Everything has fallen apart. With the Night Shift HQ destroyed and supernatural murders spreading across Chicago, the Night Shift team circles the wagons. Reeling from their losses, Fynn has to draw on every friend –supernatural and not-- he has left to track down the monster responsible, a chase that will take his team far from home and the comfort of the world he thought he knew.
With his partner Jack and their daughter, Fynn faces questions about his family, an old feud and the Night Shift’s origins will bring Fynn closer to the truth, but he’s not sure he going to make it out of this one. He’s not even sure he wants to.
Missouri writes urban fantasy/historical/and paranormal fiction with queer characters and strong personalities. They are a recent transplant to the PNW, finding the rain delightful and the mountain air particularly inspiring.
Missouri currently lives with their wife and several cats, while filling the house with antiques in hopes of acquiring a ghost.
I seriously hope there is more to this series, these books are crazy. I've seen a couple of comments that compared them to other popular paranormal series, I have to disagree. Other than the fact that these books are both of the paranormal genre the similarities are marginal at best and I think if you look for it you can find similarities between pretty well any books that you want too.
Missouri Dalton's Night Wars Series is a rather interesting and entertaining view of the paranormal genre that introduces us to so many different and interesting characters. I for one plan to happily jump onto the Night Wars fan train and enjoy the ride, hopefully Fynn, Jack, Michael, Simon, Ian and Howl will be there just to mention a few.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series but note that there are no more books about Jack and Fynn. I hope there may be more on the horizon as I want to know the outcome about Fynn's deal he made with the leprechaun. Hopefully we get glimpses of the family in the other stories. I see there are some MF stories in this series and I may be tempted to read them. This series definitely has to be read in order. 4.5 stars(5 for GR)
Took a while to get back to this series, RL can be a bitch... grrr
Fynn and Jack have a special place in my heart, along with the rest of the gang! I hope we get to see things progress in their life as the series moves on to other characters... Thomas was an intriguing addition to Flynn's never-ending list of life surprises... can't wait to see how they fix this one! *grin*
This book is part of a series and must be read in order. With the destruction of Chicago Night Shift HQ and mysterious murders leaving them reeling Night Shift circles its wagons. Fynn is the highest ranking Night Shift officer left standing and he has to take charge, contact allies and find the monster responsible and it takes him and Jack across the world back to where it all began for the original Night Shift team.
This story dives in right where The Night Shift ended, it starts with explosions, sacrifice, betrayal and death and Fynn has to pick up the mantle and discover who, how and why. Fynn and Jack have a lot on their plate reorganising Night Shift and calling in allies and family to help track down the culprit, they have little time for rest as they race across the country on the killers trail and then across the ocean to England and Ireland to a showdown that reveals the person pulling the strings.
Wow, this book certainly doesn’t pull its punches as secrets are revealed and the twisting tentacles of the past linger and try to control the present. Both Fynn and Jack are as they have always been, although Fynn is feeling the pressure and the alcohol is calling his name. The mystery of whom was stealing artefacts is revealed and the sinister connections that are revealed as they investigate is chilling, but finding out why they were all betrayed is gobsmacking. Many things are revealed in this story with connections to the previous books and many secrets come out, Jack and Fynn are a spectacular couple and their co-workers, friends and family pull together in this story and make it brilliant.
I have to recommend this to those who love paranormal, sinister undertones, a long reaching plot, some sweet loving and a great ending.
This is a very under-appreciated series, I think. Missouri has created a modern world full of all sorts of beasties and humans with psychic powers. Her originality comes in with the close family ties Fynn Adder stays connected to, past and present, and how each generation is effected by psychic powers and links to the fey world. He's a tough cop, recovering from alcohol addiction, trying to balance family time, time with his lover, Jack, and all the while trying to keep the city of Chicago safe from the supernatural baddies. Third in the Night Shift series, I highly recommend this and the other books, The Hanged Man's Ghost and The Night Shift to anyone looking for an entertaining read.
Note to author: Please, more Michael! I love Michael!!
I really liked this one. If felt more solid than the first 2, and I enjoyed the first 2. This would not be a good place to end the series. I NEED to know what happens in the future now. Ya knew the moment Fynn made that deal it was a big big mistake. You can understand why he thought it was a no brainer, but he should have realized the deal wouldn't have been offered if there wasn't some insider information, or knowledge of the future.
Ahhh, Fynn fell of the wagon again. This is good and bad. Hate to see him fall of the wagon, but I like that 3 books in he is still struggling with it. There are no quick fixes, and I'm glad it wasn't just swept under the rug.
I liked the series from the beginning, but it's growing on me more with each book.

Wow, wow, just wow. This was bang- bang whirlwind of action, twists and turns that I started to feel whiplash trying to keep things, people, past and present straight. It was good, but I would definitely recommend reading the previous books to understand what’s really going on, causes the past comes back to haunt. I hope there is more to the series, I’m really liking this world she’s built.
Erin go Bragh Nobody holds a grudge better than the Irish! I love this series and the exceptional characters Ms. Dalton has created. The very extended family caused a few rifts and extreme problems along with bringing out some surprises. I enjoyed the way the other offices joined in to help out.
I am not rating this book because I not only didn't care for the subject matter, I didn't finish it. After a couple of chapters I removed it from my kindle. I had not read the first two books of the series so I kept wondering if I was missing something. I am not fond of this genre but tried it based upon a recommendation of a friend. I see now we just have different tastes.
3.5 Stars. I really like Jack and Fynn and I have enjoyed this series. I'm sad to see there aren't any more books focused on these two but I look forward to reading books about other characters in this world. The characters were really put through a lot in this book with some surprising twists and turns.
