Over the years I have had the opportunity to work with and talk to hundreds of eBay sellers. Some of them were brand new to eBay others have been selling for ten years or more now.
Every one of them has a unique story about how they got started selling on eBay, and about what they expect to take away from it.
Many people I know embraced eBay because it gave them a real opportunity to start their own businesses with little or no risk, other than the time they invested. A lot of parents have looked at eBay as a chance to stay home with their children and be with them as they are growing up.
For others, eBay has supplemented a lifetime of low wage jobs, or has given them hope after being laid off from a lifetime career in corporate America.
Some have used their eBay incomes as a stepping stone to other careers. Many have become consultants or experts in the product lines that they started selling on eBay. Some have become instructors helping other people to start and operate successful online businesses.
For me, eBay gave me extra money to buy new cars and a bigger house when I was working. After a corporate layoff in 2004, selling on eBay gave me the opportunity to build a strong and solid business of my own. Over the last year eBay has become my stepping stone to a new career in writing, and helping other people learn how to start selling on eBay. Ever since I was a kid I had this crazy urge to read and write. There is something about a book that can open up new worlds to you. When I was younger I read every Max Brand and Zane Grey western I could get my hands on. Then, I found Kenneth Roberts and his historical novels – Arundel, Northwest Passage, A Rabble in Arms. The detail he worked into them was mind blowing.
In college I was turned on to Frodo Baggins and the world of the Hobbits. I found Kurt Vonnegut downright inspiring. I still remember sitting in David Morrell’s classroom at the University of Iowa back in the late seventies, listening to his lectures on early American literature.
After graduation, I lost touch with my writing self for over thirty years, until I was brought face-to-face with this new-fangled thing they called Kindle. It reminded me of what I was all about.
In the years since then I have penned over twenty books, most of them with an e-commerce bent – How to sell on eBay, Amazon, and Fiver. I have written innumerable history books, started and given up on over a dozen novels.
The most amazing thing is, I can say whatever I want to say. I can write it today, put it out there for sale tomorrow, and within a day – sometimes two or three, someone else in this world is going to connect with what has been rattling around in my brain. How cool is that!
Indie Authors Toolbox is just that, a collection of gadgets and doodads you can whip out when you need them to spice up your writing; learn a little more about self-publishing; or connect with one troubled brain that is focused on figuring out this thing we call Indie Publishing.
Welcome aboard. Hold on because you are in for one hell of a ride.
As someone who has sold on ebay for over fifteen years, I am always on the lookout for tips on how to make my business more effective.
This book is a real Gem! After reading it, couldn't put it down... read the whole book in about three hours, after I was right on my ebay... fixing things :)
Thanks for a really informative book, that is making me think outside the ebay box :)
Also it has a great list in the back of the other auction sites out there, and what you can expect or not expect... which is so useful!
All in all, I am delighted to have won this on Goodreads, and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to sell a little or a lot on ebay.
I was sent a review copy of this book, and like the author states it's a quick easy read. I've sold on Ebay before so some of what the author had to say I'd already heard, but it did have some new tips I hadn't heard before and if you're new to selling on Ebay the book would be a good place to start.
Excellent book, I learned a lot. I'm going to start selling on eBay. This is a fast easy to read book with vital information on how to sell on eBay and be successful. I highly recommend this book. I received this book free from the author, but this did in no way influence my decision.
