Heart throb, Terrance Davenport, is black, rich, and dying of lung cancer. Being granted only a few months to live, he constructs an idea on how to care for his four children in the event of his death. He comes up with an idea he calls, "The Arrangement". The only problem is convincing his wife and the two mothers’ of his children of his idea.
"The Arrangement", is all three women must agree to move into one house for six months with their kids in order to receive any money from his will.
When Terrance’s wife, Tanya learns the details of "The Arrangement" she is disgusted. She has basically put her life on hold after becoming pregnant to take care of her husband. She finds herself emotionally drawn to her husband’s best friend for comfort, as her husband’s illness takes a toll on her. Eventually, she finds herself facing her own demise and loses everything she has come to love
Portia Jackson is the mother of two of Terrance’s children. She owns her own hair salon, drinks like a fish, and stays in brand name clothing. She is a rude, no nonsense, type of woman who makes it her business to let everyone know what she feels, or thinks, no matter whose feelings get hurt in the process. After a secret she has held on to for years threatens her inclusion in "The Arrangement", her world begins to crumble around her. Afraid of losing the glamorous life she is accustomed to having, she will stop at nothing to keep it.
Amber Sykowski is the mother of Terrance’s oldest son. She comes from a long line of money and has always been ridiculed by her racist mother for having a bi-racial child. She feels the only way to escape her mother's disapproval is to go against everything she was taught, and make her own rules. When it almost costs her life, Amber has to make a hard decision that could turn her entire world upside down.
In several unexpected events all three women eventually come to depend on each other forming a unique and unexpected bond. Will "The Arrangement' help them all to learn the value of forgiveness, love, and friendship?
The question that kept going through my mind when I read this book was. What hell kind of Jerry Springer shit is this? It was weird not in a something with tentacles coming out the closet kind of weird, but in a sister wives kind of way. It was addictive like those awful reality shows, where you are horrified that you actually enjoying it and want to look away, but you can't because you have to see what happens next.
What do you get when you come across a successful heart throb of a man, known as Terrance Davenport who is dying of stage four lung cancer and has a wife, two baby mama's, 3 kids and one on the way? You call it The Arrangment!
The Arrangment is an idea Terrance comes up with when he finds out he only has a few more months to live, the only problem with this idea, is that the people it involves do not get along at all. Tanya who is the wife of Terrance and pregnant with their first child. Since becoming pregnant she has put her life and dreams on hold to take care of her sick husband. Tanya knows that her husband is by far the perfect man or husband but she loves him anyways and since she took her vows of till death due them part she is willing to see that through at this tough time. When Tanya learns about The Arrangment she is disgusited, she feels why should she have to be a part of that as wife. Dealing with way more than she can handle, the stress of her husbands sickness, the baby mama drama, and being pregnant she finds hersel drawn to her husbands best friend for comfort. Will her betrayal to her husband be their downfall or will things get a lot worse before they get better?
Portia Jackso is the mother of two o Terrance's children. She is the ghetto baby mother that neither Tanya or Amber can stands, it seems that whenever Portia is around some drama is slowly following her. She is very flashy into name brand everything, has a serious drinking problem, and has no filter. She says whatever comes to mind regardless of whose feelings she may hurt. With all the drama that surrounds her and that she brings around everyone, when her own drama bites her in the face will she loose her chance at the arrangment or will this finally be the wake up call she has needed all along?
Amber is the mother of Terrance oldest son. She has always come from a long line of money, even though she has had to deal with her racist mother since her son is biracial. Her mother hates the ground that Terrance walks on and his family. Everytime he is mentioned she yells and makes faces and even begins to talk about the man in front of his son. Things with Ambers mother are going from bad to worse as she disapproves everything that she does. So when she learns of the Arrangment she has to think what will be best for her and her son. But could making the decision turn her world in complete chaos?
I was hearing so much about this book and decided to just sit down and read it. I started it yesterday and finished it today. It was told such a good book that I enjoyed. I wasnt sure what to expect while reading it but I came out really enjoying it. These three women are a mess, they all have the same bound which is the love that they share for Terrance, but they cant seem to get along in any form. They all go through their own challenges during the story that they have to deal with. There are things that I didnt see coming in the story that I was like wow I did not see that coming at all. There are twist and turns and the drama keeps going. I dont want to say too much because I dont want to give away the secrets the ending shocked me i couldnt believe that. Some say the end end was a little off not exactly what they expected i guess i see where they could say you was expected more, but it kind of ended like a reality show when they give a blurb of what happened to each person. Watch how three women who cant stand each other soon find a bond that will help them learn what love and friendship and even forgiveness is. Great read, drama and action packed, lies and secrets revealed, I couldnt put the book down. Great job to the author!
Terrence Davenport is a successful man that comes with a lot of drama. After learning about a illness he has he comes up with a plan to make sure that his children are taken care of in his absence.
Tanya Davenport has been a loving wife to her husband. After becoming pregnant she has put her life on hold. When she finds out about her husband and his illness and his plan dealing with the arrangement she is disgusted. As all this information takes a toll on her he finds herself in the arms of a forbidden man.
Portia Jackson is the mother of Terrence Youngest children. She is the worst of them all. Use to living the high lifestyle she is automatically labeled hood rich. When she past catches up to her she finds out the at you can only live the high life for so long you will come down to reality. Which leads her to The arrangement.
Amber Sykowski the mother to Terrance oldest son has it all. Coming from a family with money has never been an issue for her.Her family has issues of there own which makes it hard for Terrance to deal with her family. Once Amber puts down her foot down she finds that the arrangement is just whats she needs.
When all these ladies get together the drama will be brought. The truths will be told and a bond will be made.
Great job on this story. It had just the right drama, twist and turns. I was on the edge.I could not put this books down. The ending could've been better but i'm glad that it left no unanswered questions. Can't wait to read more from this author.
I'm not a big fan of baby mama drama books, but since this was my required Monthly book, I sucked it up and read. The storyline was good a "Dying" man just wanting to make sure his children by 3 women were all raised together, however the way Terrance went about doing it was all wrong. Wife Tanya, 1st baby mama Amber & ghetto baby mama Portia all find a way to grant Terrance his "Dying" wish; but through it all they learn that everybody doesn't have their best interest in hand. I'm actually giving this book 3.5 I still don't know what to think about the ending.
This is one of those books that once it gets going you can and will not put it down. Amazing story twists and turns. And it does not leave any unanswered questions I really loved that. I hate to read a stand alone book and feel like wtf just happened? Did I miss something? The characters are the type you hate them you like them you feel bad for them and then you understand them. GREAT READ can't wait to see more from this author.
I almost gave this book 3 stars but the last quarter of the book really pulled me in and brought my rating up to a 4. There were a few inconsistencies but all in all the story was well written and took a turn I wasn't expecting. This was my first book by this author and she didn't disappoint. If you're a fan of drama you will like this cause it's chalk full of it,maybe even a little over the top with it but it keeps you entertained for sure!
A terminally ill man believes he can force his pregnant wife and two mothers of his other children to live together under the same roof after he passes away.
This was a very good read and nothing was ever what it seemed throughout this story. Shay Gray has certainly written a tale a fair amount of intrigue and lots of laughs.
(4.5) Very good book with a lot of drama, twist and turns, the storyline was unique and very interesting..I would definitely like to read more from this author..Good Job
This was a great read. I enjoyed the characters and the plot. I love the way Ms Gray wrote this book. The ending was such a surprise. I say a must read.
I really enjoyed this book!! The end was not what I expected.. in a good way. it's amazing what ppl do for money. There were some grammar errors here and there, but over all its a good read.
After the last page of this book, I feel dizzy. It is as though I'd just ridden the fastest roller coaster in the states. Each character is well rounded and living a full life. A life that no one would take from them. There is Terrance, the man in the middle of it all. He seems to turn a switch on in these women. All the women lose their minds for a moment or two in anger, jealousy, regret, past memories, etc. The women are: Tanya, Terrence's wife, Portia and Amber. Amber is "the white girl." Three words which Portia seems to use many times when talking about Amber. The book is divided into the voices of each character. This gave me a chance to hear how that person was feeling about all that was going on. Portia has two children by Terrance. Amber has one child and Tanya is expecting a baby.
I think the novel is smart. I've seen lots of baby drama books. Never tried one thinking how creative can a person get with a story where there is nothing but unhappiness and the man pulls the strings of the women. This is about more than baby drama. It's about more than Terrance while also being about Terrance. I also can't leave out Terrance's best friend, Jason. The sorrows faced by these women are monumental especially Portia's loss. Not sure Portia was painted with the right emotions for what she was going through at that time. However, I guess Portia is just Portia. Not sure I would have liked her as a person anyway. So I might involuntarily misinterpret her feelings.
Amber's experiences are wild. They are just what you would expect to happen with a white girl dating a black man. Amazing how Amber's mother's past tumbles up into Amber's drama and almost ends life's journey for three or four people. Tanya, I think, is the most mature of all the women. This seemed right because she is the woman who wears Terrance's ring. The ending became so wildly imaginative I almost lost who was who or who was dead or not dead or.......It's like the same roller coaster flipped over. If I hadn't held on tightly, I would have fallen out. I enjoyed THE ARRANGEMENT by SHAY GRAY so much. I do have a warning. In the beginning there is profanity. There are quite a few curse words. The story is so well written I skipped over "those" words and read on to the next page. This book is a page turner.
I read this book at the recommendation of members of my book club and I am so glad that I did. Being an avid reader of urban fiction, I was pleasantly surprised at how different the story line is. It was interesting, compelling and unique and I enjoyed the book as well as the characters. The story was well developed and there were a ton of surprises at every turn. Once I began reading The Arrangement it was hard to put down. Portia made me want to snatch her head off but she definitely contributed to the interesting element of the book. I give The Arrangement 4.5* stars because the ending was far fetched and unbelievable but other than that I would recommend this read.
This was a really good book. The twists that came were unexpected. Terrance was a very controlling person that made 3 women who loved have a more difficult time than they needed to. Would highly recommend this book.
I must admit I enjoyed this book. While part of the ending was as I expected, there was also a big suprise that wasnt expected. I am sure there will be a sequel and I will be reading it.
This book was a good book it got me at the end I couldn't believe Terrance faked his own death but he pulled it off and got away with and none of the women in his life knew he did it!!!!
