She made this contract to avoid breaking his heart, but will keeping it mean breaking hers?
Ruby Hayes is happy as a single lawyer, but if she can count on anything, it's that her family and friends' incessant meddling will be center-stage when she shows up single (again) for the holidays. Rather than endure one more blind date or suffocating set-up, Ruby hatches a plan.
Levi Thompson has accepted the bachelor lifestyle since Ruby left him behind years ago, but his friends and family are determined to see him settled down. Levi has no intentions of succumbing to their well-meaning pressure, so it seems like a win-win to agree to Ruby's proposal, even when she shows up with a crazy formal contract typed and ready for his signature.
As they navigate the Christmas season together, their charade begins to feel increasingly real during horse drawn sleigh rides and cozy fireside conversations.
With the looming deadline of both Christmas and the contract, Ruby and Levi must confront the daunting choice between keeping their ends of the Christmas Contract, or surrendering to the undeniable pull of their hearts.
Visit Redemption Ridge, Colorado and enjoy the faith, friendships, and forever-afters of the Christmas in Redemption Ridge series of Christian romance.
This series is a spin-off continuation of the best-selling Heroes of Freedom Ridge Series with all new characters and traditions, but the same magic of community and romance readers love.
I was cheering for Ruby and Levi from the very beginning. I love a second chance romance, and these two just needed to make their way back to each other. I always love Hannah's books, and this one was another good Christian romance from her.
Ruby always had big dreams for herself and her career. She left her small hometown to go to law school, which meant leaving her high school sweetheart Levi behind and letting them drift apart. Now she's back, running her own law office and happily committed to her work.
But her family won't let up on trying to set her up with various eligible bachelors in town. Sick of the pressure, she applies her attorney's skills to this problem and draws up a Christmas contract that would allow her to maintain a fake relationship through the holiday season, keep her family off her back, and return to her singlehood after the New Year.
And she even has the perfect guy to pitch this contract to - Levi. She knows she can tolerate his company, and her family would totally believe them together. Levi agrees, thrilled at the prospect of spending the holidays with Ruby's loving family and perhaps getting another chance with his first and only love.
Sure that the "no falling in love" clause in the contract is enough to protect them both, Ruby gets Levi involved in her plan and they pretend to be a happy couple all through the Christmas season. But despite that supposedly ironclad bit about not developing real feelings, Ruby is feeling more and more like she wants to amend their Christmas contract...
💕THE ROMANCE💕
Ruby and Levi are both grown adults with established careers. They both identify heavily with their independence and singlehood, and try to stay focused on the reality of the contract and the lives they'll be returning to after its terms are up.
Most of the tension in the relationship is internal, with each character telling themselves not to get too attached and trying to convince themselves that the romance isn't going to, or shouldn't, actually happen.
But deep down, both of them truly love one another. The fact that they never had a real breakup is an interesting element of this romance, making the whole "second chance" trope extra significant.
🎄CHRISTMAS🎄
Ruby's contract has the two of them actually engaging in various Christmas traditions together, from a horse drawn sleigh ride to a cookie decorating competition at the local church.
A major element of Levi's characterization is his sad backstory of growing up without a warm and loving family, so the way he's embraced by Ruby's family during their get togethers is a sweet twist on the 'instant family' trope.
✝️FAITH ELEMENTS✝️
Both characters pray and attend church services together - we see specifics from the church sermons and prayers. Levi is drawn deeper into the world of church and faith via his connections to Ruby and her churchgoing family.
📝MY THOUGHTS📝
I thought this was a really fun fake dating Christmas romance! I loved the fact that Levi is a working rancher who has committed his career to horses, and we see actual details of his work. Ruby's job as a lawyer is also obviously relevant to the plot, as is the way her focus on her career impacted her ability to have romantic relationships. I like romances about older characters with mature worldviews and established careers.
I wasn't so sure about the gender dynamics of Ruby feeling like her only options were to be career driven or in love - the implication is that a relationship with a man is too distracting for a woman. This is even supported at one point by the narrative. But in the end, Ruby learns that this was a false dichotomy, and that she can have a supportive partner who builds her up as a focused and accomplished attorney.

Review: This second chance love story is just so sweet. Levi is just so sweet to Ruby. And because the people around them feels that they ought to have a life partner in their lives Ruby came out with a Christmas contract which is him and her being fake boyfriend and girlfriend to just let everyone to get out of their hair and he reluctantly agreed but to him it might be a fake relationship but his feelings towards her are real. And love their sleigh ride together and they talk about their memories of the past together. And love that her granny made her realised that she can have both love and career at the same time. And Levi sees the best in her too. And also, her family’s kindness and love make him felt belong them. This story made me smile, laugh, swoon and also the warmth of a family. Love that this story talks about the true meaning of Christmas too.
This is the 3rd book of the Christmas in Redemption Ridge Season 1 series. It is a series that is written by a few authors. Can’t wait to read the rest of the books in the series. You can purchase this book on Amazon and it’s available on KU.
Amending The Christmas Contract is a unusual second chance at love. When Ruby and Levi were in high school nothing could come between them. When she left for college and Levi stayed to work on Redemption Ranch, Ruby decided she couldn't do her schooling to become a lawyer and be the girlfriend Levi deserved. Now years later Ruby has moved back to her small hometown and opened a law office. Now everyone is trying to set her up with guys since she has returned to her hometown. So she comes up with the idea to get Levi to agree to date her for the holidays so neither have to worry about blind dates. She writes up a contract to that effect and after the first of the year they were to go their separate ways.
All was going better than anticipated as Levi was in love with Ruby since high school. Each event they went to just drew them closer together. And the town has now started the rumors again about them being back together. Until Ruby goes back to work and has irritated voicemails from a client she forgot to send paperwork to. So instead of just sending it and going on with life, she blames Levi for distracting her and she decided they needed to stop dating before the end of the contract. But, a visit to Granny tells her all she needed to know.
Ruby has always wanted to be a lawyer. She goes off to college after high school and never looks back. However, when she gets her law degree, she knows that she wants to go back to her small hometown and family. She is content in her life, but her family is always setting her up on blind dates. To get around this and enjoy the Christmas season, she comes up with a plan to have a fake boyfriend. She can enjoy the holidays without having a new man pushed on her at every event by well-meaning friends and family. The only person that her family would believe she is in a relationship with his her high school boyfriend, Levi.
Levi didn't have a lot of family. After high school, he went to work at Redemption Ranch. He loves his job and the horses. He's content being single because no one can measure up to Ruby in his mind. When she asks him to pretend to be her boyfriend through Christmas, he agrees. He's tired of his friends always setting him up as well.
As Levi and Ruby spend time together, old feelings re-surface. But, not falling in love was in the contract. Such a cute, sweet story.
This is such a sweet and fun book that incorporates tropes of a second chance romance with a fake relationship. Ruby and Levi had been high school sweethearts who drifted apart when Ruby left for college. Ruby returns home to begin her career so she would be near her family but they tend to set her up with numerous blind dates. Levi remained to continue his work with horses on Redemption Ranch after graduating. His friends insist on setting him up with blind dates as well. Ruby comes up with the plan to fake date over the Christmas holidays and being an attorney, she draws up an NDA as well as a contract stating they are not to fall in love. After considering Ruby’s proposal to fake the relationship, Levi agrees. Neither of them planned on their old feelings resurfacing. Will they be able to fake date a month without their hearts getting involved?
Ruby and Levi had been high school sweethearts. When Ruby left to go to college, they just drifted apart. Now, Ruby is a successful lawyer and has moved back home to Redemption Ridge. She is tired of the endless attempts to set her up on numerous blind dates so she contacts Levi and asks for his help. She writes up a legal contract where they agree to be each other's fake romantic interest for the Christmas holidays to successfully navigate around the well-intended attempts of family and friends to set them up with other people. But, when the time they spend together begins to seem more real than fake, will they both be willing to tear up their Christmas contract and let love win?
This is a sweet story about second chances. I absolutely love Levi's character and his genuine personality.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
Loved Levi and Ruby's story! Levi and Ruby were high school sweethearts. Levi has always dreamed of having a family with Ruby. When she left for college, he supported her decision to go after her dreams, he just didn't think she'd leave him behind. Now, Ruby's home again, and has opened her law firm. She reaches out to Levi as a way to keep her family from setting her up on blind dates throughout Christmas. Ruby's still not sure she can have the best of both worlds, and she's made sure her time with Levi won't become permanent. At least, she doesn't think so. But her heart may just overrule her head!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
I had an ARC for this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Lawyer, Ruby Hayes is tired of her family setting her up with dates for the holiday so she creates a contract with her former boyfriend, cowboy, Levi Thompson who is tired of his friends setting him up with dates. He agrees to them pretending to be a couple until after the Christmas holiday. As they attend Christmas activities together, they reignite feelings they had when they were younger, but Ruby is resistant to the match as she thinks it will take away from her work. A touching Christmas story I highly recommend reading.
Great addition to the series this one by Hannah Jo Abbott. Ruby is a wonderful lawyer and happy in her home town, but her family isn’t satisfied. They won’t be until she is married with a family. Levi is happy being single while he works at the dude ranch, but all his friends keep trying to set him up with women. Ruby comes up with the idea to have a “Christmas Contract” that they will date for the holiday season and then break up after the new year. Everyone should believe them being together since they dated in high school. Will this solve all their problems or bring new ones? *I received this book as an ARC reader and am leaving my unbiased review.
Great second chance Christmas story. Levi and Ruby are wonderful characters that keep you rooting for their HEA. They were high school sweethearts, but Ruby needed to be focused on school and her ambitions to become a successful lawyer. Years later they are both fed up with everyone trying to set up blind dates for them, hence the Christmas Contract. I really enjoyed reading this book with all the Christmas activities. I received a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary, honest review.
This was another beautiful story in this series. I really liked that Ruby and Levi had been high school sweethearts and were given a second chance at love in this book. The marriage contract was quite interesting and I enjoyed reading about what that would entail and the added amendments. The fun Christmas activities made the book extra special to read. This book also focused on family, faith, and the true meaning of Christmas which I really enjoyed. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Can a fake relationship be the second chance Ruby and Jace can’t miss? They were High School sweethearts and best friends. But when she went to college her focus was her career and she left Jace behind. She is back in Redemption Ridge and needs a date for the Christmas holidays. The contract between them is very clear, they part ways the 3rd day of January but can they after rekindling their feelings? Sweet.
Ruby hates all the matchmaking, and not having someone to attend Christmas events with so decides that she will ask her high school ex Levi to enter a fake relationship with her as he is sick of matchmakers too. To keep things clear, and being a lawyer, she writes up a contract with a definite end date. Levi is uncertain and would like a real relationship, needless to say things don't go as planned and feelings get involved! I received an ARC but this review is my own.
I definitely have a family and home in both Freedom and Redemption Ridge; it's been wonderful to go back and see old friends and meet new ones. I met Levi in Marrying the Rancher's Daughter and Ruby and her family in this one. I thoroughly enjoyed their love's journey, and I appreciated the pastor's Christmas sermon and seeing how John 3:16 is also a part of Christmas, though we typically think of it as more part of the Ressurection.
A sweet, second chance romance. Ruby and Levi were childhood sweethearts until she left to go away to school to become a lawyer. Levi stayed in Redemption Ridge and became the cowboy he wants to be. She comes back home to start her practice but can they reignite their attraction? I enjoyed the sweet story, the loving family and supportive friends. Wonderful story.
A heartwarming story about a couple, Ruby and Levi, having a second chance at a relationship. With the holidays fast approaching they are both tired of being set up on blind dates by friends and family. They have agreed to spend time together in order to appease everyone. The plan backfires though and their past relationship is rekindled.
Amending the Christmas Contract is a clean, heartwarming, second chance romance for Ruby and Levi who sign a contract to be together to avoid holiday blind dates. I enjoyed watching these two reconnect. Ruby had some trouble getting out of her own way but eventually they got their HEA. I spent a lovely evening with this well written book!
Ruby writes a romance contract for her ex Levi and herself so they can avoid the blind dates over the holidays. Fake dating, it never works but Ruby and Levi have matured and have a better understanding of how relationships work. I liked how surprised they both were by how easy it was to be together again and maybe rediscover love.
A long time coming for something meant to be. Levi knew when they graduated Ruby was the one and when she eased him out of her life, he had np choice but to move on. Ruby thought she had the perfect contract but soon learns contracts aren't always binding. Enjoyed how MS Abbott wove her story of the cost likely unlikely romance.
Amending the Christmas Contract is the third book in the Christmas in Redemption Ridge series. Abbot’s written a beautiful second chance romantic suspense story with flawed characters that grow as they face their fears and struggles from the past. I really enjoyed the characters and the storyline and the way their broken past is redeemed.
Unless you’re very new to romance novels, you know when you see it that the portion of Ruby and Levi’s contract stating “we agree not to develop any kind of true romantic feelings for each other” will not hold up. In fact, it is too late as far as Levi’s feelings go and if truth be known, Ruby’s also. Hannah Jo Abbott has again given us a story with humor, romance and a few surprises. I enjoyed visiting Redemption Ridge again and looking forward to more stories from this author.
What a lovely sweet romance. I loved Levi and Ruby's second chance romance that starts out fake to prevent friends and family setting each of them up on blind dates for the holiday festivities.
I must admit that Ruby got on my last nerve. Her need to control and lack of understanding how her decisions hurt Levi was so annoying. Everyone needs a man like Levi. He is a hero in every sense of the word.
I found this one interesting because there is a Christmas contract involved which adds some humor and romance. I admit it is a great way to enjoy the holidays because it takes all the pressure off of being set up. Enjoyed the story and characters. Great addition to the series.
I couldn't stop reading Levi and Ruby's story. Family is important and that was definitely brought out in this book. Levi's growing up years was a sad time for him, but God had plans for Levi to experience the true love of a family.
I am an ARC team member. I love to read Hannah Jo’s books. They are good, clean, wholesome honest stories. Ruby and Levi are given a second chance at love. Read this beautiful Christian romance. Very easy to read and it goes by fast. Yes I highly recommend this book.
