Now for something a little different!
I do enjoy graphic novels a lot. I try and fit one volume in each week. Usually I am reading the less mainstream titles (Image). I am not sure I have ever really read a title that would be considered from the superhero universe.
My experience with the superhero comic genre is mainly the movies. While I do enjoy those, in doing a little online research it seems like if you really want to get into the storylines, there are hundreds of different titles going back decades with new characters introduced, old characters killed off, affiliations changes, the person behind the mask changing from time to time, etc. Catching up on all that with printed material could take years. The movies seem to do a pretty good job summarizing the key points for a person with casual superhero comic interest.
Enter Deadpool
I didn’t know much about Deadpool until the Ryan Reynolds movie came out a few years ago. It seemed like while DP is a comic fan favorite, is storylines are so irreverent, odd, and out of line with the other titles, Hollywood was not sure how it would translate to the big screen with the other more serious titles. Well, as I am sure a lot of you know, it translated quite well! I have enjoyed both the first and second movies and figured that I might as well make my first foray into the superhero titles be a Deadpool collection.
I was not disappointed!
Sure, there was some backstory that I was missing by not having read the other titles, but since the storyline is way out there and irreverent, it didn’t really matter. In fact, even when things didn’t make sense, suddenly characters showed up, etc. I had no expectations so I just rolled with it. It was like reading a stand-up comedy routine with comic book fighting in the middle of it. Did it end up having a really cohesive story? Nope. Can I tell if what Deadpool was doing was good or bad? Not really. I just sat back and enjoyed the ride!
Aw, look – Deadpool is smitten with Black Widow!
I see there are more volumes of “The Complete Collection” – doesn’t that make it a misnomer if there are MORE volumes designated “complete”? That is the perfect oddity for a character like Deadpool! I will look forward to checking more of his escapades out in the future.

So, with a grand-sounding title like Deadpool: The Complete Collection, Volume 1 (which is sort of a ridiculous title, or at least a misnomer, as there are additionally similar-sized volumes 2, 3, and 4 in this series), a reader might conceivably think this mammoth (400+ pages!) graphic novel is the great or definitive edition featuring the smart-ass mercenary character. I thought it was often only merely good, and it was not helped by the opening 'Deadpool vs. Wolverine' story that just seemed to drag on waaaaay too long. Much better was the subsequent madcap tale involving the foiling of a Skrull invasion of Earth, and then a third plot that defies easy description here but includes the unexpected but welcome return of Deadpool's bumbling but still well-meaning 'pal' Bob the HYDRA agent. The finale, like the initial story, seems bulkier or more padded than it needs to be, but it had its share of the expected amusingly quippy or quirky moments like the dialogue exchange I included above.

I was hoping for more of a continuous cycle here but in fact this is a random scattering of Deadpool appearances in other superhero storylines. Interesting, but not essential.

Watched Deadpool & Wolverine tonight and it kicked off a massive hyperfixation with the funniest, most anti-Marvel, hero there is! 🥲🥰
In this collection, Deadpool faces off with Wolverine (glad it opened with that one!), the shape-shifting Skrulls, some vampire zombies, and Norman Osborn (my SpiderMan fan-heart is singing, lmao)

Daniel Way and a collection of maximum effort talented illustrators provides this collection of early Deadpool gems.
Fans of the Marvel films will see the origins of several scenes from the films and I liked how Marvel’s original books were even more dark than the big screen.

What we have here is a 400 page plus exploration of Wade Wilson’s character and his interaction with other mercenaries and heroes / villains. One aspect of this anthology that stood out for me was the no holds barred throw down that is Deadpool. In D&D parlance, he is Chaotic Evil, and while Ryan Reynolds charismatically eschews any pretense of heroism in the films, we really feel the Joker like cultivated recklessness that defines this character.
BTW, I’ve always thought chaotic evil is the best alignment to play in D&D since you can do anything. Your guy can act lawful good through the whole campaign and then only show his true nefarious colors in the ultimate and inevitable betrayal.
Kudos to Way for not trying to make Wade as a complicated hero with a heart of gold. Nope, Deadpool is bad and is fun as hell to watch.

I am not a huge superhero fan, so this snarky, clearly insane antihero is definitely the man for me!
Here's a good introduction to this unique character, the man who plays so well with others. We learn his origin story, and laugh along as he attempts to take out Wolverine, then battles zombies, land sharks, and Hawkeye. The only story I wasn't wild about was the Thunderbolts arc - too much action, not enough trash-talk.
I shall be requiring more of this guy's shenanigans. Pronto.

"HE'S THE MARVEL UNIVERSE'S MERC WITH A MOUTH! AS QUICK WITH A PISTOL AS HE IS WITH A ONE-LINER!"Wow...this was one hell of a ride. From invading a skrull warship to fighting off a horde of zombies ruled by some plastic surgeon in a haunted castle (it's that mental..yes) This was absolutely crazy, action packed, funny and ridiculous because that's Deadpool! Not to mention all the awesome characters you'lol come across in this collection!
The book starts off with Wolverine origins #21-25 which was ok and because it was only ok it was bad. Deadpool has a somewhat epic fight with wolverine but it just was not interesting at all or even funny. I feel like it was just thrown in there..just a random fight with wolverine. I just didn't like it.
But Deadpool #1-12 was great! Every story was insane and just really fun. I wont go through the issues as I feel it's best to go into this not knowing what to expect because that's the way it is with Deadpool! Art is great and Daniel way writes Deadpool perfectly!

This collects Wolverine Origins, where Logan and Wade go at each other for nearly 5 issues straight before we get to a point. The art by Steve Dillon I just can't unsee Preacher now...Logan looks like Jesse Custer...so does Daken, and so does Bucky...only Wade looks different. I'm not a fan of Wade being unmasked for so long...kinda defeats the point.
I did like the origins storyline but this felt forced, since Daniel Way wrote this and also Deadpool...kinda a really long cameo advertising the Deadpool book.
I'd also already read the Thunderbolts storyline, but the regular Deadpool stuff added some understanding...like how Norman Osborn actually rose to power on the back of Wade actually having a very successful mission against the Skrulls...
The Deadpool itself was the best part, closer to 4 stars at some points, funny in places, but maybe trying too hard in others?
Far better than later stuff I read in volume 3.

By no means a great and deep work of literature, this volume of Deadpool is nonetheless an enjoyable whirlwind of violence and humor.
Unfortunately, like many other comics volumes, it's not a story in itself, but a collection of stories picked from other places, so that Deadpool is hunting down Wolverine in the first, then stopping a skrull invasion, then facing off a dark version of the Avengers without much context as to *why* these things are happening.
But even so, you can get the gist of the situation from what you see on the page and enjoy it for the quick bam-boom-bang plus dark humor that it is.

Great light-hearted, bloody entertainment. Dragged down a wee tad by a Thunderbolts x-over. Love the Thunderbolts. And Ghost is on that team. He's one of my favorite villains. He ought to have his own magazine. But the creative team on TBolts is just not as snappy as the creative team on Deadpool.
Love this period of Marvel. Post-Secret Invasion. Dark Avengers! Dark Reign! All that ended far too soon. Wish it had gone on a bit longer. Loved the stories we were getting out of it.
This is one of the best Deadpool collections I've read. I adore Paco Medina! I love Carlo Barberi! So, off to Vol. 2. I hope it's as good as this one! Daniel Way. I'm not too familiar with his work. He's pretty good here. Very amusing.

So, I've got a character in something I'm writing that's really into comic books. Like, he's the guy that's spouting off references. So, obviously, I've been researching things so that he can be spouting off references, and then I started to get really interested and long story short I decided that since I decided this guy's favorite was Deadpool, I'd just start with Deadpool. So I just bought the first thing that popped up on Amazon, and wow am I glad I did because this was just so fun .
This volume was just - God, I don't even know how to describe why I enjoyed this so much. All I'm saying is that I'm really glad I did decide to start with this guy, because he is funny. I mean, I know I've seen the occasional picture on Tumblr and chuckled a little, but I didn't realize that I'd enjoy myself reading this so much, I guess.
But I did really enjoy this. And I mean, I know next to nothing about comic books. Like, I've seen the first Avengers movie and then Iron Man 2, and other than that, I knew basically nothing. And I still really, really loved it. There were some people that showed up that I sort of just had to guess at who they were, but, eh. It's good. Either way. It was fun.

So I watched Deadpool and Wolverine when it was released and started reading this book after that and what do you know this starts with a fight between these two and it was fun. It was full of action, madness, carnage, and fun again. This was my first full-size Deadpool comic and I enjoyed it the art was good all through and the story follows a continuity through multiple different comic series and all was fine and I enjoyed my time with it. I am enjoying my Kindle Unlimited subscription and have slowed down a bit as the tablet has gotten a little older and I have also read a few normal books on it along with mangas and graphic novels. So to that end gotta Keep on Reading.
I have always loved comics, and I have I can. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and hope always to love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.

Come on! This is Deadpool! Of course it’s going to be awesome! :D I’ve only seen the movie, which I LOVED, so the comics in this collection make for a great read for me. Now I want to read all Marvel comics. I know that’s an impossible task. There are so many! But maybe some day.
Anyway, the separate storylines are great with lots of Deadpool humor and I love the artwork. I don’t know what else to say other than I will be moving on to Vol 2 now. Thankyouverymuch.

I'm not a comic book fan, generally, so I'm surprised that I stumbled into Deadpool. But I can't help it... Deadpool is awesome. He takes the art of superhero quipping and raises it to an art form, slinging puns and sometimes injuring himself (or dying) simply to make a punchline work better
These are fun, manic, sometimes psychedelic vignettes in a world that always needs to be dragged down from its self-importance. The comic book superhero world is insane, and it's nice to have someone that truly reflects that

Deadpool is one of the greatest comic book characters ever made. Once I started reading this it was hard for me to stop. This comic put a bunch of different Deadpool stories together into one comic. This was a good read(zing), with Deadpools great puns and jokes it made it all the more interesting to read. I would recommend this comic to everyone.

This was fun and violent but I feel like it was just too simple. The internal voices just felt like it gave Way a reason or another character ( deadpool himself) to throw jokes around with. Being my first Deadpool novel I get the feeling that he doesn't have an large story arc. Just a bunch of smaller missions that get caught up in other characters issues.

Daniel Way’s Deadpool volume 1 contextualizes Deadpool’s roles in Secret Invasion and Dark Reign, making this an excellent read for fans of Deadpool during his meme era while and enriching the continuity of these stories. The opening Wolverine story is the closest to surface-level, though even that unveils layers of complexity the further one reads.

Though I love comics and read them a lot, most of what I know about Deadpool is from the movie.
So I grabbed this collection to see how Deadpool is, in the comics.
I enjoyed it, and he is a lot like he is portrayed in the film.
This is a funny, if violent collection.
