A Chosen Destiny

Rate this book
Samantha’s destiny was chosen long ago. At least that’s what she’s told by the people who created her. Her enhanced genes and genetic software were meant to do everything from mold her personality to pick who she falls in love with.

But can destiny be changed? Ever since Samantha learned the truth about herself, she’s struggled to figure out who’s really in charge of her life. Can she make her own choices? Or is her future determined by her genes?

Old enemies reappear and new ones emerge as Samantha and Erik use their powers to fight the people who are after them. But it’s getting harder to figure out who’s good and who’s evil. The enemy they’ve been fighting may not be the one who’s truly after them.

It’s another thrill ride of suspense to keep you guessing until the very end!

Now last but not least is the final book. This book once again picks up exactly where we left off in book 2. The story has become much more complex. Luckily the author actually went into details about genetic manipulation, and the entire scientific aspect was made simple for even the most unscientific. So references made in this book are quite easy to understand.

This series was one giant jigsaw puzzle. I figured out a few things long before the end of the book. This book WILL keep you on the edge of your seat. The growth of the characters is wonderfully done. Erik, Brittany, Colin all change and mature as they handle the different situations thrown at them. Even the adults show some growth which I liked. Now what I didn't like is that in parts of this series it seems that Samantha just doesn't show the same growth that the other characters show. For someone who is supposedly so genetically enhanced she seems very weak willed and wishy-washy at times. At other times she seems to be highly sexually oriented and mature. It's a very strange mix. She does finally show growth and she does finally seem to come into her own. Which is a good thing. Now in my personal opinion if this is the final book it feels unfinished. I'm not exactly sure why, it just seemed after everything we went through that the ending felt anti-climactic for me.

Now I did enjoy this series, and if I had to give a rating on the entire series I would give it a 4. Book 1 and 2 I enjoyed more than book 3. There is a LOT of scientific details in all three books. Information regarding Genetics, DNA, and other science is thrown around quite a lot. If you don't like books where you actually can learn something then this series is not for you. I however didn't find it too distracting to have small information dumps about something that I actually knew something about and enjoyed the thought that if we could just change a few things in a person's DNA we could create super humans. Although at the same time I am totally against that due in part to playing God, and in part to the simple fact that just because we can do something doesn't mean we should do it.

I give this series a very series 4 stars total and suggest to anyone who enjoys science fiction or even romance stories that this series is a good solid read. Again this is not a book for younger than 16 due to some of the graphic dialogues in the books.

Of all three books in The Samantha Project, I really enjoyed reading A Chosen Destiny most of all. I think in part it was because there was more depth not only to the characters but the story. We were finally getting not just some answers but a lot of answers. Pieces of the puzzle that had been making us wondering who was good or bad, were finally put right into place. Which makes sense, for the final book in a series.

I’ve read quite a few series and A Chosen Destiny offers a satisfying conclusion to The Samantha Project. There are no real loose ends or questions left about who the main heroine will end up with. As a reader, did I agree with who Samantha chose? Yes and no. However, I felt satisfied with the ending and I wasn’t left disappointed.

Things I loved about A Chosen Destiny:

Twists and turns! I don’t want to spoil it but the pregnancy bit had me nervous. Television shows get ruined by pregnancies. I wasn’t sure how this book would handle it, but it was done perfectly.

We got to see more of Mr. Owens, who I had wanted to know more about in the second book. So yay!

I always cared deeply for Erik’s character and it’s great to see his character growth through the series. Same for Brittany. I felt these two characters developed the most. I know Samantha developed from beginning to end (especially in terms of Collin) but I really connected with Erik’s character. In fact, I would love a sequel staring Erik.

We really get to see Samantha and Erik’s abilities develop. The progression of the story makes completely sense too. As I was reading, there were certain things I didn’t see coming but later was like “Oh I should have connected the dots earlier!” So yeah, I’m impressed with the overall plot for both A Chosen Destiny and the series as a whole.

Ally! Oh come on, she deserves to be in the “I love” category. I don’t want to add any spoilers about why I love her, I just do.

Would I recommend A Chosen Destiny? Yes, but you have to read the entire series beginning with The Samantha Project to fully understand what you’re reading.

I didn't love this as much as the first two books in the trilogy. The story runs smoothly and the writing is good, but I just didn't like how the story ended. I LOVED all the scientific aspects to the entire trilogy. It's what kept me reading and interested, as it seemed believable considering all the crazy amazing stuff medicine and science can do these days. Now I'm usually a sucker for a fun romance along with a great storyline, but I just wasn't crazy about the romantic elements of this third story. I felt like Sam wasn't true to her feelings. I never felt like Her choice was the right choice, even from the beginning. She just never seemed gaga or head over hills in love, even as awesome as the person was that she chooses. So even though I looked the books, I didn't like how it ended. Having said that, I'd totally read anything new from Stephanie Karpinski.

Wow hands down a 5 star this book just brought all the previous two books together the science was kept simple and the whole story unfolded. The twist and turns just kept on coming. The growth of all the characters is very evident. Sam and Erik's ability had also developed. this is my favorite of all the three books.
Overall great trilogy highly recommend

Good end to this trilogy. I will say by this book I was getting tired of Sam and her behavior, just seemed like she was whining a lot or something.
