Inwardly, he needs to be set free from the chaos of revelations that make him question if happiness is obtainable. His father, the upstanding OB/GYN socialite is currently serving prison time after admitting his guilt in an old crime. His older sister refuses to move past the betrayal and attempts to use Rainey as a crutch, but her bitterness is only keeping the family at odds as his twin sister, Cheney Reynolds Jamieson, tries to rebuild a damaged relationship caused by decisions she made in the past. To get away from the drama, Rainey is willing to leave the country under the guise of a mission trip with Dentist Without Borders. Will changing his surroundings really change him? If one woman can heal his wounds, then he will believe that there is really peace after the storm.Ghanaian beauty Josephine Abena Yaa Amoah returns to Africa after completing her studies as an exchange student in St. Louis, Missouri. She'll never forget the good friends she made while living there. She couldn't count Rainey in that circle because she rejected his advances for good causes. Josephine didn't believe in picking up the pieces as the rebound woman from an old relationship that Rainey seems to wear on his sleeve. Although her heart bleeds for his peace, she knows she must step back and pray for Rainey's surrender to Christ in order for God to acquit him of his self-inflicted mental torture. In the Motherland of Ghana, Africa, Rainey not only visits the places of his ancestors, will he embrace the liberty that Christ's Blood really does set every man free.

Mending

In this edition, Dr. Rainey Reynolds, who after thirteen months of pondering, has decided to do some charity work in Ghana. While there he hopes to see Josephine Abena Yaa Amoah, a graduate exchange student that he constantly clashed with at the University of Missouri.

Josephine enjoyed her stay in St. Louis. What she could've done without is being expected to mend Rainey's broken heart. She knows what he is going through is self-inflicted and only God can help him.

What I have come to enjoy about Pat Simmons' books is her ability to lead others to Christ. Readers are privy to the transformation, and you can't help but rejoice for them. I also thoroughly enjoy the family connection and how important each member of this family is to one another. It's a beautiful thing to see strong African American male characters, with love for their families and ancestors. But, and unfortunately there is a but, after so many books, it feels as if you're reading the same story just with different names. All of the men and women are beautiful. They are all affluent and there is always someone that needs GOD in their life in order to get to their love.

"The Acquittal," for me, was not an easy read because I already knew how the entire thing would play out. I truly enjoy Simmons' work. I would just love to see her write an unrelated novel with an altogether different flow.

Liked it, but has timeline issues

Overall, I liked this book. It was interesting reading about the Ghanaian culture. I loved how the Jamieson family and friends pulled together to show up for an in-law. The one thing that irked me was the book mentioned that Kami was now 12 years old and Rainey's father still had a year to serve of his 2 year sentence. How is that possible when Kami was 6 when he went to prison? After reading a few more books in the series and noticing the events in following books occurred before this one, I realized that Kami could very well have been 12, but there is no way Rainey's dad should've still in prison.

Will she say Yes?

Awesomely great story! So glad for Rainey's conversion. I sat on pins and needles if he would be able to woo the stubborn beauty to wife or return to the States. the wedding customs were intriguing and scary., but Rainey was willing to endure them to win the love of his heart.

Magnificent romance 💞

The romance of Josephine and Rainey was superbly narrated, it was as if while reading I could visualize every move, love touches, sadness, happiness... everything. What is glorious, the steps of prayer, lights shown, conviction and repentance of each character.

Simply Beautiful

What a beautiful love story... The love and support of family and friends are so encouraging to a couple. And the added benefit of prayer takes it to a whole new level!

Exhilirating

It was refreshing and very interesting to learn more about the African culture and contrast to American culture. The romance between Rainey and Josephine added sparks to the story.

Not so fond of the fact that the entire book was about Rainey and Josephine but love conquered and they found their way to each other.

Dr. Rainey Renolds appears to be at the top of the world. His career is great, he has amazing friends and family, and he's financially secure. But with a nasty break up in his past, a father in prison, and some family issues, he's feeling anything but great. He also can't get a certain African beauty by the name of Josephine off his mind. She turned him down over a year ago and he still can't get her out of his system. A seemly sudden decision to go to Africa with the Doctors Without Borders sends him on a spiritual and emotional journey that he didn't expect.

This isn't my usual style, but I'll try anything once. I'm so glad that I did. The story was fun and the writing style is unique. The author has a no holds bared approach to salvation that is refreshing and eye opening. The characters were entertaining and realistic. I enjoyed reading about the history of Ghana and learning more about the customs and worship styles that they have there. I look forward to reading more by this author.

I received this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review.

The Acquittal spans two continents and two completely different lifestyles. But love and the love of God conquer all. The author did a splendid job of incorporating the practical use of scripture throughout the story without it becoming too preachy. The Acquittal explores not only the love of God, but love and dedication to family, forgiveness and compromise. The descriptions of Ghana almost bounced off the pages. I could actually envision myself on the crowded streets trying to negotiate traffic and hawkers. Most definitely a book worth reading. Very enchanting.

Pat Simmons hit this story out of the ball park. If you're familiar with the Jamieson men from her other books, this one is about Cheney's Brother. Marriage and relationships are all about compromise, and you will see this couple ( who are both stubborn by the way) struggle with this. As always a great job.

I have read many of Pat Simmons books. She never disappoints. Just finished reading The Acquittal. It was AWESOME! It shed some light on the African culture.

I just love how she brings her characters to life. They are Christian characters with real life issues.

Cannot wait for her NEXT book!
