Bruce "Bruiser" Mackey's story (running back)

All you'll ever be is a pretty face...

Star running back Bruce “Bruiser” Mackey has heard those words his entire life, especially after his twin brother’s tragic accident. He might use his surfer-boy good looks to land lucrative endorsements for his secret charity, but he hates books being judged by their covers. Which is why it’s wrong that his friend MacKenzie Hernandez is intent on giving herself a makeover.

Sure, Mac and her father have been reeling financially since her brother disappeared three years ago, and Lumberjacks management gives an annual scholarship that might get her life back on track, but he can’t imagine anyone smarter, sexier, or more beautiful than Mac already is. He can’t keep his hands off her—and the more they spend time together, the less he wants to. She’s perfect as is. One way or another, he’ll make sure the team’s tomboy greenskeeper gets a full ride. And between the two of them, they can learn to accept what’s behind them and look downfield to a future full of win.

Where to start!

I honestly didn't think I would like Bruce "Bruiser" Mackey, he just never seemed like a character you could find anything more than his face to like, but even then he liked himself more...or does he?

I love the lumberjacks series and I am seriously hoping we have more, especially Brett's book, cannot wait for that one.

This story is centred on a seemingly self absorbed Bruiser, who is basically an empty book with a pretty cover so no one cares to open it up and look inside. But in reality he is a gripping novel waiting to be discovered. Open the pretty wrapping and you get a seriously messed up man who hides himself to protect his heart.

Mac - Mackensie Hernandez is the groundskeeper tomboy, with drab cloths, dirty fingernails and could care less about being girly. She is one of the boys, a buddy, a pal, someone the "gorgeous people" overlook. But when image is everything she has to suck it up and bring the beauty she has on the inside to the surface. Mac is also battling a lonely life as her father is addicted to searching for her missing brother and has roped Mac into searching for him, but at the expenses off her own happiness.

The pair look beneath the superficial to find what is hidden and really special

A beautiful story that easily earns five star status x

How can I call myself a sports romance addict? I just realized that Backfield in Motion is my first Jami Davenport book! (This will be rectified, ASAP). Backfield in Motion is the fourth book in her Seattle Lumberjacks series. So, obviously you can pick this book up without already reading other books in this series, because this is exactly what I did and I enjoyed every single page.
This excerpt was the first thing I highlighted while reading this story- it drew me in..

Just one of the guys.

Usually she didn't give a shit about being one of the guys, because it was the truth, only today it pissed her off for some reason. Maybe because he'd caught her gawking at his privates, something she never, effing ever did. Heck her maintenance and grounds position at the Lumberjacks practice facility put her in direct contact with several tons of muscular egos, many partially dressed or even naked. They never bothered to cover up around her, and she'd never cared because she was like one of the guys.

Until today.

Until the man she'd harbored a secret crush on for the past three years stated that fact out loud.

I loved the tomboy with a hidden beauty story. Mac has dedicated her life to helping her father discover what happened to her brother. Bruiser has been seen as just another pretty face his entire life and committed to making himself look the part while hiding who he is inside. He fights an attraction to Mac before her makeover. Once the "She-Wolves" aka the Lumberjack player's wives get ahold of her plain Mac becomes knockout Mackenzie and Bruiser can't fight the attraction.

These two both want and deep down need each other and when they finally come together they really burn up the pages. I will never again ride a ferry boat and not remember this story.... you will just have to read this to know what I am talking about.. my lips are zipped from here on out! :)

If you love sports romance you will love this book, if you love an emotional book with a mysterious backstory this is also a great read. After being introduced to other Lumberjacks and their wives in this story I feel like I have to read the first three books in this series because I want more. This series is definitely on my auto-buy list going forward! I give this book 5 STARS and am adding it to my BOOKS I REALLY LIKED shelf on Goodreads!

Bruiser and Mac's story is by far my favorite in the Seattle Lumberjack series to-date. I think this writer gets better and better with every book. Jami Davenport writes really strong males. Her heroes come alive on the page and Mac is the perfect foil for this latest hero. She sees beyond his pretty face and playboy facade to the sensitive underbelly of this genuinely sexy footballer. Since I love mysteries, I was glad to see on in this book, too. I read this late into the night, or should I say early morning hours, unable to put it down.

The love scenes sizzle. It's a Beauty and The Beast, Cinderella story with a few delicious surprises thrown in that will tug and your heartstrings and make you fall in love with this couple. Definitely Recommend. LOVED it!!!!

As a fan of sports-themed romances I was immediately drawn to this book and for the most part there's much amongst the pages to enjoy. There's a likable main couple along with a cast of equally likable secondary characters who have been seen in the previous books in this series. Though these characters play a big part in bringing the main protagonists together it's not necessary to have read the previous installments of this series to enjoy this release.

Mac has always been a tomboy more comfortable around men than woman. She likes being one of the boys except when she sees the super sexy Bruiser who she's been attracted to for years. She'd love for him to see her as a woman he wants to spend time with and when the chance at career advancement means dressing up more girly their previous flirty relationship becomes something more. For years though her life has been devoted to finding out her missing brother's whereabouts who they think has met with foul play. It's become an obsession for her father and obligation has her following along behind him as they investigate. With both of the protagonist's futures ruled by events in their pasts neither is willing to admit that their steamy sexual interludes could become permanent. But when a wounded child comes into their lives he becomes the catalyst for them to finally put the past behind to reach their HEA in a subtle, no less romantic, conclusion. Mac is an immensely likable heroine with a no-nonsense attitude. She's made the best out of what life has handed her, never complaining. She's strong-willed and I enjoyed seeing her slow acceptance and pleasure when embracing girly things and its affect on Bruiser.

Bruiser has had sadness in his past too with an ex-wife who broke his heart and a death that weighs heavily on him and that's guided his entire life. Since becoming a football player he's seen as the poster boy with only good looks and partying to his name. To enforce that image he's always dated models and other women only looking for fun. His attraction to Mac evolves slowly as he likes her as a friend at first until her makeover makes him see her as a lover. With his superficial past he thinks he'll hurt her but as his deeper layers are revealed you see a man longing for love and the honesty and pureness of her soul has him addicted to Mac and trying to convince her of their path to a HEA. Bruiser is sexy and charming and used his looks in the past to get what he wanted. That way of life, a life he's lived in honor of another, has grown stale and I'm pleased to see him choose substance over style in a satisfying conclusion.

I enjoyed the mix of sports action and action between the sheets in an entertaining story with delightfully witty banter between Mac and Bruiser. Their playful moments brought a smile to my face and their romantic moments made me blush. They were a good match and brought out the best in each other while helping each other heal past hurts through numerous sexual encounters and the saving of a scarred young boy. The mystery of what happened to Mac's brother felt out of place and seemed a bit like a soap opera to me. It slowed the story's momentum down and left me feeling annoyed. Seeing so many other sexy football players though has me excited for more stories in this series and the continuing mix of action and romance.

My opinion:
After enjoying so much “ Down by Contact” i was impatient to find the Seattle Lumberjacks once more however instead of starting with the precedent books it was time for the newly release and I didn’t want to miss it. Jami Davenport is really an author you have to try if you love sport romance because so far I have liked (or more) all I’ve read from her.

This book doesn’t break that rule I really liked it but at the same time I found it harder to immerse myself in the story because the suspense part was more important than the sport one and I guess perhaps a little too unbelievable for me. However the author’s writing talent made it so that I still couldn’t close the book and i had to finish it the sooner the better.

I was delighted to get to see again Kelsie, Lavender and Rachel as well as their counterpart^^, They have become great at scheming lovers plans and it’s sure Mac and Bruiser needed their wisdom ( I want to see Tyler get married even if apart the ceremony and paper it’s all look like he is already)I enjoyed discovering more about Brett and I do hope he will find his soulmate too because he does deserve it, he is so loyal and forgiving. Now i must say i still hate Veronica and I don’t think that could change a day…. You will see what i mean after reading this 4th book….she is such a b**** I wanted to strangle her ( I’m sure she is even furious with Elliot).

The romance between Mac and Bruiser is cute and I do love the message between it that you need to see behind the appearances. People can be so different that what they want people to believe and if you stop just at the looks you are missing so much…. Bruiser did need a change in Mac appearance to give it a try and I guess that part bothered me just a little…he is saying he saw her and liked her before but he needed to see her as a woman to make his move…. Now that happen also in real life sometimes you need a change of place to open your eyes to what was right in front of you so i got over it pretty quickly. Both have guilt issues and difficulty to trust, they are stubborn and sadly not selfish enough sometimes making them pay a too heavy price for someone else decision or desire but together they do get stronger if they can accept it.

Nevertheless when you add the burden in Mac’s life to Bruiser’s past… it was a little too much for me. It’s not bad no but perhaps I would have enjoyed more if at least one of them at resolved his or her problem first because it does make a lot especially when Elliot come to add to the mix of their perturbed life already. I loved Elliot Character… so mature and at the same time so vulnerable..; it’s just that the 3 situations together were too much for my emotional state right now i guess.

The sport part is a little more behind the scene in this story, we know Bruiser plays ( and wins) that he has training session but the majority of the action take place far from the stadium. Perhaps i missed that but at the same time if you are not great fan of sport it makes it even easier to be drawn in the story.

All in one it’s a really good sport romance with a lot of suspense romance this time in the mix and one you should really give a try to.

And here I thought he’s just another pretty face in the magazine covers…

Never judge the book by its cover – because star running back Bruiser Mackay is more than just the face of the latest endorsements, or his team. Unknown to others, even to his close friends and family, he does this to fund his secret charity. More than just a hot commodity, this jock had a great, and compassionate heart and a load of emotional baggage. A tragedy took the life of his twin brother and for years, he blamed himself for it.

He thought she was pretty and hot just the way she were…

Friend to all, one of the boys MacKenzie Hernandez spent the last three years of her life chasing clues with her father with regards to the disappearance of her brother. She personal and professional life went on hold for some time for her to provide closure to her family. But this time, she’s going to grab every opportunity that comes into her – Lumberjacks management hands out scholarship that can help her life get back on track. She will have a chance to get the job that she wants and the financial security she longs for. With the help of unexpected new girlfriends, and Bruiser’s family – the team’s tomboy groundskeeper was transformed into a sexy bombshell that rendered Bruiser stunned. He already liked the old Mac – she was real to him, but he can’t deny that this new Mac attracts him as well.

I can’t fathom how can this two form a healthy relationship with all the emotional, and psychological baggage they carry from their past. It was great that they started out as friends, then they turned into lovers – had mind-blowing sex every time they got together, but when emotions were starting to get involve, both of them were scared. Bruiser can’t tell her about his past, and Mac can’t let go either. BUT ALL IT TOOK IS one scarred child to finally got them around – hopefully let go of their past and embrace the future.

The plot was great – I have some ideas about their past, but when it all came to light, some information still caught me by surprise. The characters are indeed strong enough to have survived everything that they have been through. Some of the twist and conflicts would had still surprised me, and I was wondering if they can solve it all - but hey, they did. Jami Davenport had closed all windows she opened.

Backfield in Motion is a one long rollercoaster ride about two amazing scarred individuals who were held back by the pains of their past, finally finding love, comfort and healing from each other. It may have took a long time, a whole lot of hurts, broken hearts and tears – but in the end, it was all worth it. See, love does the impossible things, it can heal wounds and even wipe scars.

Where to start. Let's just say when I began reading this book I worried that I would not like Bruce "Bruiser" Mackey who's stereotypical front is not usually my cup of tea, but within just a few pages I found I couldn't put this book down, which I have to say I was happily shocked by. This story grew on me fast.

I particularly loved it's female main character Mac, who being a tomboy myself, I identified with immediately and could totally relate with her struggles with always being the guys-guy. I adored her! Not to mention her struggle to people please but also have her eyes on a goal. I wanted to admire her tenacious attitude, but her interactions with her father had me frustrated, though it really wasn't her fault.

Back to the handsome running back Bruiser. I wanted to hate him, I did, but it became nearly impossible. I found myself willingly accepting his emotional wall, and felt myself stumbling right with Mac with how she too fell for him. His educated background, crazy and heartbreaking upbringing, and his love for kids, and donating to charities all wrapped up into a nice package. I loved his wry attitude too which had me aching to get the two main characters together stat! And I loved how their relationship evolved!

There were a bit of stumbles for me with this read, but it didn't have me wanting to put the book down, but it did have me grumbling to myself in annoyance. Both MC's have heavy histories which then weighed heavy on the read for me. I felt heart wrenchingly exhausted with Bruisers haunted past with his family, and Mac's constant search with her crazy father for her missing brother, who they assume was murdered. Phew. All in all I felt it wrapped up well enough in the end, though the solution to Mac's problem felt a bit rushed, but I didn't necessarily want to read more about that situation anyways. All I wanted was some more Bruiser and Mac ;)

I loved that Bruiser had to fight his feelings for Mac, and I adored their struggles, and most definitely their steamy scenes. This book did not lack in the romance department, and definitely had me quietly saying "awww" to myself when you bring the adorableness of young Elliot, who Bruiser takes under his wing.

Overall I really did love this book from start to finish. The ending had me grinning like a fool, which is always a great thing. This is the first book I have read in the "Seattle Lumberjacks Series" and I have every intention to start back with book #1! Even with their short appearances I know I'd like to know more about these football players. I give this book a solid 4 out 5 stars!

Bruiser Mackney has been said to just be a pretty face all his life. He lives the part he thinks he should. He poses for magazines, dates lots of woman and does what he pleases. He feels he has to to make up for his brother's death. He hides what he really is and his good deeds from others to fit the mold he is cast. MacKenzie is just like one of the guys to Bruiser and that is how he has always treated her. One day his thought wonder to a different area and after a makeover for her he is none to please to see she looks even sexier than before. Mac has always had a crush on Bruiser and thrilled when he starts to return her attention. She really has no life as she works all the time and really wants to go to school. That is impossible for her when she spends all her spare time with her dad hunting down clues to a brother that disappeared years ago. The two of them are great together they just can't see it for their past and they seem to get n their own way.

Mac is someone I really liked. She likes being one of the guys but she also at times wants to be seen as a woman. She is a hard worker and a really caring person. She gives up her free time so she can help her dad even when she wants a life of her own. You see her at her highest and lowest points in this book and you really see how special she is. Bruiser is the sexy guy all the woman want. He is afraid to let anyone close to him. He is also very caring and touched my heart in this book at how sweet he can be. You get to see all side to him and they all make you love him.

This book broke my heart in some ways. The characters have all had tragedy in their past and it makes you really feel for them. The author does a great job with them and you really feel their pain. Mac and Bruiser are great together and you know they would be perfect for each other if they would just really talk. I wish I could have shaken them both a few times. There is a few characters I hated in this book and I am sure when you read it you will as well. Beside Mac and Bruiser romance thing there is so much more that goes in this book to make it great. You have some mystery as Mac searches for her brother, heartache as it seems most of the characters have some form of it and Elliot. I love Elliot and wish I could take him home with me. If you are looking for a great book please try this one and fall in love with Elliot and the others with me.

4.5 Stars !!

Mackenzie Hernadez is a basic jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, always wearing her hair up in a simple ponytail. She is beautiful but simply does not care about those types of things, preferring instead to concentrate on the job she loves. She is the groundskeeper for the Seattle Lumberjacks, it is up to her to make sure the grass is perfect and the flowers beautiful.
Bruce "Bruiser" Mackey is the teams star running back. He is also a successful model and donates all of these earnings anonymously to a children's burn charity. This charity is dear to him because of the guilt he holds about his twin brother dying as a teenager.
The Lumberjacks are giving away the annual scholarship to a deserving employee and Mac is hoping that is will be going to her. In order to have a chance she needs to attend a black tie BBQ, to do this she will need both a makeover and a date. Bruiser agrees to take his "friend" to the BBQ and many of the wives get together for the makeover.
The only problem is, Mac has had a secret crush on Bruiser for years. However, Bruiser's friend Brett has a crush on Mac. This is getting complicated. To further throw a wrench into anything Mac has to spend all her spare time helping her dad search for her brother who disappeared three years ago. Dad is obsessed with finding out what happened to him.
What a transformation in Mac, she is hot, all the guys are noticing her, as well as the company bitch Veronica who unfortunately controls the scholarship. Sparks fly between Mac and Bruiser. Both of them are holding on to much emotional baggage. Is it possible for the simple girl to get the georgous play boy. Will he let go of his grief and allow himself the chance to love someone, does he even deserve to be happy?
The chemistry was hot, the sex scenes were perfect, with just enough kink in them. This story was an easy read. It also had a good deal of intrigue to keep things interesting and I felt it was a well rounded story. I loved that both of them had real issues that they were dealing with and it was interesting to see them try to determine that they each deserved to be happy. The story surrounding her brother's disappearance was definately heartbreaking and awesomely written. Excellent job.

4.4 Star Review - Backfield In Motion

I recommend this book.

I enjoyed this book by Jami. This book includes passion, laughs, heartache, and a missing person.

Bruce “Bruiser” Mackey is a pretty boy. He plays football and models. So everyone thinks he is all about making money. What people don’t know is all his modeling money goes to a secret charity.

MacKenzie “Mac” Hernandez is working for the lumberjacks. She is trying to get a scholarship to finish college and take over when her boss retires. She is told that she needs to go to the company BBQ and bring a date.

The other Lumberjacks decide she will get a makeover and Bruiser would take her to the BBQ. He tells her he will take her even though his best friend wants to date her (but he is out of town). He is amazed by the makeover but feels that she looked better before. They go to the BBQ together and end up almost kissing. After overhearing a conversion at the BBQ she leaves alone.

As time goes by they spend more and more time together. But she feels Bruiser is not really ready for a relationship as he still has not shared his past or any of his secrets. Things come up that break them up but they keep coming back together. But is it worth it to keep trying and not ending up together?

Bruiser has a horrible trauma in his past he does not share with anyone. Whenever anyone gets too close he pushes them away so they never find out his secrets. Will he ever share his past with Mac? Does he even feel that he needs to?

Will Mac get the scholarship she worked so hard for or will something prevent her from getting that? Will she spend the rest of her life on nights and weekends dropping everything to help her father search for her missing brother? Will Bruiser be able to deal with her cancelling plans to help her father look for her missing brother?

In the end will all the twists and turns in the relationship help make it stronger or break it apart?

This is the Fourth book in the Seattle Lumberjacks Series, I absolutely loved the first three and Jami Davenport does not disappoint in this one. This was such a sweet Story that completely tugged at your heartstrings. Backfield in Motion was not only hot and steamy but filled with Unsolved-Murder, death, suicide, burn victims and of course hot football players.

Mac's brother went missing three years before, Mac's Dad was relentless in finding out what happened. Letting it completely and totally dominate his life to a point he was oblivious to everyone and everything around him including his living children, unless it involved Will, his missing son. Mac was strong, a complete tomboy but also caring, compassionate, friendly and loving. She was a landscaper for the Seattle Lumberjacks whom had always been treated as one of the guys.

Mac had harbored a secret crush for Bruiser, a Seattle Lumberjacks star. When a scholarship came available through the team for her to go back to school, she found she had to wine and dine the team owners, whom could be ruthless and that involved formal benefits. Bruiser was considered a selfish, self-centered playboy. When Bruiser agreed to take Mac to the benefit, things changed. Mac had to learn and accept things aren't always as they seem and never to judge a book by it's color.

I absolutely love this series and can't wait for the next book in this series. I highly recommend this series. I was given an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review, All thoughts and opinions are my own. My review can be found at http://booksbooksmorebooks.blogspot.c...

OK....the one thing that stinks about really liking BACKFIELD IN MOTION, is that I now HAVE TO read the series from the beginning, which I know are going to be GREAT, but I have such a long TBR list, and I will have to put the Seattle Lumberjacks at the TOP! I am a Series Whore, and if I enjoy the Fourth Book, well, I just have to go back and start from the beginning, especially when the secondary characters are as much fun as Derek, Zach and Harris (Tyler).

On to BACKFIELD IN MOTION, what a great storyline and a Hero and Heroine who are so much more than what the "Outside" says they are. Mac and Bruce "Brusier" have much in common, and those things have them craving each other, but also keeping each other at a distance. I was cheering this couple from the first moment Mac walked into that photo shoot, and BOY did she get a look!!

Fabulous back story, sexual chemistry that jumped off the pages and emotions that were overlooked, but lingered between two people, which was so obvious to all of those surrounding the couple, but sometimes they were just too busy denying.

If you are in the mood for a Sexy, Fun and Emotional Sports Romance, check out New Release, BACKFIELD IN MOTION.

Seattle Lumberjack running back Bruce Mackey, aka Bruiser, is the face of the team. Not only is he a talented player but his pretty-boy looks get him endorsements left and right.

MacKenzie (Mac) Hernandez is the Lumberjacks greens keeper. The tomboy is considered one of the guys. She has had a secret crush on Bruiser for years.

Mac needs help getting the annual college scholarship awarded by Lumberjacks team. She needs to become more visible and get the attention of Veronica Simms, the team owner’s daughter. The only person Veronica seems to like is Bruce. His team mates talk Bruiser into accompanying Mac to the annual BBQ.

Bruiser and Mac might seem like a strange match, but in reality, they have a lot in common, including both being scarred with the deaths of their brothers.

Backfield in Motion is an endearing novel. Both characters suffer from a tragic past that leaves them not truly living in the future.

Jami Davenport wrote a wonderful story that I read in one sitting. This story has a little something for everyone: romance, sports, drama, mystery, and suspense.

Wow....This is my favorite thus far.

Bruiser is a man of many layers. To so many people he's just the pretty face, and nothing more. But as the story progresses you learn he is so much more than that. You also learns that he carries the guilt of something around that he thinks is he's fault. Once you pull the layers back you find the most delicious, sensitive, and the all around man.

Mac is a self proclaimed tomboy, but once the "She-Wolves" get a hold of her they bring her beauty more to the surface. She struggles to please everyone, but herself. She tries to please her father by trying to find her brother. Her life is in limbo until her father is satisfied. With Bruiser's help she learns that she has to put herself first.

The main characters have amazing sexual chemistry, but do they have more? They both can't see they love each other, and it takes a special little boy, Elliot, see that they really love each other.

You go through so much turbulence in this book its very hard to put it down. You have the suspense of a good mystery book, but enough romance to make it an amazing book!

Highly recommend this book to anyone!

He is sex on a stick and he knows it. Star running back and Lumberjack hottie Bruce "Bruiser" Mackey is the face of Lumberjack football, with his good looks and natural charisma he can have any woman he wants and he usually does. That is until it comes to his unnatural curiosity with groundskeeper for the Lumberjacks MacKenzie "Mac" Hernandez, the frumpy exterior hides a snappish tongue and quick wit that has no issue of putting Bruiser in his place. Bruiser can't deny that the he is confused by the attraction but it all makes sense when Bruiser offers to be her date at a team barbecue to help her further her career. A makeover is the least of Bruiser's worries as he begins to want to act on the feelings that Mac is stirring in him and Bruiser has his reputation to think of, he only dates stunners and Mac is a woman of humble beginnings and proud of it. Can Bruiser get over his own hangups to hang on to the one person who really sees him for who he really is?

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
I enjoy books with purpose and a little mystery and this one had both. Bruiser and Mac had pasts that held them back from having fulfilling lives, but their attraction to each other was front and center from the beginning. From Bruisers brothers tragedy to Macs life and disappearance of her brother, they both understood loss. How they dealt with that loss almost tore themselves apart, but their love and willingness to help one another made the story as great as it was.
Although their back stories were an important part of what was going on with the present, it was slightly drawn out. Don't get me wrong, it was a great book but sometimes their continuous break-ups were not needed.
I would definitely recommend this book. Can't wait to read the next one.

Backfield in Motion was a fun, sexy, hot read! On the outside, Bruiser & Mac seemed so different from each other, but, on the inside they were so much a like it was shocking. They had to go through a lot of ups & downs to actually find each other. But in the end the struggles were well worth it for their love.

I have only recently started reading sports themed books. I love my football & hockey so why not combine my love of reading with my love of sports too. This book is a perfect combination. A great love story with just enough background of sports to make me happy. Even if you aren't into sports this is still a wonderful romantic love story that should be read by all.

3.5 stars.

I really liked this book, but I wasn't a big fan of Mac's mystery concerning her missing brother. I felt that storyline was a little out of place, given the overall contemporary nature of the book. However, after reading the author's note at the end of the book, I do applaud the author for writing that storyline since she's always been a fan of crime mysteries and wanted to write that in one of her books. My main grievance about this book is that the ending felt too rushed. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I think that it's a good light read, especially if you need a break from the emotional, angst books.

I liked this one, but not as much as previous entries in this series. I liked Mac a lot, and felt sorry for her being pulled in so many different directions. I liked Bruiser too, although frankly I thought he was a jerkface for poaching on the girl his only BFF on the team was crushing on. I also felt the author bit off a little too much conflict in this story. Between Mac's baggage, Bruiser's baggage, and the kid tossed into the mix? It all gets resolved in a satisfactory manner, but it does make for a stuffed read.

This is a story of proves that you cannot judge a book by its cover. From the “Asshole” with a damaged heart of gold to the tomboy who is hot not only on the inside, but outside too. This book has you believing that everything is not always what you think they are at first glance. I give this book ❤❤❤❤❤!

One thing I love is that Bruiser helps with kids like his brother so they do not meet the same fate. I love Mac’s loyalty to her father and the love and support she gives him. I can’t say much else without summarizing the whole book and revealing too much.

Oh Bruce there's so much more to you than meets the eye! I loved him & Mac together. There were a few times I wished I could have thumped them both in the head & told them to quit being so dumb. It did however work out perfect in the end. This one had it all romance, suspense and a wonderful little man Elliot.

I love this series & I can't wait to see what's up next. I'm hoping to see a book about Brett soon.

What to say, what to say? It was a lovely lovely story but I wasn't as captivated by this book as I was by the previous one. I loved Bruiser and Mac together but they both had such heavy backstories, it felt kind of stifling. It was a bit too much tragedy and sorrow for me.
But still this series is a true hidden gem and I can't wait for Brett's book!

This was a solid 3.5 for me. I enjoyed the storyline but became a bit frustrated with the "secrets" that held them back. I didn't believe the secrets were that catastrophic to have each character so crippled about moving forward. But indefinitely liked the writing and the steamy bits were fantastic. Overall an enjoyable read.

Wow!! Loved this book and love the series. I have to say I have read all of this series and I think this is the best one Ms. Davenport has written. Not to say I didn't like the rest of them, I did. But her story for this one was better. Keep writing Ms. Davenport!!

Oooops. So this is book 4, not book 2? Oh well!

Enjoyed this far more than the first book in the series - more characterisation, and about the right amount of sexytimes for my taste. I'm a real sucker for the "good boy inside" trope, so Bruce was definitely a hero for me! :)

New author read, OMG this book is so good and hot and good ok you get the idea. I liked that the book even though it was set over months, while the couple sorted their shit out, was not dragged down but was short and snappy.

Captivating!

I must admit Jami Davenport kept me tied up turning pages with this one. Seems we get not only Bruiser and Mac's romance, but an unsolved mystery also. Everything comes together in the end though. Definitely keeps you engrossed.
