Even though this was suppose to be day by day through a year, I read it quicker as it was borrowed from someone and I wanted to give it back. I was an interesting read still, as I found out a lot about the Amish. I didn't realized there were different orders of Amish. And even though I don't go to church, this just gave me a lot to think about.

We loved reading a page out of this book each day after our scripture study. While it doesn't all coincide with what we believe, there were so many great tidbits of insight and thought. We loved their proverbs and found so much to appreciate in this book!

This was a delightful book to read during the entire year. Each day brought a Bible verse, proverb, and a look into the lives of Amish people, their customs, beliefs, and everyday lives. This book is a must for anyone who wants to learn more about the Amish or just read about their way of life.

About The Author: Tricia Goyer is the author of over 30 books and has been published in many national publications such as Focus on the Family, Today's Christian Woman and HomeLife Magazine. She has won numerous awards and has been nominated for both the Gold Medallion Book Award and Christy Award. Tricia is a highly sought after speaker at workshops and conferences and is the founder of Hope Pregnancy Ministries in Northwestern Montana. Tricia is married to the love of her life, John, and they have four great kids. They live in Little Rock, Arkansas where John works for FamilyLife.

My Thoughts On The Book: I am a huge fan of daily devotionals and Amish fiction. I have one I keep at work, one I keep near my favorite chair, and one I keep by my bed. I use them all daily. Amish Peace is a book full of daily devotions, each one dated so you never lose track of what day you are on. Each day has an Amish proverb, a Bible verse, an Amish related devotion, and end with a short prayer. Each devotion is short and to the point and it is just the perfect size for a quick moment with God, Amish style. If you are looking for something light and easy that you can do in just a few minutes during your busy day then this is your book. It is not a deep study, yet it is a powerful devotional. Amish Peace is one of those you want to go to for some one-on-oe with God. I found each devotional to be almost like a hug from God. This book would be a great one for personal use, or a special gift.

REVIEW:

We live in such a fast paced world that sometimes we don't take time to talk to God. There always seems to be something that seems more important keeping us from talking to God. The Amish live a simpler
life and God is the center of that life. The Amish has the opportunity to see the goodness and wonders of God because their lifestyle is meant to be at a slower pace. You probably, as I have thought that living Amish would be wonderful, peaceful and less stressful. That may be, but not everyone would be cut out for the simple life. The Amish work hard, they rise early, go to bed early. They have different life rules than the Englisch have. We live a very pampered life what with electricity, cars, all the modern conveniences that make our lives so much easier. But the Amish don't believe in a lot of those conveniences.

We need to take a step back and think. Do we really need all of this? Maybe we should step back and be in touch with the Divine. All of those conveniences come and go but God is always near. We need to slow down and start to take in the beauty of life and who gave that to us. THE ONE YEAR BOOK of AMISH PEACE may help you find a way to slow that pace down and enjoy the simple things in life. Simple things like the sunshine, flowers, people and God.

The book THE ONE YEAR BOOK of AMISH PEACE has dated devotions so you can keep track of what day you're at. I know that will help me alot. I sometimes forget. There are Amish proverbs, Bible verses, devotions, and a brief prayer. Each devotion is about a page in length which is just right for a quick devotion that includes both God and the Amish. This book is a devotional, not a Bible study. It will take just a small potion of your time. You may find that in a small amount of time, you'll find God is there to help you deal with problems, share the good times and put a little peace in your heart. Take time to slow down and let God into your heart. Take a lesson from the Amish. Simpler is better. This is not your typical Amish book. This is a book you can put beside your Bible, or slip in your bag when you go to the doctor's office. While you're waiting read a little.

I received a complimentary e-copy from Tyndale Publishers for this unbiased review.

A five star review.

Title: THE ONE YEAR BOOK OF AMISH PEACE
Author: Tricia Goyer
Publisher: Tyndale
September 2013
ISBN: 978-1-4143-7980-7
Genre: Devotional

Let the simplicity of the Amish draw you closer to God.

In this instantly connected world, it’s surprisingly easy to lose our connection to God.

What’s admirable about the Amish lifestyle is that it intentionally slows the pace of life so there’s an opportunity to see the everyday grandeur of our great God.

Not everyone can—or should—adopt an Amish lifestyle. But the Amish can inspire all of us to slow down and simplify our lives. We need to learn to let go of our glittering gadgets in order to grab hold of something of infinitely greater value—the Divine.

The One Year Book of Amish Peace will inspire you to set a sustainable pace of life so that you, too, can take the time to enjoy God’s gifts each and every day.

THE ONE YEAR BOOK OF AMISH PEACE is a book full of daily devotions, dated, so you never lose track of what day you are on. They include an Amish proverb, a Bible verse, a devotion, and an short prayer. Each devotion is about a page in length, making it the perfect size for a quick devotion centered around God and the Amish.

This isn’t a deep Bible study type book and isn’t intended to take the place of your Bible study. It is a devotional, taking less than a minute or two of your time.

I love reading devotionals. They are just perfect for one-on-one moments with God when you need a quick pick-me-up, or a moment of God-time. This book fulfilled my expectations, with cute stories, applicable verses and proverbs, and a prayer (though I add my own additional comments there.) THE ONE YEAR BOOK OF AMISH PEACE would be a perfect devotional for the Amish fiction fans on your Christmas list, or for yourself. $15.99. 400 pages. 5 stars.

The One Year Book of Amish Peace, Hearing God’s voice in the Simple Things by Tricia Goyer
This is an awesome book. I have always admired the Amish lifestyle so finding a devotion that gives a glimpse into their everyday life is a great find. The book is set up that you can start it anytime of the year, just find today’s date and jump right in. You start off with the scripture of the day, and then look at how it is relevant to the Amish in their everyday lives. The simple peaceful way of their lives inspire me to slow down and look at what is really important. The author did a great job of showing me how to live simpler and I plan to implement a few of the Amish ways into my own life with the hope of finding peace and a less stressful lifestyle. I admire the way the author stated, “To submit to others in an Amish community is to understand their position as children of God. It’s also to understand that when we do right and attempt to live right, God will strengthen us, give us understanding, and give power to the weak and strength to the powerless. When we look to Him and submit to our fellow followers, He is glorified. We show His power when we don’t try to claim it for ourselves.” I give the author Tricia Goyer and the publisher a high five for bringing a devotion that gives hope and inspires the readers with stories of a strong faith. I admire the way she brought the scripture to life with stories of the Amish lifestyle that was not over preachy. This book is a five star or higher if it was possible. Great job Tricia Goyer

Disclosure: I received a review copy in exchange for my honest review.

When I saw that Tricia was offering up review copies of The One Year Book of Amish Peace: Hearing God's Voice in the Simple Things I jumped at the chance. I love Tricia Goyer's books and love reading about the Amish.

Also? I am slightly addicted to Bible studies.

Each day includes a look into the Amish lifestyle; from dating to cooking to marriage to farming, Tricia opens the door into the life of one of the most fascinating cultures right here in our own backyard. A Bible verse is at the top of each page and a short prayer is at the bottom. On most pages there is a short proverb or quick info about a particular practice.

I love how peaceful and true to God the Amish are. They spend most of their time in silence {what is that like?!}. Other than the services on Sunday - which are read in both German and English - there is no talking on the Sabbath. All prayers are said in silence. They do read in the evenings; mostly the Bible, the Amish newspaper, Amish books, and some have branched out to read Amish fiction written by English writers.

The simplistic lifestyle of the Amish is something that should be treasured and even emulated. Today's society is too worried about looks and clothes and plastic surgery. The Amish worry about none of that and don't even have mirrors in their home. Imagine that!

All in all I find this to be a study that I will read each year. I started it in November when I received it and will be starting it over on the first of January.

Looking for a short devotional to read each morning? Look no further! Tricia's new The One Year Book of Amish Peace is just the one for you! Each day has a verse, and then a short little devotion relating to the verse and Amish life quite frequently. Then a little nugget of practicality and closes with a prayer. One that I have started writing out every day. Then on the side is little Amish facts.

I have become enamored with the Amish lifestyle. Seems so peaceful. - There are lots of proverbs and just little things to brighten your day. So make it a great day every day, start it out with God and Tricia!

Each day of this devotional includes a Scripture reading, a devotion with Amish insights, an Amish proverb and a short prayer. These are not so long that they take a lot of time to read, but are thought provoking and a great way to start off your morning (or to end a busy day).

I plan on reading it all the way through when the New Year arrives, so I've only read a few of the entries. But what I have read is a great encouragement to me, especially since this is such a busy time of year and things can feel a bit stressful. It soothes the soul to shut out all the outside distractions and noises for just a few minutes and focus on what is important. That is a wonderful take away from the Amish culture: to slow down, focus on the important things, and tune out the distractions.

One of the proverbs that spoke to me lately was this one because it applies to a situation I've been trying to be patient about.

"Patience is a word that carries a lot of wait."

It's hard, but sometimes we just have to wait and see what God brings.

Other Amish proverbs are definitely thought provoking and words that I have found to be true in my life at some point. They are definitely relatable.

My Review:

I have read quite a few books by Tricia Goyer and I have enjoyed all the ones I have read, so I was immediately interested in this devotional. This book is laid out for a year, so I haven’t read the entire book, but I have read a few of the different dates and I have liked what I have read.

I absolutely love this one year devotional! I love devotionals in general, but what makes this one extra special is the Amish theme!
Through the days, I have learned so much about the Amish way of life (for instance: most Amish homes have a special Sunday night treat-popcorn!) and how to adapt some of their ways in my own life. This devotional has inspired me so much in ways that are practical and spiritual- each day brought something new!
There are real Amish Proverbs throughout the devotional as well as recipes for each season of the year! (Example: It is better to rejoice that our purse is half full than to fret that it is half empty.)
I also enjoyed getting to know more about Tricia through the personal stories she shares.

If you long for the simple way of life, if you desire to grow in your relationship with God… The One Year Book of Amish Peace is the devotional for you!!!

I really love yearly devotionals. That is why this book didn't get reviewed at the end of last year. I had to wait until I could begin it with the new year. I'm so glad I waited too.
Each day brings a new vignette that teaches us something about living a good life based on Amish practices and beliefs. Tricia also uses references to the bible to get us to understand fully what that teaching is. More often than not, after reading the daily vignette and teachings, I have to sit a while and really think about what I learned or how I feel, even how it makes me feel. That to me is a good devotional, and exactly what you look for.
I will continue to read this every day, as I feel I benefit from the teachings, even though I am not Amish. Their teachings benefit anyone wanting to live a happy, Godly and full life.

I started reading Amish Peace the same day I got it. There is no ending or beginning to this devotional book. You start on the date you want and just follow it like a calendar. I keep my book right with my bible. It is so inspiring and meaningful. At night when my husband and I settle down I read aloud the days devotional and prayers from Amish Peace. We then discuss it and how we can or have been in a situation that is in the book. We have spent many hours just talking about the little things in life lately since reading Tricia's book. I recommend this book for all families. It has brought insight and peace into our daily living. Thank you Tricia Goyer for an outstanding book of faith, fellowship and love.

The One Year Book of Amish Peach by Tricia Goyer has been such a wonderful blessing to me. There is so much we can learn about living Godly lives from the Amish and their traditions. In this devotional Tricia Goyer really makes a great connection between these Amish traditions and ways of lives to our modern lives. Even in our more modern world most of lessons are the same. This really helped me gain a sense of peace and living more for God and it really put everyday worries in perspective. I thought this devotional was very inspiring and is a terrific way to start the day!

You will also find daily inspirations to encourage you throughout your day, Scriptures, a look into the Amish life, and prayers. Tricia has written some Amish inspired fiction books before. I loved reading them and learning something new and inspiring along the way. I've enjoyed learning and seeing what life is like in an Amish community. And this book offers us even more into the Amish life.

Brief, to the point and written in a very relatable way, this book is becoming one of my favorite devotionals. Each devotion includes an inspirational quote, a prayer and a verse of scripture along with the devotion itself. I love how they tie in with the changing seasons! There are even a few recipes. This is the perfect book for those seeking to fit more scripture and a bit of a slower lifestyle into their day. I love starting my day with this book, my Bible and a cup of coffee. I highly recommend trying it!

Wonderful collection of Amish sayings, scripture and small lessons about their culture. Kudos to Tricia Goyer & Tyndale for this lovely devotional which gives us a bird's eye view of the lifestyle of the Amish. I could read a little bit each day and never tire of. Goyer includes portions of their dialect and the translation along with Amish daily proverbs. So much more than a devotional.
