By #1 Kindle bestselling author of "Christmas Is Murder," published by Midnight Ink Books.
Cozy up with a margarita or a cup of tea and settle in for a contemporary whodunit, styled after Agatha Christie.
When Scottish barrister Rex Graves and his fiancée disembark in Key West during a cruise to Mexico, they stumble upon a B & B where a bizarre double murder has just taken place. Victims Merle and Taffy Dyer, dressed up as clowns in celebration of Key West’s October Fantasy Fest, were the unpopular owners of the Dolphin Inn. The intrepid and resourceful Rex, gaining recognition as a world-famous sleuth, is all for abandoning the cruise and delving into murder instead. Little does he suspect what horrors fill this gingerbread-trimmed Victorian guesthouse just off Duval Street, and who among the guests, family, friends, and foe might be a killer in disguise.
C.S. Challinor was raised and educated in Scotland (St. George's School for Girls, Edinburgh) and England (Lewes Priory, Sussex; University of Kent, Canterbury: Joint Hons Latin & French). CHRISTMAS IS MURDER, the first in the series, reached #1 on the Kindle Bestseller List. This title is also available in large print hardcover through Thorndike Reviewer's Choice. The fifth in the series, MURDER OF THE BRIDE, was a Mystery Guild Book Club pick (hardcover) and a Top Five Books of 2011 Selection by Crime Fiction Lover. JUDGMENT OF MURDER, #8, the newest Rex Graves title from Midnight Ink, was released on November 8, 2016, to highly favorable reviews from Publishers Weekly, Booklist, and Kirkus Reviews.
Please note, the covers shown on Goodreads for MURDER IN THE RAW and PHI BETA MURDER are the old covers. These two titles have since been recovered for subsequent editions, print and digital.
Rex and fiancée Helen disembark from a cruise in Key West and decide to stay rather than getting back on their cruise - when Red comes across a murder and can’t resist involving himself, which was a bit too easy this time around. Interesting story and characters, but I think several of the false leads could have used some beefing up and figured larger in the story. Still an enjoyable read in the same style that fans of the series will enjoy.
I'm getting a little disillusioned with this series. I learned more about Key West than anything. So Rex and his fiancé get off of a cruise ship and stumble upon a murder of 2 clowns. Well, 2 people dressed as clowns. So they stay at the B&B where the murder was committed. O...k...
This will probably be my last "Rex" book. I found this and the last couple of the books just not up to par with the first ones. Too much "fill" stuff and not enough of just getting down to the murder at hand.
Scottish barrister Rex Graves has been persuaded by his fiance to go on a cruise. He is looking for any excuse to escape and finds it during a stop at Key West where a double murder has just occurred. Of course this gives him the reason he needs to jump ship as who but him can solve this murder
Still a fun crime story but not my favorite from the series. The guessing of who it might be with all the suspects who all had a reason is nice as always. But the ending didn't do it for me. Didn't like the outcome of who did it and the reason for it. Still some interesting characters.
While I did enjoy this book, my incredulity was stretched to the breaking point. It must get tiring trying to come up with reasons why a protagonist continually runs into murders but it's hard to believe that someone would get off the cruise ship and stumble across police tape, and waltz right into the crime scene and then decide to stay this bed-and-breakfast where murder was committed. Really?
This was a bit slow but I suspect I need to read the previous books in the series. If you don't get those first 2 novels under your belt many of the comments and references are lost on you.
