First off, I nearly dinged this to a two because the cover of this volume is so freaking trashy. Poor Shou. It’s not like manga don’t have salacious covers, but this one just irked me (and that pose looks painful as eff).
Ahem, anyway, this series has great characters. The problem is that none of them are the two leads. Utsumi not only has the poor impulse control of his peers, but the dude does more waffles than an IHOP on Shrove Tuesday. The fact that he means well does not take away from him being one of the most lame-ass manga leads ever.
Kurokawa is... complicated, but not very interesting compared to the earlier volumes. She spends too much time being a non-entity here, such that we lose the whole point of her and Utsumi getting together. They can’t have chemistry if they’re avoiding each other.
No, Eri and Shou are the real stars here. Shou, clearly destined to be runner up in this match, deserves so much more. She’s interesting and feels real and has some agency, none of which we get out of Kurokawa. Eri is amazing because she’s turned out to be the only female in the cast who isn’t after the lead and she’s not only super fun and high energy, but functions well as an audience surrogate for browbeating Utsumi.
The story this volume is the usual melodrama that we’ve come to expect - reality will warp itself in this world so that the most awkward conversations can be heard by the wrong people at the exact wrong moment. Make no mistake, this is not great writing, but it’s mostly harmless time killing manga.
The main takeaway of this volume is that you should not trust a teenager to shut down a small business. And, of course, you can’t forget that cliffhanger, another example of characters making the worst possible decision. The fuse is lit on that one.
This is another volume of more of the same. I’d say if you haven’t been turned off by now, you’ll like this volume just fine (case in point, I feel i lobbed several of these critiques at previous volumes).
GE is a decent Slice Of Life manga with good and evolving storyline between a lovable loser who sucks with women meets a girl who makes him less socially awkward and accidentally makes him more charismatic. He eventually falls for her and doesn't know how to articulate his feelings. Great story can do less of the fan service.
Not sure why they choose to hide a charming romcom behind such a grotty, pandering cover, but there you go. It's about a nice boy who has a bunch of girls interested in him, but they are all very nice too, and have all experienced heartbreaks in the past, so they keep backing off to avoid hurting each other's feelings. It's all very sweet.
Este Quinto Numero de este manga sigue gustandome, el dibujo me parece bueno y detallado, el protagonista me parece aveces muy ingenuo pero para la edad creo que es acorde pero hay cosas que son de cultura oriental en la forma de pensar.
I still believe that this is increadible adorable, but holy crap this guy needs to get himself together. I going to stop holding sympathy for him. I am also getting a little bit annoyed by some of these girls too. Are you really this pathetic? High school is awkward, but this is ridiculous!!!
