Ember of Night #3

Spark of Ash (The Ember of Night Series)

Rate this book
The Seven--the Divine beings meant to protect the world--just declared war. On me. They took Ray, my baby sister, and now they're using my boyfriend to do their dirty work. Well, screw that. I may not be able to wipe them off the face of the earth now, but I know what can. Thanks to an Ather connection, I know about the Seven Scrolls. An ancient incantation made by the Creator to counteract the Seven's great power, scattered into pieces across the world. With the help of my new crew, we're on the hunt. And with each located scroll, I face new battles, bloodier and harder than I've ever known before. But now the stakes are even higher, because Ray has always been my bright light in the darkness, and Draven is my hope when all seems lost, and if I don't get them back? Well, then I might just become the scariest legend the world has ever known.

Wow! What an intense ride! Spark of Ash is the last book in the Ember of Night trilogy, and there was never a dull moment for Harley and her friends. Kidnappings, learning to harness incredible power, testing the bonds of family and friendship, embracing one’s future, fighting against the corruption of power, and more make for a super intense read.

At the start of Spark of Ash, the Seven have Ray, Harley’s little sister, and have used Draven to take her. Furious, terrified, and determined to get the two most important people in her life back, Harley enlists the help of her allies to take down the Seven and get Draven and Ray back. Harley and her crew must hunt down the scrolls that counteract the Seven’s power, but danger lurks around every corner.

Love, friendship, family, peace, safety – these aren’t things one would expect the Antichrist to desire, but that’s exactly what Harley longs for, and I love how far she’s come over the course of the trilogy. Harley is a survivor, and she really comes into her own in this story. She is more self-assured and takes control. She is a leader and a force to be reckoned with, which is fantastic and fearsome. What I love most is that Harley always fights for the things and the people she loves, and it all comes to an explosive climax in this story.

Another highlight of the story is the romance between Harley and Draven. They share such a deep and unbreakable bond, and it is put to the test in this book. They are endgame, and I was so hoping that they would find their way back to each other. It seems pretty impossible since the Seven have taken him, erased his memories, and are using him to lure Harley. However, they underestimate the connection Harley and Draven share and their determination to be together. Every time they’re together, you can feel the chemistry between them, and there are some wonderful, tender (and spicy) scenes that highlight what Harley is fighting for.

The found family aspect of the story is fantastic. I love this unusual family Harley has forged. Each of the characters is unique and well-developed, and I love how, though they are very different, they all mesh together well. And I adore the relationship between Draven and Ryder! They’ve been apart for so many years, and each carries so many burdens. It’s wonderful to see these brothers reconnect. The friendship between Harley and Cassiel is also great, as is Harley’s reconnection with her father. Oh, and Ryder and Wallace? Yes, please! I loved them! All of these relationships are layered and dynamic, and they offer a bit of humor, levity, romance, and hope in otherwise Earth-shattering situations.

I thought this was a great ending to the trilogy. It was fast-paced, action-packed, and there were many unexpected twists. I loved the characters and the romances, and even the parts that broke my heart a little. The world-building is also on point and continues to expand throughout Harley’s journey. And they go to some really harrowing, and some really fascinating, places! It’s such an engrossing conclusion to the trilogy, and the ending is everything I wanted and more.

Special thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for providing me a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

I'm a huge fan of this series and was excited to see how the trilogy ended but unfortunately book 3 wasn't up to par with the previous books.

I did like that it picked up right from that massive cliffhanger. But after that the story felt off, a bit choppy.

The hurtles that Harley had to go through were supposed to be super scary and hard but it felt like she blew right by them. Or maybe my creep factor has been way off and the background wasn't scary.

I did like the curveball when it came to the scrolls, that was cool but I felt like something was missed.

Overall, I think if the flow had been smoother, I would've enjoyed the final book more and gotten the necessary closure for the series.

“This is the stuff of Biblical legend.”

From the very beginning, Molly E. Lee’s Ember of Night series has been captivating and intense. Each book has expanded on the previous one.

Eighteen-year-old Harley Ward doesn’t know what easy is. Her whole life she has been physically, emotionally, and verbally abused by her father. The only bright side has been her eight-year-old sister, Ray, and her boss Nathan, who looks out for them as best he can. A few weeks before she turned eighteen, Harley’s life became unusual, to say the least. She met a guy named Draven and suddenly demons were after her blood. In Ember of Night and Shadow of Light, Harley fights for her life on multiple occasions and discovers who she really is. But it isn’t until Spark of Ash that she accepts her destiny and fights against all odds to save those she loves and the world itself.

Throughout this series, I’ve wanted to read/see things from Draven’s perspective. Finally, we as readers get that, with dual POVs from Draven and Harley throughout the book. Seeing the dual POVs shows just how much these two love and care for each other, as well as those people they have chosen to be their family.

Spark of Ash was everything and more of what I thought I was going to get. The story was intense, with Molly bringing out all kinds of emotions. There was happiness, sadness, anger, hope, frustration, and heartbreak. Honestly, there were many times when I felt tears in my eyes. I’ve loved all the books in the Ember of Nights series, but Spark of Ash is definitely the best.

Everyday Harley’s powers grow stronger and wilder, but now her younger sister Ray has been kidnapped. Her boyfriend, her mate, her one true love is being accused of taking Ray. Harley refuses to lose hope and finds strength and friends in the most unlikely of places.

A Spark of Ash: Ember of Night is lit! No seriously, if you thought books one and two were amazing, the final book in the trilogy is fire! I devoured this book faster than the first two in the series.

Perhaps, it’s Molly E Lee’s gripping writing and the fast pace. This book never stops moving and that’s part of its charm! Honestly, I completed A Spark of Ash in only two days. I LOVED this book!

And, if you want a new book boyfriend. I highly recommend the dreamy syphon, Draven. He and Harley are a beautiful couple!

If you like fated mates, demons, angel paranormal books and are ready for a twist, I recommend The Ember of Night trilogy. This series is perfect for fans of A Court of Roses.

Thank you so much to Entangled Teen and Netgalley for the gifted copies and for the amazing opportunity to read and review The Ember of Night trilogy.

This is part of my ABC challenge. I am glad that I finally finished this series.
Was I interested? No.
Did I remember what happened in the 2nd book? No.
Did I struggle with remembering the side characters and their importance&descriptions? Most definitely yes.
Am I sad about that? Yes.
From the beginning, I struggled with trying to remember what happened other than her living in the ather and them being mates. Everything else was a struggle. I got glimpses of various parts from book 2 but not the whole piece. I knew I should've read this book when I first got it. But honestly in my opinion, the fact that I couldn't remember what happened in the previous book(s), it just tells me that 1) I didn't really care for the series and 2) The series wasn't that good to be remembered. This book felt like it was dragging which made it boring. I'm a very imaginative person, but I couldn't not conjure up any images in my head throughout this whole book and that disappointed me the most. I'm just glad I pulled through and finished this series.

OMG OMG OMG! Spark of Ash is the must-read third book in Molly E. Lee's Ember of Night series. It is my favorite in the series.

From the very beginning, I was hooked. Reading each of the books in the series, it's literally impossible to not want Harley and Draven to get their happily ever after. Even though the beginning of this book started out hopeful I knew it wouldn't last too long.

Harley is tested when The Seven take Ray and Draven. Harley has to race against the clock to not only save her loved ones but save the world. It will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.

I give Spark of Ash all the stars. I loved this book so much. It was intense, full of twists and turns, and had the signature Harley and Draven passion. I really don't want this series to end because it's just so addicting. Molly E. Lee continues to shine with her amazing world-building and charming characters.

What a fantastic conclusion to the Ember of Night trilogy! This series has really come full circle. In book 1, we saw Harley just being introduced to this world and the previously hidden supernatural beings within it. Book 2 sees Harley really coming into her own and wrestling with who she is, and we also saw fantastic growth in her relationship with Draven. This third and final book takes all of that and rips it away from us, unceremoniously breaking our hearts and wondering what we did to deserve this. Kidding, it’s not that serious (it actually really is 😩😂). ⁣

SPARK OF ASH is action packed from the very beginning as Harley is on a quest to both rescue her sister and figure out how to “fix” Draven. In this book, we get to see Harley fully accept who she really is. She is a strong and badass main character, and even more so when she fully embraces her own supernatural side. She still has her merry band of acquaintances and friends who offer help in whatever ways they can, but this mission ultimately rests on Harley’s shoulders.⁣

My favorite part of this series still remains Harley’s steadfast loyalty to her sister and to those she loves, and she would move Heaven and Earth (and Hell) to save them all, especially Ray. I absolutely love their bond, and their relationship is the highlight of this series. And again, coming around full circle, all of the things that Harley has longed for in the very beginning finally seem more of a reality instead of just a dream. She’s had a tough go of it and I’m so happy to see her finally find a sense of peace and happiness. ⁣

All told, a fantastic conclusion to this trilogy, and one I highly recommend. 5 stars. Many thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Teen for the digital arc!⁣

Spark of Ash is the last book in the Ember of Night trilogy…and what a conclusion it was! This series has captivated me from the first sentence to the last. I’ve loved it all - the adventures, the romance, and the amazing bonds of friendship. There’s a lot of things I could focus on in this review but I’ll stick to the things I mentioned above!

First, the adventure. I enjoyed reading about Harley and her crew’s journey to find the Seven Scrolls. As usual, I was fascinated with all the new places we saw in the Ather. I always love seeing the different realms and the creatures that inhabit them! There was of course many twists and turns during the course of the race to find the scrolls and a few of them shocked me so much I had to take a break from reading to process them. But I’ll leave those a mystery.

Next, I’ll talk about the romance. Harley and Draven have my whole heart. I adore them so much. They have so much passion and devotion for each other it gives me butterflies. They prove that they can get through anything together and will do anything for each other. There was also some other relationships that developed during the course of the novel that I loved and didn’t know I needed until I was given them!

Finally, the friendships. Harley and her friends and family have such beautiful bonds with each other. I love their dynamic when they’re all together and some of their banter had me laughing out loud. We had a few unexpected pairings in the book (for me at least) and I was surprised at how fond I became of them. Changing course, I also had a sense of pride for the way Harley and the others handled obstacles and trials. I could see how much they’ve grown since the first book in the series. I love them all and I’m going to miss them now that the trilogy is over.

Overall, I enjoyed the final installment of this trilogy immensely! I can’t wait to see what Molly E. Lee writes next. Although I hope we’ll come back to this world sometime soon.

Thank you to Netgalley, Entangled, and Molly E. Lee for my ARC copy of Spark of Ash!

The first book grabbed me right off. The thing you have to accept is that eighteen year old Harley is the antichrist. Yea, the theology doesn't really make a lot of sense if you want to get picky, but if you can roll with that, then what you get is a balls-to-the-wall insanely fast-paced fantasy with blowout magic on every page, demon fights galore, but it's all stitched together with my catnip: friendship, found families, and unswerving loyalty.

I won't attempt a summary, as this is the last book in the series, and there is a lot going on. Harley is out to save her sister, and her beloved (who doesn't remember her) and, oh, incidentally, save the world. She's the badass of all badasses, and this book is just plain fun to read, especially with some heavy metal on the playlist. (Most relevant song: Linking Park's "When They Come for Me." But some late sixties Rolling Stones also works.)

⭐️ 3.75 ⭐️

Spark of Ash was an entertaining and action packed read. It is the final book in the Ember of Night series, so I would definitely recommend reading the prior two books in the series first. I would also suggest checking the content and trigger warnings before reading as well.

It is dual POVs of the main characters, Harley and Draven, which I loved as we hadn’t had that before in the series.

The plot was very fast paced, intense and action packed. Truly just an enjoyable story with amusing pop culture references.

However, there were several predictable moments and certain problems conveniently resolved just a bit too quickly. There was also a lot of repetition that did get quite annoying as well.

Harley’s character development and growth in this book and throughout the entire series was just amazing and really well written. I loved her journey and the devotion she had towards her found family.

The romance between Harley and Draven was also great. There were some slightly spicy moments between them that definitely made their connection stronger, which I loved.

I will say that my favorite part of this book was definitely all the side characters and their banter with each other. I was a bit sadden about a certain characters death but understood why it had to occur.

The last few chapters and ending were quite rushed and wrapped up just a bit to quickly in my opinion. I definitely felt like there could have been a bit more development and closure on certain plot points.

Overall, just an enjoyable read and a great conclusion to the series.

*sobs* I cannot believe we have reached the end. These characters have been living rent free in my head for so long, it is bittersweet to see the finale. And what a finale it was. Holy hell.

I love how the world and relationships developed throughout Harley's journey. It is exceptionally rich. From how we define family and love to questioning what is 'known'... there is so much to explore in this series. Harley is 'good' to her core and yet, would let the world burn to save those she loves most. That really resonated with me.

There are so many elements of this finale I want to share but also do not want to spoil this incredible story. Bonds are tested while other relationships grow and it was such a sight to behold. The banter, charter development and squad are all #goals.

I did not want to put this book down. Even when it broke my heart. This will be a trilogy I pick up again and again.

4.5 of 5

Recommend for fans of: non-stop action, twists & turns, Brigid Kemmerer, Tracy Wolff & Jennifer Armentrout, paranormal destruction, chosen one tropes, found family, strong heroines always up for a challenge, sisterhood, swoon worthy romance, soulmates, banter, and revenge.

*Thoughts*

Spark of Ash is the final installment in author Molly E. Lee's Ember of Night trilogy. This story picks up right where Shadow of Light left off. The story is told in Draven's and Harley's POVs. Harley has been though literal Hell over the first two books in this series. After traveling to the Ather, she found out that she's the daughter of the man who the devil is based on, and she may end up having a hand in destroying the world. After her little sister Ray, and her mate Draven are taken away from her by Aphian, she accepts her birthright and unlocks Rainier from his prison.

This book takes off where book two left off. While I did read book one of the series, I didn't read the second one, and that did cause more than a few holes when I picked up book three. So, these do need to be read in order.

Harley is just enjoying a few days calm with her soul mate, when he's suddenly pulled away by the Seven. With his memories removed, he kidnaps her younger sister to train her as a seer to serve the most powerful of the Seven. Harley is given a chance to save her sister, but must find the seven scrolls and give them to head of the Seven. But Harley has already accepted her destiny, unleashing not only her own unknown powers, but reviving her father's, the Devil's as well. Together with her friends, she mush find a way to stop the Seven, figure out if she can trust her father, and discover what her place in destiny truly is.

This is a quick-paced and easy read, which has something happening on every page. There is action, fight scenes, secrets, betrayal, family issues, romance, and much more. Harley is a no-nonsense character with amazing powers, who has grown into her position and is ready to take anyone on...even if it means she'll die trying. She protects those she loves fiercely and is holds life of anyone and anything dearly. She's a character to root for...may not have tons of depth, but she doesn't need it.

Romance is present but only in the beginning and grows again toward the end. This leaves Harley more than enough space to tackle the evil and learn to find her own place in things. So, action fans will enjoy this one as well as those who like a golden-romance, which by no means overpowers the tale.

Friendship is golden as is family. Despite Harley's immense powers, she can't go it alone and does incorporate the help of those around her. The relationships are inspiring and make the entire time fun to follow. But then, there is always a wonderful back and forth in the dialogue to keep humor and snark as high as the action and tension. Even when a couple holes appear in the plot or something comes across as a bit to easily solved, the read is simply enjoyable and entertaining. And that's more than enough. I received an ARC and enjoyed the fun ride.

I was looking forward to finishing this series since I enjoyed the first two. Unfortunately, this one did not work for me. Super disappointed!

It felt really choppy; jumping from one 'challenge' to the next -- all of which were too easily solved. I mean trying to find 7 scolls in one book ,which they just happened to know where they were all located without much trouble. Plausible? Not really.

The dialogue in the last two books was one of my favourite aspects, but in this one it felt like there was too much dialogue and some of the humour/light remarks just felt forced. Add to that the fact that this felt very reminiscent of the second novel, in the sense that Ray was once again taken and a lot of the plot revolved around saving her.

The 'mate' aspect was heavily played up in this one too, which I'm not sure how I feel about. Despite, having his own perspective Draven wasn't involved in the plot much. Cassian, however, was necessary to the plot and then well . . .that ending. How plausible is it that Draven would be saved twice in one series? Not sure I'm buying it. I just didnt feel emotionally invested this time.

On the whole, I would recommend this series. It is fun and fast-paced. I'm just dispointed this final book didn't live up to my expectations.

So after that cliffhanger in Book #2 with Draven and Ray. I had to pick up the book immediately! I will tell you that these books just keep getting better. The world building opened up as they searched for these scrolls and continued to fight this ahole Aphian. And Harley did what I would do she was adopting monster pets which sounded adorable and very helpful btw.

Draven is not himself the majority of the book so that's another challenge but the scenes of him falling for her all over again, be still my heart lol. I'm so easy.

You almost scared me at the end there wasn't that much time left and we still were missing a big part of the team but then some big $hi+ happens and I almost threw my book.

The ending was so sweet and just wrapped up nicely. Also loved that Draven's twin Ryder gets a romance tucked in there as well.

Thank you entangledteen and netgalley for the e-ARC for my honest and voluntary review.

I just can't leave a series unfinished. This series just wasn't my thing. I did not enjoy the writing style. The story telling wasn't terrible, I did enjoy reading about the different characters and the loyalty they have towards one another. The part I find problematic was how Harley was desperately portrayed as this bad ass girl who can handle whatever came her way and she is the leader that the books are building her up to be. And yet, at the end, Draven was the one who needed to "ground" her because her powers were too great. OK, no matter how this was meant to be interpreted, that Draven was just there for support, I just didn't see that as necessary. Why can't she have great power and is in control? I found that part very annoying.

I have loved every single moment of Draven and Harley's journey since I first started reading Ember of Night last year and that continues in this book and I can't wait to have the physical book in my hands.
For me this journey started with an excerpt included in Covet by Tracy Wolff, which prompted an immediate buy of Ember of Night, then I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to read an ARC of Shadow of Light and loved it, and now I had the same opportunity to read an ARC of Spark of Ash and I have loved it even more, so much that I have been in a book slump since finishing it and have struggled to get through my other books.

This is the conclusion of the trilogy and it was amazing. There's only one thing I would change but that would be spoilers and I promise that I won't do that. This is a fast paced conclusion that has massive repercussions across the world, lots of snarky banter between the characters and some incredible growth for the characters. 5 out of 5, highly recommend!

I love this series! Each book has been amazing and this one didn’t disappoint. Harley is such an amazing character. I love how strong she is and that she’s the reluctant hero. All the other characters are amazing too. Definitely one of my favorite lineups. I won’t say much more because if I go on anymore I’ll spoil the whole thing. Just go read it. You won’t be disappointed.

What a ride! Spark of Ash did not disappoint -- not that I expected anything less from Molly Lee. I don't cry very often, but there were several chapters that made me tear up. The ending was fantastic! I'm gonna miss the characters, but I can't wait to see what the author comes up with next!

Spark Of Ash is the third and final book in the Ember Of The Night series By Molly E Lee. I was absolutely thrilled when the ARC book was emailed to me. This series has been one of my favourites reads over the past few years. I am so sad to say goodbye to this epic fantasy  world and the characters. Molly couldn't have ended this series any better then she did, I mean seriously what a finale this read was.

" 𝙇𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙞𝙛 𝙄 𝙡𝙚𝙩 𝙢𝙮𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛 𝙗𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙤 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙮, 𝙄'𝙡𝙡 𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙞𝙩".

When you think Harley cant get anymore badass and just her strong and reckless kickass self, well she proves us all wrong. Even when things are a catastrophic end of the world kind her sarcasm is just hilarious. I was laughing so much with her smartass answers. With the seven taking her little sister Ray and controlling her soulmate Draven the most precious people to her. Now little bubbly Ray who always sees the bright side of everything I love her personality. She is such a cutie and also a little badass just like her sister, she is so adorable. The relationship and the sister bond she has with Harley is so adorable it melts my heart. With Draven under the control of the seven which ahhhhhh frustrated me so much, I was seriously so angry for them doing this to Draven, now if you read all my other reviews you all know Draven is my favourite character and when we got his Pov as well and Harley’s I literally screamed with excitement. But there is a way to destroy the seven and that's to find the seven scrolls, an ancient incantation made by the creator. With scrolls hidden Harley has her crews help, the closest thing to family she has, to face blood and dangerous battles and pushes them all to the limits. Without Ray and Draven to keep encouraging her to see the bright and positive side of things, can she face the darkness from taking her down.

"𝙒𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧," 𝙄 𝙨𝙖𝙮. "𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩."

I’ve absolutely fallen in love with Molly's characters, especially Harley’s crew. There are quite a few tear up and heartbreaking moments where I was just sobbing. Also it had such epic twists and turns and literally shouting out why. The ending was everything for this amazing fantasy series, and this has been a phenomenal and mind-blowing adventure which I will treasure forever. Awesome job Molly I can't wait to see what else you have planned for the future but I'm all for it.

Spark of Ash is book three in The Ember of Night Series. Each book becomes more intense and I am here for all the crazy. As this is the final in the series, I dove right in and Molly E. Lee has knocked it out of the park...again. In fact this is my favorite in the series.

The story starts out with Harley and her new crew looking for the scrolls to save Ray and Draven. The action is incredible and I love the family bond the Harley has created with her friends. And if Harley thinks that she just has the task of saving her family, she is wrong. She also has to save the world and time is running out. Will Harley be able to complete the tasks needed in order to save everything that she loves????

This is definitely my favorite of the series. The action was so intense that I actually had to put the book down at times. Molly Lee is an incredible author and she has a way of bringing you into the story and keeping you there. She is so descriptive that it is like a movie playing out within my head as I read. When an author can suck you into a story like that, you know it is a definite winner. I will read anything that Molly Lee writes. Thank you for an outstanding series and a wonderful conclusion.....maybe. This book gets 5 amazing stars!

Oh my god! I'm not crying you are! But seriously WOW what an emotional roller coaster this ride has been! This book was everything! Just when I think I couldn't love these character anymore I love them even more! And the ending was just so perfect! It was everything I wanted and it left an opening to continue the story but it also left it in a way to be the end. But I hope we get a spin-off on Ryder... Maybe? Molly looking at you!

Thank You NetGalley, Entangled Teen, and Molly for the eARC!!!
