I can not describe this book, that is how bad it is. I want to know how it even came to my attention to read. Ok, not to knock the author because I don't write for a living. But I love to read all different types of books. Now, this story of Alexandra and Cane (the bodyguard) was suppose to be a HOT romance with some suspense. All I got from this book was a hot mess! Cane is trying to act all professional and not get involved with the client. But he says the craziest stuff to Alexandra to make her feel like they might have a chance. But then he changes his mind and treats her like any other client. The hot and heavy stuff didn't even happen until the very END. Wasted money!
This book was very slow to start. It is short so that is not a good sign. I'd say maybe 75% of the way through it started to pick up, which is much to long for a book of this length. The ending was good which is why I gave it 3 stars, otherwise I would have rated it lower.
Alexandra finally gets her hearts desire. Cane was enthralled and captured from the moment he first saw her and it's a great ride looking into the mind and heart of Alexandra while waiting for Xane to realize that all that holding back was like building a tower without a foundation, sure to topple and fall hard and fast. Really great story with amazing depth.
I came across this book by browsing in amazon.com. I have never read a book from this author before but I am a sucker for bodyguard/protégée stories and the excerpt piqued my interest. Donel Duke is a wealthy businessman who just scored a deal many of his rivals have been coveting. He fears that some competitor might try to hurt his only daughter out of spite. Consequently, he hires Cane Hutchinson as a bodyguard for the less than thrilled Alexandra. Living in close quarters with each other proves very trying for both parties as their attraction for one another keeps growing. Although Alexandra is willing to take a chance with Cane, her wishes to keep things strictly professional .So basically we have a will-they- won’t -they push and pull situation going on for a good portion of the book. This is fine by me...I think good sexual tension +inescapable situation (ie: being stucked together) = GOLD. I liked the characters a lot. Alex is a good mix of spoiled social butterfly and reserved but passionate and intelligent woman. She likes to have fun but she is also an independent and goal-oriented woman. She did complete Cane who was more of a straight lace but just as passionate man. Plus he is freaking hot. I love man with restraint and a strong code of ethics. He can also kick ass. Can you ask for more? As the story unfolded, we got a glimpse of each protagonist’s backstory and they develop a relationship based on more than physical attraction. The bad guy is eventually caught and the ending was absolutely sweet. And I like the fact that How many times do you see that? Overall, the story flowed very nicely; there were very few errors/typos. There was heat, passion, a little suspense. It was not a mind-blowingly innovative book but I liked it and I will read it again. Thank you to Dez Burke!!
This interracial black woman white man erotic romance had the potential to be a great story. I normally like interacial stories but this one really lacked. For one Cane. The Greek god. Was supposed to be incredibly attracted to her and have this undeniable connection. What I got is tha he put a lot of pretenses and excuses to not have a relationship sooner with her. And she well she acted like a child at times. Even though you sort of get why. But still for all of what Cane has put her through she should have gotten a little revenge. Not immediately have forgiven him so very easily. if he did that to me I would have, I would have made him suffer. Greatly. Call me a vindictive bitch.
I'm guessing this had to be one of author's early piece. It's definitely not consistent with her other work. The story had promise but was very cliched. Also, the sex scene seemed so awkwardly placed. I'm so dismayed at the body image issues that came out. The dig she made about her bestfriend getting engaged before she did left me feeling some kind of way. Who cares if you have the supposed body of a supermodel? Eww.
Alexandra needs a bodyguard and her father hires Cane. There are a few twists and turns in the story. It took them a while to get to the HEA. Growing up on Alexandra's part she was the "bratty" through out the story and Cane didn't want to cross any lines.
The narrator simply ruined this book for me. Some of the mispronunciations were simply glaring. Same attention to detail in IR book editing as in IR narration? Poor form publishers!
