The alien prince is on the hunt for revenge. And buying me is part of his master plan.

I was safe hiding on the outskirts of the galaxy and singing in a dingy nightclub. Until the menacing alien prince with the platinum hair and claiming gaze bought my debt. Now I’m traveling on his ship as his guide while he searches for vengeance.

Despite the prince’s promise to protect me, he has no idea what he’s set in motion by plucking me from obscurity. As we get closer to him exacting his revenge, I’m in danger of being taken by someone even more deadly.

Prince is a full-length sci-fi romance novel with a HEA and no cheating. It features steamy scenes on an alien spaceship, thrilling space battles, and some serious heat.

I love sexy aliens and independent heroines. I grew up on Star Trek: Next Generation and Star Wars (and I adore them equally). My favorite superhero is Thor (with Aquaman a close second because, well, Jason Momoa), my favorite dessert is key lime pie (okay, fine, all pie), and I still lament the loss of Firefly.

I live in North Carolina in the US and have one husband, two teenagers, and two neurotic cats. I sometimes wish I could teleport to a holographic space station like the one in my tribute brides series (or maybe vacation at the oasis with the sand planet barbarians). :-) When I'm not writing, I love to paddleboard, dive, travel, and read obsessively!

🎧 Audiobook Review: Prince (Raider Warlords of the Vandar, #9)

Author: Tana Stone
Genre: Science Fiction Romance / Alien Romance
Narrators: Marcio Catalano and Chloe Ryan

📚 Characters & Background

Vex, heir to the Selk throne and Ronan’s embittered half‑brother, has spent his life nursing a quiet fury. His childhood dream of becoming King has always been overshadowed by the existence of Ronan and the other half‑Vandar offspring—living reminders of the Vandar warriors who once came to Selk, mated with Selkee women, and left behind children who never quite belonged. Vex’s resentment has hardened into a mission: track down Ronan, defeat him, and secure a promise that he will never return to Selk.

Aubrey, on the other hand, is a smoky‑lounge singer on a forgotten edge‑world, bound by an indenture she’s desperate to escape. Her past is marked by loss, wanderlust, and a lingering fear tied to the alien thug she and her mother once fled. When Vex arrives and buys out her contract—not out of compassion, but because he needs a guide who knows the far reaches—Aubrey is thrust into a journey that forces her to confront both her past and her unexpected connection to the stoic prince.

As they travel from planet to planet, Vex’s single‑minded pursuit begins to unravel. Even after learning Ronan has reunited with the Vandar and poses no threat to Selk, Vex continues the search, unable to admit that what he’s really chasing is time—time with the woman he can’t allow himself to keep.

🌟 Strengths

• Vex’s character arc is one of the story’s strongest elements, shifting him from rigid and resentful to someone capable of vulnerability and change.
• Aubrey’s mysterious past adds tension and emotional depth, especially her fear that the dangerous figure she once escaped may still be hunting her.
• Tana Stone delivers her signature blend of romance, action, suspense, and heat, creating a fast‑moving story that still leaves room for emotional resonance.

💔 Limitations

• The romance leans heavily into slow burn territory, and I found myself wishing Vex and Aubrey had connected—and acted on their chemistry—a bit sooner.

🎙️ Narration

The duet narration by Marcio Catalano and Chloe Ryan elevates the entire experience.

• Catalano’s deep, steady delivery captures Vex’s internal conflict, ambition, and simmering intensity with impressive nuance.
• Ryan’s warm, expressive performance brings Aubrey’s strength, vulnerability, and quiet determination into sharp focus.

Their voices complement each other beautifully, making the alternating perspectives feel seamless and emotionally grounded.

💬 Final Assessment

This audiobook blends interstellar adventure with a slow‑building romance that ultimately pays off with satisfying emotional depth. Vex and Aubrey’s journey is layered with tension, mystery, and personal transformation, and while the pacing of their relationship may feel deliberate, the payoff is worth the wait. Tana Stone continues to expand her universe with compelling characters and high‑stakes storytelling, and the excellent narration adds an extra layer of immersion. Fans of sci‑fi romance with heart, heat, and character growth will find this installment both engaging and rewarding.

Prince by Tana Stone is a standalone sci-fi romance novel that tells the story of an alien prince and a human songstress. It is the tenth book in the Raider Warlords of the Vandar series.

Vex, the Prince of Selk, is seeking revenge and encounters Aubrey in a dismal cantina, working off her mother's debt by performing as a songstress. Vex is captivated by her beauty and sultry voice. The last thing he needs is a distraction from his mission, but he cannot deny his reaction to Aubrey. Vex purchases Aubrey by paying off her debt to the cantina owner, and she becomes his guide through the galaxy. As they spend time together, their relationship becomes more than a means to an end.

This sci-fi adventure was enjoyable, featuring a slow-burning romance between the main characters, Aubrey and Vex. While I appreciated the inclusion of the secondary characters, I wished for more page time dedicated solely to the development of Aubrey and Vex's relationship. Despite the author's tantalizing hints at Vex's darker side, I was left wanting more exploration of this intriguing ancestral darkness that all Selk carried. The chemistry between Aubrey and Vex was palpable, but again I felt the author could have delivered more intimate moments to showcase their connection. Nevertheless, the world-building was great, and I found the themes of trust, loyalty, and the power of love to be absorbing. The epilogue, in particular, left a lasting smile on my face and was a fitting conclusion to this exciting adventure.

Tropes: forbidden romance, royalty, damsel in distress, space opera, emotional scars

Warlords of Vandar is always a great idea to get me out of a book slump.

📔 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼: Prince, book 9 in the Warlords of Vandar series by Tana Stone.

📚𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Sci-fi romance

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Prince Vex is hunting the Vandar to ban them from his home planet. On one of the stops, he meets Aubrey - a human who he is immediately taken with.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: This wasn’t my favorite of the series, but it was for sure just the ticket to get me out of the reading slump I was in. Bonus was that it was shorter, so it want a huge mental lift.

It did have everything I liked about the series - broody, stubborn alien and a strong and resilient human, some spice and that final chapter swoon. I love these books, especially when I need a palette cleanser, and this was just the trick.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 3/5 ⭐⭐⭐

As usual, I enjoyed this story, as I do with Tana Stone’s storytelling ability. Vex is abit of a wildcard for me, not sure whether I like him, but he has his moments. I don’t think this story’s characters are as strong as previous Vandar characters, but maybe that’s because Vex is pure Selkie 🤷‍♀️ I received an ARC copy of this book from author and am leaving a review voluntarily

🔥 “You are playing with fire. But I think you like danger, don’t you?”
~~~
I loved Aubrey! She’s such a strong, brave and resilient woman. And she’s an amazing singer, too! Even more, I loved her courage to stand up for herself and face any hardships thrown her way. But, she’s been on the run from a Gorglik bounty hunter since childhood, and is constantly looking behind her back. Maybe a silvery blond warrior is about to change that?
Vex is the heir to the throne of Selk and Raas Ronnan’s older brother. He’s one spectacular male but is blinded by anger and need for vengeance. Nevertheless, Vex is fiercely protective, confident and stubborn. And he’s also dangerous, dominant, menacing and quite bossy. But there's also a caring and honorable side of him, too, which I loved so much. The Prince of Selk is quite the complex male and I couldn’t help but adore every single thing about the smoking-hot and utterly irresistible warrior!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Aubrey and Vex! Vex is driven by the need to find the Vandar and make sure his brother never has any claim on the throne of Selk. In order to do that, he buys Aubrey’s debt and is planning to use her as a guide through the galaxy. From the moment those two met, their attraction was undeniable and their chemistry was fantastic. But both have had their share of painful pasts and were quite stubborn to act upon their feelings. Nevertheless, I adored those two together! I loved their banters and teasing. Despite not quite trusting each other and Vex’s sense of duty, they couldn’t resist the undeniable need for one another and the passionate moments they shared were sizzling hot. What can I say… the Selkee are full of surprises! 😏 Vex and Aubrey were absolutely perfect for each other and I couldn’t get enough of either of them!
In addition, the storyline was spectacular! I loved that we got to learn more about the Selkee and I loved Henli so much - he was so kind, caring and supportive of Aubrey. Even more, we got the chance to go on quite the journey through the galaxy in search of the Vandar hordes. And things with Ronnan might not be what Vex expects at all. But there is also a dangerous, vicious and determined alien after Aubrey. With everything happening, I was glued to the pages till the very end, excited to see how things will resolve.
Overall, the story is another incredible addition to the series! It’s filled with suspense, danger, action, twists, drama, adventure, humor, blazing hot passion and fantastic characters.
I couldn’t put it down and absolutely loved every page of it!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Prince is a fast-paced, steamy sci-fi romance that blends revenge, reluctant partnership, and unexpected tenderness against a backdrop of interstellar danger. Tana Stone delivers another swoon-worthy alien warrior in this installment of the Raider Warlords of the Vandar series, but what sets this one apart is the slow-burning emotional connection and the heroine’s spark of resilience.
The story kicks off with a bang—our heroine is a club singer hiding from her past when Prince Vektal buys out her debt, launching her into a high-stakes mission fueled by his quest for revenge. While the setup leans into familiar territory (alien abduction-turned-protection), the chemistry between them simmers right from the start. Vektal is possessive, intense, and fiercely loyal, but there's a surprising gentleness beneath his ruthless exterior that starts to surface as the two draw closer. Their dynamic walks the line between push and pull, and watching her challenge his sense of control made the romance especially satisfying.
The writing is snappy and vivid, with just enough world-building to immerse you in the Vandar universe without slowing down the pace. The action scenes—especially the space battles—are high-energy and well-placed, but it’s the quieter moments that give Prince its emotional weight. There’s an undercurrent of vulnerability, both in the heroine’s struggle to reclaim her autonomy and in Vektal’s journey to let go of vengeance in favor of something deeper.
Though it’s the tenth book in the series, Prince can absolutely be read as a standalone. It's a delicious mix of heat, danger, and devotion—with just the right touch of heart. If brooding alien royalty and high-stakes passion are your thing, this one delivers in full.
All the excitement, the feels, and the swoons
I loved Aubrey and Vex’s fated mates, alien-human, enemies to lovers, revenge romance with a side of crazy stalker. Aubrey and Vex are both little rough around the edges and a little wounded by their pasts. Their wounded souls just need a little healing with a little gentle but all consuming love after they’ve spent large parts of their lives overcoming obstacles and staying strong. Aubrey is a human and a singer. She sings in the outer edges of the galaxy in a seedy bar to pay off the debt her mother owed before her death. She basically grew up in the bar and does not believe she will ever get to leave. Vex is the Prince of Selk. He has left his home planet to track down his Vandar half-brother Ronnan (Prodigal, book 7 in the series) to make sure he never returns to the planet Selk. When he hears Aubrey sing he decides she will be his guide so he pays off her debt. Aubrey’s friend/surrogate mother/father Henli goes with her. Thus begins the tumultuous and exciting journey to Aubrey and Vex’s HEA. Despite Aubrey being purchased, this is not a dubcon or noncon situation. Their relationship develops organically without forced intimacy. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline as told through fighting, dangerous situations, alien physiology and cultures, loyal friends, painful pasts, drama, snark, plot twists, evil actors, missteps, and laughs. I will definitely keep reading this series. I guess Selkee princes are no more of a match for human females than the Vandar are.
Best Book in the Series Yet!
There was so much that I loved about this book that I'm not even sure where to start! The spice and chemistry between Prince Vex and Aubrey was seriously off the charts! While they both fought their attraction a little bit, it's like magnets kept pulling them back together. Aubrey was a little bit of an enigma the first part of the book and the more that was revealed, the better her character was understood. Whereas Vex just felt like a morally grey character at times. I think I got these vibes mainly from his dangerous selke factor and how dominant of a male he was. Which honestly, I was digging it!
I also really liked the side characters as well as guest appearances in this book and thought that they were a really nice touch. Henli was just downright loveable. I mean, he was so supportive of Aubrey and I just loved his overzealous organizing skills! I also really liked Vex's second in command, Kzan. Honestly, I wouldn't mind a book with him as the main focus. He just seems like an interesting character.
My only complaint is that I wish there were more scenes between Vex and Aubrey (more emotional connections) leading up to spice and/or more spice. Honestly, this book did have a very well thought out plot and was well rounded with a happy ending. I just thought that verses Aubrey running away at times, there could have been moments of vulnerability to build their connection a little more. That's honestly just my opinion though, it really doesn't detract from the book whatsoever as it's still a solid 5 star read. Overall, I definitely recommend it!
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Prince is a standalone sci-fi romance book that features a story about an alien prince and a human singer.
Vex, the prince of Selk, is looking for revenge and he needs a guide in his journey through this new galaxy in order to achieve his revenge. So when he finds Aubrey, a cantina singer who is working to pay off her mother's debt, he pays off her debt and brings her on as a guide.
Quickly, he realizes that he is attracted to Aubrey but knows he isn't able to be with someone who isn't Selk. The chemistry between him and Aubrey is palpable. Even though they try to deny it to themselves, others around them can easily see it.
The sci-fi elements were fun and it makes me want to go back to read the rest of the books in this series. I liked the development of Vex and Aubrey's relationships and the banter they have. The secondary characters also added a lot to the story.
Simply wonderful read with great scenario and characters that are simply amazing
This is a simply wonderful read that I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of and I have to say that the alien prince with amazing platinum hair is simply a wonderful person to read about and he is simply taking me from travelling in his space ship that is travelling the galaxy.
The prince promises that he will ensure that he protects me as he is plucks me from my galaxy and then he takes her and now she has the possibility of being taken somewhere extremely dangerous where there is every chance she may never be seen again.
The prince has promised that he will keep me safe no matter what and as the possibility of him exchanging me into obscurity is something that she believes is impossible to believe and now it is apparent that the prince has feelings that need to be expressed.
If you like dominant alien warriors and abduction to seduction romance, you’ll be blown away by this simply amazing read, I guarantee that once you begin you will n ot put this book down until you reach the end.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
Prince Vex of Selke
In this edition of the series, Prince Vex of Selke has captained a crew and travelled across sectors of the Universe in order to find his half brother to either swear his fealty to Vex, or be exiled along with the other half Selke/Vandar men that left with him. Aubrey is a singer in a seedy cantina on the outskirts of a sector, paying off a debt her mother accrued when they had fled to the planet years ago.
This is a classic case of instantly having a strong connection with someone yet making the worst mistakes in an effort to not acknowledge it! Lol Vex essentially “buys” Aubrey by paying off her debt plus some under the guise of being a guide through the sectors territories. And even though we all know the HEA at the end of the rainbow of this story, getting there can be just as fun.
There was a lot of supporting character involvement within the story, which is something I actually like and Tana Stone does a terrific job of. But with that being said, I would’ve liked to have seen more development between the two main characters. Even with the minimal spice scenes, there wasn’t an abundance of “one on one time” between Vex and Aubrey. There wasn’t a doubt of the intensity of the scenes, but but it was missing that touch of intimate communication that had barely skimmed the surface compared to her other books.
I thoroughly enjoy reading sci-fi romance books, and this one was fantastic! Vex and Aubrey were so good together. Vex is searching the galaxies for his half brother, but he’s so blinded by anger that he’s searching for him out of misplaced vengeance. Aubrey is a singer in a sleazy rundown cantina where she’s been hiding for most of her life from an alien that was obsessed with her mother. In his search for his brother, Vex stumbles upon this cantina where he becomes ensnared by Aubrey’s voice and knows that she belongs to him. He appoints her as his “tour guide” through the galaxies and to all of the places that his brother may be hiding. She simply wants to be free to live her without fear of being found by the crazy alien that used to hunt her mother. What ensues is a battle of wills between these two, and both of them learning that love can be found in the most unlikely of places. Aubrey balanced out Vex’s grumpy demeanor and helped him feel something more than just hate and vengeance. While he made her heart feel safe for the first time since she was a child. This book has aliens, human women, good guys and bad guys. Vex is over the top protective and possessive, and Aubrey is sassy and kind. I definitely recommend this book!
Prince: Raider Warlords of the Vandar book 10 by Tana Stone is a keeper. Prince Vex of the Selkee people is on a quest to find Ronnan, his half brother, in order to obtain his acknowledgment that he has no claim to Vex’s inherited throne. There’s a controlled darkness (hinted at) of the Selkee prince and bad blood instilled between the brothers thanks to their father. Vex is unaware that Ronnan has no desire to battle him for the right to rule their homeland. He seizes the chance to find Ronnan by buying up the debt of a human woman (Aubrey) whom he has heard has traveled the universe. Little does he know that Aubrey’s journeys are the result of her running for her freedom from a dangerous slaver who owned her mother. As they fly to various ports, the arrogant Vex tolerates Aubrey and is definitely not looking for a mate to love, which makes the narrative all the more enjoyable when he falls hard for her. Along the way, the prince learns much about human women, blended families, and loyal friends; this tale documents his coming-to-love journey as well as his place among the dynamics of it all. What a sweet read, entertaining story, and interesting characters!
Vex is on a self-imposed mission to track down his half brother. There is no love lost between them as Ronnan’s father had indoctrinated him into believing that his Vandar heritage was superior to Vex’s Selkee one. Vex is the heir apparent of Selk and wants to insure that Ronnan will not attempt to return and interfere with his reign.
He visits different planets and encounters Aubrey singing in a run down cantina. He feels an irrational attraction and pays off her debt to the bar owner so she can accompany him and his crew, using the excuse she can act as a guide. Her pianist and close friend tags along.
Vex and Aubrey eventually succumb to their mutual interest in one another with the expected result.
When Vex finally meets up with his brother he finds him a changed man. Not only that but he has a human mate and Vex realizes that there’s really nothing standing in his way to keep him from spending his life with Aubrey. There is a frightening encounter with the alien who had chased Aubrey and her mother all over the galaxy.
It turns out Aubrey and Sloane, Ronnan’s mate, have more in common than just being humans.
Aubrey and Prince Vex
A bit too quick and easy for the perfect finish to the series, but a very HEA for all our alien men... Selk, Vandar, and Selk-Vandar crosses.
Female humans appear to be the magic solution to every alien Warlord's struggles. These women are the complimentary matches every Warrior needs in the end. And these aliens are men of honor. The empire is still out there, the mercenaries are still out there... but the alliances between the warriors of every resistance continue to grow.
The prince of the Selk is half brother to Raas Ronnan... and there are very bad feelings between Vex and Ronnan. They share a mother, and a life with Ronnan's father... the Exiled Vandar was hard on all the males on Selk, and getting over the wounds brought on by Vex's step father will not be easy. But Vex has to find Ronnan before he can draw any line in the sand. And the beautiful and unforgettable lounge singer, Aubrey, is going to assist Vex. Maybe.
Yet another very easy and quick read. We find a few issues too easily and quickly resolved in this book, and yet we still wouldn't mind more to come.
A great Sci-Fi romance with a touch of suspense and a good dose of smexy encounters in Prince, the latest book in the Raider Warlords of the Vandar series as the brooding alien Prince Vex, a man on a mission to hunt down his half brother basically buys Aubrey, a feisty human singer hiding out in a nightclub so she’ll act as his guide and aid in tracking him.
This book was a great way to spend a rainy afternoon. With a fantastic hero and heroine with great chemistry and a good overall story as well as a subplot involving just why Aubrey was hiding that allowed the dominant Vex to show his protective side. I also enjoyed the character development as Vex started out with the sole intention of using Aubrey while she had no reason to trust him until he proved himself. This book wasn’t my usual kind of read but something about the blurb for Prince made me decide to give this one a go and I’ve not been disappointed. With great characters and strong storylines I’ll definitely be looking at the previous books in this series
This was a sci-fi alien warrior romance.
I liked the different take on the main character being a grey hat. The story was a page turner. Would recommend!
Aubrey is a singer in a cantina.
Vex is the Prince of the Selkee. He is looking for his half brother Ronnan.
They meet in the cantina where Aubrey sings and he is immediately captivated by her. He pays the owner double her debt and buys her. Her Nexxelian accompanist Henli insists on coming with her. He is a father figure who has always looked after her. Vex uses the excuse of wanting her to be his tour guide for this galaxy to help him find the Lost Vandar. They travel to several planets where she had seen Vandar. His ship is boarded by raiders while he is on one of the planets and they unalive or drive them off. A Gorlik slaver named Qelvek who was obsessed with Aubrey's mother and chased them across the galaxy hides on the ship planning to kidnap her. When he realizes she is not her mother he decided to unalive her. Vex races to find her and rescues her. They reveal their feelings and get their HEA.
Ya’ll know I love me some Ronnan, well this is his brother’s book…yup…taking him too, because I am a selfish hero hoarder….and I read them first. Sexy af Alpha brothers…in kilts…I knew you’d be into them…you’re welcome. Anyway, Vex is looking for his brother…to stir up trouble…I know, I know….welcome to the sh*t show. On his search he ends up finding the enticing songbird, Aubrey, and isn’t going to leave without her, because everyone needs a tour guide that looks like a bombshell, and sings like an angel.
Safe read, a scorching couple with sexy af chemistry. Great storyline, with a little action suspense. We got to see some of our favorites from previous books and series, and gained some new favorites including her bestie Hen. Epilogue and a hea. More please, always want more, and I am loving this series.
Vex is the Prince of Selk who is currently on a revenge quest to find his half Vandar brother Ronnan and needs someone who has traveled and knows the outskirts of the galaxy he and his crew are currently in as a guide. Entering a seedy bar he catches a glimpse of lounge singer Aubrey on stage and his heart takes a powerful hit. When he learns more about her circumstances Vex knows he’s found his guide or so he tells himself.
Prince for me was a winning read and the Selkie’s can definitely give those Vandar males a run for the money in the HOT department.
The story was also an expertly written tour de force of adventure, romance, personal vulnerabilities, heart tugging moments, captivating side characters, ( I mean you Henli) that all together delivered a most captivating read.
Prince is the tenth book in the fantastic Raider Warlords of the Vandar series by Tana Stone.
Raider Warlords of Vandar Series by Tana Stone is another fantastic sci-fi romance series – with an ‘abduction and seduction’ theme that runs through the collection.
With Alien Warlords, resistance fighters, space battles, action, adventure, captives, war, alpha males, tension, intrigue, emotion, drama, and danger- while the vivid world-building made this series all the more enjoyable.
Each book could be read as a standalone, but there is a ‘bigger picture’ being painted in the background, therefore, I really recommend reading the entire series (in sequence) so you don’t miss any of the important interconnected details, which will elevate you whole reading experience.
Looking forward to more from Ms. Stone…
Happy Reading…
Thank you, Tana Stone!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book about Aubrey and Vex. Vex is busy trying to find his brother and the other Vandar raiders who were born half Selkie and Vandar to have them recognise him as the Prince of the Selkie and to abandon any claim on his planet. But he did not factor in Aubrey and the power she would have over him. When Vex buys her debt and takes her across the galaxy, they don’t realise the dangers they will face and a love that will lead to a happily ever after and a stronger bond with his half brother.
I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and I am reviewing with my honest and fair opinion.
I just love the Warlords!! Prince Vex is looking for his brother to stir up trouble and “buys/hires” Aubrey to be his tour guide. Aubrey sings like an angel and looks like a bombshell, what more could you ask for? As they travel from port to port looking for Ronnan Vex is falling hard for Aubrey. He is not looking for a mate so that’s what makes it all the more enjoyable. Aubrey balances out Vex’s need for vengeance and teaches him how to love. Vex offers Aubrey safety and not having to look over her shoulder for the alien that was obsessed with her mother. I love the series and I cannot wait for it to continue!!!
Killing me softly with it boring as fudge writing. Vex is racist. I'm 40% into the book and have no idea why he hates them so much. He was jealous of them and they weren't the nicest but that's all I know. So cry me a river that you didn't like step daddy and step siblings, get over it. Then he picks this girl to be his guide that hasn't been off this small, insignificant planet in forever to be his guide. He never asks questions to the her friend just her. Which is stupid. He's counting on her memory from when she was "hiding behind her mothers skirts"??? That's where he is putting the future of his planet? There is no chemistry, no desire. It's bland and boring
I read this since it is book 10 in a series I've followed from the beginning. Quick read -very light, very superficial, very formulaic of this series. I found Vex to be a little immature in the beginning and hot-headed bordering on tantrum-prone. I enjoyed the heroine Aubrey and her friendship with Hen. I felt they gave more depth to that relationship than to the one between Aubrey and Vex, who were basically thrown together by the author due to Vex's overwhelming need to take her with him when he first saw her singing in a run-down club. Overall entertaining enough and I did like this one better than the last three.
A Good Fun Series
Vex, prince of Selk, is searching the galaxy for his half-brother Ronnan. Ronnan had left Selk with the Kyrie Vandar without so much as a by your leave. This vexxed Vex.
Vex and his second in command come to a backwater planet where they discover Aubrey singing in a seedy club. Vex is told that Aubrey can show them where the Vandar can be found.
In the meantime, Aubrey is concerned that the bounty hunter will find her now that she is revisiting places from her past.
This was a nice story. I liked that there were changes of scenery with the different planets.
I would have loved to see Selk. Maybe in an upcoming book.
What an incredible read. Aubrey and Vex certainly had their work cut out, but like all our previous warrior hero's, when they fall, they fall hard, and Vex was no exception.
I loved the chase, the denial, the heart-pounding desire and lust. A volcano just waiting to erupt.
Elements of sadness when memories resurface. The fear of moving on just breaks your heart.
Of course, our adorable sidekick Hen added to this delightful story. His slight OCD was quirky, but his heart is definitely in the right place.
Such amazing characters and an incredible adventure across the galaxy.
Aubry and Prince Vex
Raas Ronnan's Selkee half brother Vex is on a mission to find the Kyrie Vandar and have them pledge fealty to Selk and banish them. He finds Aubry, a sultry lounge singer, and buys her freedom so that she can can be a guide in this sector. Of course there is more to it than that. They can't stop their attraction to each other. There is action and adventure as well as steam. Who can resist a man in a battle kilt. I wish the book was longer and they had more interactions. It went really fast.
I am all for the Vandar warriors, so when the Selkee Prince is introduced here I was thrown for a loop. The universe built by this author is full of seriously hot warriors. I love that this book feels like your part of a universe filled with so many adventures waiting to be told. The Selkee Prince Vex was a brooding hero and no stranger to the Vander. Meeting Aubrey really changed things for Vex and made for a very interesting and entertaining story. I hope this means we get to see more Selkee warriors.
vex is angry and jealous of his half brother and wants vengence for being mistreated by his father. he's also the prince of selk so he's dominant, bossy, used to getting his own way. Aubrey is a survivor having lived a life on the run with her mother who was hunted by an alien. She has lost her mom but has Henli a loving friend and together they have made somewhat of a life. She is resilient, strong, feisty, caring and more. when vex buys her debt and takes her on his ship without her consent aubrey isn't sure how to deal with it but she isn't going to just put up with vex bossing her around and expecting anything more for his money then her as a guide. however, feelings are developing and after vex protects her she sees he has a softer side and isn't all she first thought. but they can never be together as he must marry a pure blood selk as prince and he's on a mission of vengence against his brother which she can't understand having lost her only family. plus she's on the run from the alien who hunted her mother so doesn't feel safe. then guiding vex around different planets has a bad outcome and aubrey is in danger. vex finds the half brother he's been searching for. now both must come to terms with their future, their present and make some hard decisions on their final destiny.
characters are well and richly developed as is the world building on and off the ship. I would have liked to seen more description of the darkness that the selkie fight in their nature but perhaps that will come in another book with another selk character. Henli was a wonderful side character and I loved how much he was present in this book. I really enjoyed the conflict and come together of vex and aubrey and the back and forth between them. Hopefully we will see more of the selk and also more interaction with the vandar the half siblings of the selkie in future as they all find their fated endings.
I received an arc copy and this is my honest voluntary review.
