*Received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

Clay and Louise are living in New Jersey when Clay learns that a relative has left him a home in Florida. Eager to retire and enjoy the rest of his life, Clay is eager to sell their home and begin a new life. Louise is very against the move and tries to sabotage the sale of their home so she can stay in New Jersey. Eventually they make it to Florida and come to learn "What Matters Most"

This is the type of book that is easy to read. It had some very funny moments where I laughed out loud, some cute moments and some sad moments. I especially liked the parts where the author let us see what both Clay and Louise were thinking. Louise, being a main character, was not a very likeable character to me. She came off as self centered, childish/immature, impulsive and unrealistic in her expectations. But the author does a good job of supplying her back story to explain why change is difficult for her. Even though I did not particularly care for the main character, I did like this book. I also liked how the story unfolded and Louise began to flourish in her new life. By the end of the book, I did begin to like Louise more. This book was well written, very nicely paced and quite an enjoyable read. I would definitely read more books by this author

When Clay Palmer received the solicitor’s letter telling him he’d inherited his Uncle Charlie’s estate in Florida he was hell-bent on quitting his job at the bank; the job he’d held for thirty years; and retiring to fish and play golf away from the freezing winters they were currently enduring. But his wife Louise was settled into their home; this was the place she would remain until she died – nothing anyone said would change her mind. She had her family, her granddaughter, all of her Quilting Club friends – there was absolutely no way she would move to Florida away from everything she knew and loved.

Louise was sure Clay knew how she felt – after all they loved each other; she knew he loved her – so why was he persisting on the move? Why wasn’t he considering her feelings? But as time moved forward, so did preparations for the sale of their home, along with the move to Florida. Louise’s best friend Billie tried to think of a way to thwart Clay’s plans but she was going through some problems of her own...

The stress and strain that Louise felt was putting pressure on their marriage – but still Clay continued with his plans. Finally the day arrived – the new owners signed the contract; Louise, Clay and Yoo, their dog were leaving the home Louise never wanted to leave. What would she do? How could she face the future – a future where her adorable granddaughter was nowhere near; a future with no friends?

I really enjoyed this delightful novel by author Bette Lee Crosby – a story of what matters most in a person’s life; of love and family as well as friendships. This author never disappoints, and What Matters Most is no exception. Highly recommended.

With thanks to the author for my copy to read and review.

Just to clarify I did not read the Kindle version of this book but a paperback that had this cover though it doesn’t seem to show up on this site.
After a childhood of moving, Louise Palmer wants nothing more than to stay in the house where she lives with Clay, her husband of thirty years. She is close to her dear friends in the Quilting Club and family, including her five year old granddaughter Amanda. When a letter arrives from a solicitor announcing that Clay has inherited a house in Florida from his uncle, Clay announces he wants to retire and move. Louise cannot believe all her comfortable, settled life could be torn apart. She can think of nothing worse than moving to Florida and doesn’t understand why Clay doesn’t seem to care what she wants. Louise comes up with a plan to keep them from moving. Surely this will work! Won’t it? This plan sets off an amusing chain of events that also include a few misunderstanding with their dog Yoo.
This is a light, fun read that manages to cover interesting and amusing situations while still focussing on what is most important in life. And sometimes that requires being willing to change. There are a range of colourful, and I mean colourful, characters especially Cherry.
I enjoyed this novel and could associate with Louise in some ways. If you are looking for a light entertaining read then I would recommend this one. It has all the charm and heart we have come to expect from books by Bette Lee Crosby.

Just when Louise thinks she has everything she ever wanted, her husband, Clay, throws a wrench in the works.

She has her family, her perfect home, and her circle of quilting friends. Louise would be perfectly happy to spend the rest of her life right where she is.

Clay, on the other hand, is tired of shoveling snow, and his boring job at the bank is draining the life out of him.

When a letter arrives, it looks like he’s saved. His Uncle died and left him a small house in Florida. They’ll move south, enjoy the balmy weather, make new friends, and enjoy the good life.

His nightmares of dropping dead at his desk are gone. Now that he has a chance to change things, he’s like a dog with a bone. Nothing will stop him now.

Louise is at her wit’s end. She doesn’t want anything to change. She wants everything to stay the way it is.

She gets with her best friend and they come up with a Plan A.

She hires the absolute worst realtor out there to list the house with. But, go figure, he gets a bite quickly and they even get the asking price, which she set high to discourage buyers.

Now what can she do?

Clay’s going through a mid-life crisis and Louise is pulling her hair out, trying to stop this run away train.

My thoughts

You know that saying, “Life goes on?”

I look back to that perfect time in my life and wish I could go back. But then real life comes crashing in, reminding me that time stands still for no one. You can never go back and nothing stays the same.

Poor Loiuse was always stable and secure in her life and now she’s ripped out of her happy home and driving to points unknown.

Clay changed from mister predictable to this dreamer. He romanticized the move, seeing a fantasy come true and his sights are set on Florida, believing the move will make him happy.

Poor Louise, you can feel her desperation, her panic. The road trip is insane. Her Plan B fails. I don”t know how she ever thought it would work.

I guess she had nothing left to lose.

I was really hoping for this one thing to happen at the end of this story, and Bette didn’t disappoint me. I had my, “You go girl” moment.

I’ve read several of Bette Lee Crosby’s novels and each time I read a new one I say to myself this is the best one yet. I could never choose a favorite as they have all touched my heart.

Bette’s southern accent sneaks into What Matters Most, subtly charming you, while tickling your funny-bone, and leaving you happy and wiser.

The author gifted me a copy of her book for review. I've loved all of her books and will happily read any new ones.

Sometimes it takes some changes in your life to make you see what matters most ...

What Matters Most is a wonderful story about love, friendship, family and marriage. Author Bette Lee Crosby weaves an entertaining tale written in the third person narrative intertwined with first person narratives, that follows the journey of Louise Palmer as she learns to adapt to changes in her life.

Set in Westfield, NJ, fifty-three year old Louise Palmer has been married to husband Clay for over thirty years. Louise's life is picture-perfect: from the house that they live in, to her two grown children, to her circle of friends. But all of this is about to change when Clay receives a letter from an attorney naming him the sole heir to his Uncle Charlie's property in Florida. At fifty-five years of age, Clay has been a banker for the last thirty years, but lately he has become weary and ready for early retirement. The attorney's letter is just what Clay needed to push him to decide to retire while he is still young and healthy enough to enjoy life. But there is just one little problem: Louise! Determined to stay in her NJ home, Louise plots and schemes to get her way, only to have it backfire and suddenly her life is turned upside down and changing as they make their move to Florida.

This was such a fun book to read! As the story progressed, I saw myself in Louise in so many ways. As a born and bred Jersey girl, I could relate to Louise's reluctance to move, because I am also a creature of habit and do not like change, except like Clay, I can't stand the cold Jersey winters and would love to move South! I really appreciated the author's thoughtful style of weaving a tale that intertwines wisdom, humor, wit and poignancy throughout the storyline. From Louise's hilarious schemes, to her adjusting to the new lifestyle with a few bumps along the way, to learning the life lesson that home is wherever your heart is, it was heartwarming to watch the transformation that Louise made as she learned to accept change and discover what really does matter most in life.

With a quirky cast of characters who are realistic and fun to get to know; witty dialogue and humorous interactions; a setting that is near and dear to my heart since NJ is my home state; and a delightful storyline that easily captivated my attention, What Matters Most is an enjoyable story about life's changes and new beginnings that will simply leave a smile on your face!

Bette Lee Crosby has done it again for me. She had drawn me into another book, another story, another day vanished while I had my nose stuck in my book, in some ways resting my bad back at the moment is sure a pleasure!!!

We can all get stuck in our marriage in later life and not realize the other person has more things going on in their own personal life and feelings than you are aware of, even though you are married to them.

This wife is settled. She has brought up her children, made friends in her neighbourhood and very contented with the home that she has built up over the years of her marriage. On the other hand, her ageing husband is not so content. A job that he is sick and tired of, a rat race he's in, being left a nice place abroad by a relative is the answer to his dreams, who wants to age where he lives? who doesn't want to spread their wings and live a little. He does. She doesn't.

I am sure this is so true to life. I am middle aged, and changes happen within a marriage/relationship and its hard to change with it.

I found the struggle they both had very real and understood it all the way through. I loved the ending.

Well done to Bette Lee Crosby for yet another brilliant read!

I received this book in exchange for a review, that was not a problem to me, I just love it. Thank you Bette.

A novel that proves there's a lot that can be had from the telling of the goings-on in ordinary people's lives. Scenes that tug at the heart, funny moments, and a load of life lessons - all these can be found on the pages where the author interspersed third person storytelling with chapters filled with the characters' own thoughts and musings.

The author's writing style is such that she doesn't need to use sex or any other kind of thrill as an ingredient for anyone to want to read on. The female protagonist, a woman in her 50s, though begrudgingly, went with her husband to retire in faraway Florida, leaving the stability of her life in hometown New Jersey. A life that is not eventful, but made interesting through the author's talented weaving of the story. I went through the blurbs of her other works, and based on these alone, I now declare myself a fan.

There is just something about a Bette Lee Crosby book that allows the story to just slide off the pages. I think that I have read almost everything that Bette has written, and thoroughly enjoyed them all. What Matters Most is another enjoyable and charming read from this master of southern literature.

Louise and Carl have an established life in New Jersey. He has worked at the local bank for his whole working career, she has successfully raised two children and is active in the local scene. That is until Carl's Uncle Charlie leaves them a house in Florida. Suddenly their life is in upheaval.

Like all of Bette's books, this story was easy to get into and flowed quickly for me. She has a wonderful voice which makes me feel like she is sitting in front of me telling me the story, rather than being miles away while I am reading her book. In addition, Bette's characters are always full of personality and pizazz. There were several characters in this book that really fit that bill, and although I had a bit of a hard time identifying with the main characters of Louise and Carl, there were several supporting characters who I identified with right off the bat. It's not that Louise and Carl were not great characters, they were. It was just that, in the beginning, they were not very likable. In fact, I remember thinking several times that they had to be the most self centered, clueless people in the world....but that was the point. As usual, Bette painted this picture in a true to life way that everyone can enjoy.

As I said, overall this book was thoroughly enjoyable. The story itself was told with Bette's customary charm and wit and the characters were incredibly real. My only regret is that I only have one more of Bette's books left to read. I can only hope that she writes and publishes more soon, so I don't have to wait too long.

WHAT MATTERS MOST is a story of remembrances, friendships, marriages, and learning to trust God and cherish those we love. Louise and Clay are enjoying the good life in New Jersey, but when Clay receives a letter telling him that his Uncle Charlie has died, leaving him his home in Florida, all this changes. Clay decides it's time to retire while he can still enjoy life---preferably, like his Uncle Charlie did in Florida. But, Louise is perfectly happy where she is, and plans to stay there, amongst her friends, in her lovely home, until she dies.

Much time is spent by Louise, as she schemes to thwart Clay's plans to sell their house, but Clay continues on with his plans to move, seemingly never listening to Louise. Louise remembers her less than desirable childhood, of continuously traveling from one bad place to another, with parents who never wanted her in the first place. Circumstances and many old and new friends influence this couple as they learn WHAT MATTERS MOST.

This was a delightfully charming story. The wisdom and wit that are woven into this story make it special. This is the second book by this author that I have read although I own all but one of her books. I love her knack for writing a genuine “feel good” story.

There were so many points in the book where Louise’s schemes and the situations she found herself in made me laugh out loud. I did not connect with her immediately, but eventually warmed to her. Her sense of community and loyalty are what won me over. I loved watching her transformation.

I recommend this book for anyone who wants to read a good book. I will definitely be moving Bette Lee Crosby’s other books up on my to read list.

I have to admit I had a little trouble getting into this book. At first, I didn't identify with Louise - I love to travel and I'm not superstitious. However, the more I thought about her character and how I would feel about moving away from everyone I loved, the more I got it. From that point, the book took on a whole new meaning. Bette is one of the most insightful writers I've read and I completely enjoyed the storyline of "What Matters Most." The characters came alive and, by the time I'd finished reading it, felt like I want to join their community. This is a lovely book, with lots of emotion and just the right amount of inspiration. If I would fault it at all, it didn't have any negative characters - just a lot of people you'd love to call your friends. Highly recommended!

Clay received a letter telling of his Uncle Charlie's death and his inheritance. Charlie had left him a home in Florida.

When Louise found out about his fear of dying over a pile of papers at the bank, like his father, she considered him retiring.

Clay: "I'm like wallpaper that's grown colorless and ragged around the edge, but still stuck to the wall."

"There's got to be more to life than that."

Louise: There has to be more to life than have-tos. She thought hard about Clay. As pictures of him ran through her mind, she knew her decision. OKAY.

Clay thought of the house in Florida and started to plan their move. He became invigorated, coming alive.

All Louise could think about was what would she do without her family and friends?

All Clay had to say was, she "...will start over again." A new life, a new outlook, new friends and new adventures. "Isn't that what life is about?"

Louise was very superstitious. She had a long list of should haves. She believed life was full of luck for people with matching initials, like her friend Billlie Butterman.

Louise loved her life. She liked knowing exactly what would happen. No surprises.

When her friend suggested a way to thwart the move, she jumped on it. He wouldn't know she was trying to stall. She figured he would change his mind.

Clay felt Louise would change her mind and embrace the move once they got to Florida.

So, let's go on an adventure with Clay and Louise as they find their way through the pitfalls, perils and enjoyment of creating a new life after retiring.

4 STARS - Would Highly Recommend To Others

Bette Lee Crosby's covers always hold a lot of emotion, as do her stories. This is a story of love, change and learning the true values of life. A story full of humor and sorrow. I didn't feel the need to cry but I sure did laugh. ^_^

Her books are very well written and capture you from beginning to end. They are full of Southern hospitality. A warm welcome with an open door. Come on in.

The characters in her books could be your friends, family or neighbors.

Myself, I have moved many, many times since 1987. The first move was the hardest. Then, they became an adventure and I would look forward to another place and the opportunity to make it my own.

How do you feel about change? Do you look at change as an adventure, or do you like knowing what is around the corner?

Some people grab it with both hands, Louise was terrified. Her past made her insecure, she needed the sameness. Louise wanted stability. As a child, they had moved place to place. She felt she never belonged. She had nobody, nothing.

In her unhappiness after the move, she had isolated herself. Her perception was not fact. She was full of sorrow and anger. "Odd man out." If she wasn't so busy feeling sorry for herself, she would have seen how willing the people were to include her in their life.

Aunt Rose. What can I say about Aunt Rose? I think she sums up the whole book, title and all. I loved her from the beginning. She made me laugh. But, you will have to read the book to find out why.

Communication - sometimes we don't do it very well.

Old drivers were mentioned, "......set their directional signals to blinking blocks before anyone actually made a turn."

I have read and reviewed several books by Bette Lee Crosby. She has given me signed paperbacks that look great on my bookshelf. I love her books and have told her I will always review every book of hers I get my hands on. No request necessary. Thank you, Bette Lee, for the many hours of reading that have allowed me to leave reality behind and walk in someone else's shoes.

It was utterly fantastic, reading about Louise’s life was better than I expected. Louise is superstitious, so if your name is double initials you are lucky. If you have triple initials, watch out!! Louise is so content with her life and her routine that it anything gets added or subtracted from it, it is like a major catastrophe. When her husband inherits a house in Florida, her husband Clay wonders about early retirement and moving south. Health issues have been an issue in past generations so Clay feels that this might “be a sign” but Louise does not want to leave her established and dependable life behind. So much confusion and honesty about their relationship is spilled out onto the pages, the truthfulness and candor expressed from the characters yet their feelings were not being addressed. Clay just wants to retire and move away from the rat-race and Louise just wants Clay to listen, I mean really listen. It’s a dance they are doing; we all have done the dance if you have ever been in a relationship. You talk and you think the other person is listening but they’re not really listening….I mean really listening with their heart and soul. Bette does a great job expressing this that it just thrills me to see this in print without deep sobbing and other excess emotions. Louise has a past with some deeper issues and she needs some reassurance and she needs that reassurance from Clay. Will he ever be able to really listen to her? What parts of her past is Louise worried about? Moving to Florida, Louise is sure that her life will never be the same as it was in New Jersey. Without her family, friends and familiar shops, what will she do in Florida? As they head south with Aunt Rose, Louise’s life is just getting started. Oh and Aunt Rose, you will love her!!!
I whipped through this book one afternoon as I couldn’t wait to read more about Louise. Aunt Rose had me in stitches. I would love to meet this lady with her snappy attitude as she reminded me of Mike’s mom on the show Mike & Molly. I didn’t want them to drop her off as I knew I would miss her. From the beginning of the book, I was caught up in the comings and goings of Louise and the people she was connected to. I laughed, I cried, I paged through the book slowly as I was afraid of what I might find in the next page and I snickered quite a few times. What a great way to spend the afternoon.

Louise Palmer has mapped out her life since she was a child and if you asked her she could tell you exactly what she would be doing twenty years from now but all that changes when her husband Clay decides to take early retirement and sell their family home to move to Florida. Overwhelmed with the thought of leaving her friends and children she and her best friend devise a scheme to stop the move. The tale that unfolds was realistic, and inspirational with fleshed out characters I came to adore.

One of Crosby’s gifts is creating realistic characters that are flawed and then she allows them to grow throughout the novel. Louise Palmer could be me, she could be my next door neighbor and we all know a person just like her best friend Billie. Louise seems well rounded and adjusted in the beginning of the tale but as Crosby peels back her layers we begin to understand her actions and see her weaknesses. I imagine each of us can identify with her, as we often label our success as woman, wives, and members of our community by some of the things Louise did. I loved the transformation she undergoes and found her to be both likeable and genuine. Clay is a solid guy and a wonderful provider. He isn't as sensitive as I would have liked or as physical but I imagine he is typical of a lot of spouses. *Clueless!* Secondary characters were an absolute hoot and added to Louise’s tale and I giggled quite often. Louise’s complaining, judgmental Aunt was hilarious and we all have one in our family. Lord, the things that came out of her mouth. The lovely old woman at K-mart was inspirational and one you just wanted to hug. Cherry is a woman I know you all have met, from the way she talks to how she dresses. She was delightful, over the top and had me laughing and cringing.

What Matters Most touches on so many subjects we as individuals face throughout our lives and of lessons learned. Some of us learn them early and some never do. What I love about Crosby is that she places her characters in realistic situations. I have moved six times in my marriage and the last has taken us the furthest from family and friends and Louise’s experiences hit home a few times. From the trip to their new home there were humorous and ridiculous moments as Louise tries to cope and I slipped right into the tale as her troubles became mine. The tale flowed beautifully with moments of panic, humor, fear and inspiration. I fell in love with her quirky, realistic characters and enjoyed the ride. While it offers up lessons it also had it's fair share of humor and I giggled my way though this. I closed this book with a smile as I said good-bye to my new friends.

Another great read from Bette Lee Crosby. After reading Spare Change I was more than looking forward to reading more by this author (who also happens to be a goodreads friend). What Matters Most is the story of Louise Palmer and her plans to thwart the move to Florida with her husband Clay Palmer.

Louise is a woman who has planned her life and isn't very keen on change. She has the life she's always wanted in New Jersey. A quilting circle, family, friends, and a life. When Clay receives word that his uncle has left him his home in Tall Pines, Florida, he is more than happy to settle into retirement, sell their home, and move on to fishing and lazying about all day. Louise wants nothing more than to stay put.

The fun thing about What Matters Most is all the southern charm it is laced with. I felt as if I were sitting with a friend, shooting the breeze with my sweet tea hearing a story. A story full of well developed characters, laugh-out-loud moments, superstitions, and some real tension as well. I could definitely relate to Louise even when I thought she was acting ridiculously. Given the background Crosby provides, it's easy to understand why she's the way she is. Louise is a character I won't soon forget especially after reading the scene at a rest station when Yoo runs off. It was hilarious.

Ultimately Bette Lee Crosby has written another superb novel full of the southern charm I've come to expect since reading Spare Change. The story is about what matters most and one woman's journey to figuring that out.

I received this from Library Thing to read and review. Louise Palmer finally has the life she wished for: a husband, grown children, a grandchild, friends she loves who love her in return, and a house in a nice town. Her husband Clay, on the other hand, is restless with his life, ready to take the next big step into retirement. When he receives word that his uncle has died in Florida, and has left him his house, Clay decides the time for retirement has come and, once retired, proposes to move to Florida to that house. Louise immediately becomes upset, frustrated that she will have to leave the life she has made for herself and her family as well as friends, all of which are very important to her, because of her sad, dismal childhood, with no parents or siblings, living a cast-off life with an old aunt of the family. However, they finally move, and initially, Louise has difficulty adjusting to her new life. Can she come to terms with this newness? Can she ever find the welcoming love and friendship, the warmth of friends and family in Florida? In this story, the author presents a poignant tale of one woman’s struggle to come to terms with what life has dealt her, her new friends and her new home in Florida. The only problem I had with this book was the fact that that the main character, Louise, often comes across as a spoiled child, who cannot accept what life brings her and who is not open to any ideas or plans unless they are her own. Still, the author has shown how life’s downturns can eventually become upturns, as one realizes what really matters in life. This is a heart-warming story of one woman’s struggle in a life turned upside down and how she works through things, with the help of her husband and friends. I have not read anything else by this author, but, after this, I will be seeking out more of her works to read. She really knows how to write a book that is interesting but sincere, with a definite underlying message.

This is the second book I've read by this author, Bette Lee Crosby. She has a way with words that wind together into delightfully 'feel good' stories. This book was full of her southern charm and funny japery. (Example: "Sensible people change their underwear, not their house...")

When Louise's husband Clay inherits his Uncle's house in Florida, he decides to retire from his bank job, sell the house in New Jersey, and move to Florida. Louise is thrown for a loop, because she loves her home and has no desire to move to Florida.

As the story moves along, her lifestyle changes with a few bumps in the road along the way. It held my attention from the beginning to the end. It wasn't what I would call a page turner, but it sure was a fun, charming and delightful story of family, friends, and change, be it for better or worse. In the end however we find out..."What Matters Most!"

Thanks to the author, Bette Lee Crosby, for bringing this book to my attention, and offering it for a few days at a reduced price. I really enjoyed this book and awarded it 4****

This book is a part of my Nook Library.

What's not to love about Clay and Louise Palmer? They're just like my parents, my friend's parents, and so many of my neighbors growing up. They've been living almost separate lives for years and Clay has no idea how his decision to move would throw Louise into a panic. I remember thinking 'she's so stubborn' about Louise at the beginning of the book. As author, Bette Lee Crosby developed the characters, I realized the things I didn't like about Louise were the same things I don't like about myself. As Louise worked through her issues, I had an opportunity to look at myself more objectively. By the end of the book I felt kindred to not only the characters but to the author as well. What a fabulously told tale of family, friendship, and what matters most.

This is the first book I've read by Bette Lee Crosby and I'm already adding some of her other writings to my bookshelf as "must reads".

Write on Bette Lee!

This was a very delightful story that I looked forward to getting back to at the end of a busy day.

Louise and Clay have been married for 30 years and have an established life in New Jersey and Louise is quite comfortable. She has raised two children and loves playing with her granddaughter who lives nearby and a circle of friends. Clay has worked at the bank for a number of years and is looking forward to retirement.

One day a letter comes in the mail to Clay. His Uncle Charlie has left him his property in Florida. Clay likes the idea and decides now is the time for him to retire and they will move to Florida. Louise is heartsick and has reasons in her past to make moving a traumatic event.

This is a light read and one that will endear you to the characters. There were some parts where I could relate to Louise and it pulled at my heartstrings. I found it to be very entertaining and can't wait to read another book by Bette Lee Crosby.

Book Review & Giveaway: I was delighted to discover bestselling author Bette Lee Crosby’s novels last year when we reviewed Spare Change. She writes heartwarming, touching stories which address important issues that come up during life’s journey, issues we sometimes don’t talk a lot about but probably should. So when she let me know she had a new book coming out, it was a no brainer to put What Matters Most on the review schedule. It has since become an award-winning novel, which it richly deserves.

What Matters Most hit home for me since I was making a drastic move, as does the main character in this story. I’m happy to see a novel about women and men approaching retirement age; however, I think this story will strike a chord for anyone who’s married. It will make a great anytime read. And one of you is going to win a copy at http://popcornreads.com/?p=6337.

Another heart warming novel by Bette Lee Crosby! I really loved this book and the characters in it. The story had such a great message that will stay with me at times when I get to feeling like Louise did. Changes are difficult yet part of life. And we must make the best of things.

I have enjoyed all of the novels that I have read by this author and I love this one best so far. It goes to show that an author doesn't have to be a best-selling author to write excellent books. I consider Bette Lee Crosby to be a top author because of the special messages you get from her writing. She definitely has a wonderful way with words!

I highly recommend that you read this book and be touched by it as I was.

Clay Palmer inherits a property in Florida. He decides to
retire and move there. Louise Palmer loves her current
home where they live in New Jersey. She does not want
to move so the story begins.
Emotionally packed read!! The story deals with allowing
oneself to break free of the past then willing walk into the
future. It's about the importance of love despite the bumps,
tribulations, trials, distresses, frustrations and minor
set-backs in life.
This book has some humorous, touching and moving parts
to the plot. The characters are well developed, realistic and.
interesting, They will pull at your heartstrings.
I volunteered to read this book. Thanks to the author for the
eBook. My opinion is my own.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book from the author. I jumped at the chance because I love her writing style.

This was the story of Louise Palmer. Having had a very insecure childhood and having found stability in Clay, her husband, she is happy to live the rest of her life in Westfield, NJ among her friends. A letter from Florida upturns Louise's life and she fights it tooth and nail, scheming the entire time. This is a book of love, friendship and new beginnings. It is written in Bette Lee Crosby's usual Southern Flair and tugged at my heartstrings.

I really enjoyed this book.

4.5 stars and a "Must Read" author for me.

I got so involved with the book this morning I was almost late getting to my daughter's house. It is an amazing book and very hard to put down. Can't wait to finish it!
Another amazing story by Bette Lee Crosby about family, friendship, love and changes in your life. Louise is happy where she is in her quaint little house until her husband inherits his uncle's house in Florida and decides he wants to retire from his stressful job and move there. Louis is very unhappy and does not want to change and leave all of her friends. She ends up fighting him every step of the way. The book will make you laugh and cry. I loved every minute of it. This book shows you truly "What Matters Most" in life.

Well-written and a great portrayal of how married folks (like everyone else) can listen but not hear! Also, a very realistic picture of one person trying to manipulate an another while the other one is trying to manipulate them. At our house we call it "playing" the martyr!" I liked the play between dialogue, being in the moment, and listening in on the couple's thoughts. Both had such extreme and very different fantasies - it was interesting to see how reality affected them. Didn't really like them but did find following their twists and turns compelling. I did enjoy the other characters - even the deceased one!

In a short space of time I have become a Bette Lee Palmer fan! I have read three of her books and enjoyed each one. The simple goodness of most people shines through her books and gives one new hope. Bette Crosby is an excellent storyteller with whom I will be visiting with regularly.

I am sure that all Bette's fans will enjoy this new work.
