Vampire Anna Strong never expected to find the witch Sophie Deveraux on her doorstep, asking for a favor. But Sophie needs help, even if it's from the vampire who killed her sister. Anna, driven both by guilt and obligation, agrees to help Sophie and her psychic alter-ego Jonathan. So begins an adventure that takes them to Leadville, Colorado. All too soon, Anna wonders whether Sophie is truly a victim of circumstance . . . or the author of a clever plot to rid herself of her unwanted psychic twin.

I have to say I disliked this narrator a lot for this specific story. She made Anna sound old and spiteful, not the Anna I remember from the series I loved.
Since I finished the series, I also found it hard to place where this happened in the series as Anna had her HEA and in this one, she has not.
This was okay for a free Romance Package/Audible Escape read. I wouldn’t have paid to listen using a credit.
The characters here have mostly been seen before and have continued to evolve as the series has moved from strength to strength. This is a novella that brings closure to a story from an earlier book and while it is not super thrilling or anything it is still entertaining.

I both listened and followed along with the book. The narrator, Dina Pearlman did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life.
Once again there is no reason why Anna needed to be apart of this novella. I greatly disliked evil Sophie, she was a lovely character originally and now she’s been warped into a crazy bitch. This book also occurs before Anna meets Steven, not after book 8.
Fun little interlude. Great character interactions. Interesting twists and surprises. The ritual details were a nice touch and the poor human's reactions were fun to read.
25 An interesting entry into an established series. I am not quite sure what all the background was but the story stood on its own 2 feet. I will be looking out for books in the main series.
So while at RT, Jeanne C. Stein mentioned to me when I was chatting with her at the E-book Expo that her novella, Cloud City was going to be available for FREE during the convention. So later that night I made sure to download this one. Can pass up free now can you?
It was a pretty good story too! Sophie Deveraux, Belinda Burke's sister, needs Anna's help. She still houses the vampire ghost Jonathan inside of her and he's decided that he wants to write a book about this life! I mean, who doesn't want to read a vampire book these days? Plus it's about a real vampire too! But things start to get a little dicey. Sophie isn't too sure of their editor who wants to publish the book.
Turns out the editor knows more about Jonathan that Sophie thought. Apparently, Jonathan turned his great grandmother into a vampire years ago, essentially ruining their family name and all that jazz. He wants revenge. Anna is there for backup and protection, but it turns out Sophie has other plans than just trying to help Jonathan with his book and keep his...or her head. Sophie is going to get Jonathan once and for all and get her life back.
Anna is sort of concerned because she thinks Sophie might be taking the same dark path that her sister, Belinda took awhile back. But Sophie is so determined to get rid of Jonathan, she wants to be in control of her life and not have to share it with him, no matter what benefits housing the spirit of a once vampire may have.
This was a nice quick read. Very enjoyable, but isn't one of those that really ties itself into the series. Like not reading this novella won't leave you confused in a book in the series. This was purely just a fun read!
There was an interesting turn of events towards the end, that I didn't really expect to happen. I guess I was thinking something more deadly and sinister. The ending was actually quite nice!
I read this after I had finished the series. I just wanted to catch up with everything I could find that related to the series. I found it to be entertaining, but a bit lacking in the usual smooth presentation to which I had become accustomed from the novels. It is an interesting story and the plot does fit with the expected behavior of Anna. The other characters are a bit choppily presented and Anna's witch friend seems to be a bit selfish. I won't summarize the plot other than to say it does stretch suspension of disbelief a bit more than I usual like. The part that I found just too cavalier was the rationalization of taking a man's life (they say he was going to die soon anyway because of a heart condition) in order to make the plot work. There is a happy ending of sorts. Overall, I would say that fans of the series, if they have not read this novella, can easily skip this one and not miss much.
In Cloud City, Sophie Deveraux, the witch who "houses" the spirit of vampire Jonathan, comes to Anna for help. Someone is trying to kill her and she believes Anna can help her. Seems Jonathan thought he could make some money off of his story what with vampire novels so popular these days. Turns out, the publisher who gets the book has more than a professional interest in the story.
This was a very short, mini-mystery/redemption story in Jeanne Stein's Anna Strong series. It furthers Anna's personal story in the slightest bit, but offered a nice snack while I wait for Blood Bond, which is due out in August. Plus it was free! Can't beat that!
This is is the last of the Anna Strong book- maybe Jeanne can just give us fans the occasional short story to keep up with Anna.
Witch Sophie Deveraux turns up at Anna's house asking for a favor. Sophie needs help, even if it's from Anna- who in a previous book killed Sophie's sister. Anna decides to help Sophie. It becomes clear a bit later that Sophie enlists Anna's help to rid her of her "alter" Jonathan, who is "inside Sophie because she used his blood to help her with a beauty regime.
I was sad when this series ended, so when I saw that the author had this short I was excited. I loved how Anna was stunned for much of the book, first by what friends wanted, then by what one of them was willing to sacrifice. I do think what happened in the book gave her some hope for her own life to find love.
I really liked this book, although I didn't realize it was #8.5 in a series. I plan to go back and start the series from the beginning to find out how the main character becomes a vampire and what happens to Sophia's sister and more of her back story.
eh. didn't feel like this added anything to the series. maybe closure for the Sophie/Jonathan thing but since I read the rest of the series without being concerned about them.....
