Have you ever wondered if you’re actually doing okay?Laura thought she was doing just fine. She had a successful career, a great partner, and everything in her life looked good on paper. Knowing more about trauma can help us enrich our own lives and help heal our society by changing the way we treat others. As a fellow nurse, I briefly learned about different types of therapy in school, but this book really opened my eyes to how beneficial they can be. I really respect how open and vulnerable Laura was with her story. It created a comfortable space for me to reflect on my own inner thoughts and trauma while inspiring me to work on changing certain aspects of my life! This book is educational but enjoyable to read as well, despite the tough topics being covered. I highly recommend this read!

Many of us wander around without the appropriate boundaries, telling ourselves to suck it up, keep going - in words we’d never use with strangers much less someone dear to us. And yet that’s the mantra: suck it up buttercup. Tell everyone you’re fine. Be the hero. If you’re not fine, you’re the weakest link! Cue drill instructor yelling from somewhere deep within.
I think this should be mandatory reading for anyone who’s dealt with emotional abusers or even those who have found themselves living with severe pain while medical professionals scratch their heads and tell you everything seems normal. When everything inside you is screaming it’s not.
Open, honest memoir about healing from emotional and physical pain. Definitely relatable. 100% human. Never preachy. Just a story to help inspire you to start your own journey.
And stop telling everyone you’re fine when you’re genuinely not. Because being “not fine” is when you can truly relate to someone else, open that door to yourself, and start looking for a better tomorrow.

Trigger warnings ⚠️ notice. Worth the read. Thank you Laura for sharing your unbelievable-believable story that continues.

She does a wonderful job of walking the reader through her own experience with trauma to illustrate its intricacies. You will gain practical skills for regulating your sympathetic nervous system and overcoming the difficulties you face on a daily basis as a result of trauma. With this groundwork already laid out, it's much more plausible to take the first step toward obtaining one's own healing.
Solid read for anyone struggling for answers for a complicated healthcare situation
As someone who also works in healthcare and has had multiple complications in healthcare that are incredibly frustrating and disappointing, the author really goes over all the ways you as a patient are going to have to address ALL the areas you need to address to truly heal.
Trauma is real and surgeries, especially unelected ones, are trauma that can bring up stuff you never saw coming. They can do some insane things to your life. And healthcare is so fragmented and immediate need focus, it just hasn't gotten to the stage of full healing much less prevention.
I respect the author for the courage to write this story. The story is an inspiration for anyone. Like the author concluded: Go easy on yourself. And most importantly, it’s okay to say, “No, I’m not fine.
Laura is a amazing!! I loved how the story went from her own personal traumas to things that have worked for her to heal. I love her sense of humor too!

I absolutely loved this book! Laura is a fantastic writer and she is able to include humor and education while detailing traumatic events throughout her life. It is inspiring, motivational, and impossible to put down!
Very eye opening about all kinds of trauma and the consequences of it. Many things she wrote hit home for me...especially that you don't need to be productive to be worthy..a very hard lesson to learn! Great job LAURA!
