minor characters, background characters, characters introduced in book three, ALL OF THEM AND THEIR MAMA TOO. my eyes have rolled so far back into my head from all the love island bullshit. the effect of this is that love stops meaning anything at all, because it is simply what happens to these people, hell it happens even to dragons. nobody feels anything when characters finally get together because getting together is just something everyone does eventually. thymara spent four books refusing to acknowledge a love triangle and her chapters inspired a consistent desire to skip them, not because the outcome was uncertain but because IT DID NOT MATTER. alise and the captain had an interesting romance in theory, like this sorta forbidden love, and then both of them stopped doing anything else of consequence for the rest of the series. malta and reyn became parents and the pregnancy received so much dedicated page time that i began to have dreams about it. i am aware that i am spoiled by hobb's earlier work, where relationships were quiet and devastating and cost people something. here they are just something that happens i guess i dont even know
