Hero

The long-anticipated novel in the Mistress & Master of Restraint series. The sole reason eleven novels were taken off-sale, only to endure a four-year journey to rewrite the entire series from scratch, creating a solid foundation to support the 1000-page tome.

In a city filled with hedonists, they need a Hero– Dominion, New York needs two.

Katya Waters and Caleb Green learn two facts: Not all heroes wear capes, and evil lurks within your nearest and dearest.

Caleb Green returns to Dominion after seventeen years in the military, only to realize he was safer in a warzone than in his hometown. All he’s ever wanted was to settle down with the fiery redhead from his vision, only to discover she’s not only already married to his childhood friend, but in serious danger from all directions. Taking on the role of protector, Caleb tries to keep the nexus safe from the storm itself.

Katya Waters wasn’t raised in Dominion, but soon she discovers her ties run deeper than those who saw her as an interloper. Enemies are hidden beneath the guise of friend and family, while frenemies turn into the strongest allies. Discarded and broken, Katya tries to reform herself into the person she was always destined to become. The editor finds it hilariously ironic how she ends up starring in a real-life version of The Bodyguard, when everyone in Dominion felt she wasn’t important enough to treat with dignity or respect.

After waiting five years, readers demand answers, and Erica Chilson delivers more than they could possibly imagine.

About the author

Erica Chilson

Erica Chilson does not write in the 3rd person, wanting her readers to be her characters. Therefore, writing a bio about herself, is uncomfortable in the extreme.

Born, raised, and here to stay, the Wicked Writer is a stump-jumper, a ridge-runner. Hailing from North Central Pennsylvania, directly on the New York State border; she loves the changes in seasons, the humid air, all the mountainous forest, and the gloomy atmosphere.

Introverted, but not socially awkward, Erica prides herself on thinking first and filtering her speech. There are days she doesn’t speak at all. If it wasn’t for the fact that she lives with her parents, giving her a sense of reality, she would be a hermit, where the delivery man finds her months after expiration.

Reading was an escape, a way to leave a not-so pleasant reality behind. Reading lent Erica the courage she gathered from the characters between the pages to long for a different life. Writing was an instrument of change, evolving Erica into the woman she is today- a better, more mature, more at peace thinker.

Erica has a wicked mind, one she pours out into her creations. Her filter doesn’t allow all of it to erupt, much to her relief. Sarcastic, with a very dark, perverse sense of humor, Erica puts a bit of herself into every character she writes.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

Four days after finishing this chunky masterpiece, I am still suffering from a book hangover. Anything else I read just seems like the puffiest nonsense, and just pales into nothingness ... you have been warned!

This is the thirteenth book in the series, and Chilson is not wrong when she promises that this will deliver a lot of the answers which have been swirling around the devoted readers' heads ... actually it answered so much more than that - and it also fundamentally changed my view of ... (now I can't tell you that, can I?) You do absolutely have to read more of the series to get any sense of why this is such a key part of the whole - but if I think about it, if you have never read one, this would be a total brain explosion of the highest order! I found it more cerebral than some of the earlier books, really giving you the insight behind the actions, the rationale for some of the wildest behaviour, and the key to some of the characters. I loved it, every single word.

It is undoubtedly a book which has both layers and levels; and there is a drama playing out within a saga reveal, alongside a heart-warming romance. We enjoy seeing all our favourite players in the game, and uncover more of the good and the bad of Dominion. I absolutely loved finally getting the right measure of Katya, and Caleb was a complete revelation, his absence at war giving him a fresh perspective on the tribe to which he returns. I will not say more, as you need the story to play out and affect your preconceptions, not my view of the situation. I have no fear that you will be amazed, amused, angry, delighted and most definitely entertained.

Just one piece of advice - If you pick this up on release, then may I respectfully suggest that you actually start reading it on Dec 26th, rather than have all those guests to have to hide from on Christmas day itself. If you have the luxury of being alone, then this will keep you entertained for the whole of the holiday season.

Thank you Erica Chilson for another mind-bending delight.

What a ride for my mind...

This story was worth the wait. The hints of who was messing with our beloved heros and heroines is revealed.
Besides the weaving of this plot with yhe major plotline of the whole series we get Kat's and Caleb's HEA. Their love story was told in equal parts of healing on both sides but became the merging of Best Friends..
The twists of the sub plots will leave you breathless and we have a beautiful friendships finally unfold for Kat.
We finally meet Kat's avenging angel of a father Max. Not to mention the familial relationships that get revealed and established.
This work really touched my heart but kept my mind working thinking and putting the puzzle pieces together. I did not want to put it down. I read it straight through but took little breaks because it was Christmas and needed to take care of the fam...but the pull was dtrong and i came back and finished it.
I believe you will not be disappointed maybe a little shocked by the ending but i do not want to give that away. Read the book for yourself.

Hero

Absolutely fantastic the highs and lows twists and turns
As this conclusion to Dominions troubles the reveal of who's behind all the attacks .Erica has absolutely nailed it she must be emotionally drained because I certainly am.

After a year wait, I was left wanting more. The past reviewed, details added and explained, and more relatives then anyone would want. The Hero was well deserved and the Villain, unexpected. What else keeps a read in your hands?

I waited to write this review for a long time, too long. I will try my hardest to keep this review relevant to those who read it.

Light Spoilers from previous books ahead.

This story takes place starting about 20% into Integrated. We know from Faithless that there is an unknown party that is playing the MDJ family members against each other. We know that Faith got the idea to just get everyone together and get all the secrets out. We didn’t see that happen in Integrated. It was glossed over. This book takes place from Christmas Eve all the way through to the following year. It goes all up to where Integrated ends and then a bit further. So you have to have read all the previous books to understand.

Now, you might be wondering if this book is a rehash of Kaleb’s life in the Marines (an understandable thought given the title), but it isn’t. Not at all. It is also not what you think you may know from previous books. Like John Snow, YOU KNOW NOTHING. Remember that these books are first person POV. So we don’t know what is going on in places the characters aren’t at. In integrated, we only saw through Ezra’s eyes. Even the parts about Katya were all with Ezra as the viewer. So keep that in mind.

Hero is unique in that it is dual first person POV. Caleb and Katya. What Katya showed Ezra was what Katya wanted Ezra to know. What Katya and Ava showed the world was what Katya and Ava (Katya and Ezra’s daughter) wanted the world to know. What Katya and Caleb showed everyone was what they wanted them to all see. The idea that you really never know what someone is like behind closed doors is never more true than here. Remember, the newest story arc is about finding out who is causing problems for those family members in MDJ.

Wil and Caleb have their own history that needs to be worked on, while Syn and Katya get to know each other in this book more than ever before.

Finally, I have to applaud Erica for bringing Syn further in this book than any other in the past. We get to see Syn as she would have been if she hadn’t been forced to grow up so damn fast. Syn at one point becomes happy, curious, has her guard down, and is given to speaking with that twang that Wil all but beat out of her. It’s hard to explain but what she did but she took Syn back to the point in time where she was still innocent, and grew her up from there. No there isn't a major time-travel scene, Syn just finally got over all the hurt. Syn’s natural curiosity, innocence and demanding ways were so endearing. It takes the book to get there, but she gets there. Oh, Syn still kicks ass and is still the sharpest blade in the room, but she softens a bit. I loved that.

There are so many nuanced scenes, thought provoking ideas, scenes that made me laugh out loud, scenes that made me cheer, and scenes that had me grabbing the tissues. This book is a must read.

Ok, that was my review. I could have spent hours more writing it, but I had to stop somewhere. Just read the series if you haven’t, read the book if you have read the series. Erica Chilson is a writer that speaks to the heart and soul of the reader. She deserves your attention.

As a fan of this series, this was a much anticipated read. I was absolutely not disappointed!
Katya Waters has been through the wringer. Life has dealt her more than her fair share of nasty and she knows it's time for some self preservation.
Caleb Green has been living an eventuality different life as a marine. Coming back to "normal" society has left him reeling and trying to figure out where he fits. All he knows gotte sure, is that one redheaded ball of emotions has him drawn like a moth to flame.
Life in Dominion is NEVER just that simple though, and both Katya and Caleb have battles from all sides to be fought before they can focus on themselves. Can they help one another find what they need, or will this break them once and for all?
Overall, this book sent me on an absolute emotional roller coaster. I was ready to throw my kindle, laughing my behind off, feeling warm and fuzzy, and crying my freaking eyes out. It was exactly what I want in a book and Erica Chilson didn't let me down. It is a firecracker full of huge developments for the series and beloved characters. It's long, but so hard to set down, even for a minute. I will be anticipating the next book with just as much enthusiasm as I did this one!
