Andres Miedoso is still afraid of everything as a grown-up, even after all his adventures with Desmond Cole. He lives in New York City with his family, and he remains best friends with Desmond but returns to Kersville only when he's needed.
“The cafeteria at Kersville Elementary seems too good to be true.”
Andres smells like monsters (“a little burny and a little sweet, just like an eraser that has just been used.) His pet ghost, Zax, notices it first. But where would he be close to monsters and not know it? Well, monsters love to eat and they love kids (but not to eat.) No wonder Andres smells like monster ... he always has such yummy food in his lunchbox and it must be attracting monsters.
So of course Andres and Desmond go in search of these monsters. But do they really want to find them?
This is a popular series with my students in 2nd - 4th grades.
There's something freaky going on with the school cafeteria and Andres wants to figure out what it is.
It is revealed that there are a bunch of monsters working behind the scenes making all the food that people eat at school. Andres and Desmond learn a lot about monsters in this one.
This series is just a fun chapter book series. I like the way that they have ghosts and monsters and sound scary, but in the end are more fun than scary.
Eliot: (spoilers) I liked when Mrs. Tray lived in the haunted house with lots of gooey and yucky monsters that eat bad food. I think Desmond Cole is a good mystery solver. It was five stars.
My 5 year giggles at many moments in these books. They have become the new household favorite. There was a scene at the end, that I think scared him just a bit too much, but he says he loves it.
