I believe this needed more pictures. The information was there, but if I did not have a basic understanding and had already started to grow mushrooms. I would have been lost in a few areas. The information about actually inoculating the media always seemed fuzzy. One wasn't sure if it was seed spawn, fruiting block material, or other. At times it appeared he could be referring to substrate in a box or a bag when stuff was in a bucket. The reference to misting the cardboard seemed odd. At times it seemed it was the bucket, then he referred to the inside of the plastic bag. Was he misting the holes in the bucket or taking the lid off? This seems odd if you are trying not to introduce mold but removing the lid to mist. This means you are opening the bag that is around the bucket and sealed. I would have given this a 3.5 if it existed. I think a re-release with better pictures and refined instruction for the true beginner is needed. Then this book would be the go-to book for everyone. I m not knocking this book. I just think it can be better.

Mushrooms have such high standards! But seriously, this book is fantastic. As someone just looking into growing mushrooms, I felt informed, inspired, and overwhelmed. This book is so extensive in the information it covers, but the author is clearly passionate about the topic, which made it quite enjoyable to read. The inclusion of pictures and graphs will make it easy to reference later. There were definitely moments I wanted more photos, however, as well as times that I would have needed more information to really understand what he was talking about.
