I received this book for free years ago when I first bought my Kindle Keyboard and it still makes me frown when I see its title. I don't think I'm very picky when it comes to books, especially since it was free and fantasy is my favorite genre. But this - this was truly painful to read. Please, read the individual books reviews and Google this author's shenanigans before wasting any time or money on this garbage.

Someone else here on Goodreads posted this about him.

Again, we are bombarded with drivel and this time, over 1,000 pages of it. These books practically read the same. Some paragraphs are cut and pasted in different parts of Stanek's many books. If you've read one, you've pretty much read them all. These books are just sentences that seemed randomly put together or the author wrote words, cut them up, threw the pieces in the air and wrote them in the order in which they fell. The stories go nowhere. The plot is non existent. It's just words formed into paragraphs. The story is all over the place. These books are the hardest to comprehend. And I comprehend books easily. Not with Stanek. Get your dictionary out, guys. Better yet, keep away from his books. Worst kid's fantasy by far. An author needs its reader to 'feel' for these characters. The only thing I felt was sick. I didn't care what happened to Vilmos or Adrina aside for the fact I wanted to slap them. I do not recommend these in any way, shape or form. Save your money. There are much better writers out there with much cheaper prices and that aren't frauds. Stay away!

I couldn't bring myself to keep reading past the first few chapters, the writing is just not good. There might be a good story buried in there, but even if there is, to me it's not worth the frustration of reading more of this to reach it.

Awesome, impossible to put down

Thanks to this series Robert Stanek has quickly become my favorite author. This is how fantasy should be done. Interesting characters, deep plots, expansive world. It's refreshing too that the villains are as well done as the heroes. Gives the reader lots to think about. Don't hesitate to buy this or any others by this fantastic author.

Loved it! What a steal for a well written and well crafted series of novels. Robert Stanek delivers a fantastic fantasy epic that you can slip into easily and quickly becomes a favorite.
