Thank you Nely for the chance to read this book.
Deus is a short story with the action settled long before Creatura and it speaks about the creation of Terra and the creation of humans. It is actually connected somehow with the main book of the series, but you don’t need to read them in order so that you can understand it.
I finished this really fast and I started it right after I received it. I wasn’t planning to do so, but the book made me interested right from the start and I am not joking: the first sentence is great, you just read that part and you will feel compelled to read the rest.
Deus is the almighty God, he created everything and he is taking care of everything on Terra, until one day he realizes that he feels alone, and because of this he creates Starr. The only thing is that she is not exactly what he expected, but in a weird way she was what he wanted and needed. I liked her personality, the way she grew stronger and more confident in a short period of time and if I dare to say that in the end she was much more than her creator.
Deus is a beautiful love story set at the dawn of time. It’s a story of discovery and learning in which both Starr and Deus start of as being innocent and naïve. What I found fascinating is the fact that Deus was using time travel to learn from the humans in the future.
This was a fast, fresh, funny and sad at the same time love story. :)

Nely Cab is an an AMAZING AUTHOR! I was SO HOOKED on her book Creatura that I thought about it for days!
After reading Deus, I am SO FREAKING excited to find out what Nely has in store for us next. I love this novella. I was told it "ties into Creatura A LITTLE bit" so there are no spoilers to Creatura in it. Seeing life through Deus and Starr's eyes is amazing. I love how the story played out and the detail that could picture in my mind. This story reminds me of a popular story that is known world wide. I don't want to give it away but I will say, I like this version better :) ENJOY!!!!

Deus: A Creatura Novella is an intriguing tale enlightening us to the creation of the world found in Creatura. Deus and Starr provided intense and comical dialog that kept me enchanted all the way til the end. As each page bestowed insights to the beginning of Creatura, my curiosity was quenched as well as stimulated, piquing my interest in to what happens next. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!

Having won this book as my first First Reads book, I was very excited and got started pretty much right away. I had read the synopsis, but still didn't know quite what to expect going in.
But it intrigued me from the very first page. Deus is a very unique story that manages to combine lots of different aspects from the universe. It's not often you come across a book that's full of mythology and Latin, but also mentions "I Love Lucy" and phrases like "a demented chicken". I found it very refreshing.
I love how this book made me think about ethics, free will and even how best intentions can end up feeling like betrayal.
However, I didn't care much for the final third of the book. It took a direction that, in my opinion, didn't suit the rest of the story. It irked me that while it started out as a very open-minded book that encouraged you to philosophize, it abruptly shifted to the slighlty depressing part of a regular romance novel mixed with the white picket fence dream. The main characters both changed drastically and the whole thing just lost part of its appeal.
I have to admit that the end was nice and quirky, but I would have loved Deus to end in the same atmosphere as the majority of the book was written in.
The reason for my -for lack of a better word- "grave disappointment" is that I really loved the majority of this book. And because I did enjoy it for the most part, and the fact that it has still made me very curious about the rest of the Creatura series, I'm giving this book 4 stars. Also, the fact that part of me wished this book was a proper novel instead of a novella shows it was definitely worth the read.
P.S. I also want to take this opportunity to thank Nely Cab for giving away copies of Deus. You really bring something new to the table and your style of writing and your imaginary worlds are amazing.

“Deus” is a short story, prequel to Creatura by Nely Cab. Amazing story, I loved it!! It’s a quick read, you can read it in just one hour.But it’s very captivating, introducing us in the world of Creatura. Nely’s writing-style is different from the one in Creatura, but as good as the one in Creatura. Of course, the book is written from Deus’ point of view so the difference is normal and I find it great.
As for the story, I found it adorable, sad and interesting. It was quite weird to read a book where the main subject was the creation of Terra and humans. “Deus” is not a just a fantasy book, but a book that you can understand things about life, people and love. Speaking of love, Deus and Starr were cute from the start!!
Oh yeah, and I loved Starr from the start.She had moments when was childish, but she als had moments when ‘maturity’ was written all over her! Such a complex character!
I definitely recommend “Deus’. It’s a quick, fun, lovely short story written by Nely Cab. You should pick it up before you read “Creatura”. Oh, just read one of them, you’ll love Nely’s books.

Nely Cab has done it again with her amazing imagination! I want to live in the world Nely has created in this sweet story!
Deus is in the process of creating the universe when he thinks of how nice it would be to share it with someone, plus he’s lonely, so he creates Starr. He has also created a world for them to live in as husband and wife but she is not what he expected and has her own ideas. I loved how you’re able to see things through the eyes of Deus and Starr. It's great to know what each one is thinking. I am a night reader, so I picked up Deus (which is a Creatura Novella) to do a bit of light reading. Nely Cab has captivated me once again in this magical world of wonder. No not Disney Land, I am talking about Deus. Deus is not just a prequel to Creatura and how things began but so much more.
Deus has created Starr and a world for them to live in side by side as husband and wife. However, things don't seem to be working the way he had hoped. Starr is stubborn and doesn't like to be told what to do or to have decisions made for her. She fights Deus all the way to the end.That is until her world and her loves existence are at risk and she makes the ultimate sacrifice.

Deus by Nely Cab is a nice, short, sweet read. It is about a boy named Dues who creates the world (yes like God)who then wants to know what love is so he creates a young girl called Starr. They grow up from boy and girl to man and woman, while seeing the future (hard to explain but great to read).
I suggest buying this book. I loved how the characters find each other and the conflicts they go through.
It is a great and amazing read. I can't wait to read more of Nely Cab's books :D

What an amazing novella! Nely Cab has put a creative spin on not only creation but the turmoil between men and women! From the beginning of time the male/female banter has been a curiosity but no longer!! Nely has weaved a story that will draw you in and hook you into a fantasy world from the very beginning, literally! 5 out of 5 stars for Deus by Nely Cab.

Freaking amazing! Heartbreaking and hilarious. I literally laughed out loud more than once and I may have even shed a tear or two. This book is short, sweet and leaves you wanting more.

This is the story of Deus, the god that created everything and his partner Starr. This prequel was confusing to me on many levels. The story bounced from Deus’ point of view to Starr’s, then they jump time periods, and finally, even though Deus is the god who created everything, he has a voice of reason that tells him certain things (not giving away spoilers). This is a very short read, and I did read it after the series, but I recommend that it be read first (my opinion). For the listed reasons, I would give this story 3.5 stars.

Review:
Protagonists: This story begins with the creation of the world and with it, it's creator Deus. Deus comes into the world in a human like body and because of that he experiences human emotions and sometimes needs to be guided by his voice of reason. Now, I don't really have a problem with this except I never really got an almighty creator vibe from Deus and at times that really hurt his character. I get that in order to relate to his character he needs to experience human emotions and such, but it was really heavy handed and lead to me forgetting he was an almighty being at times. Then there's Starr. Starr is the woman Deus created from himself and in his image. She's probably the best part about this story. Starr isn't as powerful as Deus and because of that her outbursts and uninformed choices seemed normal and blended in well with the story. Overall both of these characters would be great if they were human or even only as powerful as Starr, but Deus' excessive power and Creator responsibility really only took away from the story.
Romance: So yes, this book is a romance. In fact I would say that the romance takes up a very large part of the overall plot. In truth I really enjoyed the romance. It didn't happen to fast and it didn't happen too slow, and it was reminiscent of a love story I've heard before but can't quite remember the name of. My only real problem with the romance is that since these two people are virtually the only characters in the story there isn't anything keeping them apart but themselves and because of that it leads them to do some pretty stupid things. The biggest thing causes a huge wave of consequences and may or may not have led me to shout incessantly at my iPad and these two characters.
World-Building: So I haven't yet read Creatura, though I will read and review it for next week, but this book still offers a good amount of world-building, and sometimes literally. This tale, as far as I can tell is the creation myth for this world and the Creator's own love story. It also holds a, at least from my perspective, tie to the main novel, Creatura. As an avid mythology lover I was really excited to read about this world. The mythology while barely scratching the surface was fun, interesting, and fairly in depth for such a short novella.
Predictability: With this not only being such a short novella and the story being a very straight forward one there wasn't all that much to predict, but there were a few choice moments that were very surprising. These moments, while not too great of shocks added a richness to the story and made this novella feel full of life and precious moments.
Ending: This novella ends with an epilogue of sorts which really helped tie this story together. I was sort of hoping for a bit more of a preview as to what may happen in Creatura, and granted, since I haven't read it, this novella may have very well contained many links between this story and that. In the end, no pun intended, this ending was really great and I cannot wait to explore more of this world with Creatura.

My Review:
Okay, to be honest with you guys, I actually didn't really understand the setting of the story in the beginning. It was a bit jumbled up to me and I was reading it going like what? but I read on and soon enough the story began to take place and form. Then I found 'Prelude' a pretty enjoyable read.
Let's talk about the cover. I think the cover is beautiful! It's a picture of Starr (I think, and I'll tell you who she is later on), and one look at the cover made me think wow! The cover is truly amazing! I want to read this! even if I wasn't doing the blog tour. The colours also contrasted making the cover look even more attracting, giving it a distinguishing look. Round of applause to whoever designed the cover!
Although there isn't really much plot in the book, I still felt that it had something tugging at me that wanted to read on. Like an invisible rope that was tugging me to keep on scrolling down the pages and read. I felt the pacing wasn't too slow and dull (for instance, Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead is a very slow read) at all, I think it got straight to the point, and the writing style was great.
Anyways, back to the plot, 'Prelude' is a really nice written book about two lovers; Deus and Starr, the only two people in the Universe. The story starts off with Deus, the creator, who makes Starr to be his companion, but Starr doesn't want to be Deus's companion, and it goes on about the two and how they overcome their challenges. I also found the book really cute and sweet because of the two. The book also had quite a few feels in it, so it wasn't all that gushy all the time. Wait, actually, I didn't feel that 'Prelude' was too gushy at all, because it consisted the perfect amount of gushiness and plot at the same time. And I'm pretty surprised I didn't roll my eyes in a romance novel that I usually *shhh!* do.
The story wasn't the most original. I mean, the author created the setting with places like Caelum and Terra, but there wasn't much originality in the story. I do understand that it is hard to create a unique storyline for a romance novel, but I just felt that it could have been more of a twist in it.
The book is told by the two characters in the story; Deus and Starr. They both have their opinions listed clearly in the story, and I felt that the author made the character's personalities likable. Deus is so patient and kind, and Starr is sympathetic and independent. I really think the author did a good job with the characters, because I felt that I could understand them, and feel them at the time their perspectives were being read. Though I felt that the author could have added some more description of the characters because I couldn't really imagine the appearance of the characters in the story.
I felt like 'Prelude' did have feels in it, but just not as much as other stories I read. But overall, I think it was a pretty decent read and I'm looking forward to reading the 'Creatura' series by Nely Cab too!

Being the Creator sometimes has its drawbacks. Most especially when there's a woman involved. From the moment Deus created Starr, he knew his life would change. Although he made her to be his companion, she turned out to be something else entirely. She's willful, demanding (sometimes), and beautiful. She makes him feels things no one else ever has. Granted, she's the only one in existence during their timestream. Aside from the animals and flora he's created, of course.
Determined to make things work between them, Deus concocts a plan to make Starr happy in every way possible. Though that notion doesn't always work out to his advantage, he'll do whatever he can to help her understand the world they live in. At first, things are a little shaky between them, but soon, they come to know one another in many ways.
As he comes to understand Starr, and what makes her who she is, Deus soon realizes that things are changing rapidly within him. Though Starr herself may not notice anything outright, he knows he can't help himself when it comes to her. He's begun to love her in more ways than one. The thought is mind-boggling, at first, but he soon warms up to the idea.
Change is coming. He can feel it in his very soul. Though he's not sure as to what it'll mean for him and Starr. If only he could hold on to the way things are now. It would keep things stable between them. Sadly, he knows there's no delaying what will come their way. Deep inside, he hopes they'll be able to whether the storm. After all, they were meant to be together. The question is, how can he truly make her happy when she's not exactly what he'd thought she'd be from the get-go?
I think this is a good prequel to the Creatura series. We get a sense of who Deus and Starr really are. Their relationship isn't easy one, but they do everything possible to co-exist. It's refreshing to see the more human side of such a deity. Starr's willfulness complements Deus' innocence. At least, I think so. Although he grows up along the way, as does Starr, Deus still retains a child-like quality and naïveté that makes him endearing to the reader. Looking forward to more of this lovely world Nely has created.

After all, they were meant to be together. The question is, how can he truly make her happy when she's not exactly what he'd thought she'd be from the get-go?
I think this is a good prequel to the Creatura series. We get a sense of who Deus and Starr really are. Their relationship isn't easy one, but they do everything possible to co-exist. It's refreshing to see the more human side of such a deity. Starr's willfulness complements Deus' innocence. At least, I think so. Although he grows up along the way, as does Starr, Deus still retains a child-like quality and naïveté that makes him endearing to the reader. Looking forward to more of this lovely world Nely has created.

This is the cutest, sweetest book I have ever read. Simply beautiful.
The book takes place in the same world as Creatura. It tells the full love story of Deus and Starr. We get a glimpse of this in Creatura but now the fans can read the full story. I did not think that it was necessary to read Creatura to read Deus nor is it necessary to read this to read Creatura. But it is definitely worth the read.
Deus created the world or Terra as it is known and as he did not want to enjoy it alone, he created from himself a companion, Starr. However, this idea did not work out as he had planned as he soon discovers when he realises that Starr has a mind and will all on her own. He realises that he must not take this away from her, even though he can, because a person's feelings should not be manipulated.
Starr is affronted by the knowledge that she was created for the sole purpose of being the companion to Deus. She does not like that she had no choice in the matter and that there is no other meaning to her existence.
The story is told from both their perspectives, following the year in which they learn to live and love and grow, from the children they started out as to mature adults.
Nely Cab has a beautiful way with words. She creates an amazing world with poetic language that has no rival in modern story telling. In this story she uniquely portrays the creation of the world, it's gods and the existence of humanity.
I loved this book because of the adorable way in which Deus and Starr grew up together, learning and maturing instead of being instantly wise and all-knowing. I liked how they learned from humanity and had to figure out how to survive on their own.
In conclusion I give this book 5 stars, for the descriptions, language, originality and simply charming story. This is the perfect book for an afternoon read.

I have loved Creatura ever since Ms. Cab introduced to us a wondrous, mystical, and magical story back in 2011, when I won my very first print copy.
As I sit here typing this review, I have so many thoughts in my head about this compelling story that I just finished reading, and of course, I don’t want to talk too much for fear I will give something important away. Though, I do have to tell you that Prelude has once again captured my heart and made me love this author’s writing style even more. I was so addicted to this story that I actually read it in an hour.
I really enjoyed the characters in this story. I did feel sorry for Deus and his feelings throughout this story along with Starr’s feelings as well. The details were so vivid that I had a movie in my head from beginning to end. I actually had tears in my eyes for most of the story. There is so much love, joy, happiness, sadness, and an unforgettable and fabulous ending.
This is a phenomenal story that will suck you in heart and soul and may even keep a piece of it in the story when you finish reading it. This is a recommended MUST read!!

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this novella, if I'm being honest. I read this before I read Creatura or Fruit of Misfortune, and I must say that it helped me understand some of the concepts of the Creatura novels.. BUT, it does not have to be read before Creatura or Fruit of Misfortune. Prelude reads well as a stand-alone, and it also doesn't have to be read to understand the two novels, as Prelude features different characters than the ones in the Creatura novels.
Starr is a fiery character, and certainly made me laugh a lot. Deus' description of wives had me cracking up:
There is certainly some drama in this novella, more so towards the end where everything seems to be like a big black hole. Or like dementors, which is what I think of when all the happiness is sucked out of the world. You won't want to skip reading this novella, even if it isn't necessary to understand the Creatura. It would be a five, but I felt there could have been a little more spark that would have absolutely made me love it. Therefore, Prelude gets 4/5 Platypires!

Well, I'm crying. Why did this have to end lol. Prelude gives us a look into Dues (the Creator) and Starr (his companion). I was full of every darn emotion you could think of while reading this. I am glad that this wasn't one of those "love at first sight" type of books because it made me fall in love with this couple even more and made me root for them from beginning to end. I was curious about Dues and Starr when they were introduced in Creatura and I am not disappointed at all. Dues creates this beautiful women who has a fiery attitude and wit but she doesn't love him like he wants her too, but he falls in love with her anyway. Again, why did this have to end?!?! I must say, Nely, I am thankful I got to see into your world and I loved every second reading this series thus far! I can't wait to see how this series ends!

Gratifying Romance Leaving You Tear Bound!
Nely Cab is an YA romance goddess herself!
I was having doubts in the beginning of the book for me. It was really going anywhere. But I stuck to it because I wanted some more background information from her last book Creatura. All I got to say I glad I did.
Although it wasn't romantic as Creatura, Nely still pulled it off for me. I love the world she brought me to and I couldn't help but fall for another male leading roles of hers, Deus. I loved how he waited patiently for Star to fall for him and how her cared for her. I also had tears in my eyes towards the ending.
The one and only thing I did not like about it was...Why did it have to end?? I wanted to read more and more.
After reading this book it made me even stir-crazier for the next book to come out. I would highly recommend this book to all.

I read Creatura and was immediately hooked into the story. Readers learned of the creator God, Deus, and his companion Goddess, Starr, in that first book. In Prelude, we are given a glimpse of just who and what Deus and Starr are, and how they relate to the world.
Anytime an author is able to transfer a reader into a whole new box, away from what is considered the scholars standard...the norm...I get excited! I think it takes skill as a writer to accomplish that. To my mind, Ms. Cab has done that and so much more with the take on creation used for her books. I could not read this fast enough. This one is not super intense, but it is enlightening...for the characters and the reader! What I learned in this novella, will help give better solidarity to the next book in the series.

I've always loved when an author takes the time to expand on part of the world-building that is brought up in the main books of a series, and that's definitely the case with Prelude. This is a book that focuses more on the mythology of the world, and things that had happened before the events of the main story. In my mind, it helps to flesh out the story, while allowing a reader to learn more. With that said, I definitely enjoyed reading more about Deus and Starr. I loved the interaction between the two of them, and there were a couple of moments when I laughed out loud.
It was interesting to see how their relationship progressed over the course of the story. Even though Prelude is a novella length story, I definitely enjoyed reading it, and give it a rating of 5/5 stars.

Prelude as the name suggests is a prequel to Nely Cab’s (must read for the romantics out there) novel – Creatura.
Well first off can we all just take a moment and appreciate the GORGEOUS cover?! It is so damn good!
I’ll admit at first I was a bit confused, but hang on to it; it gets better.
With two very strong willed characters – Deus and Starr, Prelude gives us Creatura fans a little something to tide us over till the next book. I loved the book world created and the writing style flowed beautifully.
Although, not as obviously romantic as Creatura, Prelude has its charms.
What I take away from the book is this – Love is complicated, love is lethal, and hope saves us all.

Prelude is a novella set in the Creatura universe, it's the full story of Deus and Starr that David told Isis in Creatura. Deus creates Starr to be his wife, but Starr has a mind of her own and doesn't really care what Deus wants her to do. I really enjoyed reading their story and I absolutely loved this book. I laughed out loud many times while I read it. The author has a great sense of humor and the ability to make her characters vividly real. I felt sorry for Deus (sometimes) and just loved Starr. *I was given a free copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions in this review are my own.

I had read Creatura and absolutely loved it before I decided to get Prelude. Prelude was an interesting little short story and it help verify a theory I had in Creatura. Prelude was an origin story and gave me more insight into the Creatura world.

Deus (the Creator) created, he created a wife (Star) who was annoying as hell but had some valid points, he created the world and he created himself. He had to learn just like anyone else. Deus wasn't perfect and was likeable a though a little clueless.
Prelude is a totally new story to the Creatura world, it has an interesting plot and is worth getting.

Reading this short novella was like dealing with a hormonal teenager. One second you want to kill them, then you are laughing with them, and then they make you want to cry! And then the cycle begins again!
Nely Cab has done a wonderful, creative job bringing to light how one of her main characters comes to be. Her imagination is astounding and afterward I sit there thinking "How in the world did she come up with that?". Her novella spans from the beginning of creation to future generations and the lessons learned last a lifetime.

I wasn't sure about it at first, since it was another part of the series with different characters... But I loved it. I laughed, I cried... Definitely a must read. Now I want to read Creatura again.
Nely did an amazing job with this book. You don't need to read it before Creatura, it works fine as a stand alone, and it was wonderful. I read this book while recovering from getting my wisdom tooth pulled, and it did such a great job I forgot I was in a whole heck of a lot of pain as I got swept into the story.
Highly recommend this series to everyone, because it is that great.

Deus is the creator of everything. He is immortal. However, he is also lonely. Wanting a partner, he creates Starr to keep him company. Starr remembers all his "touching" during her creation and comes to life feeling violated. Slowly she matures and Deus is drawn to her even more. He takes her to different times in the world he has created in the hopes she will love him.. But will she ever get past the fact that he created her for that express reason? Read this wonderful book and see if the love growing between them is enough!

Amazing Story
Short story but a great one. I actually really liked the fact that it was short and sweet. Love story but not your typical. Starr plays a cute part. Deus is very patient. I can visualize how they both grow up and older.
I got thrown for a tail spin towards the middle, almost sad, but it comes back around happy.
Don't want to give away the whole story.
I suggest reading it. Very enjoyable, straight to the point... happy, love, sad, more happy and more love. Not dragged out like other books I've read though.
Going for book two now....
