This book involves a young girl named Emily who makes a special birthday wish on her sixth birthday. She blows out the candles and wishes that everything in the world would become pink. Emily goes too far by throwing away any present that is not pink. When she awakes the next day, she gets her wish. Family and friends are unhappy. The traffic lights, sun, house, everything is pink! Her friend Valerie is distressed because she cannot find her cat. When it begins raining pink raindrops, Emily finds the rainbow umbrella that her Grandmother gave her as a gift thrown in the trash. Emily picks it up. She realizes that we need diversity in the world and that it is boring to have everything the same even if it is our favorite color. Young children will love the read aloud; older children will get the message and enjoy reading it independently
I was just looking through books and came across this one. It's a children's story but what an eye opener it can be for adults. Sometimes what we want, or getting our way, can be so negative on others. And we may not care or realize until the negative aspects inconvenience us. Short but so much to it. I can recommend this book to anyone..... kinda like Christmas. Some thing You don't out grow and one of them is helpful lessons for us, and or to pass on......
EMILY AND THE RAINBOW UMBRELLA tells us about Emily’s birthday wish and the negative effects in has on everyone even though it makes Emily happy. She has to rethink her wish and she learns that diversity is good. I found this story delightful and fun. The illustrations were wonderfully colorful. Perfect for 4-8 year olds.
This book was adorable. I loved the story and I loved the pictures. I read this to my daughter and she kept asking 'what happens next'. She was very excited. Great story!
