Book four in the Home Series

Chaz struggles with his addiction, while continuing to do his job of saving bull riders, but it’s all getting out of control.

Charles 'Chaz' O’Brien has been at the top of his profession for many years, enduring injuries that would have crushed a lesser man. Yet the top bullfighter isn’t calling it quits any time soon. He does his job with a fierce joy, all the while he’s hiding a terrible secret. One that could get him suspended, and could end up killing the very men he protects.

Peter Skinner loves working for Les Hardin and Randy Hersch. His bosses are amazing men, but seeing how in love they are every day makes Peter’s heart ache. He wishes he could find a man to love him like that, but he knows they’re hard to come by in Wyoming where he lives.

Until one day, Peter finds a man strung-out in an alley, and Peter is the only one around to deal with it. When Peter and Chaz meet, their worlds collide in a way that could be the best thing in the world for them both, or the worst experience of their lives.

It had been 2 years since I'd read the third book in this series and got my greedy hands on this one; however, it felt like only yesterday. I easily remembered all the guys and it was like a coming home for me. (pun intended)

Peter is away from his awful family now; living with Les and Randy. How is it possible that your entire gene pool is so tainted with ugliness? Sad, but true for sweet, trusting and innocent Peter.

Chaz is a rodeo clown and in some serious, physical pain. The career that he loves has whipped his ass and the only way he can function is to self-medicate. Unfortunately he has a serious problem and in the end it hurts the man he has come to love, Peter.

Cue the intervention from the altruistic Les.

Of course this will have a HEA or it wouldn't be part of the Home series, but it was sweet (and how could it not because Peter was adorable) and very Sexy!

Hoping for a Matthew book....but yeehaw...Yancy and Juan are next! I've been waiting on those two for YEARS...literally!

I'll be honest this would probably have been a 2 star book for me if I didn't already love all the other characters. This entire story felt rushed and on the surface. I didn't really connect with either character and I really wanted to with Peter. He's been around in the background for so long I was looking forward to his story. While I appreciated Ms. Chase's attempts at writing drug addiction I didn't feel like people's reactions were that honest in the end. I just felt like everything was very pat and what could have been a very deep and troubling story got glossed over to stay in the sweet pretty world Ms. Chase likes to write in. Now normally I love her world. But with such a heavy subject matter the two just didn't seem to click.

Peter is struggling to deal with the fact his mother, recently diagnosed with cancer, still refuses to see him. After leaving the hospital he stumbles over a man almost passed out in an alley. Chaz is in pretty bad shape. He's high on pain meds and can barely walk. Somehow despite his better judgement Peter decides to take him home with him. It turns out Chaz is a rodeo clown with major back issues he isn't willing to truly deal with. He's worried first and foremost about the loss of his career so instead of surgery he self medicates spending a good portion of his time high to get away from the pain. Over the couple of weeks of vacation Chaz has left he manages to let go of the pills for a time and finds himself falling for Peter as Peter is falling for him. But once he's back on the road again with the rodeo he falls back on the pills to get through. It's only as a devastating occurs that Chaz might be able to pull himself out of his downward spiral.

As I've said I wanted to like this story, but I never could see what Peter fell in love with about Chaz and Peter's naivety felt forced. While Chaz's need to hide his addiction and the pain he was in felt natural enough it never really went deep enough for me. And in the end Peter's forgiveness of Chaz was over way to quickly and tied up in a neat little bow. Now I'm a sucker for a happy ending as much as the next hopeless romantic, but that doesn't mean I don't want to see my characters work for it. I hope Yancey and Juan's book is more in keeping with the first three in this series than this one. I've waited a while to read their story.

This series has a really strong message about family. "..the best families were the ones they built for themselves." and this continues in this book.

The story focuses very much on Peter, who has been rejected by his family, and now lives at the Hardin ranch and works as an accountant for Les. The story starts with Peter collecting his belongings but more importantly being ready to start over in a new home. "It might not be the family he'd been born with, but it was the one he'd chosen, and, to be honest, the men and women Peter was going to see in a few minutes were the people he felt the most real with. They had opened their hearts and homes to him, even when his grandfather had treated Les so poorly."

Peter and his friends, are all good people. They go out of their way to give people a second chance and are not judgmental. It was nice to see the introduction of a character who had flaws, someone who was battling demons and making wrong decisions.

Peter finds Chaz in a alley - collapsed, dirty and strung out. He rescues him (he's one of the good guys) and takes him home to the ranch. Peter actually feels an immediate attraction to Chaz which has him puzzled. "He needed to get a handle on this weird attraction. There was no way in hell Peter could want a dirty druggie who was more than likely homeless."

The story follows the development of a relationship between Peter and Chaz. They face obstacles, including Peter's friends protectiveness and of course, Chaz's dependence on pills. However, it is easy to feel sympathatic towards Chaz (while at the same time wanting to shake some sense into him). He desperately wants to do the right thing by Peter "He was a good man who saw something worthwhile in Chaz, and Chaz wanted to live up to Peter's expectations. but doesn't not have the faith in himself "He'd screwed up enough times in his life that he wasn't the kind of guy to make vows to people."

This story was well-paced, the characters were fabulous and there was some great drama. Les' interference at the end of the book annoyed me slightly as it delayed the happy ending I was hoping for, but there was a level of realism to the conclusion of the book that gave confidence that Peter and Chaz were definitely destined for happy ever after!

I'm so addicted to this book series. I love the guys in the Home series. T.A. Chase does an excellent job at creating a new book each time. This book is about Peter Skinner. It takes place about five years after Max and Derek's story.

In the prologue Yancey is helping Peter move out of his family's home (this takes place at the end of Max and Derek's story, but in this book.) They kicked him out because he was gay. The first chapter picks up half a decade later with him finding Chaz O'Brien in an alley so strung out that he can barely move without help.

Peter takes him back to the ranch trusting his gut knowing it might be a mistake. Margie and him are the only ones there because Les and Randy are gone to Germany again along with Tony and Brody. Jackson has finally gotten married to Tammy so he's on his honeymoon. (I was so thrilled about that, it finally happened.)

Chaz starts getting a handle once he showers, but he's far from recovered. Les calls and Peter asks him if Chaz can stay for the next two weeks before he has to go back to the circuit as a bull fighter. Les agrees and Chaz stays.

Peter has never been with another guy, but he knows what he wants. Chaz knew when he was fifteen and has been around. Chaz and Peter start a relationship while Chaz is there. Chaz is Peter's first and they find that they are falling for each other.

Chaz has an addiction problem though and he is trying to stop, but it is going to take something big to get him to make a choice. Peter helped him some and as it is said in the book they found true-love.

Peter goes to see Chaz to watch him work, but after they go out to eat that wake up call for Chaz comes in a way I didn't see coming. I was heart broken for both of them because of what happened.

Les gave Chaz an option after what happened even though he is angry at the man for what happened. Chaz takes the second chance he's given and for a year he disappears.

By the end of the book twelve months have gone by and Peter is living in Austin with Max and Derek. He still loves Chaz and never stopped. Chaz shows up making good on his promise to Les. Things have changed, but their love for each other hasn't and another happy ending happens. Love the happy endings.

Finally a new story in this series! Hooray! This was great...I just couldn't put it down. I loved getting to see the characters from the previous books back, and I thought that Peter and Chaz were just great together. I thought this was very sweet, real, and well done. Can't wait to read the next book!

I had read some of the earlier books some years ago, but just got this book and #5 in the series. This one had more plot than some of Ms. Chase's books. I was surprised that Peter would bring a druggie to Les and Randy's place. I was also surprised that Peter was a virgin at age 30.

The usual crew are away in Europe for much of the book, but Les returns in time to be the deus ex machina.

It seemed pretty realistic that people working with bulls in rodeos would get badly wounded sometimes. B.A. Tortuga has some of that in her Roughstock series, bull riders and bullfighters who get badly injured by the bulls, or by falls, or both.

People in physically demanding jobs becoming addicted to painkillers after injuries is a very topical real-life issue. Peter sees Chaz in really rough shape at the beginning, but once Chaz recovers from that incident, Chaz believes that his use of painkillers is under control. Peter wasn't being an enabler as far as helping Chaz get the drugs, but he knew better than to get involved with an addict and got involved anyway.

There's some telling what happened in the book rather than what might have been interesting scenes, but there are still interesting scenes as well.

I think it was me. I just didn't connect with this book or the characters. I loved the other books in this series, but Peter and Chaz just didn't do much for me. It was a good story of redemption, recovery, and finding yourself. Peter finds Chaz in an alleyway, high and in pain. Chaz is addicted to painkillers after suffering numerous injuries as a bullfighter. What follows is completely formulaic and predictable. No real surprises. But I think it was just me being jaded.

Aww bless Peter and his big heart. He is my favourite, innocent, sweet and caring. I loved this book.
I felt sorry for Chaz even though I wanted to give him a damn good shake.

A good book that is well written with a great storyline.

“Leaving home was an integral part of growing up. It was an important step to discovering who a man was to become.”

Bringing drunk, strung out men home is not Peter Skinner’s regular practice, but something about Chaz leads Peter to do just that. Peter leads a quiet life on a ranch owned by his best friends who have become his family in the past several years. And now Chaz, the beautiful broken bullfighter, has rushed into his life and Peter doesn’t know what to think of it.

Charles “Chaz” O’Brien loves his job as a bullfighter for the PBR. It’s all he’s ever wanted. He’s used to living his life in pain due to several back injuries sustained in his line of work. And he can manage as long as he has enough pain medication. Meeting Peter took Chaz by surprise. As much as he intended to only have a fling with the sweet, innocent accountant, it doesn’t take long to develop feelings for Peter.

Chaz tries to hide his drug use from Peter, but Peter is not as blind to it as he would like. Chaz refuses to see his drug use as a problem. But if he wants to keep Peter, Chaz will have to decide what is most important to him before he risks losing everything.
Finally! Finally there is new addition to this series of sexy cowboys and heart-stopping rodeos and angst-filled relationships. Fans of T.A. Chase’s Home series have been waiting a while for Peter’s story. And while I’m not at all disappointed with the way Peter’s story turned out, I do have a few issues with this book.

I like Peter – of course I do. I’ve liked Peter since his introduction in No Going Home. He’s so sweet and innocent, and maybe a little naïve and too trusting. But none of that makes him weak. In fact, he’s a very mentally and emotionally strong, relatively confident character. Chaz is the more complicated of the two. He’s happy with his life no matter what anyone thinks. He’s strong, determined, and stubborn. He’s in denial and doesn’t see his addiction taking over his life. And it takes rock bottom for him to realize he has a problem. He’s a perfectly flawed, beautiful character. And really, Peter and Chaz are great together and fit together so well. I am delighted with this relationship and how it turned out.

I enjoyed this story – the happenstance of their meeting, the angst, the focus on addiction. It’s a wonderful plot that I could see playing out in real life. It’s decently paced, but there is a lot of time skipped. Over half of the book is the first few days after meeting, when Peter and Chaz are getting to know one another, then the story skips to about two weeks later where they admit that they could fall in love with each other and then it skips again to a month or so later. I would have liked to actually see how the relationship grew throughout all of that time that was left out.

It seems that I’ve read a lot of stories lately that have focused on some sort of addiction, and this one it the first in a long time that I’ve found likable and believable. The actual addiction and reason behind it, as well as the denial and trying to hide it, the effect it has on the people around the addict, and rehabilitation and healing – it was all added and well defined in this story. And I love that. This author put a horrible situation into the light and created a beautiful story of healing and love.

So, I do have some other issues with this book. First, there are several details that don’t match up and aren’t consistent throughout the story, mostly timing issues, but they were still noticeable. And I don’t get the point of the role of Pete’s Uncle Roscoe in the story. That part of the story served no purpose, nor did it add anything to the plot. It’s frustrating and confusing.

Okay, so don’t get me wrong. Even with the noticeable issues I had with this book, I still enjoyed the story. It is sweet and angsty, and I certainly love a broken cowboy. And as always, I’m looking forward to more from this series. Hopefully, Matthew, Chaz’s brother, will get a story, and maybe Cody. Next up Yancey and Jaun. I can’t wait to finally read their story.

Note: The Home series by T.A. Chase is best if read in sequential order.

Peter rescues Chaz from an ally where he is intoxicated and takes him home.
Chaz is on vacation from his job as a bullfighter with the rodeo and over the couple of weeks he is with Peter, the 2 hit it off but Chaz is nursing a drug addiction.
Following an accident which leaves Peter in the hospital, Chaz goes into rehab and gets sober and the 2 get their HEA.
A nice story about the family you make although for somebody with back problems and severe pain, he sure had a lot of sex.

I really didnt know what to make of this book. The theme of drug-abuse was really intense and realistic so the author did a great job on that. Having said that, for 75% of the book I didnt like Chaz and I felt awful for not liking him. I understood the reasons for his use of drugs and sympathized with him, but I did not want him to be in a relationship with Peter. I just didnt buy that Chaz loved Peter, when he was clearly more in love with the drugs and his job. *Sigh* This book made me feel bad for being so harsh on Chaz and I feel horrible about myself after reading it. After the accident all I could think of was "well of course that had to happen, otherwise where would the story go...."

But I love this series and I am even more in love with Les Harding than I was before. Cant wait to read Juan and Yancey's story.

This was another great read in the Home series. This was book Four so by now I am very fond of all the characters. I really am enjoying seeing the characters and their relationships develop throughout this series!
I was so happy when I realised this book was about Peter, his family had disowned him early on in in the series and although he played a quiet part in the books I could feel his pain. He finally falls in love with Chaz who has many problems as well as injuries and a addiction. This is a story of finding love and trying to keep hold of it against all the odds!
As with all the other book I read this in one sitting! Once I start reading there is no putting it down!

I can not wait to start the next book although am feeling a little sad as I know it's the last one available in this addictive series.
Highly recommend!

I forgot how much I loved this series. While the books are about different people Les & Randy are always around somewhere.

This book dealt with some real real life issues and had some strong feels going on. The story line was strong but I felt like the characters weren't clicking as much as they could. Don't get me wrong I love it and loved the guys but thought there could have been a little something more.

I won't wait that long between books this time!

Super good! I havent read all the books in this series so I cant really compare but this book alone was very good.
In the beginning chaz is apparently coming off a bender where he has lost track of days and time. However in the days following his medication is rationed to him but he does not go through WD. In fact he never goes through WD at any point. Thats a little inconsistent in my opinion but it didnt really detract from the story.

I must say that I agree with Shelby's review. I expected so much more from Peter's story than this rushed story. I also must say once again that it drives me insane reading non-american wording and spelling in a story that is based in America with american characters. In America it's ..... spoiled NOT spoilt; learned NOT learnt, leaned NOT leant; program NOT programme; curb NOT kerb!!! We also say that someone is in the hospital NOT in hospital.

This makes me sad to write but this was hard to read. It felt like it was written by a different author, it didn't have the spark the others in the series did. I didn't love them as couple till the very end and even then I think I would have preferred Peter with Cody :( The writing style didn't flow for me like the others, the connection was just lost on me. I will venture on though to the next. Les fixes everything!!!

Fourth in the Home series, Leaving Home gives us Peter Skinner's story. I still love this series and will see it through to the end. The short length of the book hurts the story and makes the ending feel as rushed as it is. For my full review and take on the series, visit http://wp.me/p220KL-1dC

Peter was such a lovely and wonderful character I just wanted to hug him. And when he met and saved Chaz I was so hoping that everything between them would work out, even after the accident. I was so mad at Chaz, but still loved him and wanted to make him better. The ending was sweet and so well deserved.

Not my favourite of this series. I liked Peter but felt that for someone who was saving himself, he fell into bed with Chaz too fast. I also couldn't connect with Chaz and didn't really get the love between them.

This one was a little tougher. Chaz had to learn the hard way the drugs are NOT the answer to life's problems. Peter had to be strong for himself so he could be strong for both of them. In the end Chaz realized that Peter was what he really needed.
