This was a great book. Yes there were some parts of Jones writing style that drove me up the wall, very specifically that he was constantly changing points of view without any breaks to signify that he was doing it, so it was sometime hard to figure out who's point of view you were reading. BUT, and I meant to capitalize that BUT, past the stylistic problems the underlying story was cool, and the character of Mark Lansdowne was just plain great. There are a few characters that stick out in a lot of the books I read, Jack Reacher in the Lee Child Books, Agent Pendergast in the Preston & Child books, and Repairman Jack in the F. Paul Wilson books all of whom have a sense of justice, mystery, and a chivalrous attitude towards protecting and defending women. Mark Lansdowne belongs in that category he has a mysterious past, he has a sense of absolute justice, and he would die to protect the women he's near, add to that fact that he's a dog lover and you have a hero that you can connect with, and care about. I read a lot of books and where things fall apart is when you can't connect with the protagonist, but Lansdowne strikes that cord, he gets under your skin for the right reasons, and you find yourself laughing with him, crying with him, and cheering for him to win. Yes there are some technical problems with the book, don't think that I as a reader and fellow writer didn't see those there, but I looked past them because I really like Lansdowne and I thought the book was a great read, so take my advice, pick up this books and enjoy it, because if your anything like me you'll enjoy it immensely and find yourself ready and waiting for the next book to hurry up and get out.
