Home Sweet Home

Rate this book
Book five in the Home Series.

Home is sweetest when it’s the one person you can’t live without.

Yancey MacCafferty and Juan Romanos fell in love when they were in their teens, but their families convinced them both to follow their dreams and explore the world before committing to each other.

Their dreams take them in different directions. Yancey heads off to veterinarian school while Juan goes East to ride show horses. They stay in touch, and see each other as often as they can, but slowly they begin to drift apart.

Until Yancey graduates from college and decides it’s time to claim Juan as his. He gets a job working at a clinic near where Juan trains and rides. They spend as much time together as their work allows, finding out that while they may still love each other, meshing their lives together will take a lot more work.

This book was fucking perfect. Perfect I tell you!

Yancey and Juan have been secondary characters in this series for so long. I fell in love with them during Brody and Tony's story. This book we got to concentrate on this couple and I loved that. They were sweet together and I knew that from book 2. I was anxious, nervous and excited when I saw they were the couple in the fifth book.

I loved how Juan and Yancey were together. They have grown a lot and matured. Yancey did a lot for Juan in their relationship and some of the book I really felt that there was a scene I worried about them possibly breaking up, it didn't happen and I was really happy. I would say they are my second favourite couple of the series.

Spoilers.

One of the things about this series is you can expect an MC to get injured. I actually didn't mind that and it worked well to get our ending. For those who were dying for these two to get their HEA. I have good news.

Major spoilers!

I would strongly recommend reading the whole series. You will get introduced to the characters and it would be easier to follow things that happened in the book. Not that you couldn't, but it would save a lot of time.

Highly recommend this book!

The couple that readers of this series have been waiting to read. As such, this is not a book you can read independently. This book is like 'fruit' of what the previous books have planted. After all, we knew about the main MCs since they were still teens.

The story is very simple. Yancey decided to buy a vet practice in Virginia, close to where Juan lived. Most events are about their routines (Juan trained, Yancey practiced as a vet). That's it.

I really enjoyed reading it because Yancey and Juan are just nice 'ordinary' guys, who love each other and live 'ordinary' lives, even with Yancey's background and Juan's experience with his family...

Reading this book feels like having a reunion with old friends. Or reading a long epilogue. Or, someone from older generation seeing their kids become grown-up men. We get to read about all couples from previous books. The strength (or, to some, the weakness) is the low-level angst throughout the book. Some readers will be happy with it, others (especially those who look for catharsis) will be disappointed. There is a plot, but it's not really the focus.

I think the author chose the right route. While each has troublesome youth, Yancey and Juan have known and loved each other for so long that most problems perhaps have been dealt prior to this book. In a sense, both have paid their 'dues' on suffering, and now, together with family members who love them unconditionally, it's time to reap what all of them sow (not just Yancey and Juan).

There are a lot of telling, especially at the later parts, since this book covers 17 years of their lives (the main events are 13 yrs since they first met in the night club, plus the 4 years at the time of epilogue).

Still, a very nice reading. But, again, you definitely need to read the previous books in order to enjoy this one.

3.5 rounded up just because.

It's always great to catch up with the guys...all of them. Still one of my favorite series. With that said:

This was definitely the least angsty, and was definitely the sweetest...unfortunately, that is not my favorite style so this ended up being my least favotite of the series. It tended to be a bit wordy and descriptive, but really wasn't going anywhere. I will however read the next one, if there are more...cause one bad apple does not ruin the bunch for me.

Highly recommend the series...this one was just okay.

It was nice to see Yancey and Juan get their own story, albeit with lots of inclusion of the other couples we have grown to know throughout the series.

This story starts with a reminder of how Yancey and Juan first met as teens. The eighteen year old Yancey, who had been living on the streets, is older and wiser than Juan, who at sixteen faces some potential trouble at a club. Yancey 'rescues' him and something clicks that night for both of them.

They started their relationship slowly with their family - Yancey's brother and Juan's uncle - encouraging them to see a bit of the world and develop as their own men before committing themselves to one another. They want to make sure the boys are not in a position to resent each other for what they may have missed out on. They act on that advise and Yancey goes to college to learn to be a vet and Juan becomes a professional jumper. These different educations and careers keep them apart but they still love each other dearly and remain faithful to each other.

The focus of the story is Yancey finally being in a position to buy a vet practice near the stables where Juan rides and for them to be together. "He wanted to be close to the man he loved so they could get reacquainted. He needed to learn who this new Juan was, and see if their love would be strong enough to survive the changes in both of them."

I found the blurb slightly misleading. The blurb states "He gets a job working at a clinic near where Juan trains and rides. They spend as much time together as their work allows, finding out that while they may still love each other, meshing their lives together will take a lot more work." I actually found their lives meshed easily and there weren't any issues. These guys were made for each other and deeply in love.

This doesn't mean life is perfect but they are very happy together. "...I thought that when you love someone you're supposed to see them as the best thing since sliced bread."
Snorting, Yancey rolled his eyes. "Honey, sliced bread isn't that great, and while I love you, I do see your faults. That's what love really is. Seeing all your lover's faults, and loving them in spite of their crazy."

The plot sees a tragedy which provides opportunity for all the characters to come together as they offer help, love and support. The family theme, which has appeared throughout the series, continues to be strong "You are all my family, not all of you by blood. Actually, we are the best kind of family, the kind that has decided to love each other because we want to instead of having to. We accept everyone for who they are on the inside, and not who or how they look on the outside."

My only concern with this story was the timeline and how long it took Yancey and Juan to be together. Thirteen years had passed since the boys had met as teens. Surely this was well past how long it would have taken Yancey to become qualified as a vet and be in a position to settle into a practice? Dare I say I also thought it a bit prudish that Yancey was concerned about sharing a bed with Juan. They are grown men yet "The last time they'd been together, Yancey had slept in a different guest room, not wanting to get Tony or Brody upset about them sharing a bed. Juan had thought it had been a stupid idea, since he knew that Tony suspected they'd already slept together." Well Juan was right!

Overall, this a sweet story and it is nice to see Yancey and Juan get their happy ending!

Kinda nice to see Yancey and Juan finally get their story, but can't help but feel that this might have been better as a short story since there isn't a lot going on here. Even the bad thing that happens doesn't have much impact on the story or the emotional tone. I just kinda wish that their had been something more here. It is a very sweet story, though. Good if you are in the mood for a more fluffy-read.

Well this one is one for the sweet tooth. This whole series has been light on the angst, heavy on the sugar and this is in that way the perfect conclusion for these two. We've known of Juan and Yancey forever and knew they were destined to be together. Ms. Chase gives us the perfect sweet cherry on top with this book.

Yancey has decided it's time. He's finished with vet school and his home is where ever Juan is. With his Grand Prix eventing keeping Juan tied to his barn on the east coast Yancey knows he'll have to move. He buys out the vet in town and decides to surprise Juan with is move. Juan is absolutely ecstatic to have Yancey there and to finally be able to be together after all these years. They settle into their lives with a minimal of fuss. Together they can get through anything life throws at them, .

Altogether I felt like I got what I wanted for these two, even if the book was very light, even with the expected accident. I got to touch base with all the other characters I loved and see everyone's still in their happily ever after. At this point the only person left hanging is Edward and I don't know if Ms. Chase intends to give him his happily ever after or not, but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to reading it. :)

Awww cowboys, they do make me smile and I love Ms Chase's cowboys. They were just what the doctor ordered. A nice follow up story on Yancey and Juan to complete their relationship. Not the most complex of plots but for me right now it was good. I really was looking to read something light and enjoyable with a HEA or at worst a HFN. I was left smiling and maybe fanning myself a little the steamy moments were nice.

More plot than some of Ms. Chase's books. I noticed in the books published and republished by Pride Publishing, a division of Totally Entwined, that these books set in the American West had acquired British English spellings for certain words -- tyre, aeroplane, and so on. It was a little jarring.

Yet again a character gets stepped on by an animal they're riding. The person and their partner and friends interact in different ways than other injured characters have in previous books.

I knew going into this book it would be bittersweet. I have been reading this series for three months now and its sad for it to be at an end. The men in this series was hard to say goodbye to. It seems more than three months that I started them.

This book featured Juan and Yancey who we met in book two. Juan and Yancey have become men now following their dreams. Tony and Brody wanted their nephew and younger brother to go out and find their own thing in life before committing to each other. They didn't want their to be resentment.

However, Yancey and Juan already knew where they belonged. Their home was with each other no matter which stat they should be in. Juan is into show jumping like Les used to do in Virginia. Yancey has become a vet and has moved to Virginia taking over a practice to be with Juan.

The two fell in love years ago, but Juan didn't realize what Yancey had done for him until its pointed out. The night at the club they met at, Yancey saved him from a guy. It showed even then what he'd do for Juan.

Juan and Yancey are starting their lives together again after being without each other off and on for years. They'd see each other may week here or month there but that was about it. Juan always knew Yancey would come for him to claim him.

I was not expecting the accident that happened. It took me by surprise even though I had been waiting for something to happen, just not that. I knew that Yancey would never leave the man he loved. He would take care of him just like when they first met.

I loved the ending so much and enjoyed the beginning of the book. I liked how it took us back to when they met for the first time. The way things ended wrapped the book and this series up wonderfully. I just wish there were more books and stories with these men in them. I don't want to say goodbye. I will read it again down the road. Thanks to T.A. Chase for writing about these men and their lives. It shows that love comes from everywhere no matter who you are.

Somehow, this one did nothing for me, I could not connect.

This is book five of the Home Series.
Home is sweetest when it’s the one person you can’t live without.

In Home Sweet Home by T.A. Chase, Yancey MacCafferty and Juan Romanos fell in love when they were in their teens, but their families convinced them both to follow their dreams and explore the world before committing to each other.

Their dreams take them in different directions. Yancey heads off to veterinarian school while Juan goes East to ride show horses. They stay in touch, and see each other as often as they can, but slowly they begin to drift apart.

They spend as much time together as their work allows, finding out that while they may still love each other, meshing their lives together will take a lot more work.

What went wrong for me...

Of course, it was nice reading what finally happened to Yancy and Juan. It was nice reading about what happened to the rest of the guys. It was even nice reading about Edward and I honestly was leaning more towards what was happening with this guy.

So what happened with Home Sweet Home?

I have no idea.

I just could not connect. For lack of a better word, there was no "oomph" and even the HEA did not leave me smiling.

Don't get me wrong. It is a nice story. It has all the right things in it. But there was just no "oomph."

This has been a really enjoyable series for me – part of it having to do with the continued connection of the characters throughout each subsequent book. This is the story of Yancey and Juan. The two boys were introduced in an earlier book, but I feel as though I somehow missed out on that whole electric “get to know you” phase since this story just gives a quick summary of that period of time. Given the fact that there was already an established relationship as well as the nature of Juan’s job, it was fairly easy to predict where some angst was going to enter the picture. And just like at the beginning, there was a pretty good time jump at the end of the book as well. I’d have loved more detail and to be more involved in both areas. But, that being said, I did very much enjoy this story!

This was the last book available in this addictive series and what a wonderful read it was! I certainly got over emotional at the ending!

This is a very to read series. The story continues in each book and it is very easy to love the characters!

I will most certainly be reading more from this author and am keeping everything crossed that there will be another book in this series!
Highly recommended !

This is the fifth book of the series. This is a great story .. This one is about Yancey and Juan . They fell in love since they were teenagers ...What kept them together along the way was the time they were apart. Sounds like a contradiction but they matured and it made it much better. Love never left them.

Sweet romance, but there is really no difficulty. There is some tragedy but seems easily overcome. If you've been waiting for Yancey and Juan's relationship you'll either love the strength these two have and be entranced by their steadfastness, or you'll be bored with the lack of conflict.

FINALLY Yancey and Juan get to be together all the time. They were such a sweet young couple who fell in love and survived a long distance relationship for so many years. I'm glad they got their happy ending and Christmas was great!

I've been generous and given this a 5* rating, really it's a 4.5.

It's lovely to finally get to Yancey and Juan's story, and the epilogue 4 years later Rounds the series up beautifully. I do wonder if there is going to be another one with Edward finding his happy ever after?

I can't believe I am saying this, but this is my least favorite story in the series. The vibrant connection between Yancey and Juan was gone. The storyline lacked romantic tension. Love the series, but this particular book did not work for me at all.

What a perfect way to end this series. They were meant to be and you could feel it from the first book. This series definitely bought the warm and fuzzies but the author also knows how to write a very hot sex scene. I recommend them all to you, it was a wonderful journey.

Enjoyable, but a little slow. Not a lot to truly draw the reader into the story. This is the first of this series that I've read, so perhaps I would have gotten more out of their story if I'd read the others first.
