I liked this book and chose this rating because the book is very motivational and easy to read. It is short, to the point, provides charts, and it is excellent for healthy people who want to start running. It is encouraging and not intimidating. It is also inspirational for people that have lapsed in their exercise program and need to get back on track. If you want to start running for the first time, or get back into it, read this book!
I enjoyed this book because it was simple, honest, and completely the way I started running several years ago. I had kind of slacked off my running, and picked up weight so I wanted to get back to running and picked up this book. It helped me remember why I started in the first place, great job! If you are looking for motivation for starting over, or you are a beginner runner the advice in this book is spot on. Get those shoes, get laced up, and get going!
This is a quick, easy read for anyone interested in losing weight by running. I don't remember him mentioning to check with your doctor to make sure that you are healthy enough to run, but it should be said. This book doesn't say much different information than other running booms, but it is shorter and to the point: put on shoes and go!
I've read a lot of books about running and it's a relief to finally come across one that is straight forward and reveals pertinent information regarding running. Other books made me feel like I had to be an athletic in order to run, however, this book has proved otherwise and made me feel comfortable enough to try pursuing to run, but on my own terms.
I'm tired of dieting. I want permanence and freedom from counting calories, carbs, points and the lot of them. Like the author, I believe moderation is key and movement is bonus. I like the first hand knowledge of what works and the encouragement to achieve a goal. This book saves time and gets to the heart of the matter. Just what a beginner needs.
The tips throughout the book are so simple. They serve as reminders of what needs to be done. The progress chart, if used, will allow one to see how many miles or minutes you can run. I'm hoping that after a month or so that my time and distance have increased.
Interesting mathematics on losing weight. Good tips for running and sticking to a plan. While it had without dieting in the title more nutritional and meal tips would be nice.
I enjoyed the Simplicity and straightforwardness of this book
It's not an enormous read, but a good guideline. I'm starting small and plan to do intervals. Now I have to mention that a couple of the links on the Kindle app did not work for me.
Concise, thorough, easy read. Highly recommended. I have not been running for a year and picked up this book- glad I did. It hit all the key elements of making running a habit for life.
I like the conversational style of the author - like he's standing in front of you. Good information and I really appreciate the chart! Can't wait to run my first 5k!
This is a good broad, sweet of an overview for running, but does not take special needs, or circumstances into consideration. It doesn’t even give a Nod to barefoot running, diabetes, altitude, and other situations that will be unique to an individual.
It has some spelling errors, and some 'toxic' associations of burning calories and stuff but overall pretty concise and great for beginners. Reads super super quick.
This was a quick read. Wish I had read it before starting a running program. Will recommend this book to new runners or people who think they would like to start.
What a great short read... To the point, loads of good hints and tips and also the added bonus of downloadable resources. Hopefully I can get back to running and use some to continue this time.
I can relate to Mike's before..that is exactly where I am now. I see people who are running and always think of how I wish I was a runner. I appreciate the author's approach to a no nonsense book geared towards the beginner and not filled with "entertainment." He offered great tips and ideas and most of all gave me the motivation to get off my butt and just run. It's a great short read. Definitely recommend for the person who is ready to make a change and is in need of a little motivation.
Short and sweet. An overview of how to start running and what makes running a great weight loss strategy. Includes a few great links to essential running tools like Podrunner and Road I.D. A more expansive source would be Run Your Butt Off! which actually includes a log to keep track of your training as well as a daily running schedule to follow. Also, the book makes no mention of Couch 2 5K, an essential resource for the beginning runner.
Even though I've read longer books before with this information in it I SO wish I would have found this the first time I started running. He gives you all the tools and motivation you need to get started not all the details you may want to read when your already a runner. This is the perfect book if your think I'll by of becoming a runner!
