I love Romance stories where the heroine returns to her old home outside the country and reunites with the love of her life (have read this trope in "Forbidden Fire, Take What You Want,A Reason for Being- The Wade Dynasty)in this case its the strongly independent Shari Sutherland who had run away from home to go to college and comes back three years later to be by her sick mother`s side.In other books there has always been this love-hate relationships between the MC´s,but the relationship Shari has with her very steadfast and sexy older step-brother Whit Lancaster was so touching and warm all over.It was obvious how close they were with each other and always had been and there had never been any resentment between them. That was a breath of fresh air!

But the tension arises when Shari becomes sexually aware of him and it really explodes when Whit finally confesses to wanting her and that he cannot be her brother anymore and he insists on being her husband. It breaks her heart that she has lost the brother she always depended on-and she stubbornly fights his claim over her throughout the story!

I love this book all over-it was so entertaining and so sexy in how Whit had always had this one-sided love for her and knew she was the love of his life even before she ran away.I loved his fierce personality and how he never wanted to slacken the spirit inside Shari-without it she would have been empty and he appreciated her for who she is!The scene where he out loud announces to his grandfather that Shari will become his wife was hilarious!I feel i must check out more books by Janet Dailey, she is a damn good writer!

This is an oldie from 1981. The H is the h’s stepbrother. He is quite besotted and determined to make her see him as the man he is and marry her:

- “I can’t pretend anymore that I don’t want you in the way that a man wants a woman.”

Finally a h with black hair again. I find it annoying that at least 95% of the h’s are blondes. It’s just always the same..

The writers of the old days like Janet Dailey were excellent in writing love, romance and chemistry between H and h without getting the h knocked up by a H she barely knows. They don’t have sex, yet you can feel he desires and loves her.

Shari is a stubborn girl who left her home to go to college against her family's request. and 3 years later she comes back to spend the holiday with her friends in the summer's house of the family which she thoughts it'll be nobody there but to her luck she found that her half brother was following her steps and he ran away from the house too.so the big brother interrupts who's her stepbrother .I really like the strong personality of the H .how he was patient with h 😍 she's a stubborn girl but the H after their real first kiss he made it clear to her that he will not be her brother anymore and he will prefer be her lover and her husband. I love his way with her .he made her aware of his presence and how much she's attracted to him and finally how much she's in love with him. it's really funny how he insists about marriage and the scene about the engagement's ring 😂 it was really cute and funny .I enjoyed reading this book 😍 Thank you Janet Dailey

A rather superior hero (33) who is step-brother to the heroine (21) and has loved her a long time.
3 1/2 stars as I did not like how they all manipulated the heroine into quitting university- especially the needy mother. I liked that the hero was hard working, not a player, was besotted with the heroine and had that old school smoking in bed vibe going on, topless, whilst the heroine comes to chat. It was a bit brief though and could have done with more depth. She was a bit of a brat, but not surprising as once she was home, she had no freedom anymore.

I normally enjoy step sibling romance...when done right. This one was too icky for me. They were too touchy even before the romance started. I found their early relationship bordering incest. Not only because they grew up together but I’m sure they were raised as siblings too. So to see them all over each other like it was the most normal thing to do was kind of disturbing. I know the heroine knows how to show brotherly love just fine without being all over him, hence the way she treats her half brother is the normal brother-sister relationship but when it came to the hero she must be all clingy. With or without blood, no brother & sister should be that touchy unless they were fine tabooing. Which I think they were tabooing, in a way, so thank the gods that they aren’t blood related.

I can enjoy the step-sibling romance trope where the couple in question have only met as adults, or spent very little time as members of a blended family, but this couple were raised as siblings regardless of what the MMC says - he was 12 and the MFC was 1 when their parents married. When he's unable to hide his lust any longer, the MFC's initial reaction is what one would expect - she's repelled by the thought of incest - but that's quickly tossed away, along with common sense and propriety, thanks to Treacherous Body Syndrome. When he tells her she's going to marry him, her objection is not the whole, I don't know, incest thing but rather that he's ordering her, not asking. (!) I found the MMC to be overbearing and arrogant, with little consideration for her feelings, giving her a whole week (so generous!) to "adjust" and accept the idea of her brother being her lover. "There's nothing sinful about wanting me", he says ... he made my skin crawl.

Great story

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The pace was perfect. There was a ton of chemistry between the main characters. There was even a bit of mystery surrounding the engagement ring. There was no OW or other nefarious interlopers. I would have enjoyed more sexy times but overall I have few complaints. 4.5 stars

Trying to read this again…and DNF 80% this time. 😂

This is a super slow burn book.
The first kiss happens at around 60%, where the H is finally trying to show the h that is feelings aren’t brotherly. Before this, you couldn’t even tell you’re reading a romance novel.

Boring book.🤷🏻‍♀️

——————-

Going into my DNF (read 40% of the book).

This was one of those step-sibs falling-in-love stories, but only told from the h's PoV (at least til 40% of the book). Nothing seemed to happen... was boring.

h had brown hair and green eyes. Beautiful.
H - I don't remember what he looked like but he was a gorg alpha, was in charge of their wealth & family, and they knew each other since she was a baby! Kinda icky considering how they were raised together... The hero was 12 years older than the h.

Wish I could've seen the H's PoV, might've been an interesting read...

Three years after Shari escaped from the Lancaster family patriarchs, she returned home at the news of her mother's stroke. The reunion with her stepbrother, Whit Lancaster, brought the unexpected revelation that his feelings were far from brotherly.

Could their love for each other grow amid the Lancaster family tradition of male superiority?

Could Whit ever see her as a young woman to be loved rather than ruled?
