This book is FUNNY! I purchased the paperback and was happy to find it a real page turner. Then, just as I was really getting into the story and getting to know the characters, I lost my book!!! Knowing that it would resurface somewhere eventually, I didn’t want to buy another physical book, so I opted for the audio book. This book was already a laugh out loud funny story, but now with the amazingly animated narration, it came to life in a way that really did justice to the story. The accents were gold! If you have even the vaguest interest in the sport of cycling then this book is a must read. If you are like me and barely know one end of the bike from the other, please do not let that put you off. I have zero interest in cycling and I could not put this book down! When it comes to the slob’s love life, I could not stop laughing - believable, and hilarious! Highly recommended reading!
I rarely read fiction books but this story was so encapsulating. I am not a huge cycling fan either but it really didn’t matter as the narrative was secondary to the inspirational message that was held within, and in such a humorous manner too! Brad’s character was so “real” with many of the human frailty character traits and vulnerabilities seen in him that most of us have to manage at one time or another, His story could therefore be a reminder to the reader to never ever give up as you never know what unexpected opportunities & unlimited potentials are out there for us. For me personally, there was clearly a spiritual message but it was very subtle and spoke more on sub-conscious level. Thus, I believe it would appeal to a wider audience/readership.
This book is a light hearted, poignant, easy read – full of humour and banter. There is also a message behind Brad’s adventure with the Russian cycling team – this relates to the importance of team work and friendship. Brad displays courage and commitment despite his “slob” persona, and we see him gradually harness his inner strength with the power of meditation and guidance from his “guru”. The inner strength converts to physical prowess on the tour, and Brad moves gradually from being a slob to actually caring about his team and his role in the team. This is a fun read with the value of self-respect, bravery and the importance of being your own person being illustrated through Brad’s journey.
This is such a delightful read, with the author taking a canny approach to layering the key messages he wants to share. The writing flows smoothly and at a swift clip, nicely carrying the protagonist, Brad, and his quest to be a ‘slob’ while following a dream – in his own casual way! Weaving through Brad’s journey is his desire and belief of minimum effort for maximum gain, which goes against the grain of what mainstream society and media propagate, faces challenges, but he remains true to his core. The characters are all easy to connect to, as we learn about their frailties, challenges, deep motivations, and egotistical bents. This is a well-constructed story, with plenty of wit and wisdom and a unique take on how mind over matter can lead us to places we never expected.
I've just finished reading this book and really enjoyed that way that I was drawn in by the main character, an everyday hero, and I also loved the little gems thrown in about meditation. This book is very readable and will appeal to a broad audience of cycling enthusiasts, those who enjoy romance, people who are interested in self-development, those who enjoy tales of everyday adventures, as well as those who enjoy a relaxing, easy read with a few laughs thrown in. I like how the reader can take from the book what they choose. Personally, I liked the way I was constantly wondering if the main character would 'make it' and was glad that this was only revealed at the end of the story.
I absolutely loved reading this book!! Usually I find it hard to read books but I loved this one so much, I didn’t want to put down!!
I loved all of the metaphors, deeper meanings and also the humour, fun and entertainment! It was a fusion of so many things and I loved that spirituality was also a big focus in the book. There were many beautiful reminders for me and I also felt really calm and present whilst reading the book.
A great read! Sharp but approachable and full of warmth and humour, the Slob's Guide wittily and thoughtfully carries us on the protagonist's journey of finding a truer and deeper version of himself, while at the same time showing how we might pursue deeper and more rewarding experience in our own lives. Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed reading this book & was sorry to see the end of the story. I thought the story was really good. There is much esoteric meaning and learnings for all who read the book. The story addresses those inner negative thoughts & voices we can subject ourselves too. I loved the way Brad slowly changes & eventually recognises his true self.
The author is a gifted storyteller & importantly a leader in helping others realise their full potential.
For those just beginning their journey into 'truth, energy & change' seeing life differently, your book Jeremy leaves the seeds of a whole new discovery.
What a great read! This book had me from the first page to the last. Well written and easy to read. A great story about finding your purpose. A story about living your own life, not living a life that others want you to have. A must read!
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a real page turner, and fun to accompany Brad on his journey searching for the perfect job, and trying not make any commitments along the way. I also enjoyed the sprinkling of cycling history through the book too.
An easy and fun read. The story and writing style are lighthearted, real and cheeky. I loved the different take on the ‘powers’ of meditative energy. I’m here for Brad and his qi/chocolate croissant fuelled adventures.
This is one of the funniest books I have read. Beautifully written. Full of deeper themes. I never expected to enjoy it so much. I gobbled it up in a day and it has been on my mind ever since.
