When Peter Foley’s fishing boat sinks in the waters off the coast of Ireland, a lethal secret is revealed. Local superstition claims that when death is imminent supernatural forces manifest themselves and the Banshee sings. Dismissing this as nonsense and with terrible danger facing Kenmare, Inspector Dermot O’Hara confronts unseen powers and his old nemesis, Assistant Commissioner Quinn.
New passion is born but an old ghost and past sins emerge to torment Dermot and threaten his cozy existence. All the police officer's detective skills are called on to solve the mystery and save his town. So great are the dangers that even the love of his wife and the loyalty, humour and friendship of the regulars in Crowley’s Bar, appear inadequate against the forces opposing them. A colourful cast, from former FBI man Frank McMahon, who could happily live on a diet of Irish stew and Black Bush whiskey, to the journalist known as ‘the Beast’, populate the pages of this romantic Irish thriller.
As well as being a well-known character in Irish mythology, the Banshee is the name for a prototype American nuclear torpedo. Peter Foley is a friend of Inspector Dermot O’Hara, so when his fishing boat is wrecked just off the Irish coast (it does not sink), Dermot is determined to find out what happened even when his superiors warn him off. As is often the case with thrillers, the details of the technology are implausible and the plot improbable but exciting. The setting in Kenmare and the authentically Irish characters make this a simulating read.
To know the Irish is to love them! Banshee is a story to
Love. The roundabout way things get done. The absolute love between all the characters even tho they pretend annoyance with each other is very typical and amusing. I recommend this book?! It was a easy fun read with a little tension thrown in for good measure!
A great book takes the reader through the characters and descriptions to another place. I've never been to Ireland. Courtesy of the author....now I have. Buy this book!!
Great book great characters and just like County Kerry and Kenmare. A must read. If you haven't visited you need to go. So like the pubs and the people.
