Miles It's been six years since I've seen her. It's been eight years since the night that changed everything. I decided that I was done. Done with the distance. Done pretending like I wasn't interested in being more with my best friend's sister. Even if I have to go behind my best friend's back. I'm coming home.
Rylee It's been six years since I've seen him, my best friend, or at least I thought we were. Until that one night eight years ago. Why Miles is returning home after all these years is beyond me. But what's even better? He's on our baseball team for the Summer. Which means I can't avoid him, or the cracks he's building in my anger towards him. Filling it with desire, longing and more. The problem? He's my brother's best friend.
The flame that's been crackling between us all of these years is set to spark, but I don't know if I'm willing to get burned.
Hi! My name is Carlie Jean, a girl who loves to write new adult romances featuring protective males and strong heroines with a side of spice, tension, laughter, and a hefty dose of scenes that give readers butterflies.
When I’m not teaching little ones, you can find me cozied up at home, either writing or reading. And when I’m not being a couch potato, I enjoy walking my dog, playing volleyball and baseball, and traveling.
Thank you to the author for sending me a PR package with this book and goodies, I appreciate it beyond words.
Overall, this author has so much potential and i think she has a great future ahead with romances. This story was easy, flowed, and had great tropes.
Unfortunately this was not my cup of tea. There were things that did rub me the wrong way, like how many times the MMC mentioned the FMC legs, the setting of the story, and the dialogue.
But I do appreciate being sent the book to read and all the goodies, I feel absolutely so awful inside that I didn’t enjoy this as much as I thought I would.
It’s definitely your typical romance book. Miles is one of the better book boyfriends. He would go miles for Riles 🤣. It’s a baseball romance, I probably won’t read another baseball romance tho. I just don’t find baseball entertaining. I was bored when they was playing. I’ll stick to my hockey and basketball romances. A lot of spicy scenes of course. No break up.
dnf at 50%. i really tried to push through with this one but i genuinely have so many complaints. first off, they did not mend a single thing after he left, and next thing i know they’re kissing and fucking. okay. weird. i would not have forgiven him that quickly, and then she is basically flirting with him while simultaneously saying it’s just platonic??and that there’s nothing going on???? but she’s texting him all flirty????????
and dont even get me started on this mannn. he is possessive, annoying, immature, territorial, oh yeah did i say possessive? this girl is not a toy she is in fact a human with human thoughts, but oh she likes the territorial stuff because she’s surprised he even finds her attractive!! blah blah blah. i dont care anymore
Good Catch is a debut, contemporary romance! I really loved the covers and it grabbed my attention because it was a baseball romance. This ended up being okay, it did take me quite a while to get through and I had a hard time getting into it.
Miles, Rylee, and her brother grew up as childhood friends, but about 8 years ago we get hints that something went down between Miles and Rylee. Now they haven’t spoken or seen one another in 6 years but Miles is returning home!
I do love brother’s best friend, childhood friends to lovers type of set up. This one I had a hard time with the writing, the sentences are structured with a lot of telling and inner monologue, I would rather be shown things happening or get dialogue instead to move the story on. 🤷🏼♀️ I also sadly just never felt connected to the characters. I was also under the impression this had a professional baseball hero and that isn’t the case, the hero and heroine instead play coed softball on like a rec team together with their family/friends. Some moments that stood out: he nicknames her “Riles” (a mashup of their two names), her best friend is dating her brother, she’s a teacher.
Well this was really cute! Miles has had a thing for his best friends sister since they were teens. He moves away and comes back after years to realize his feelings haven't changed. She too has had a thing for him. I love a good second chance type romance. Add in the spice which honestly took me by surprise in the best way. I loved their relationship with eachother! Riles for the win!
Miles and Riley used to be very close until he basically ghosted her six years agowhen he left for college. But now he's coming back home for good. Miles is also Riley's brother's best friend.
This book was exactly what I needed at the time : a quick, fun read with almost no drama.
I love a good brother's best friend story and this one didn't disappoint and thought this one was different because it focuses on them being together instead of them getting together and I really liked Miles as a boyfriend.
I liked the baseball setting as well, it was a welcome change from hockey romances.
♡ Tropes: • Baseball romance • Childhood friends to lovers • Brother's best friend • Teammates • Forced proximity • Boy obsessed • Secret dating • Spicy • Dual POV (1st person)
♡ This debut novel was nothing but incredible. This book... Seriously, I couldn't ever find the right words to express how much I loved it. That was my first ever baseball romance, and I'm glad it was this one because now I'm obsessed with it! (But, on the other hand, it set my expectations sooo high!) I am sooo obsessed with it. Maybe not as much as Miles is with Rylee, but nearly!!! And Miles? He's the perfect boyfriend you could ever dream of. He takes care of her when she's hurt, he helps her bathe, washes her hair, and even wants to learn how to take care of her hair. And he wants to do this every day. swooning I'm so in love with Miles!!! I really, really loved reading this book! I screamed, giggled, I was so invested in this story that I just need to reread it (will I? Abso-fucking-lutely!!!!) Rylee and Miles are everything. They're so cute and in love with each other.
Overall, this book popped my baseball romance cherry, I'm obsessed with Miles (and everything Carlie writes, really) and you need to read this book. That's it. That's the most important thing you need to know!
⚠ Be sure to check the TW before reading this book. The topics discussed are not for everyone. Respect your boundaries if you think this book might trigger you. ⚠
♡ I would also like to thank the author and Greys PR for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book ♡
I was lucky enough to get the chance to beta read this book, which i freaking loved!!
Without giving too much away and because the book hasn’t launched yet, I’ll just say i rated this book 5 ⭐️ because:
- this book had the friends to enemies, brothers best friend, mixed with the childhood best friends trope style. It had all my favorite tropes rolled into one couple & i am obsessed!
- when it comes to a couple i love the witty sarcastic banter and this had tons of it. Even later in the book too which was a huge thing for me.
- not to mention i love the main girl character being a smartass, it’s my favorite & so relatable. Plus she has the perfect funny/sarcastic best friend too.
- what i loved the most about the main male character is he was written differently then most book characters which i loved. Yes he was possessive & there was steamy parts, but there was also compassionate/caring sides to him too which was so sweet, and made me really fall for him. Not to mention he had a filthy mouth which was a total turn on!! He his hands down one of my favorite book boyfriends 💖
i devoured this book, I honestly didn’t want this book to end and wanted soooo many more chapters of this couple. I loved it that much! Not to mention the shower scene & the lead up to it 🫠🤤, that’s all I’m going to say haha. I can’t wait to see what more this author comes out with.

This is a best friend’s sister/brother’s best friend romance.
Miles and Rylee had been friends before he hurt her and left for college. Now, six years later, he’s back and his feelings for Rylee are still there. He never acted on his feelings before because he didn’t want to cross the line with Ryan, Rylee’s brother and his best friend.
This was a cute read with not much drama. Rylee and Miles had so many similarities, and they really knew and understood each other. They BOTH played baseball and were both pretty good at it too.
Miles was so protective and obsessed with Rylee, yet he respected her wishes to not tell everyone until she could tell her brother. I liked how he was very resolute in his feelings for Rylee, and he refused to let any other woman think she had a chance with him.
Rylee was pretty cool. I mean, she played baseball, and I rarely see books where the FMC plays a male-dominated sport. Also, there was one instance where she stunned everyone with her statement, and I loved it.
I also loved how close-knit their friend group was. I will say that the epilogue seemed a bit rushed, but other than that I enjoyed this.
Rylee, Miles and Ryan were the best of friends, completely inseparable until one night changed everything. Miles and Rylee went from besties to strangers in an instant, with him moving over 1000 miles away and with no contact for 8 years, now he comes waltzing back into her life like nothing happened? Not on Rylee's watch. How will she cope with her old best friend trying to worm his way back into her life when the feelings she'd hope had gone are stronger than ever?
This book just made me happy, there was no major dramas and it was just about two friends who realised they were horribly in love with each other but too scared to do anything about it and risk losing their relationships with Ryan.
I loved how fiercely protective Miles was over Rylee, when she got hurt he immediately had her in his arms and wouldn't let her go, the rage he felt when another man made any form of move at her even when their relationship hadn't been truly defined, oh how I love a possessive boy (especially a cinnamon roll). But Rylee was equally jealous (Nick Jonas on the playlist was the perfect song for these two), listening to the girls talk about Miles and eventually blowing her lid in a style that reminded me of Will Smith at the Academy Awards was a peak moment. But they were also sickly sweet and I just loved them they were completely adorable.
Honestly, my biggest critique is that we didn't get a flashback to Miles' chats with the dogs at the shelter, I honestly think I could've had a whole book just on that.
This book was so much fun and I need everyone to go out and read it now. Growing up Miles and Rylee were best friends until he ditched her one day. He never gave her an explanation, he just left her and her brother. Now, he’s back and he wants to be with her.
I love that he Miles was best friends with both Rylee and Ryan when they were younger. It adds a very fun dynamic that I throughly enjoyed. Miles was obsessed with Rylee from the second he saw her again and I loved that so much. All he wanted to do was get her to see that he is the perfect man for her.
Everything about them was just so freaking cute. Rylee tried so hard to fight her feelings for him at first but it was so good to see her just let go. They are just so perfect for each other. Their first date was one of my favorite parts of the book. Miles and Rylee just get one another and I’m obsessed.
I really loved that Ava was there for them the whole time and supported their relationship. It was good for them to have someone there who understood them and loved them.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ POV: Dual Tropes: Brothers Best Friend Childhood friends x Strangers x Lovers Boy obsessed Secret dating Sports romance (baseball) Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Pet names used: sunshine, baby, hotshot, “good girl”
Overall: Looking for a second chance romance with golden retriever boy who has a dirty mouth? Look no further! Don’t let the cute book cover fool you, this was steamyyyyyy!
Thoroughly enjoyed this story between Miles & Rylee and the only thing I wish was different was for Rylee to be a little more confident in herself and not be so inexperienced (just not my jam) 🫣 but overall as really cute easy read!! Miles is definitely book boyfriend material 🤌
I believe this is Carlie’s first release and I cannot wait to read her future stuff!
Had the pleasure of receiving this as an arc copy from greys promotion, my opinions are my own.
Oh my goodness, I was not ready for this book! 🥵 "Good Catch" is a spicy brother's best friend baseball romance between lovable MCs Rylee and Miles.
Rylee is strong, sassy, and independent. She hates Tuesdays the most which I think is brilliant but that is also my least favorite day of the week. Miles is compassionate, sweet, and maybe a little too protective. And let me tell you, this man KNOWS how to feed a praise k!ink. 🔥
This book was fun and hot, and I would definitely recommend it! Author Carlie Jean has created a whole cast of awesome characters and the perfect blend of romance and spice. I cannot wait to read more from her.
I received an ARC and offered to write an honest, voluntary review.
We have Miles, who returns to his hometown after 6 years away. He left because he was in love with his best friend’s sister, Rylee. He’s back and has joined Rylee and Ryan’s Rec league baseball team ⚾️
Rylee is mad about his radio silence so she ignores him at first. However, Miles knows she’s the one for him and he is determined to make her his girl! I loved all of the forbidden moments and the relationship Miles and Rylee had. The spice was so good too! I’m impressed that Carlie Jean is going to be put on the map from this one!
Tropes: Best friend’s Brother Sports (baseball) Forbidden It’s always been you He Falls First
ARC Review⚾️ Thank you Greys Promo for a chance to review this💛
“Your soul, your heart, that smile, everything about you reminds me of what it feels like to come home after a long trip away.”
I absolutely adored this!!! Miles and Rylee are the cutest. This is the perfect brothers best friend forbidden romance. It is spicy🥵, we have a overprotective MMC, a group of friends who play baseball and made me feel like I was apart of their group☺️I was rooting for Miles and Rylee from the very beginning, and then when they finally get together it was perfect🫶🏼 That epilogue🥹💛💛💛💛
Good Catch by Carlie Jean is a best friends turned enemies-to-lovers contemporary romance. As far as I can tell, this is this author's debut novel, and I was so impressed with her writing style and storytelling. Great job!
Rylee and Miles grew up as best friends, along with Ryan, Rylee's brother. When Miles started having more than platonic feelings for her at 16 (when she was 14), he started distancing himself, since it was forbidden to be involved with your best guy friend's sibling. After high school, he leaves the town he grew up in and comes back 6 years later to an irate Rylee.
This story was well-written and kept me interested from beginning to end, and I will definitely be reading any other books this author writes. In the meantime, this one is definitely recommended!
I devoured this book, and I never wanted it to end!! It was fun, cute and spicy! I just loved it!!! I can’t believe this was Carlie Jean’s first book, it was just so good!!
Miles returns home after being away for 6 years. He left because he was falling in love with his best friend’s sister. Now that is he is back, Miles is very determined to win Rylee’s heart and make her his girl!
Rylee was such a relatable character! I just loved her! She was smart, independent, strong and sassy! Miles was EVERYTHING! Talk about a boy obsessed! He was so sweet and very protective of Rylee! 🥰 Miles and Rylee had undeniable chemistry! They gave me all the feels and the steam was off the charts! 🔥🥵🫠
I really enjoyed the baseball in this! I loved how their friendship group were part of a co-ed softball team! It was so much fun!
You all need to read this book!! Good Catch is a fantastic brother's best friend romance!
What to expect: 💛Childhood Friends to Lovers ⚾️Brother's Best Friend 💛Boy Obsessed ⚾️Secret Dating 💛Spicy ⚾️Teammates 💛Forced Proximity
This was my first book by Carlie Jean and I thought this book was super cute and fun. It was a quick easy read for me, I could not put down and read in one sitting.
This story follows Rylee and Miles. They were best friends (which also includes Rylee’s brother) until Miles realizes he has some serious feelings for his best friend’s sister. He ends up going away to college and has no contact with Rylee for 8 years. Of course when Miles comes back, all his feelings come back too.
This book just made me happy, there was no major dramas and it was just about two friends who realized they were horribly in love with each other but too scared to do anything about it and risk losing their relationships with Ryan.
Miles was so protective over Rylee, when she got hurt he immediately had her in his arms and wouldn't let her go, I just ate that up! I just love reading about a possessive/jealous man that is also a total cinnamon roll. Everything about them was just so freaking cute.
Thank you to Greys Promotions for sending me an eARC in exchange for a honest review.
Tropes: Brothers Best Friend Childhood friends x Strangers x Lovers Boy obsessed Secret dating Sports romance (baseball)
This book was sooo good! The relationship between Rylee and Miles was so pure and cute. The sports aspect was fun, and the whole friend group I grew attached to.
The jealousy scenes??? UGH. He's possessive/protective and I am hereeeee for it 🥺❤️
The spice???? HOLY well... it's not holy but you get the point. 👀🥵
Overall, this was a great, easy read for the Summer and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Where do I start? Brother's best friend, friends to lovers, sports romance, mutual pining, spice- have got your attention, yet?! The swooning that this book had me feeling, I’m surprised that I’m not a mush of my own feelings!
I’m a sucker for the brother’s best friend trope, and let me tell you, this didn’t disappoint! 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 is such an easy read and with loveable characters. Talking about characters; Miles “filthy mouthed” Anderson will be living in my head rent free, for the foreseeable future!
I loved the balance between friendship and the focal point of baseball, where it brought everyone together. The spice scenes though; um, who told me to read chapter 13 on my lunch break? 🥵
I was rooting for Rylee, and I won’t lie there was times I was like Riles, ‘fight for your man’ and she came through! Like my jaw dropped when she did; I’m sure the woman who was sat next to me thought I’d lost the plot 😂
Simply put, I adored 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵! I can’t wait to see what’s next in store for you
Tropes:
- Boy obsessed - Brother’s best friend - Childhood friends to lovers - Sports romance ⚾️
This book was amazing 🫶🏽 and I loved all the characters. I just think it was so cute and I love brothers best friends trope and this book was just so 🫶🏽😭 like they way the loved each other and they were obsessed? I love it. Carlie was so amazing writing this characters I can’t wait to read more of her work 🫶🏽
This book reminded me of my home, I am a softball girl, my whole family is and it is a game that we all play together, and I loved seeing it projected here.
This was a very cute friends to lovers and I can say that it has a bit of a second chance because they had feelings for each other but since she is the younger sister of his best friend, it’s not possible because of the "bro code" and since he left the town, she was left with resentment towards him since they were friends before everything happened, then he comes back and there it starts all over again.
I really liked the story, I had a good time reading, the spicy scenes were on point, I really liked the part that there wasn't so much drama when all this was revealed about them being together, I really liked it because sometimes In some books they tells us how the news didn't like the brother and they show us tremendous drama, but here it was almost non-existent and everything is resolved in a way that the story flows quite well.
I look forward to another book by the author because I feel that I love her way of writing, I had a good time reading this book, I laughed a lot in some parts and I remembered my house a lot and I think that's why the experience in this book was great.
🫂 thank you to Carlie Jane & Greys Promo for the arc in exchange for my honest review 📚!!
_______________
Tropes: second chance romance, small town, brother’s best friend, best friend’s little sister, forced proximity
Review: AHHHH!! Who doesn’t love a best friend’s little sister romance? Carlie outdid herself with this book and writes the two of these MCs to near perfection. The book is dual POV and is swoony worthy!
Riley and Miles are two people who have secretly pined for one another for years. While Riley has grown resentful for the way Miles left suddenly and cut off their friendship, we see that Miles is just as distraught. The way the Miles tries to get Riley to forgive him and the persistent way her tries to explain to her drew me into this read.
Riley and Miles are two peas in a pod and I loved how it was so obvious how they liked each other but Riley’s brother Ryan was so clueless. I enjoyed how Carlie did not write Riley as a pushover. The fact that Riley did not immediately forgive Miles for his prior actions was what made me love this book, it made her seem more independent and not just love struck. I also thought it added layers to the book and added complexity to the relationship.
Miles on the other hand was an MMC that I could get behind. I enjoyed how protective he was of Riley and how much he cared for her. I also liked that he was the one who wanted to be out in the open and not hide their relationship. My favorite part of his character though was how once Ryan found out about him and Riley, he was able to keep his cool and explain.
This book is an explosive read that has intense angst and chemistry. It has everything we like to read in second chance romances and brother’s best friend/best friend’s little sister tropes.
This is Carlie's debut novel. Even though she already published three other books in the meantime. I've read the other books, but I haven't read his one (until now).
I loved Miles and Rylee so much. The hate Rylee had 💥 And yes, it was justified. He really treated her like an ahole would do 8 years ago 🤬 But now that Miles is back, they could get their second chance 🩷 If there wasn't Ryan, Rylee's brother. And I really didn't get Ryan. Aaaaarg, how could he be that hypocritical??? 🤬 Being with Rylee's best friend, but wouldn't allow his best friend to date his sister. What a douchebag! And still, that's the most exciting part of this brother's best friend trope. Waiting when they get caught and how the brother reacts 🤣
Miles is such a golden retriever 🩷 He does everything for Rylee. Even what he did 8 years ago was because he thought about her. But he is also very possessive and jealous 😎 There are a few scenes 💥💥💥🙈 Rylee is a little bit of a wallflower, but just because she just wanted one guy, Miles.
There are so many wonderful "special" scenes in this book. My favorites are: The scene when Miles teaches Rylew how to bat 🔥 The whole first date 🩷 And the scene after Rylee's injury 🥰
I love books where there are strong friendships. And this book is full of it. Ava, Rylee's best friend, but also the whole team.
Even though this is a sports romance, it's not professional sports. But they have a fun team and it's a lot of playtime in the book. So if you like baseball (or softball), you should try this book 😁
This book was perfect for a hot afternoon outside. It was cute, light, and easy read.
Miles and Rylee are childhood best friends, along with her brother Ryan. Miles fell in love with Rylee at 16 but couldn’t be with her because it’s his best friends sister. Well fast forward 6 years and Miles is back. Not only is he back in town, but he’s also back on the co-ed softball team with our Rylee. He isn’t going to let Riles (their names put together…I know…swoon) get away from him this time. He is so precious and I absolutely loved his character. He made up the greatest first date ever and he was so…gentle isn’t the right word because our Riley don’t want that shit…but he was perfect with her. Miles is also a dirty talker and also a giver 😉. The spice was just right in this book…frequent once it happened but there was still plot and I loved their dynamic and how mature they were. Riley is a take no shit kind of gal and I loved it. She is sweet, funny, and super competitive. The competitiveness from both of them really made the story fun.
I recommend this book if you want sports (softball), frenemies (more friends) to lovers, best-friends sister, second chance-ish, and just all around a good book!
✨ “…everything about you reminds me of what it feels like to come home after a long trip away.” -Miles
