have known each other for years and no love has been lost over those years BUT when their beloved Maggie asks them to join together to plan her wedding……WOW! Sparks start to fly! I loved all the scenes where these two go toe to toe. And the kissing……Awh!!!!! *heart eyes*
On top of all of this is the mystery that has carried through since the beginning of the series. The final twist in the mystery, I did not see coming!!! Melissa did not disappoint with how she tied that all up!
My favorite part came at the very end…..the Epilogue!!!! I LOVE a good epilogue! This epilogue leaves you with a smile in stead of being super sad such an awesome story has ended!

I high recommend this book to anyone who has loved Melissa’s other stories. While this is the 3rd in a series it can be read as a stand alone because Melissa does such a great job filling in the blanks!

I received an ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are mine and given freely.

Wow! I so loved this book. The last in the series, we finally get some answers that I wasn’t sure we’d find out. You begin to see who Wilder really is and get to watch his relationship with Lillian develop from enemies…to so much more. ❤️ and of course the long awaited “wedding at sea.” Read all the books in the series and you wont regret it at all. Thank you, Melissa Tagg, for the opportunity to read an early copy!!

This book gave me ALL the feels! What a superb and perfect ending to the Muir Harbor series. This story is all the things I wanted for the finale and the wrap up to the mysteries woven into the storyline, and don’t even get me started on Lilian and Wilder…oh mylanta their chemistry is off the charts! Then there was the scene where I laughed till I all but cried..love moments like those! I really hope we see a character introduced in this book get her own story(pretty please!) and the shout out to Maple Valley thrilled my bookish heart. I will definitely be adding copy of this gorgeous book to my favorites shelf as soon as possible! I can’t do this book justice so let me end by simply saying I loved this story!

This was the perfect book to get me out of a reading slump! You'll definitely want to read the first two books in the series first, though.

For fans of Muir Harbor, "Wedding at Sea" is the perfect conclusion to the series. It doesn't tie everything up in a neat little bow--but it answers the questions we've been desperate to know since the first book.

As we've come to expect in Muir Harbor, there are discussions of difficult topics. But the family that Maggie has created through adoption--ups and downs and difficulties included--is what makes this series truly beautiful. Highly recommended--especially if you're in a reading slump.

Honestly this was such a good book, and very quick and easy read. It felt as though i was really connecting with the characters and i loved how even though it was third person point of view, the chapters still focused on one person at a time and we got an insight into what they were thinking and feeling. I had a few sneaking suspicions throughout the book and loved to see how the story played out and if i was correct, and there were definitely a fair share of plot twists along the way that i loved to see.

To put it simply it was a great mystery unfolding book with romance weaved into it.

Tropes included were amazing too: brothers best friend, enemies to lovers, unsuspecting romance, small town romance, found family and the list just goes on.

The writing of this book was fantastic and it felt like the story just flowed so well.

What was the last book you read that you couldn't put down? You know-the one that makes you set aside all of your responsibilities, grab a cup of coffee and a blanket, and read in your favorite reading chair all day. For me, it was Melissa Tagg's Wedding at Sea.

If you've read the first two books in the Muir Harbor series, you know that the tension has been building for Lilian and Wilder. You could cut the animosity between these two with a butter knife. Their story is the one I've been patiently waiting for...ok, not so patiently. 😉 I had no idea how the author was going to write their love story when Lilian hated Wilder so much.

But true to form, Melissa Tagg weaves them together in a forced proximity, enemies to lovers trope that I 1000% loved. Forced proximity/fake dating is my favorite. This book did it in a way that was fun and new. And the almost/first kisses--wow. I won't spoil any surprises for you, but there is an elevator involved and...it's very, very good.

A lot of the mystery from the series gets wrapped up in this book, and many questions answered. I was so surprised by some of the answers that I found myself sitting up straight in my chair with a shocked face. Thankfully, I was home alone for those moments. 🤣 This story has a lot of romance and a seriously good mystery plot line that kept me so engaged. Honestly-I tried to get some housework done, but after 20 minutes of work, I was still trying to figure out how Lil and Wilder would fall in love--and piece together the puzzle--that I sat down my cleaning supplies and cozied back up with this book.

As always, this author brings in so much more than just a love/mystery story. There were deeper truths woven into the journey. Fear and doubt, taking chances, putting down roots without sacrificing the adventure, family. I learned from this book in ways that I didn't expect.

We get to meet a new character that I hope gets her own book one day. She's witty and bright, and I cannot wait to hear more about her new venture in Muir Harbor. And for Melissa Tagg fans, our favorite fabric shows up in an unexpected, but perfect way.

Lilian and her brother's best friend have an antagonistic relationship and we finally learn why. In Wedding at Sea, they're compelled to work with each other per Maggie's request and things changed.

I always expected Lilian and Wilder to end up together but I enjoyed the process. Watching Lilian reveal a softer side of herself and show compassion to Wilder reminded me that things aren't always as they seem. Sometimes people are carrying around huge weights they never mention and need just a little kindness.

Wedding at Sea is book three in the Muir Harbor trilogy and is best read in order as there are storylines that began in earlier books.

Readers of Wedding at Sea will be reminded that God is trustworthy even when we're walking through a dark place with no end in sight.

I received an advanced reader's copy from the publisher through NetGalley; a positive review was not required.

everything I hoped it would be

Avid Melissa Tagg fan here. Read allllll her books, and I have to say this series? *chef’s kiss* Such an exquisite blend of romance, mystery, emotion… an absolutely perfect conclusion to the Muir Harbor trilogy. I especially loved the tie to Maple Valley! I knew Wilder and Lil’s story would be packed with chemistry since they practically leaped off the pages of the other books with it, and it was all I could’ve hoped for and then some. And I can’t even talk about my favorite parts, feels, or anything because spoilers! Gah! I’m going to have to run off and find a fellow fan to gush with later. Just go ahead and get the book, k?

Wedding at Sea by Melissa Tagg is a dramatic conclusion to the series. Happy sigh. I reiterate what I said in my review of A Seaside Wonder: Read the books in order! Do not read this book without reading the first two, or you will get major spoilers, and you do not want this series spoiled. It is so enchanting.

Wow. I don't have the words to express how deeply this story touched my heart. It is deep, emotional, enchanting (I know I already said it, but it bears repeating), heart-wrenching, mysterious, swoony, funny, and brings out all the feels.

We get a deep dive into Lillian and Wilders stories. They are complex and fascinating. There is so much happening in this story, but the prevailing mystery is wrapped up, and boy was it amazing! I did not see that coming!! I would love to see so much more from these characters and this setting.

This much-anticipated conclusion to the Muir Harbor series is one I could hardly wait to begin reading and then dreaded coming to a close! I know I will reread this series again. Melissa Tagg's development from an author of funny rom-coms to amazing family sagas is one I've delighted in watching. There is something for everyone in this book: the kind, caring Maggie, beloved family matriarch who is getting her own happy ending; the baffling decades-long mystery; loveable workaholic Lillian; and of course Wilder who is both haunted and hopeful. I highly recommend this book and series!

I enjoyed the enemies to lovers trope. Wilder was my favorite from the very beginning of the series and I liked getting to know him better and loved the romance between him and Lil. I was surprised how things came together in the end. I did find some of the mystery confusing at times but overall a good read.

Beautiful stories, main characters are relatable, gorgeous setting, family, hope, courage to change and not let fear stop you. Yep, it'll bring tears too, happy tears. I enjoyed the mystery also.

Wedding at Sea is the last book in Melissa Tagg's Muir Harbor series.
I've loved all the books in the series but especially this one because it ties up all the loose ends in such wonderful ways.
It also had a mystery that was quite involved that I couldn't solve.

I loved the smart and clever Lilian and Wilder. The Maine setting was perfect and the cover of the book is exquisite! One of the most beautiful I've seen but all of Melissa's covers are gorgeous.

This series of Maggie Muir's adopted children is full of heart, faith and hope. I recommend it highly.
Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read this book. The opinions are entirely my own.

Lillian, with no memory of her life before Maggie Muir found her abandoned as a toddler, has built a beautiful life at Muir Farm with her adopted family and a successful career as a lawyer. Wilder, deeply involved in the case of Maggie Muir's long-lost granddaughter, has spent years trying to solve the mystery. As Maggie asks Lillian and Wilder to set aside their differences and plan her summer wedding, they must work together, the tension of their animosity palpable. The romance between Wilder and Lillian was not just heartfelt but also incredibly enjoyable. Their love story will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy. I especially like the way the series ended up. Their interactions and annoyance with each other were enjoyable, and I found myself laughing a couple of times.

"So you want the two of us to plan your wedding? I'm flattered. And a little surprised. Confused, actually. I'm not really the event-planner type." (he said)
"And I'm more than capable of doing it on my own." (she said)

Somewhere along the way, Wilder and Lillian became enemies. He is her adopted brother's best friend. So he was unsure as to why they couldn't get along. When they are asked to work together to plan a wedding, at first they both loudly protested. But soon they find out that perhaps they need to find a way to work together in many more ways as well.

As always with this author's books, there are many layers. Her characters always have reasons for their behavior. But they often need prompting to understand their motivations in order to make changes. This is definitely true for both Wilder and Lillian. I loved how they both grew and developed throughout the course of this book.

Maggie is definitely the backbone to this storyline. Getting to see how her life comes full circle is beautiful. Also I am glad that Neil and Indi and several others appear again prominently as well.

I have loved the Muir Harbor series. The characters are connected in unlikely and unexpected ways. While all three books could be classified as romances, there are many additional important elements including faith, family, small town life and even a bit of mystery. This third book even leaned toward suspense. This trilogy of titles is definitely intertwined, so I do recommend reading all of the books in order. I am definitely hoping that the author returns to this beautiful, fictional town.

Initially I did read this book through NetGalley, but I requested it because I did not want to wait for the release date. Actually, I preordered this one but was happy to have gotten to read the book before it officially arrived. I literally could not wait for Wilder and Lillian's story. All opinions expressed are my own.

What a wonderful ending to this Muir Harbor series! My heart feels like bursting!

This book was perfection, every time I read a Melissa Tagg book I say it’s my new favorite and I’m proud to say it again. This one tops the rest. Wilder and Lilian’s story is top notch, the banter, sarcasm, grief, the not knowing! It was so beautifully done.

Maggie’s mystery as I like to call it (so there are no spoilers) is solved and in such an unexpected awesome way! It was amazing the way everything just came together in the end.

I loved this series so much and I’ll be looking forward to the next Melissa Tagg novel!

I received an ARC through netgalley for an honest review, all opinions are my own.
