Pendant is the first book in The Undead Hunters series.
I was an IT professional for twenty years before deciding to lead a more creative life. I have always loved the idea of writing novels and had written four when Long Lost Song came along, demanding to be published.
A Store Manager during daylight hours, I try to write when I can. I am currently working on a high fantasy series, a cat detective series inspired on an idea from my daughter, and a few stand alone novels. I have a few books now completed in my back pocket!
A roller coaster ride into the land of horror... Graphic details that would cause sleepless nights... This being my first book to read in the horror genre, it took me by surprise that I didn't flinch so much throughout the story though I did say, "Ewe gross!" and "Ouch!" quite often... Stephen has a way with telling a story to those readers with a vivid imagination, as I was able to play out the entire book.
Starting out I thought every character who wore the 'Pendant' would end up being brutally killed, slaughtered and eaten at the hand of Varnok. As Varnok searches for his beloved wife's soul, feeling for the 'Pendant' he searches everywhere for years and years. Brutally killing anyone that beholds the 'Pendant' and feeding off their souls, condemning them to his fate, an eternity in Hell.
When Maggie and Logan are introduced in the book, I get this feeling that they are the ones... These two awesome characters will take Varnok down... Though after Logan finds his family slaughtered and Maggie finds her friend ripped to pieces I am not so sure. Here is where the author has caught my interest, because now it's not only a horror in genre, but a mystery as well. I want to see this book to the end, through all the graphic details of evil, killing and 'hearts ripped from the chest' scenes. "Ewe gross!"
Questions you might find yourself asking while reading Pendant: The Undead Hunters ~ Will Varnok succeed in his search for his beloved? Will Maggie and Logan find what they are looking for in time to stop Varnok? Will the brutal killing ever stop? Can Maggie and Logan save their family and friends souls from Varnok's fate, rotting in Hell? All this an more will cross your mind as you read 'Pendant'...
I received an ARC copy of The Pendant by Stephen C. Ormsby to review. The Pendant is quite simply the worst book I’ve ever read. If you like reading – in gruesome detail – about people being tortured and eaten alive, then this is the book for you. Long ago, the pendant in the title was split in two. Through the centuries, the two half pendants keep ending up at antique shows and garage sales where they seem to broadcasting a kind of irresistible attraction. Once the unwary buyer succumbs to the compulsion and puts the necklace around his/her neck, a horrible death is soon to follow. Varnok, a uber-evil demon who has escaped from Hell, is on a mission to find his beloved. The pendant is supposed to locate her. When he finds her, he’ll torture her until she joins him in Hell once again. He frequently summons his servant, Isaac, an Igor type, demanding he find her. Isaac can’t seem to recognize Varnok’s beloved, which means he gets to dismember and eat a lot of defenseless women. The Pendant is full of mistakes. Huge, glaring, obvious mistakes! When I read something this full of errors, I have to wonder about the competence of the publisher, who should have at least one proofreader on staff. In my opinion, any author worth his salt should be proofreading his own material – at the very least, using spellcheck! Don’t waste your money on The Pendant. I can’t recommend this book for anyone.
I don't read much horror books, as I find they can keep me up at night or cause a nightmare or two lol. Pendant came highly recommended by friend and Author Dean Mayes. I found Pendant to be a horror tied into a mystery and well written by the Author. This is about Varnok a wizard who seeks revenge on those who burnt him for a 300 age old murder. As I began to read more and more, I thought every character would end up being brutally killed by Varnok, as he searches for his wife's soul, feeling for the 'Pendant' he searches everywhere killing anyone that holds it. When Maggie and Logan are introduced in the book, I got the feeling that they were the two that would take Varnok down...but I am not so sure. Now I'm into this story and I want to see it thru to the end, even through all the evil and the gory killing scenes. Stephen has a way with telling a story to readers with a vivid imagination, as I was able to play out in the entire book. So will they'll learn the secret of the Pendant before it is too late? Will their love be strong enough to stop Varnok? I cannot say...you will have to get the book to find out. ( : I recommend this book for those who like horror and mystery. Great job Stephen!!
It is difficult to read this genre from anyone other than Stephen King...too many high expectations. Imagine my surprise when from the start I was caught like a helpless fly in Mr. Ormsby complex web of plotlines. Horror, mystesty, sadness and hope all linger beautifully in the Pendant. Sure, there were times my nose crinkled at the impeccably detailed scenes of massacre but to be honest, it's all necessary. The author uses a powerful narrative to lure his reader into his emotional roller coaster leaving us completely used and abused at the end.
This was a really good book after I got past my anger after the young couple and there unborn child was killed. you must read to find out yourself how they died. I will probably read this book again to see if I have a different point of view at a later time.
