Glenn Rolfe is a singer, songwriter, and author of over eighteen books. He has studied Creative Writing at Southern New Hampshire University, toured in a minivan with his punk rock friends, played the Hard Rock Cafe in Denver, hosted a radio show at Bates College, and dreams of surfing in the Pacific Ocean one day with his future pet goat.
He loves the books of Stephen King, Brian Keene, Ronald Malfi, Jack Ketchum, and Richard Laymon, the music of Bruce Springsteen, Oasis, Pre-Reputation Taylor Swift, Kiss, and Billy Joel, and soaking in the sun and eating pier fries at Old Orchard Beach.
His kids love him despite his weirdness, so who could ask for more? He is hard at work on many more books and songs.
Stay tuned!
He is the author of When the Night Falls, Until Summer Comes Around, August's Eyes, Blood and Rain, The Window, and more. Stay tuned for his next thrilling Maine horror novel, The Siren of Groves Peak (2026)
Richard Chizmar, New York Times and USA Today Best Selling-Author of Gwendy’s Button Box, says of Rolfe’s Blood and Rain: “A wonderful throwback to the fun and bloody days of paperback horror glory!”
Glenn Rolfe’s The Haunted Halls serial reading pleasure has continued for me with Volume 2. With many moments of terror and psychological twists seeping and flowing exquisitely around action-packed scenes, Volume 2 keeps the momentum going. Volume 1 really had me wanting to read more and I wasn’t disappointed with Volume 2 as it picked right up for me and kept me engaged in the story. I am extremely anxious to read Volume 3 now because Volume 2 had just enough suspense and left just enough clues and questions to make me crazy for Volume 3. If I had the entire book, I’d probably stay up way too late reading it, so at least Glenn is allowing me some rest in between, but the pace of the book is propelling me into grabbing the next installment as soon as possible!! His characters are developing even further and we begin to see some of their intentions or sinister plans, while with others we feel just enough to wonder what will happen to or with them as the story moves on. I am suspicious of almost everyone. I think he did a great job of juxtaposing between the past (in the 1980s) and the present, integrating characters and leaving us trying to connect the proverbial dots. And he did leave us hanging on many occasions, which is also a great move when selling a serial. Glenn has just enough suspense intertwined with some great action scenes, especially in the hotel and the pool room, to mesmerize me. I love the shape shifting succubus avenue, and at least for me, I feel as if I am reading something original. His writing is clear, characters well-developed (some very evil and sinister), plot seems tight so far, and he has those great elements of soft and haunting coupled with bold, blunt and action-packed horror scenes. Even though I may never be able to swim in a hotel pool again, it will be worth it to have gotten to read such a well-written, modern, and psychological horror tale. I am eager to know what these characters are up to next and look forward to Volume 3!

Short story serials have the distinct challenge of keeping readers coming back for more with each installment. You can only let the reader in on so much each volume. While this may put off some, I like the idea of them, and enjoy the quick reads. The Haunted Halls is no different. There are questions that need to be answered, and there isn’t a lot of questions being answered, just more entering your mind.
Sarah…the Ice Queen, the girl whom invades your dreams and puts you under her ghastly spell gets a bit more attention. You get to look deeper into her past, how her relationships were back in 1983, and just how sick and twisted she really is. One by one she’s forming a team for something, you don’t know what…or really why. Being just the second part in the story however, I wouldn’t expect many answers to be given.
This entry into the Haunted Halls is a bit more gruesome. More blood, guts and pain. It also does a good job of balancing that with suspense, and keeping your spine chilled during the read.
One thing that stands out is the slow build of the characters. You can’t do a ton of building in a short story and keep the mood, so with each installment I expect to learn more, especially about the Inn keepers. For some reason, I think there is more to them than meets the eye, and I’m excited to get a bit more information on them.
The Bottom Line: Another thrilling entry. I hope that he can keep this sort of steam up when it gets to the next couple installments. It’s one of the few Haunted stories that really has me on the edge of my seat. Yeah, some of it’s pretty cliche as far as the thrills go, but it still doesn’t really stop it from being scary as hell.
Wow, Glenn Rolfe just keeps chilling up the pages in "The Haunted Halls: Volume 2". With a bit of a slower pace, this book is a bit more terrifying, chilling and gory then the first book. I love how we learn more about each character as the story progresses and I honestly can say that I can't wait for the third book to see what happens next.

I was on the verge of giving this 4 stars, forgiving the typos due to the leanness and the meanness. However, a pretty big factual error was present. Now that the author has fixed it, I have amended my score accordingly. Part 2 is an improvement over part 1.
