My favourite series of all time. Weird and wonderful, epic and tragic, gut wrenching and euphoric, all brought to you by the most profound love story I’ve ever experienced. The main character Xie Lian will forever be my comfort character. My boy deserves the world.

Never once did this 8 part colossal series leave me feeling bored. I cried I laughed, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry… if viva la vida was a story, it would be this one because it just makes you feel so whole inside.

The character development of not only the main characters but the side characters as well makes you care about them so deeply it’s scary.

I’m just going to say MXTX is a downright genius. The stories she weaves within her mind with antagonists as morally grey and complicated as these, everyone who has done wrong in their lives but that only makes them more human. Each character is so complex.

I could write essays about this series I swear.

Tian Guan Ci Fu manages to be at the same time one of the sweetest love stories, horrifyingly tragic at times, and the funniest book ever written. The whole character cast is delightful. It's a very long read but the writing style really keeps it fresh, there's very few places where I ever felt like I was getting bored. Hua Cheng has the best aesthetics a fictional character has ever had, for many reasons but especially because he made being gay his entire personality to a degree we can all only aspire to do

Мені було складно читати перші 3 тома. Дратували моменти, коли говорять про героя так, ніби ми про нього все знаємо, але його історія буде через декілька глав або у наступному томі.
Зараз під час перекладу я перечитую і маю зовсім інші емоції, бо вже все знаю.
Складність ще полягає у тому, що багато імен (як завжди у новелах). Я і зараз всіх не пам'ятаю.
2 том. Кажуть, що то скло, але єдиний раз, коли я пустила сльозу, був момент з сімє'ю біля ворі. Пам'ятаю, як буркотіла під час 5 тому: чого я тоді ревіла, коли тут насправді... [спойлер: розмова з Білим Безликим].
3 том. Застрягла на довгий проміжок часу, але були милі епізоди.
Покорив моє серце 4 том. Це було шикарно! Він найбільше сподобався. Немає оцих пригод, відволікаючих факторів, не домовленостей. Конкретно про одного Сє Ляня. Його шлях, дії, вибір, метаморфозу. Я тільки не розумію його вибір в кінці. Царство небожителів прогнило. Краще те ж царство демонів/примар. Вони принаймні чесні. Тепер розумію, чому Хва Чен так до всіх відноситься. Замість допомоги небожителі тільки дивляться "виставу". Пихаті павичи.

Я прочитала приблизно 600+ сторінок за ті два дня без світла та інтернету.
Не віриться, що я дочитала. Нарешті. Можливо, через те, що я знала багато спойлерів (або через багато елементів детективу з відповідями у іншому томі), то історія не настільки запала у душу, але мені дуже сподобалася ніжність, повага, віра у стосунках Хва Чена та Сє Ляня. Ніби подоржник на рану після Ерхи 😂👌
Я б почитала більше пригод Хваляней, але без того, як їх переривають. Оці жарти, доторки, невдача Сє Ляня (у хороших випадках) та просто цікаві розмови - 💕
Сабля Е Мін - бідне дитя. Добре, що Сє Лянь поряд.
Шкода, що не розвили лінію Чорновода та Небожителя(

I absolutly love this book and I would like to give it 5 stars, but sadly I have to deduct a point because of the recent publishing from seven seas. I read this book as the online fan translation years ago and its great. The translation from seaven seas is good but the way it was split up was done horribly. It felt a lot like they tried to push out more Volumes just to make more money. It is possible to make less Volumes without making each Volume too big.
Even if they wanted to make more than 4 Volumes (like in the chinese Version) because english just has more characters, they could have split it up in a way that makes it feel less annoying. (Double the amout of Vol. is crazy)!

My favorite arc is Black Water, the characters and story are so interesting. In general I really enjoy that most characters have a really well written story.

In general I say if you enjoy queer books, are a hopeless romantic and still want intricate conflicts you have to read it!

Ho empatizzato fin da subito con il protagonista, Xie Lian, un vecchio boomer - rispetto ai suoi colleghi celesti più giovani e rimasti al passo coi tempi 🤣- portatore di sventure, all'apparenza con la testa un po' fra le nuvole, per cui non può che ispirare tenerezza, ma fin dalla sua prima missione si intuisce che in realtà XL è molto altro, e che questo suo modo di essere è frutto di secoli di esperienze di tutti i tipi che lo hanno messo alla prova infinite volte.
TGCF è un'opera che mostra quanto anche un solo gesto di bontà possa essere di grande aiuto a una persona nel momento più buio della sua vita e senza più fiducia nel genere umano e come, per contro, un atto egoista possa rovinare per sempre la vita di altre persone; è un'opera che parla di devozione e che descrive la nascita di un amore nel modo più naturale possibile; che si interroga su cosa renda una persona degna di diventare una "divinità", davvero tutte le "divinità" sono buone e giuste, e tutti i "fantasmi" crudeli e spregevoli?

It is impossible for me to put into words how much TGCF means to me.

These books literally changed my way of seeing the world, I just can't believe how someone could've written such a precious character as Xie Lian. His devotion to his idea of saving the world and doing the good in the darkest places reminded me the importance of kindness in a world like ours.

I have always said that my favorite thing in this world is the human capacity to love. And Mo Xiang described my exact definition of love in the last volume, when while dying, Hua Cheng could only talk about how it didn't matter what Xie Lian did, he would still follow him because he understood his everything. The dark and the good things. I just think that is the perfect image of love.

These are my books. I love them so much. No paths are bound!

I do not have words that could come close to describing how much i adore this series, i could not put it down and finished it faster than anything else i have ever read. The characters backstories are gut wrenching and complex, yet do not overly define them in a way that’s unrealistic. This story made me cry, laugh and also feel so complete in a way nothing else ever has. The underlying message that kindness can and will make a change is beautiful, although sometimes small, it paves the way for a colourful and bright future. Hua Cheng’s devotion and yearning is to die for (literally) and the dynamics between all the characters but especially with Xie Lian did not fail to equally bring me joy and pain. I would pay millions to be able to erase my memory and reread this and i am absolutely distraught that it’s over.

Nos introducimos en una historia atiborrada de historias tristes y muchk dolor. Nuestro protagonista Xie Lian ha sufrido mucho en.su vida, y lo que lo hace tan unico y especial es que a pesar de su dolor, nos enseña a ser fuertes. Hua Cheng es el personaje con exelencia mas leal, he quedado fascinada con el y su pasado, os lo prometo, nunca antes sentí este amor por un personaje literario!!

I listened to an audio reading of the unofficial translation. The audio ended at "taking the helm." So technically, I got through 1-6, not 1-8. However, it was too confusing to try to figure out which audio chapter aligned with which book, so I chose to mark it read through here lol and now I'm going to read 7 and 8 lol which I bought the official translation of each of those. I'm absolutely loving this series. It's interesting, sometimes intense, sometimes sweet, etc. Even the extensive back stories are interesting to me! I'm kind of obsessed!

This book devoured me from the inside and it has been so long since i obsessed over a book this much it even made me revisit ao3 after years of being inactive. Honestly tho, this book made me laugh, cry, clutch my head in dispair, made me yeet the book across the wall(alas, I read it in my phone), giggle and kick my feel in the absolutely best way possible. I absolutely recommend it.
