But when the woman goes missing, Kitty realizes there is more to this mystery than meets the eye. This is a good mystery. I borrowed this book from KindleUnlimted. This in no way affects my opinion of this book.
This mystery short is a wonderful introduction to both the series cozy capers of which this is 1 of 3 published and the longer novels featuring Kitty and her fellow detectives. The series is well plotted and the recurring characters are engaging and likeable. The historical background is very well done. These two series are wonderful reads and the mysteries can keep you guessing as you read carefully to find the clues. You don't have to be a Sherlock or Watson, but in the words the words of another well known detective use your gray cells
I liked this story and I enjoy reading about the independent women of that era who took upon themselves to find something to do worthwhile and help others. The characters became beloved to me quickly, especially Lady Worthington, a character to admire. The plot is easily followed, and the premise is finding out who kidnapped another lady's standard poodle and why. The why was easy, but the who was hard won. I definitely recommend this book.
It's a very boring story with dull characters. I can stand the not-so-mysterious case itself, but the constant redundant sentences are trying my patience. The narrator likes to state the obvious things or describe things that are not relevant and do not add to the story. The book's only merit is its length. Any longer would be a torture. Maybe readers who have read about Kitty Worthington can enjoy this, but I don't have the intention to read more.

I started this thinking it was the first in a series - which it sort of is, but it's the first in a spin off novella series from a longer form mystery series and there are a lot of references to those prior cases and assumptions that you are already familiar with the characters and their backstories. Add to that the fact that the language choices for British-English characters in the 1920s were all over the place and it really didn't work for me at all.
I have read the first full novel for Kitty Worthington, which I enjoyed a lot, so thought I would give the short story collection a go. I did enjoy this story, it was written and paced well with a good cast of characters, this included some unscrupulous villains that were suitably villainous. I will read the next three in the series but I personally think the full novels are better.

This is a short charming tale that starts out with a poodle sporting a diamond collar. She is dog napped who h leads to a criminal family's business dealings.
I'm so glad we're getting to see some of the small cases that were briefly mentioned in the main series. This dognapping story was great fun! I just love these characters and I can't wait to see what they get into next!
Kitty Worthington is hired to locate a missing standard poodle. As the pieces come together, a person of I interest is discovered and Once the poodle is found, the person is captured. A great read for an historical cozy follower.
Novella. One of Kitty's cases that does not involve murder, but instead the kidnapping of a beloved dog from a very rich woman. Naturally Kitty recovers the pooch, but not without some interesting adventures along the way.
Well I say not bad, but it was a trifle silly. And as usual Kitty does the exact opposite of what she agrees to do. But she finds the dog so it's all okay. I do hope you get the sarcasm in that comment.
I realise this is a side novella series, and it was amazing how twisty the investigation could be in that short a span, but we saw almost no depth to the characters at all.
