I received The Cabin as an ARC from the author, Natalie Stark and I loved it! The best thing about Novella's is that they get directly to the point! There's no need for a long drawn-out storyline and you can pretty much piece everything together once you begin to read!
The Prologue of the story starts off really strong with a really strong scene between two characters that desperately need to be together. Based off of their encounter and the fact that they ddn't want to get caugt having sex at Mia's 18th Birthday Party, i honestly thought the man she was having sex with was her Step-Father or a Coach or something! What's revealed later in the book completely threw me for a loop and made me love the story that much more!
So the story follows Mia and her internal fight to give herself sexually to her Newly-Wed Husband, Nathan. On the night of their wedding, you find Mia looking for every excusse possible to not give herself to Nathan. There's mention of scars on her back that she's ashamed of and she doesn't want to Nathan to see these yet and get scared (you guessed it, they waited untl Marriage to have sex!)
Well, Nathan gives in and understands that his Wife is exhausted from all of the day's festivities and agrees not to have sex just yet, however, when Nathan falls asleep, Mia goes into the bathroom and masturbates while thinking of a past love. The story gives you a glance at the past and how Nathan and Mia met and you honestly find yourself feeling sorry for him. Based on Mia's' flashbacks, you come to realize that she's truly not in love with Nathan, but anonther man named Quinn. And this is the man that she's with in the prologue. Because Quinn is no longer in the picture, Mia's moved on and is settling with Nathan, but only because she feels she has to. What gets to be a bit confusing is why she just doesn't go and find Quinn.
Mia and Nathan's honeymoon takes them to a mountain where they have rented a cabin to stay at. The plan is to grab lunch and park at the bottom of the mountain and hike to the cabin. Prior to the hike, they stop off at a church where Mia goes in to give her confession to the Priest. She starts off and then freaks out and runs out of the church and begs Nathan to take her to the cabin. Her intent is to finally come clean with Nathan about a secret she's been keeping. They begin the trek to the mountain, but get separated due to the fog and an approaching storm. She continually searches for Nathan when someone else calls out her name instead. The voice gets closer and who is it? Its Quinn! Why is he on the Mountain? He's the priest that wasss in the church she stopped off at and realized what her confession was going to be and had to come and find her. So at this point, I'm definitely intruged!
So Quinn followed Mia and Nathan and knew that the fog was going to be an issue, so he sent Nathan back down to the car for the night and followed Mia to take her to the cabin. Mia is hesitant to hear anything he has to say and Quinn promises to take her to Nathan after she hears him out. She doesn' t have much of a choice and decides to listen. And this is where things become interesting. The story comes full circle and you find out that Mia and Quinn have loved each other for quite some time and fell in love while he was studying to become a priest and she was in Catholic School. They snuck off to be together sexually and were caught by some of the head Nun's. As punishment, Quinn was sent away and told one story and Mia was beaten and told another story, leaving them both to believe that they no longer wanted each other. I'm not sure where, but in the midst of the conversation, they begin to make out pretty heavily.
And then comes the hot sex with A Priest! And I called my friend at this point and was like "Damn, ths Priest is getting it IN!!" LOL!! The sex scene between Mia and Quinn was so graphic and so well written that even though you know its wrong, you were secretly hoping that you could get more scenes between these two! And then its like Nathan? Nathan who??!?! LOL! Well, after a few rounds, Quinn suits back up into his clothing and tells Mia that they cannot be together, but they'll always have the cabin whenever she comes to visit since he runs the grounds and Mia gets sent home with Nathan who was worried sick about her all night long!
Ok, so why did I only give it 4 Stars if I loved it this much? Well, I would've loved a physical description of Quinn to go along with just how HOT this Priest is! Other than that, the Novella was very well written and I cannot wait to read more of Natalie's work in the future!
