One man obsessed with power.
One woman prepared to sacrifice everything to stop him.
One war that changed the world.

“Eric Dane has segregated the wealth and resources that remain, giving a select few the highest chance of survival and leaving the rest to starve!”
World War 3 lasted twelve days and almost eradicated the human species. Growing up in post nuclear America, Rebecca Davis remained blissfully ignorant of the despotic leadership that had seized what was previously the most powerful nation in the world. When the truth is revealed and Rebecca discovers that everything she has been taught is a lie, she is determined to fight for the life that she has not been allowed to live.

In order to do this, Rebecca has to cross the boundary fences and venture out of the safety of the New United States, into the barren wastelands. It is there that she finds allies she never dreamed existed.

In Rebecca, the Resistance has finally found the ultimate weapon.

“You were given this life Rebecca, because you alone are strong enough to live it.”

An action-packed, adrenalin inducing thrill ride that will have you riveted until long after you have turned the last page.

Uninteresting

I honestly don’t know what I just read. Part dystopian and part suspense, but entirely too unbelievable and, It breaks my heart to rate as is because Melissa Delport (aka Lissa Del) is one of my favourite authors. Weirdly, it had similarities with Angelfall by Susan Ee. Anyway, If I could identify one major element that soured this story, I’d say having Rebecca- the main female character- as the first person narrator was a mistake as a 3rd person omniscient would have been more appropriate.

On the plus side, this is very well written with minimal errors.

Looking for that special read that will weave its way through your mind with its intensity, its well-developed characters and the fresh, creative strength of its author? Like the conflict of a post-apocalyptic, dystopian world where the lines are blurred between the truly good and the truly evil, where deceit and intrigue, love and hate fuel the flames of the plot? The Legacy by Melissa Delport is going to rock your world as you are drawn into this tale, lock, stock and barrel.

World War III has decimated the United States and the world. Governments are overrun, the people of the U.S. need a leader and grasp at the first one with the charismatic strength to rally their hopes and hearts. Eric Dane has ambition, and the power to take control, leaving the country in the stranglehold of a brutal dictatorship that is choking the life out of its citizens. From this evil rises a secret resistance that is gaining momentum and has infiltrated the heart of the beast.d becomes the most powerful weapon the resistance has.

One beautiful and intelligent woman who has lost so much has learned the art of deceit as she steals Eric’s heart and becomes the most dangerous and powerful weapon the resistance has. Outwardly, Rebecca Dane is the loving and devoted wife, standing strong by her husband’s side. In truth, she is an operative for the resistance. She also sees a side of Eric the world never sees as she shares his life and his bed. Will she be strong enough to stop the next step in Eric’s plan to control society? Will she be exposed? Can the resistance save her and the country before it’s too late and more people are crushed?

Melissa Delport is a fresh, unique and strong voice in the Dystopian/Post-Apocalyptic genre. She writes with great detail in her development of her tale, her characters and NOTHING is overlooked or short-changed while she races us along in her fast-paced world. This author is a must read talent!

A dystopian novel set after World War III where the world is looking for a leader. Step up Eric Dane who everyone looked up to and believed, however is his truth really the truth as he wants the population to believe. The resistance would disagree and at its heart Eric's wife Rebecca who leads the struggle to free the people from his rule.

With a great cast of characters who come together to fight for the cause and some surprising twists, this book leads you on a great adventure and keeps you listening to the end. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story progresses in book two.

I really enjoyed this audio book. It was an interesting take on life in the future after world war three destroys the planet and how one woman risks her life to try and save the world. It’s a great start to a new series of stories.

What amazing story telling and world building. I finished it and immediately started book two.
The characters are likable and the future built here seems plausible and believable.... and also scary.
Narration was excellent as well.
I will look for more by this author and narrator.

I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.

This has been an unexpected surprise. I'm not sure why I was expecting less, but I'm glad I have been pleasantly surprised. I guess the concept of people with extraordinary abilities seems played, but this book is done in a way none of the others have been.

Enjoyed the story and how it flows page by page. As soon as the first one was done I immediately picked up the second in the instalment. Great read. Great characters and one hell of a kick-ass protagonist. Loved how Rebecca was developed. Can't wait to read more.

I didn’t know what to expect when I started this story, what I found between the pages was a very high tech story that held my interest from start to finish. I honestly didn’t want the it to end. The author lays out a plot that is intents, exciting and thrilling that makes you blood pump as you are holding your breath waiting to see the outcome. It has been awhile since an author could hold my interest and not let it go.

I thought the narrator did a really good job, she shows true emotion, with lovey character voice. You always know who is talking, what they are feeling as well as their pain and sorrow. She puts excitement into her voice giving you the thrill, danger, love pulling you in giving you a highly entertaining listen that kept me spellbound. There were no repeating of words, no volume, the only issue I have was when she announced the chapters, it did not move smooth, the chapters where done in a different voice that really set the story off, it took me a few seconds to get back into the story. It should have been done in a more natural voice which would have give the story a nice flow. Beside that the narrator pulled me in taking me way making me feel I was right there seeing the story before my eyes.

I loved the plot, the author pulls you in giving you a compelling story that you don’t want to put down. The story is believable giving you a look at what the future might hold. Everyone is afraid of what the future will bring, the heartache and pain as well as the turmoil. The characters has soul, meaning, each has a place, a role, it broke my heart when friends, family, love ones die all for one cause bring our nation back together as one. Taking out the power hungry who want to rule the USA, there is a little of everything between these pages. So many lives lots so we can become One Nation Under God taking back what others have take from them. It truly was a compelling listen that I truly didn’t want to end.

This review and many others can be found on my blog - Feed Your Fiction Addiction

The Legacy is an exciting dystopian that explores how far those in power will go to bring control to a chaotic world.

After WWIII, the US is devastated. Only people in a few midwestern states have survived the nuclear destruction. A man named Eric Dane becomes President, setting up harsh restrictions that limit people's choices - including their ability to have children and the choice to leave.

Rebecca had always assumed that Dane's rules were necessary for survival, but when she discovers his true agenda, she knows she has to help the Resistance stop him. She comes up with a dangerous plan - to marry the enemy.

What I loved:

Worldbuilding.
This book had a good amount of worldbuilding, explaining how World War III came about and how the world got to the state it was currently in. I like that the book actually started out telling us about Rebecca's experience of the war when she was a little girl and gave us a little bit of a background about what it was like to grow up in those conditions rather than just jumping to the time of the Resistance.

Rebecca.
Rebecca was a strong character who wasn't waiting for anyone to come save her - she took matters into her own hands and fought her own battles. While I didn't always agree with all of her decisions, I did think that she had the right intentions behind them - she was a morally upright person in a very corrupt world.

The action and suspense.
This book was full of action and intrigue. There were lots of twists and turns, and the stakes were very high. Rebecca and the others in the Resistance put themselves in some very dangerous situations, and I was never sure if everyone was going to make it through the book alive! Plus, there were some interesting twists at the end of the book that really set us up for book #2. I can't wait to see where Delport has gone with these twists in the next book!

Shades of gray.
I love it when the villains in a book aren't completely villainous, and that was the case here. Eric Dane was a complicated person. Most of his rules even seemed kind of reasonable to me - and then he went overboard. There are times when Rebecca thinks he might be any okay person - and then times when he's definitely not. This is my favorite type of villain!

The negatives:

Love triangle.
I wasn't always a fan of the love triangle in the book, and I got a bit frustrated with Rebecca and how she handled the men in her life sometimes (including Eric Dane - in one scene in particular, she dealt with Eric in a ridiculously frustrating way that was sure to do nothing but cause her trouble). Still, I will say that Delport twisted the love triangle around in interesting ways, so I was more on board by the end.

Pet peeve.
It seemed strange to me that the book was set in the US (in the near future), but the book featured British spellings. (The author is from South Africa, so I guess it makes sense, but it just struck me as odd).

So, overall, I really enjoyed The Legacy and I'm eager to see what Delport has in store for us in books #2 & 3 (book #2 is out now and book #3 is coming out next year). I give this one 4/5 Stars.

After World War 3 the human race was almost eradicated, but one man, Eric Dane, pulled the post-apocalyptic world together and created the New United States Of America.

And Rebecca Davis? She's sleeping with the enemy. Literally.

I had a little difficulty getting into the story; perhaps it was a jump from YA to Adult, perhaps it was a slump starting to kick in or perhaps it is simply just me feeling rushed. The beginning third-ish of the book was a little confusing to me; the flashbacks, history, backstory, etc., all felt disconnected - until they didn't. Honestly, this was probably done intentionally, like how it might play out in a movie, and my tired brain just couldn't...

However, the characters are great and our dear Ms Davis is actually one super badass bitch; did I mention my new #BookBoyfriend, Reed?

Because I like me a good Dystopia, I went into this expecting rebellion and swashbuckling and "If we burn, you burn with us!" and we got that and more! I got secret procedures, super soldiers, kung fu, an annoying teenager, secrets within secrets, a sexy hunk with a southern drawl, sleeping with the enemy (is this a trope? It should be) and, and, and....!

I am looking forward to book 2 to see our heroine kick more butt.

The book is about Rebecca, who is married to the President of New America in a post-apocalyptic world, and is First Lady. But she doesn’t love her husband at all. In fact, she secretly hates him and is working with an those outside the fence to bring him down. But this is going to be a lot harder than everyone thought when powers come into the story. As well as love, family, friendships and above all, betrayals…

Okay, as far as the plot goes this was amazing! I love reading YA but sometimes it all seems so same-y and you never get anything different. In this book we have a Rebecca undercover, which is a bit of a new aspect of a plot to me. There were also multiple plot twists, including a huge one at the end which I won’t give away. The ending has me tingling and I really can’t wait to get my ha
nds on the second book as well. Because this book kept me on my toes, never sure what would happen next, I loved it.

The beginning wasn’t my favourite bit because I felt like there were some things Rebecca should’ve already known after living undercover for so long, but from the beginning it only gets better. Reed, admittedly, is my favourite character. He’s someone who is confident, playful and daring. Yet he does have a sincere side to him, but it’s just harder to pull out. His snarky comments and cool attitude definitely made him my fave.

Yes, there is a bit of a love triangle in here. But it kind of works for this book and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. It didn’t get annoying or too boring at any point.

I was happy to read this! It kept me captivated all the way through, and definitely earns the full five stars from me!

Mel's storytelling is refreshing, the heroin and narrator is always a strong and confident woman who knows her worth and her beauty. The Legacy series is hard to place, I'd like to say it's a dystopian novel but it doesn't seem to really sum it up, though that in itself seems to be a theme with her books.

It's a skop skit en donder book with a sexy lead and extra sexy back up roles. It's set in post apocolyptic America after a nuclear attack between countries. This ruined United States is taken over by an evil (but fucking sexy) asshole who believes that the "New United States" is best run under a dictatorship. The first book revolves around how the rebels go about trying to bring down the President and all the twists and turns that Mel throws their way.

From cowboys with hot accents and modified genetics to epic romance and feisty teenagers. There's a slight reality to the series that makes you think that the scenario laid out might actually be a possibility. Being her first book you might find the first few chapters a little difficult to really get into but you can tell how her confidence soars from there.

I want to tell you about the whole plot but I don't want to give anything away so just know this: the ending leaves you going "What the fuck?! You're kidding me right?" so make sure you have book 2 handy...

This is not a book.

This is a life you will be pulled into, first by the throat and then by the heart, and live for a time, though you will carry it with you forever.

Rebecca Davis survived World War III, and thought the man who rose to lead the survivors was a hero. Safe within the walls of the NUSA, it's easier to believe the authority's version of the state of things outside the walls than question the politics that keeps the people safe.

But things are not at all what they seem, and it's up to Rebecca to step forward and become the greatest weapon the Resistance will ever know.

-----------------
Highly recommend the entire series - ensure you have book 2 and 3 at hand when you start!

I was a little apprehensive about picking this one up as I’ve been well and truly overfed with dystopian, YA heroine stories and I only did because I very much enjoyed a previous book by this author. To my absolute delight this was excellent - believable, well crafted and with an underlying sense of menace I couldn’t quite shake (we all know there’s an Eric Dane waiting in the shadows should a similar scenario ever arise). I had the audio version which was brilliantly narrated by Lynn Devereux and just a joy to listen to, she really brought the characters to life and sucked me into the story.
A very nice detour from my usual fare and I can’t wait to listen to the next one.

I absolutely loved this book. Especially because it is the type of book I don't normally read. If an author can make me love a genre that's quite new to me then I know they have talent. Melissa Delport took me on such an exciting journey and I'm dying to get my hands on the second and third book. I read this book so quickly! And I NEED to know which guy gets chosen! I NEED TO KNOW!

First in the Legacy Trilogy speculative fiction for adults and 16+ readers and revolving around First Lady Rebecca Davis/Dane who was born months after the war began in 2016.

My thanks to Melissa Delport and Tracey McDonald at Tracey McDonald Publishers for providing this ARC for my enjoyment.

My Take
Well, I say enjoyment…what I mean is I spent hours with my heart racing with the tension and drama Delport creates. It's a very credible scenario Delport paints for what led up to the war, how it fell out, the aftereffects of the bombs on our atmosphere and climate, how it affected crops and animals, people — and how we struggle to recover from it. There are good reasons Dane has chosen these states.

It's a story of survival, and for Rebecca it is in some ways an idyllic childhood. At least until she turns fifteen. But she still has the love of her life and most of her family. Until she abandons it all for what she sees as a higher calling. One that is fraught with danger even though the benefits for her cause are incredible.

I like that we finally get some background on good guy Reed, the man with that romantic bent. Damn you, Delport, you've got me seesawing between these men. They're both so supportive. Although I am curious as to why the heads of the Resistance are turning to Reed, especially after we learn what Reed's background is. Must be something Delport hasn't told us yet. Then there's his little Casablanca speech. I think Reed is channeling Bogart there.

I do differ from Delport's classification as to genre and target audience. I'd label it more dystopian with its primary readership a Young Adult audience that adults could also enjoy. But hey, it's not my book…*grin*…

Hmmm, there are a lot of laws Dane passes that I agree with, but not all. I wonder if Delport meant for Dane Rule to be a take-off on Danelaw?

I have some niggles. I don't understand how Rebecca has managed three years of evading Eric's guards as she races off onto the streets to report her news between her husband's meetings and phone calls, leaving bodies behind, and hunting down potential Gifted soldiers. Rebecca forgave her father too quickly. As paranoid as Eric is, does she never consider he may have bugged their house to keep track of what she's doing and saying? God knows he's doing it everywhere else. Delport's been skirting the stupid tropes (the ones I hate *grin*), but she just had to throw this one in. Damn. Why couldn't he just wait! Of course, it's quickly followed by the next stupid trope — Bex's revealing call. I keep expecting Bex to be smart, and she keeps having these little blips.

I do like the fairness in this. Where Jonathan could have condemned Jeffrey, where her father could have condemned Jonathan's stance, they both accept the reality of each man's situations.

What's so different in our world now?

"In my world people in power established laws and we followed them. It had never occurred to me to disagree; until now."

What is Aidan thinking at that dinner party???

It's a good story with some twists to this dystopian, post-apocalyptic world with an interesting blend of show and tell. The tell is not that visible for Delport does ratchet up the tension — I couldn't read fast enough once I got past the first 20-percent of the eARC I was reading. And lord knows I cried at all the scenes Delport wanted those tears to flow…god, I cried. And Delport has put even more twists in this to keep the tension level up.

She also uses the first person point-of-view, which is not my favorite perspective, and I'm not sure if it's this voice that makes me feel the writing is immature. Don't get me wrong. Delport uses the first person very well, and I don't feel as though I'm reading a screenplay! But still…

I do love that Rebecca is such a strong character. She doesn't sit around waiting for someone to rescue her. No siree, she jumps right in to protect herself or to save others! And Delport has me flopping back and forth on Bex's decisions. I hate that I can see both sides and want both sides…and can't have both sides! Of course, Rebecca's immaturity crops up now and then, and it makes me nuts. How can she not figure out how Eric will react?? Especially in that final scene in their house...I cried so hard in that one.

Hmm, Reed's rant about bodyguards versus soldiers is rather suggestive. Makes me wonder how it might tie in to Dane's plea. Another set-up for The Legion , 2, is that romantic angle, and yeah, Delport has me flopping on that one too. Argh…

The way The Legacy ends, you'll probably want to have The Legion available when you finish. 'Cause I am so conflicted over that ending. It was the right thing to do, but I'm such a softie!! If he believes he could have changed, why didn't he? And what is the deal with Eric in those last few pages? What's his angle? This hope?

The Story
World War III lasted twelve days. And destroyed civilization. It took one charismatic, strong leader to bring some order back. At the cost of free will, freedom, choice, laughter, joy.

It takes Rebecca meeting her dead father for the first time when she's nineteen for her to discover her mission in life. She will ensure a few certain essentials for her own future.

And then she will form her own army, and it shall be The Legion , 2.

The Characters
First Lady Rebecca "Bex" Davis/Dane chose to sacrifice herself, to marry Eric Dane, and save her people by spying on the enemy. Aunt Jessie was a Vegas showgirl and Cara's sister. Cara was Rebecca's mother who created a refuge in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Jonathan Moore and his two-year-old son Aidan are the refugees who found them. Jenna Larsen is a fellow student when they were children. Alex is the son Rebecca has with Aidan; he's a very special little boy. Ms. Cathy and Mr. Norman are the relatives in Georgia.

The Resistance
Jeffrey Davis is, was, the Undersecretary to the Secretary of Defense in the fields of Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics. He's also Rebecca's father. And he's undercover on Dane's research team. They know President James Vincent is dead. His son, Adam Vincent, is also believed dead. Evan Wright is a contact within the New United States. Reed McCoy is a young boy Jeffrey rescued at the start of the war; now he's a silent bodyguard who has fallen in love.

The Rebeldom is what the New U.S. citizens call the barren lands, and they are led to believe it is a sere land where nothing grows but monsters. In truth, it's where the rebels live and flourish. The Resistance has headquarters and bases in Las Vegas and Dodge City, Kansas. The leaders include Bex's father, the misogynistic General Harrison Ross, and Vice-President Ken Williams.

Gabby is one of the women back at Camp Seven while Amber is at Unit Three Camp.

President Eric Dane is one man who brought civilization back, but at a terrible cost to the small world he saved and to himself. Quinn and Darius are his shadows. Joseph is the house butler. Ricky is part of Dane's security.

Kwan Lee is Rebecca's Korean taekwando instructor. He had a wife, Nina, who volunteered for the Gifted trials. She didn't survive it.

The New United States comprises ten states — Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, North and South Dakota, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri, and Nebraska — all surrounded by a wall and guards to keep those on the other side out. Dane Corp Plaza is Eric's official headquarters. The Cook County Jail is no longer as useful as it once was.

Transhumanism is the use of genetic modification and engineering to create superhumans who may be superfast, super-strong, or able to heal. "Gifted" is the term the scientists use.

Legion
There's a list out, and it's a race between Eric and the Resistance to see who can contact those on that list. Michael and Morgan Kelly are teenage siblings with a greedy father, Simon. Officers Cole Thomas and Jared Jones and Jane Sharp are also potential recruits. Already in the camp are Peter Smith, Frank Wakeford, Sergeant Swanson, Bradley, Robert Rellis, and David. Veronica and Elizabeth will do what they can.

Rados are people who were affected by the radiation, monsters. Barbarians who were affected by the new requirements to live, to survive.

The Cover
The cover features a radiant silhouette of a city skyline, Chicago perhaps?, and Rebecca hidden under a black hood, a metaphor for her hidden status. It's a beautiful use of black on white with the title in a golden yellow.

The title may refer to a gift, a birthright, an inheritance — The Legacy that the survivors have received to return freedom and free will to their world.

The premise set up a thrilling dystopian world—one ruled by strict control, divided by power, and teetering on the edge of rebellion. At its heart was Rebecca, a fierce and determined protagonist, caught between duty and the unsettling truth about the system she had been raised to uphold. The story wasted no time plunging into action, with betrayals, shifting alliances, and secrets unravelling at a steady pace. While some twists were genuinely surprising, others felt predictable, following familiar beats of the genre rather than breaking new ground.

The characters had strong foundations, but not all of them felt fully developed. Rebecca’s internal conflict made her a compelling lead, though her decisions sometimes felt rushed rather than deeply considered. The dynamic between her and the key figures in her life—both allies and enemies—added tension, but some relationships could have used more depth to feel truly impactful. A love triangle surfaced as part of the story, adding emotional stakes, though it occasionally distracted from the larger, more interesting themes of power, resistance, and sacrifice.

The dystopian setting had potential, with a society built on control and hidden cracks waiting to be exposed. However, certain aspects of the world-building felt underexplored, leaving some questions unanswered. The writing style leaned toward fast-paced action, which kept the story engaging, but at times, it moved too quickly, sacrificing emotional weight for momentum. While the genre’s familiar tropes made for an entertaining read, it didn’t always push beyond expectations, making it enjoyable but not entirely memorable.

I am glad to see that so many Goodreads readers loved this book, and I think it would be very appealing to young adults or those in their early twenties. I read it very quickly, as it is certainly a gripping story that makes it a page-turner (or kindle clicker, in my case). The 'but' is that it is all too formulaic and there are too many points in the different strands of the plot when you think 'is that really a good idea?' First, Rebecca is a profoundly flawed heroine. She is billed as possibly the strongest woman that ever lived and yet she constantly relies on the help of male characters and she makes irrational and illogical decisions that endanger others as much as her. Secondly the plot is unconvincing - it is unclear what she actually achieves by making such a huge sacrifice early in the story, and when the 'final battle' appears to be won it is a hollow victory. Third, the writing style does not appeal to me (I did say I am not the ideal target market for this book) - it is almost reminiscent of E. L. James (50 shades of grey) in the constant use of clichés, the way the characters frequently roll their eyes, and the descriptions of sexual encounters with the over use of verbs such as 'growl' and 'groan'. I am also not a fan of graphically violent fighting scenes. I have no doubt, however, that the other books in the series are just as popular as this first one has proved to be - so the author is obviously onto a winning formula!

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I I am hooked. I can’t wait to listen to the next one!

This book has many aspects- post apocalyptic society re-organization, overbearing leaders, mysterious motives, contained/controlled populations, subterfuge, strong-willed resistance fighters, people reduce to sub-human existence, scientific advancements, human enhancements. There also is romance, but it only served to further expand upon how much this woman was giving up in joining the resistance. We are exposed to the society that Rebecca lives in. We learned little about what is truly going on outside of it. There is a degree of conclusion in this book, but then it is ripped open wide with a cliffhanger at the end to lead us into the next book. I can’t get there quick enough.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Lynn Devereux ) and I would listen to another. She successfully brought out the personalities of the characters and the hardships they were going through. She narrated the male and female characters well, given each a distinguishable voice. Her pacing was well done.

Although there are a few sex scenes they are very tame and not explicit. There Is the occasional swearing but not ill placed. There is no excessive violence.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this unbiased review.

This was a reread for me. My first time was four years ago and I read the Kindle copy. I read the trilogy then, and noticed there is now a fourth book. It's been so long since I read the series that I wasn't sure if I could go into the fourth book without a review. Instead of a simple reread, I experienced this in audio this go round. I think the audio is fairly new. I actually got it for free, from the author (I follow her on Facebook and she was offering codes to fans). I figured this would be a great way to remember the story, and yet experience it differently.

I still really liked the story. Even four years later, I had a pretty good memory of many of the events happening.

As for the audio ... the narrator wasn't my favorite. Just a little stilted, cold, not really the voice I would have imagined for the MC or other characters. It grew on me though. I struggled throughout the book at the start of each chapter, as the "Chapter 4" or "Chapter 8" were announced. I think must have been all recorded separately and spliced in, but they were just abrupt, the pronunciation a little odd in my opinion. I guess I just like my audio a little more conversational sounding, NOT like a recording.

nuclear blast
We all know what dystopian novels are about by now; the world collapses, the government sucks, people are clueless and doing weird stuff that they wouldn't ordinarily do in a proper society. It's basically just chaos from beginning to end. The Legacy by Melissa Delport is pretty much all of that, but it's got an extra factor that you don't see in dystopias often ... it's sexy as hell.

Okay, so this is what you can expect in The Legacy (little to no spoilers):

Eric Dane - sorry, President Eric Dane - is the most ruthless politician since George W. Bush, but more beloved than John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln put together. He's also stupendously H-O-T. I mean ... rarrr. Unfortunately, like all men, he's got his flaws. He fenced up ten states and called them the New United States of America, he's got new policies in place - curfews, mandatory sterilization for those whose genes got nuked, and he's building a super army. But most people in NUSA put up with it because they get food and water and great reception on their TVs. Honestly, he's my kind of guy.

I want to have his adopted babies

Eric Dane is married to Rebecca Dane, the First Lady, but she's got a lot of secrets ... one of them includes killing President Dane. Why, you ask? Well, because there's a real Berlin Wall situation going on here, except it's a fence not a wall, and everyone inside the fence is basically better off than everyone outside the fence. Or so it appears. Nevertheless, she wants it gone, and in order to get it gone she needs to kill Eric Dane. Easier said than done though. Kill him too soon and he's a martyr. Kill him too late and he'll probably kill her. It's a total catch-22 situation. Rebecca isn't easily deterred, she's got the element of surprise, and she's kind of bad-ass. So, the odds are in her favour, for the most part.

Ooh, this is getting rather fun

I can go on and on and give you all a wonderful description about each and every character (this review is already very unusual for how I usually write them. I apologise), but then I'd probably bore you all to death. So, lets move on, shall we?

In short, this is what The Legacy by Melissa Delport has to offer:

Never Ending Sexual Frustration

AND

Director Fury

AND

This place is all bitches, backstabbers and botox

Basically, all of the above will make you feel:

My Whole Brain is Crying

AND

My Emotions My emotions

So basically, I'm addicted and I can't get enough of The Legacy, which means that every one of you dystopian book lovers absolutely, positively need to get your hands on this. Yeah, there are a few cliches in it, and yes I did see a few flaws here and there, but it's a great story and I'm sure Reed, Aiden and Eric will have the ladies' knees grow weak in no time.

What a book! Eleven hours and 54 minutes of pure genius. The entire concept of WWlll is terrifying and all too credible and the consequences, as laid out in The Legacy, are frighteningly believable. I wanted to despise Eric Dane, but ended up feeling confused as he displayed some genuinely caring husband moments towards Rebecca. The love between Aidan and Rebecca was tender and beautiful. The other players is this action packed tale all bring their own poignant extra special something to the mix; Mr Davis, Jonathan, Alex, The Kelly Kids, all of them make this futuristic, dystopian suspense thriller so hair raising it felt like I'd stuck my finger in an electric socket. The book speeds along at a break neck pace and, now I've finished I feel the need for a surgical collar for support. And as for the ending, Ms Delport!!!!! When will book 2 be ready? My roar of "No" could be heard for miles!

The Legacy, my fourth read/listen from author Melissa Delport (Lissa Del) & the first book in a series was absolutely excellent! There's something about a story with characters trying to survive in a cataclysmic world that's moved on. I don't restrict my reading to any particular genre. Instead, I'm a sucker for anything with memorable characters & a story that keeps me on the edge of my seat until the end. Narrator Lynn Devereux’s talented narration added greatly to the book’s enjoyment. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Since I own both the Kindle & Audible edition I was able to follow along while being read to. I have to admit there were times I sped up the book because I couldn't wait to see what happened next. Well-written romantic/suspense, with well-developed characters. I’ll be reading more from this author & look forward to the rest of the series! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

The book is set in a post-apocalyptic United States or not so the United States. Our heroine is a great character, with support from the rest. We have a love triangle that will set you on edge and wonder why you are rooting for both of them.

Rebecca Davis is one of the characters that really pulled me in, the sacrifices she was willing to make for the greater good of mankind really makes you sit back and hope that one day you will life up to her example. Melissa has a way of writing characters that become your best friends, you want to see them succeed, to kick ass and to overcome whatever obstacles are in their way.

The build up throughout the book was intense and it really got my heart racing, the action scenes was incredible and the way she described them I could picture this all happening in my head.

The ending made me want to grab the next book in the series as soon as possible, and that to me is a great way to continue a series.

I enjoyed listening to the Clock Keeper which was my first introduction to Melissa Delport's writing. But this book was fabulous! It has everything - great writing, great story, great characters and the narrator Lynn Devereux was brilliant.

There's just enough science fiction to make it interesting but not so much that it spoils the story for people who aren't devotees of that genre. She has created a totally believable world and this is a fast paced and exciting read with great action scenes. It has a little bit of everything - good versus evil, a love triangle, an outstanding heroine and a great cast of supporting characters. Best of all - it is the first in a series!!!!

I don't discuss plots in reviews as they are already there in the synopsis (plus I don't want to spoil things for other readers) But.... great ending!!!

I enjoyed this well written story. The characters were well developed and behaved exactly as I expected as I got to know them. I loved that it was relatively clean. The few sex scenes were tastefully handled and though there were a couple of curse words they were not over used or inappropriate.
I enjoyed the premise of the book, with the powers of the future being genetic treatments with limitations and risks rather than all encompassing super powers. It did feel that this book was written as a series and divided into books when the series was complete. I personally did not have a problem with this because I truly love serial stories. I absolutely loved the narration in the audiobook. She was perfect for this project. Her character voices were quite consistent. I hope to get the next book very very soon.
