Hope is snatched from her home and transported to a primitive world of magic and capricious gods. The Dayamari people believe she’s a Seer and their only hope of salvation, but she’s blind--she can’t see anything at all, let alone the future. She must accept her destiny and learn to wield the awe-inspiring powers the gods have bestowed upon her. And if she’s to save those she loves from the horrifying evil that lurks in the darkness, failure is not an option.

Maree Anderson writes paranormal romance, fantasy, and young adult books. She lives in beautiful New Zealand, home of hobbits, elves, and kiwis—both the fruit and the two-legged flightless variety. Her first novel for young adults, the multi-award-winning Freaks of Greenfield High, was optioned for TV, and currently has over 2 million reads on Wattpad. Alas, Freaks didn’t make it to the small screen, but it sure was a fun ride while it lasted. Readers will be pleased to know she is definitely planning to write more books in her popular Crystal Warriors and Freaks series.

As I was reading this book, I kept notes. I thought they were pretty funny the way they were, they seem to convey my frustration at how mind-numbingly dumb this book was. Here they are:

Main character is a total Mary Sue. Everybody falls in love with her. Anybody who doesn't like her is mocked. What little personality she started off with is gone by the time she joins the village. She suddenly knows how to use her powers with no training or consequences. The gods instantly love her. She's incredibly powerful and learns things quicker than anyone. Totes has a tragic backstory, so does her beau. Who pretty much falls instantly in love with her despite there being no relationship development between the two of them.

Wooo power came from super advanced spore thing. Heals her infertility so babies. She knows everything. Fixes other peoples problems. Is the matchmaker, those peeps are gonna live happily ever after. Potential conflict between main character and another fuelled by jealousy, settled in a couple of pages. The other made out to be the bad guy with everybody ganging up on them. Big bad evil has taken over her baby's body. Very obviously alluded to. It happened. Was totally right.

I was originally going to give it 1 star but it made me laugh.

While rather short (210 pages), this story was well put together. I especially liked that the heroine was blind and all the story telling was written to exploit to it's fullest what it means to be blind (granted I'm not blind so I would not know how hard it is to live without sight). I admire the author for wrapping an epic fantasy in so little pages, make it and it's people believable.

There was a few missing words and grammar errors but very little and not very distracting at all. I got it when it was a freebie on Amazon but it's worth spending money on it if you are interested.

Good plot, but v juvenile writing. I wonder if it was supposed to be teen fiction. Will give the sequels a miss

This book had potential but there was zero world building and zero connection or conflict between the characters. I just couldn’t finish it sadly.

I rate this book 4.9/5. Here is my breakdown:

Characters:5/5. Maree has created and juggled a diverse cast of characters with skill and aplomb. The people in this book are relatable, understandable, and believable. She does a particularly good job at helping the audience understand the frustrations of being blind in the situations Hope finds herself in.

Story: 5/5. I settled comfortably into the tone of an epic fantasy, but Maree runs with her characters to make a story all her own. I felt almost no sense of the dreaded deus ex machina; the plot evolved naturally and organically. Well done!

Style: 5/5 - this is a hard category for me as I generally only notice writing style if it brings me out of the story; nevertheless, I was pleased by the descriptions and verisimilitude in this story. I particularly enjoyed the depictions of Hope's experiences as a blind woman; it was very well done.

Grammar/spelling 4.9/5. Overall fantastic, but I did note a few missing words (often linking verbs). Still better than many novels I have enjoyed.

Overall - thank you for a fantastic read. I loved walking with the Dayamari, with Hope and Blayne and Willem and Maya and the rest, and I look forward to rejoining them.

Thanks again!

Seer's Hope by Maree Anderson had me stuck somewhere between 3 and 4 stars.
While the plot were certainly intriguing, its execution was somewhat rocky. The majority of the story is told by Hope's POV. However, their are some moments where all of a sudden you read what other characters are thinking, like Blayne or Chryss. So you think that now it will be from, say Blayne's POV, but it only turns out to be a paragraph of his thoughts. This was a little confusing at times.
Overall, it was a good read.

I like the plot idea. The characters and the story were ok. It did, however, drag a bit. I just wanted to finish the book and move on. Overall, it was an ok book but I don't know if I will read the sequel.

A really great read, an exciting new approach to the fantasy genre. Can't wait to get the next one in the series.

Loved the story line! What a great concept. There were many grammatical errors that should have been caught in editing. I look forward to the next book though!

I liked the premise of this book, I liked the characters in this book. I also liked the plot and just about everything about it. The only problem is that sadly, I'm not old enough to read it.

This was a good book. Some parts of the story was very unclear, however the story-line was great. i love all the characters. I felt there were some essential parts of the story that were missing.
