Clan and Conviction

Rate this book
The drug Delir is sweeping the Kalquorian Empire, leaving madness and death in its wake. Investigator Dramok Gelan has already lost his enforcer partner in a deadly shootout because of the case. With no clues or suspects, he despairs of putting an end to the epidemic. Then a familiar face enters the picture: new partner and former lover Nobek Wynhod.

Wynhod never forgot the Dramok he loved seven years ago, and his assignment as Gelan’s enforcer is no accident. However, Delir doesn’t kill just its users; those who get in the way of its contagion die too. With the addition of a savvy criminal psychologist and a lucky break, Gelan gets too close to the truth.

Imdiko Krijero is a brilliant psychologist with insight into the criminal mind. Gelan and Wynhod pierce the man’s awkward facade to discover their perfect third ... but Krijero’s broken heart from a past affair keeps them at arm’s length. Can the pair convince this reluctant partner to give love a second chance? And can they save Krijero when Delir’s evil mastermind discovers the psych knows his identity?

This book is the prequel to Clans of Kalquor 5: Alien Slave.

Contains elements of BDSM, including physical discipline, anal play/intercourse, bondage, Dom/sub play, forced seduction, multiple sexual partners and homoerotic situations (m/m/m).

Tracy St. John

Born in a small town on the coast of North Carolina to strict parents, Tracy St. John started out as a quiet, shy child. She was typical for her small town: studying hard for good grades, fishing with her dad on Saturdays and attending church on Sundays.

When adolescence kicked in, so did full-on rebellion. School, family and church fell by the wayside as Tracy partied too hard with the wrong people. Somehow surviving her wild-child phase, she pursued several careers before finally settling on video production and writing.

A string of failed relationships prompted her to give up on love…which of course meant fate immediately tossed Mr. Right her way. After only 4 months of dating, she eloped with the love of her life. They just celebrated 14 years of wedded bliss.

Prior to penning her first erotic novel ‘Alien Embrace’, Tracy wrote commercials, television and radio promos, and training films for various government entities.

Tracy St. John now lives in coastal Georgia with her husband and son. She still enjoys fishing, and you’ll often find her haunting train museums with her locomotive-loving son. Besides writing, she also works in video production both in front of and behind the camera. She’s usually cast as the gun-toting bad gal, getting handcuffed in the end. She has no complaints.

So, I know I liked the last one...but I almost want to go back and down-rate it some because of how much more I liked this one! It's been about 8 months since I read Book #1 and I distinctly remember the breed nomenclature being an annoyance, as well as the multiple designations making it hard to keep each character separate in the story. Well, yeah, that wasn't a problem in this one for some reason. Right from the beginning I could tell each of the MCs from the other, and their typical traits were easy to attribute to the right guy. (Although, I did sort of adore how one of them seemed like a cross between Nobek {protector} and Dramok {leader} and that the actual Nobek feared his lover being re-typed and his clan claim desolved because there can only be one of each "breed" in a clan.) (Also, I think I would love it if this "rule" were challenged more directly in a future installment.)

And while it was definitely scifi in nature, here the plot revolved around a mystery and read more like a procedural. Maybe that heavier dependence on solving crime was why it appealed to me more? I don't know for certain (especially since I adore scifi). I liked how it took a very long time to resolve all of the dangling threads - and that it gave the characters a TON of time to build a relationship. Even with that stupid-long gap between the two parts, I felt like it was necessary to allow a solid partnership to form, and to have the two more dominant lovers become a united force for attracting, seducing and caring for the more submissive but hesitant one.

Sure, it seemed a bit over-dramatic how Krijero responded to losing his first lover...but given the Imdikos ({caregiver} his "breed") are supposedly more sensitive (with Krijero purportedly feeling things even more deeply) - and given that the one who dumped him had been his closest friend for most of his life? Yeah, I guess I could see why he'd swear off trying to clan with another.

Sometimes the BDSM aspects were a bit overmuch, but I did enjoy most of the scenes. I'm a sucker for that "fighting for dominance" theme so I really liked it when Gelan and Wynhod would go at it to determine who would top. Very hot. Also, that spanking scene. *whew*

Again, I'm probably not going to read the associated novel that goes with this one, where the triad finally finds/gets their female mate (Matara). If I knew for certain that all of the action did not focus on her I'd be more likely to pick it up...because after reading about how much these guys loved each other, how hard they fought for each other - I just can't see letting that deeply intimate connection slip away 'cause there's vag involved.

Definitely gonna read more of the Clan Beginnings though!

This is a prequel story to "Alien Slave" (Clans of Kalquor #5) that can be read as a standalone. It is a sci-fi mmm erotica romance read with BDSM fantasy elements about how Gelan, Wynhod, & Krijero met and formed their clan prior to ever meeting Dani.

Dramok Gelan is assigned as the lead investigator to shut down the manufacture and distribution of delir, a highly addictive drug that turns its victims from mellow happy individuals into psychotic killers. All that is known is that whoever is behind the drug ring is so feared that those who know anything would rather die than say anything.

When Gelan's own partner is killed in the line of duty, Wynhod, his lover of 7 years ago, is brought in to replace him. Sparks fly and the two soon discover that their feelings for each other haven't changed. Whether the two have any sort of future depends on shutting down the drug ring before it becomes known the two want to clan.

Imdiko Krijero is the equivalent of a Kalquor geek working in the criminal psychology department assigned to the delir drug task force. Krijero has a theory on who might be the mastermind controlling the drug gangs but can't get anyone to take him seriously until the new lead investigator and his partner come on board. Whether it's because they believe his research or the two are looking for a playmate Krijero is surprised when they want to keep discussing the case with him on and off office hours. Once they've become bored with him they'll toss him aside as has happened in the past so the key is to keep their relationship professional. There can be no HEA future, especially when Nobek Wynhod has made it more than clear that he has no respect or tolerance for Krijero except as a sex partner.

The delir drug cartel is well managed and elusive. Anyone who knows anything usually ends up dead or is never heard from again. Gelan and Wynhod need to keep their head in the game and stop whoever is behind delir before the mastermind behind the drug operation decides that Gelan, Wynhod,or Krijero know too much and must be taken care of.

I have read each of this author's books in the Kalquorian sci fi series. To date I have felt that while she's found an unusual nitch, I can't say that she's ever been able to wow me. That ends with this book. IMHO the author has elevated her craft by writing a bestseller quality story that included mystery, suspense, sci fi action, sexual tension, five alarm erotic scenes, twists & turns, and tear at your heart string emotionalism that made this book the best of her work that I've ever read. Love love love this book would be an understatement.

This is a purely mmm erotica read without any female interaction distractions. The core of three men who clan together before they can further add a female (matera) has always been hinted at in in the "Clans Of Kalquor" series but never really explored. This is a warrior race so it's a natural assumption that they'd find intimacy and love with others of their kind as the female population has basically died off. The author's decision to finally feature that aspect has been a long time coming but so worth the wait. The man on man action was toe curling HAWT HAWT HAWT as Gelan, Wynhod, and Krijero loved as intense and rough as they fought as warriors. Throw in a little BDSM and D/s play and I'd call this a win/win. But. You have to realize that these are alien guys so don't expect the male anatomy to be the same as our Earth guys as you read this one.

As to the plot and story line. It didn't take me long in reading this book to predict who/what the climatic info might be. That usually bums me out as I love a challenge instead of the straightforward boy meets boy and they jump into bed together premise. OK. Things happened and unexpected events had me rethinking myself. I love when I get to do my Sherlock Holmes 'who done it' analysis to find out if I was right or not. I don't do spoilers but ..... damn!! that is all

For anyone who has read this series I strongly encourage you to grab this one realizing it's strictly mmm. For anyone who hasn't followed this series you can appreciate this one as a standalone. It features the clan who will later be featured in the mfmm #5 book "Alien Slave" which I really wish I had been able to do myself as I can now appreciate that one so much more. Won't stop me from now re-reading it which I plan to do but certain information found in this book did make more sense and gave a better perspective of things for that one. And I have to end by saying Wynhod has always been my favorite of this crew and I'm glad it didn't change after reading "Clan And Conviction"

Another wonderful story from Tracy. I just love reading the back-stories of the clans from her books that I've read so far. I'm so happy you are planning to keep them coming Tracy.

I only managed to make this one last 3 days. It was so hard not just binging and reading it all at one sitting but Tracy is giving us practice with her blog of 'Shalia's diary' where we only get tiny bits of the story twice a week. I keep telling myself it is good for me to learn patience. LOL

Intense

A very intense story. Poor Krijero, he had to go through so much physical and mental pain. But he was such a beautiful soul.

I loved this story of how they had to work to make a clan. "yes I cried a couple of times" After I read Clan and Conviction I went back and reread Alien Slave on how and when they met their Matra. I saw a lot of growth in the Clan from when they first met and became a Clan to when they met Dani and completed the Clan.

I've read this book 10 times. Over and over. The 2nd part dragged a bit - BUT I still read it three times. I adored the 1st part. They are so cute. Two sexy law enforcer Kalquorians who knew each other then come back together? Then throw in the concern that the Dramok isn't a Dramok but a Nobek? I always wondered about that. They have no trouble being lovers - and some of the Dramoks are very good Dramoks!

This is my favorite book out of all the kalquor books. The relationship between dramok and nobek is fantastic and the imdiko chase was great. Hell even the bad things that happened gave the story such a twist. I really didn't want it to end.

This was another good read in the Kalquor clan stories. This one in particular had a lot of thought go into the making and telling of this story. She tells a story that involves the inside workings of their enforcement community and criminal organizations with conspiracy and betrayal weaved into the plot. That was what stood out to me - all the thought put into this. And, who could not fall in love with Krijero? That was a wonderful character Tracy created that glued the whole thing together. Well done.

4.5/5; 5 stars ; A

If I compare this book to the first two that I read in the Clans of Kalquor series I can only say its orders of magnitude better in plot and characterization. I really enjoyed this science fiction story, although this one doesn't really have a big sci-fi component. Its basically a police mystery with an erotic m/m/m love story woven in. I skimmed a lot of pages of sex because it was more than I wanted to read but that doesn't change the fact that the characters were interesting and likeable and I wanted to read their story. The time frame of the love story was on the order of a decade which makes a lot more sense than days or weeks. One aspect of this story that made it special was that the Imdiko in the group was portrayed as emotionally damaged and also a bit physically handicapped (with a balance disorder that made him clumsy). In all the other Kalquor books I've read the members of the clan are always portrayed as practically perfect. This was a nice bit of variety.

Definitely give this series a try. This book is the prequel to Alien Slave, book 5 in the Clans of Kalquor series. The Gelan Clan from this book will be featured in Alien Slave. Should be good.

I'm not sure why it took me so long to get around to reading "Clan and Conviction," one of the early books in St. John's "Clans of Kalquor" series.

Galen and Wynod are reunited after a long separation when Wynod is partnered with Galen during a police investigation of a drug distribution organization. Their attraction to each other is as blazingly hot has ever. But they're looking for their third, and believe that Imdiko Krijero, who they've worked with during the investigation, would make an ideal Clan mate. Except Krijero doesn't agree. Galen and Wynod are determined to win him over...even if it takes handcuffs, ropes, and floggers!

Krijero is just such a sweetie....it's easy to fall in love with him!

There's plenty of mystery, suspense, and action while these three try to take down the drug maker who's been spreading addiction and madness.

My only quibble is that the book spans nearly a decade. I'm not quite sure why St. John chose to write it that way...I'm not sure what those really long lapses contributed to the story.

Like the first one I enjoyed this book a great deal. It had some really hot BDSM scenes but there was also some time spent with the characters outside of the bedroom. I liked Wynhod and Galen as a couple and I loved watching them try to woo the very reluctant Krijero. I also liked the dynamic between the three of them as the story progressed. The interweaving drug plot had a good balance of being interesting but didn't overshadow the romance portion of the book.

The 5 stars I gave was for Krijero whom I really adored. He is like the super nerd student in his class who really does not understand how special he is.

The two neardenthals were fine as well. A bit too scary for me :-)

I laughed a lot when I was reading how many years where passing every time these three where meeting until they became clan. Well they were ment to be together, but it was still funny how long it took them.

Oh and the story with the drugs was good.

Loved this clan beginnings book. The guys are tough, hard-nosed cops...or enforcers as Tracy calls them. They find their perfect partner in Krijero who is a criminal psychologist. After working on several important cases together they convince him to let them court him. Hated that he got hurt but it really gave depth and dimension to the characters and tested their dedication to one another.

I love this series!!! I loved how Gelan and Wynhod worked out their past and showed each other that they really loved each other and became a clan. Then the slow seduction of Krijero. Oh the beginning of the story that devistated Krijero broke my heart. That was just horrible. The plot with the drugs was real good as well. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

How I adore this book and the three men within it. I've re-read it serveral times. The background story is interesting and full of action, and yet the love story is firmly front and center stage. The emotional escalation of their relationship is beautifully crafted. Unforgettable characters whom I will love forever.

This story was not as interesting as the previous one. I was really bored with the whole drug king theme. Maybe because it's too much like life and wasn't fantasy enough for me.
