Recently, I was introduced to one of Harrison Monarth’s books and was quickly moved to check out others. I don’t often post reviews but I wanted to take the time to do so here. It’s a shame that more people haven’t posted their insights on this book, ‘Breakthrough Communication’. If they had, I might have known about this book sooner. So please, allow me. First, let me acknowledge how awesome it is that this is available as an audiobook. While I’m an avid reader, I don’t often have the spare time I once did to devote to reading. As much as I prefer to get engrossed in the page, it’s nice to have the option to listen to it while I’m driving. We’re all busy, right? More importantly, I appreciate how clearly the content is presented to the reader as a 4-step program. It would be a little disappointing if a book about communication didn’t communicate well. I especially liked the section on ‘making meaning’ and the many ways to ‘get on the radar’ at work. This book follows up nicely the learning I took away from The Confident Speaker. Very helpful.
This book is very practical and useful. I’m much more self-aware at work and I think back to the four steps almost daily. It provided a lot of real-world examples that I can relate to in my own career. It also helped me look back at past situations and identify what I could have done differently. I feel much more confident when i deal with my clients! I honestly never thought my communication skills were that bad, but this book really opened my eyes and mind. The strategies Monarth discusses are actually useful, easy-to-understand and completely effective both professionally and personally. This book is definitely one of the most helpful books I've read!
The content of the book makes perfect sense in steps to ensure our agenda gets through through effective relationships, trust building and communication.
The examples discussed in this book are wide ranging from medieval times to Shakespeare to US presidents, giving a different perspective in terms of failure or success cases of breakthrough communication.
The book is worth re-reading and marking those parts relating to you or your current situation.
Very very good book, I actually listened to the audio version of it, while being in public transport. I want to do this once again, there is so much to learn. Being able to communicate better is being able to live a better life. I want to be able to remember what I have learnt from this book and implement successfully.
