Stylish, successful, and king of the soundbite, Vincent Dupont is Formula 1’s team boss extraordinaire.
Kate Ellison, an avid Formula 1 fan, believes she has hit the career jackpot when she lands the job as Press Officer for top team Dupont Lamborghini F1. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to work with top international media, world-class racing drivers and most significantly, Vincent Dupont.
Thrown into a schedule of non-stop work and international five star travel, Kate’s brief, to uphold the flawless image of her notoriously media savvy boss, should be straightforward. But Vincent is becoming the focus of increasing media criticism due to poor on-track results and flagrant misuse of the team budget on developing his own brand. Kate finds herself navigating colossal egos, Machiavellian politics and an omnipresent well-informed media.
As the cracks widen in his once perfect image and the financial and performance woes increase, Vincent’s methods turn increasingly ruthless and Kate becomes an accomplice in his amoral game plan.
Kate is ambitious and wants to succeed in Formula 1 but her conscience is eating her alive. Vincent Dupont is the ultimate symbol of F1 success, so is his cold-blooded approach her only recourse?

I picked this up after its clever launch on April fools day, hoping it would prove to be interesting. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to know what it is. Is it a story of a career minded young woman who works for an unscrupulous boss and struggles to balance work and life? Or is it an F1 story?

If its aiming to be the former it could have been50 - 100 pages shorter without all of the excessive F1 specific detail. If, on the other hand it is aiming to be an F1 book, surely the author could have chosen a more interesting set of characters to focus on? This book picks one of the worst aspects of F1 and manages to focus 350 pages on it. The drivers and engineers are peripheral characters; the team principals are caricatures focused on petty personality tiffs, rather than the political machinations that actually go on in F1 as each team principal strives to achieve an advantage from the regulations.

I had hoped this would prove to be an interesting story set in the bizarrely interesting world of F1, it wasn't to be, give it a miss.

I'm usually very sceptical about formula 1 novels, because 9 times out of 10 they effectively turn out to be fanfics. But by the time I got to chapter 2, I realised this one was different. In the end, it's not really about formula 1. It's about the right and wrong, the morals and the ethical standards of business politics. Formula 1 just happens to be the chosen arena to be put those on display. I finished the book in less than 2,5 days. Once the main character has gotten into trouble, you just can't stop reading.

DNF. I wanted to like this book sosososo bad. I love formula one and I was so excited to read a book about the behind-the-scenes action of my favorite sport. Unfortunately, the plot was all over the place. The writing was dry and even confusing sometimes. Maybe, now that I'm waiting for the 2k16 season to start, I'll pick this back up.

It's "ok" if you're a Formula 1 fan, but the book is barely about the sport. Fast cars and race weekends serve only as a context for the main story, and even when characters are fun and situations are snappy enough to keep you awake, nothing major happens. Still nice to read.

A bit chick lit, slightly predictable in places but a good insight into F1 PR. Enrico Costa was my favourite character, providing a few "challenges" for PR girl Kate!
