The forefather and patriarch you thought you knew. After the Great Flood, the giant king Nimrod builds the Tower of Babel and unites the world in rebellion against the Creator. He seeks to achieve godhood as world potentate and bring in the pantheon of gods to rule with him. But God has other plans. He causes the confusion of languages and disperses Nimrod's kingdom to the four corners of the earth, allotting the nations under the authority of pagan deities. He then chooses a simple nomad Abram as next in the line of the seed of Promise. But Nimrod is not dead. He sets out on a course of revenge to find Abram and kill him in order to thwart God’s plan of creating a people for his own inheritance. As Nimrod’s quest drives him deeper into madness, the stakes rise. The land which Abram is being given is Canaan, where the goddess Ashtart is carrying out her own plans of breeding the seed of the Serpent. The War of the Seed is rising. Chronicles of the Nephilim is written in the mythic genre of The Lord of the Rings and Narnia, blending fantasy and mythopoeia with history to retell the Biblical narrative with a fresh perspective, while staying true to the original spirit of the story.

To be honest, the quality of this series is two stars. I’m also really not a fan of how modern it reads. The only reason they’re getting three stars is the research shown at the end of the books.

I would have given this book more stars but he is too graphic in his sexual acts descriptions. Yes, we get it, everyone was extremely sinful and gross but please don't put word images into our heads by telling us what they were doing. It was incredibly unnecessary and totally detracts from the story... Which I really liked; luckily for him, the overall story is engaging enough to keep me reading but barely. Seriously, this is not for anyone under 18 and I can only hope the next books are not so graphic in the sex arena lest I not be able to finish the series which I really want to do because again, the story is really cool.

I gave this book 3 stars instead of 4 because while it was very entertaining & well written like the others in the series, it at times was just too graphic. I get that the author needed to explain the depravity of the times, which were obscene (it is partly telling the story of Sodom & Gommorah) but I do not need to hear that "Marduk took his arm out of Enki's anus"... There was a point in the book where for after about 30 minutes of reading I realized that my face had been scrunched up in disgust that I was concerned it was going to freeze that way lol. The people in that time were completely depraved it just made me feel like I needed to take multiple showers. But thankfully the author didn't give long drawn out play by plays of the acts, but seriously this book is for sure rated R. The disturbing mentions of bestiality, incest, rape (of ALL kinds- seriously how terrifying must it have been to be a woman back then and also as in Abram's case, the husband of a woman that men constantly wanted to abduct & rape?!), and also the extremely graphic & violent battle scenes were very hard to read at times... But I'm still going to read the next book, though if it's as bad as this one I probably won't finish it.

Fantastic read

The Author is amazing and explains his actions in the back of the book. I have read each book so far and I have truly enjoyed each. But, when you read these books PLEASE make sure you read his notes, etc. Do not let these books take place of your reading and studying the Bible. But, these books can enlighten you on factual information that you can learn to fill in the blanks of the Bible.

By far the best in the series so far. if you ever read these, be sure to read the appendices at the end of each book to learn about how realistic these novels may be. Fascinating.

I’m giving it four stars because I found some typos, sometimes the sentences were short, the romance was a tad cheesy, and the sexual perversion was too detailed.

I get that he was trying to focus on the depravity of man, but sometimes it was just too much. I know the Bible speaks of abominable acts, but only with as much detail as we need. This book gave us way too much detail to where I was often disgusted and the word images were too detailed.

However, I get what he was trying to do. He was trying to make us utterly disgusted so we would understand that God was never unjust when he destroyed the wicked who perverted His good creations.

I did overall enjoy the storyline, like how the Watchers built their kingdoms. And how they fell! I thought it was interesting how often he described the Watcher’s plans as similar to the Left and Woke groups. How Sodom wanted to be the city of love and tolerance, but would tolerate nothing. How the public school brainwashes kids, how the government steals from the hard working citizens, and how the nuclear family unit is under attack. I always find it interesting that no evil is a new evil.

Overall, a lot of fun story, just a bit too sexually explicit in a perverse way.

Very disappointed

I started reading this series to get a different, but still biblical view on past events. The earlier books were very entertaining. This one was entertaining, but too much sex and vulgarity. Also I am growing bored with the repeated attempts at pushing the liberal talking points throughout this series. Taking quotes directly from the DNC talking points. "Never let a good crisis go to waste", the one percent living in the backs of the 99%. I may not finish the series of this gets worse. I read to enjoy and learn , not be brainwashed.

This is another great addition to The Chronicles of The Nephilim series, but in my opinion, Godawa goes a little too far describing the sexual sins of some of the characters. I mean, is it really necessary to read that Semiramus erotically groaned as her infant suckled at her breast or that "Marduk took his arm out of Enki's anus". I get that Godawa wanted to emphasize the depravity of the fallen Watchers and the pagans, but the images planted in the reader's minds go a little too far at times and borders on X-rating. Other than that, it has an overall engaging story.

I don’t recommend this book in the series. Skip it, honestly it was so perverse. Really like this series but this one went WAY overboard with sexual stuff. I almost had to stop reading multiple times (I regret finishing it) and makes me leary of his other books. Yes it’s Sodom and Gomorrah, yes the Bible has lots of graphic events that make me sick and angry but this was just way over the top and unnecessary when he’s supposed to be a Christian writer. Read like a Hollyweird movie instead. Blah!

This is sexually perverse to an unpardonable degree. The faith of authors has been under discussion for less (looking at Boethius here). And it is full of Jewish fables that Paul tells you not to listen to.
I mean it. This is heresy.

The books in this series are often touted as parts of a larger fantasy epic along the lines of Lord of the Rings. I don't see them that way. They bear a closer resemblance to Indiana Jones adventure stories with their tongue in cheek humor, numerous wise cracks, and thinly veiled commenetary on today's social norms and political leaders.

A fight scene in this volume involving hand-to-hand combat between Abram and Nimrod atop a Royal carriage careening along the verge of a dizzyingly high desert escarpment reminded me of the fist fight between Indie and the Nazi atop the WWI tank in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusader." Check it out. You'll see Sean Connery and Harrison Ford in your mind's eye. I promise you. You might even hear the musical soundtrack.

Speaking of musical accompaniment, perhaps you'll remember the Obama campaign song from 2008. Check out this scene with Lot bemoaning the behavior of his 14-year-old daughters in the city of Sodom.

"Lot cringed every time he heard them singing around the house their songs of indoctrination about Ba’al’s new world.

He is gonna change it, rearrange it. Ba’al’s gonna change the world.

Lot had lost control of them long ago. They had become little monsters of chaos."

Brian Godawa presents the situations and the people of the Bible in a vivid and emotional way. He turns mere names into relatable human beings. He makes the story come to life.

And it's all fun to read.

**Sometimes boring, sometimes great**

I really don't wanna spend too much energy reviewing this one. This series has been both good and exhausting, some of it over my head, and some of it straight to my heart. Whenever I wasn't feeling lost by the absolute draggy pacing, I was invested. It's just such a mixed bag and I wish I can be blown away enough to rate it 5 stars.

In this entry's case, I enjoyed pretty much most of the story that involved Abraham. While I was disappointed it didn't cover certain important aspects of his story that I was expecting (VERY important aspects), the story that WAS there kept me more or less engaged. And I still am eager to make it to the story about Jesus.

But beyond Abraham, the story that still dwelled on the Nephilim and the gods was beyond overwhelming in its presentation. I admit, I ended up skimming QUITE a bit of these info-dumped sections just to keep my head afloat. It's a lot of exposition that heavily bogged things down and I was just trying to make it through.

All in all, though I can't rate these entries highly, I'm still in the game till the end. For my handfuls of hightlights and mild commentary, click here.

I was so excited to read about this series, thinking I might recommend it to my parish as a library volunteer, especially to teens, what with its supernatural “superhero” overtones. I read Jesus Triumphant first, and really enjoyed it as far as its research (sources could’ve been cited), plus its balance of gravity & levity. Godawa inserts conservative “Christian” viewpoints—ie, anti-gun control—in the story, which I, as a critically-thinking adult reader, can deal with. However, his having Lot slap his mouthy teenage daughters was a deal-breaker for my recommending this series to others who might not be a discerning of something written for entertainment and edification versus endorsement of systemic patriarchy.

Wonderful author that has done his research!

I am so happy to have stumbled upon this author!!!
I am born in Christian and have always studied Gods word, these books are truly amazing.
The word of God says to test every spirit and not be taken in by false prophets, and to be as timid as sheep but is cunning as a fox; that being said, this author has done his background research and studies, the books written by this author are amazing. amazing, amazing, food for thought.
The books are well written and very intriguing, and shows me a side of my Bible heroes that makes my heart sing for joy !!!

Probably my second favorite in the series so far. Brian inserts more of his politics in this one than in prior books, which doesn’t personally bother me but took me out of the story some.

I think he really has something special with the Gilgamesh/Nimrod character. Between the third and fourth books I was rooting for him then eventually hoping for a repentance of some degree.

This also seems like a good concluding point so I’m anxious to see how he picks thing back up with Joshua in book five.

Abraham Alligiant (Chronicles of the Nephilim Book 4) By Brian Godawa

Thank you Brian Godawa. I enjoyed reading this book about Abraham & Sarah. I must admit though that there was humor in this book. I've read about the giants in the Bible but I've never really pondered or thought about them. Now I need God to give me fresh new eyes and insight to read His word. Especially when I come across the word giant or giants in the land. They are definitely demonic abominable giants working for satan doing his bidding. Thank you again. Now I'm reading Joshua Valiant, Book 5.

Biblical fiction

Another great story. I sure didn't picture Abraham in this way or living around the time of the fall of Babel. But reading the rational at the end of the book makes sense and it makes an exciting book either way. Again I love how Brian Godawa stays as close to the bible as possible and then provides his research after the book. I learn so much from each book.

There is nothing new

I really did enjoy this book, your story telling held me spellbound. Again you have opened up the bible for me, your books though fictions have shown me how great my God is, and that everything that was is, and forever will be until Jesus returns. I also remembered the hippies of the sixties and their slogan of love,, we are living with its effect today. Thanks

Again, not the best written books, but these retelling of OT stories are fun reads. Godawa should probably invest in an editor - this one overuses commas A LOT, the dialogue could be smoothed out to be more natural, and Godawa really let his political proclivities come through strongly. I don’t disagree with his apparent political beliefs, but implying that they’re God’s design is dangerous territory, IMHO.

Really enjoyed this

While the story is fantastic to say the least, I felt like it gave me a better understanding of what the ancient world of the Bible was really like. Whether the details are perfectly historically accurate or not does not matter. It's the overall illumination it gives to the Bible that is really amazing to me. I'm on to the next book!

Awesome in the Retelling!

I did not love the gory details presented in this story, but it fit with the retelling of Abraham’s story and the era of his time. This author has an amazing imagination in clearly describing the beauty and ugliness of the characters. Another action packed story!

Account comes alive!

While I have a Bible college education, novels engage many senses so that it is easier to remember. Plus the interweaving of the divine Council and the Watchers make it all complete.

Wonderful series.

I hate writing reviews, but this is a great series. Brings the historical Bible into perspective. I would not have liked to have lived in those times of Noah or Abraham, but our world is not much different....except no giants or merged animals.

Brings the characters to life

I loved that I could now put these biblical characters in perspective. It has enriched my understanding of biblical context of the ancient near East.
Thank you, Brian, for this wonderful book.

Captivating!

This is the 4th book I have read from Brian Godawa. He is a masterful storyteller. Though I’m not sure Abram was around to see the tower of Bable I found that part of the story to connect well with the biblical account of Abrams life. Excellent and helpful book!

Disappointing

All the richness of Abrams life recorded and you make it boring and way to many assumptions that border on apostasy. I suggest you read Hebrews.
